<em>Every two weeks, </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/massively-mobile/"><em>Massively Mobile</em></a><em> brings you the latest news, guides and analysis about MMOs on mobile devices. Covering iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Android platforms, we're on the lookout for the next generation of MMOs.</em> <br />
<br />
Today I am going to cover mobile apps for <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> for the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad. If you own a mobile device that runs a different OS, fear not! I will be covering <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft/">WoW</a> </em>apps running on Google's Android OS and for the Blackberry in the next column. <br />
<br />
It must be noted that the official <em>WoW </em>iPhone app is one of the best MMO-related apps out there with the recent addition of in-game auction house access through the app. It has set the bar for other MMO apps that are mere character and/or server look-up services. Seriously, it blows <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/16/massively-mobile-iphone-apps-for-your-favorite-mmos/">other</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/30/massively-mobile-iphone-apps-for-your-favorite-mmos-part-2/">MMO-related apps</a> out of the water.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/20/massively-mobile-iphone-apps-for-world-of-warcraft/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively Mobile: iPhone apps for World of Warcraft</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/20/massively-mobile-iphone-apps-for-world-of-warcraft/">Massively Mobile: iPhone apps for World of Warcraft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 20 Jun 2010 21:00:00 EST. If you're playing <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>, increasingly, you have options available to keep you playing the game even if you're logged off. With several apps running off the <a href="http://www.wowarmory.com">Armory</a> and the recent announcement of <a href="http://www.wow.com/2010/02/02/blizzard-announces-upcoming-premium-ah-through-armory-feature/">a planned Auction House access feature</a> as a premium, there's almost no reason to log in at all. Unless you want to level up, quest, roleplay, raid, PvP, explore... okay, there's plenty of reason to log in, but there are more options than ever to let you handle matters inside the game while not even close to your computer.<br />
<br />
It's not unprecedented by any means, as both <a href="http://www.fallenearth.com"><em>Fallen Earth</em></a> (coming soon) and <a href="http://www.champions-online.com"><em>Champions Online</em></a> also offer applications for the iPhone to help take care of the game's management functions while you're away from your computer. With the continued advent of more functional mobile devices and more robust web environments through services such as <a href="http://www.facebook.com">Facebook</a>, games can offload many of the more tedious bits of gameplay into applications players just run through quickly on a break at their day job. What do you think of the increasing trend? Are you happy to have the option to take care of administrative tasks when not near your computer, or do you see it as intrusive and unnecessary?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/05/the-daily-grind-how-do-you-like-side-applications/">The Daily Grind: How do you like side applications?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 05 Feb 2010 08:00:00 EST. Have a need to embed <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/pirates-of-the-burning-sea/"><em>Pirates of the Burning Sea</em></a> information in your website, blog, or toolbar? Then you'll want to read <a href="http://massively.com/tag/flying-lab-software/">Flying Lab</a>'s <em>PotBS</em> developer <a href="http://www.burningsea.com/page/news/article&amp;article_id=10707">Brendan Weitzman's latest developer journal</a>. There he talks about the special Crawler server. You can't play on this server -- Crawler's job is to go through all the data on the live servers, figure out what has changed, and copy the changes to itself so that the developers -- and the wider world -- can use this information. What sorts of information Crawler can give you, how much of it you can use and how often -- all these are answered within.<br /><br />Will this info change your life? Well, probably not. But isn't it a nice feeling to know if you did need this information, it would be there for you? <a href="http://www.burningsea.com/page/play/status">See if your server is up</a> without logging in -- or set up email alerts when your port gets thrown into contention. You can make those sorts of apps with this data. And maybe in the future, as they prepare ever more of their data for players to use, you could build something like <em>WoW'</em>s Armory. We're just beginning to realize how games will be played in the future. They will be everywhere -- <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/first-impressions-pmog-the-passively-multiplayer-game/">in your browser</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/the-daily-grind-do-mmos-belong-on-cellphones/">on your cell phone</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/mmos-and-the-iphone-sdk/">on your iPod</a>.... This is how it starts, with a developer explaining how players can get at their data when they are not in the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/yarrr-there-be-treasure-hidden-in-them-thar-data-servers/">Yarrr!
