<em>At the end of every week, we round up the best and most popular news stories, exclusive features, and insightful columns published on <a href="http://www.massively.com/">Massively</a> and then present them all in one convenient place. Miss a big MMO or <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com/">WoW Insider</a> story last week? You've come to the right post.</em><br />
<br />
Our very own <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/editor/karen-bryan">Karen Bryan</a> was on the scene at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/soe/">Sony Online Entertainment's</a> annual <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/fan-faire-2011/">Fan Faire</a>, rushing around like a frenzied kobold to snatch up all of the latest news and community reactions. Whether it was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/the-guild-counsel-a-chat-with-linda-the-brasse-carlson/">talking with a bearded female Dwarf</a> about community relations, learning about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/11/soe-fan-faire-2011-dcuo-reveals-new-downloadable-content-fight/">exciting new downloadable content for <em>DC Universe Online</em></a>, or digesting <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/11/the-tattered-notebook-everquest-ii-highlights-from-soe-fan-fair/">the OMG-awesome-crazy <em>EverQuest II</em> news</a>, she had our back. And now we all owe her a Wookiee life debt. Pay up!<br />
<br />
Join us past the break for a glimpse into this week's other top MMO stories!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/17/week-in-review-downshifting-from-fan-faire/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Review: Downshifting from Fan Faire</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/17/week-in-review-downshifting-from-fan-faire/">Week in Review: Downshifting from Fan Faire</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 17 Jul 2011 20:00:00 EST. I'm going to share with you a deep secret about the Massively staff: Pretty much all of us hate <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/editor/larry-everett">Larry</a>. Oh, as a person he's likable enough, and he showers regularly, so no complaints there. He even saved the President's dog once and earned the Merit of Patriotic Pooches. Women swoon at his feet, and men occasionally throw their billfolds at him just so that he can afford to live the luxurious lifestyle that he obviously deserves.<br />
<br />
No, we hate him for a different reason entirely. You see, Larry gets the privilege and honor of being the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> reporter in these here parts, which has earned him no end of envy from the rest of us. Whenever we're all talking about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>TOR</em></a>, Shawn will come in the room and tell all of us to cut it out -- except Larry. "Larry, it's your job to talk about <em>The Old Republic</em>. Keep on truckin', pal! You're the best!"<br />
<br />
And then Larry sticks his tongue out at us and makes pretend lightsaber noises for an hour or so while we grit our teeth.<br />
<br />
But then I remembered: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/perfect-ten/">I have a top ten column</a>! In which I can talk about anything! And if that subject so happened to be <em>TOR</em>, then for one glorious week I could actually talk about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare's </a>upcoming MMO without fear of reprisal from upper management! So today is all about my predictions for <em>The Old Republic</em>. Nine of them will come true; one will not. Have fun guessing which one!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/07/the-perfect-ten-predictions-for-the-old-republic/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Perfect Ten: Predictions for The Old Republic</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/07/the-perfect-ten-predictions-for-the-old-republic/">The Perfect Ten: Predictions for The Old Republic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 07 Apr 2011 12:00:00 EST. Ah, the holidays... As young <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookiee">Wookiees</a>, we remember sipping steaming <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hoth_chocolate">Hoth Chocolate</a> and munching on freshly baked <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookiee-ookiee">Wookiee-ookiees</a>. You remember growling songs of freedom and peace around the <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wroshyr_tree">wroshyr tree</a>, right? You don't? Well, that's because you're human. <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Life_Day">Life Day</a>, the Wookiee holiday, celebrates the diversity of life on the home world of <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kashyyyk">Kashyyyk</a>. Every three years, Wookiee families covet their sacred orbs and tell stories of those long dead and their hope for the young. It sounds like a wonderful and peaceful time for Wookiees every where. Well, you are wrong.<br />
<br />
The Imperials of all eras despised Life Day, but none more than those under the rule of <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Emperor_Palpatine">Emperor Palpatine</a> during the <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Civil_War">Galactic Civil War</a>. At the time, Wookiees were an enslaved race. Their home planet of Kashyyyk was strictly patrolled by Imperial soldiers, and most of the population was in forced labor camps. But still, every three years, Wookiees around the galaxy would make their way to their home world in order to celebrate.<br />
<br />
Today, I want to take a look at a story that revolves around this holiday, the origins of the holiday, and of course, how this holiday may be celebrated in <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/hyperspace-beacon-holiday-special/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: Holiday Special</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/hyperspace-beacon-holiday-special/">Hyperspace Beacon: Holiday Special</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 15:00:00 EST. </a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">Just when we think there isn't anything more that can be revealed about the smuggler class, <a href="http://bioware">BioWare</a> proves us wrong. <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>The Old Republic</em></a> website just launched a slew of screenshots, advanced class data, and videos about <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/smuggler">Han Solo's favorite Republic class</a>. Let's see if we can break this down into bite-sized pieces.<br />
<br />
First, we know the smuggler's duck-and-cover combat techniques are not new, but we now have an <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/smuggler">official breakdown</a> of the advanced classes. The scoundrel advanced class is all about sneaking in, hitting hard, then getting out before anyone notices. The stealth belt, med pack, and single blaster are his equipment of choice. The gunslinger advanced class controls the enemies' movement as well as packing a nice DPS punch. All the gunslinger needs is two blasters and perfect aim -- if you bust an enemy's knees or blindshot him, he ain't gonna move.<br />
<br />
Secondly, we have one of the smuggler's companions: <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/biographies/bowdaar">Bowdaar</a>. This <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookiee">Wookiee</a> is most likely picked up on the Smuggler's Moon, <a href="http://swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/nar-shaddaa">Nar Shaddaa</a>, since he is a gladiator in the arenas there. Although he uses few -- if any -- weapons, this strong-armed companion has never been defeated in battle. This sets him up well to be the tank to the smuggler's healer or crowd control role. Plus, what's a smuggler without a Wookiee partner, right?<br />
<br />
Lastly, what would a smuggler be without a starship? The <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/starships/xs-stock-light">Corellian XS Stock Light Freighter</a> serves at the smuggler's transportation of choice. As with most <a href="http://swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/corellia">Corellian</a>-designed vessels, the XS Stock Light is perfect for cargo transportation, crew accommodation, and pirate defense. Everything your smuggler will need to find consistent work throughout the galaxy, plus a few added features to hide not-so-legal items.<br />
<br />
Check out more information about this sneaky class on <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20100924">the official site</a>, and don't forget to visit <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/smuggler-class/">our gallery</a> for some awesome screenshots.<br />

If you're a <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/index.vm"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a> player, you'll find a nice gift waiting for you the next time you log in. <br />
<br />
SOE has released the third in a line of recent seven-year-anniversary gifts for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies/">SWG</a></em> players, and it's a schematic for some fun housing: a Wookiee treehouse. It's a single-use item, of course, but it will net you a pretty impressive new residence.<br />

The Wookiee treehouse takes up two lots, gives you 200 storage, and makes quite a statement on the surrounding landscape. If you'd like to check it out more closely, you can find a list of materials and several screenshots <a href="http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=1117619">on the official <em>SWG</em> forums</a>.<br />

After <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/01/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-history/">cracking open the history textbooks</a> on one of the most famous (and infamous) MMOs of the past decade and talking to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/08/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-players/">two</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-players/">groups</a> of crack veterans, it was finally time for the Game Archaeologist to strap on his <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightwhip">lightwhip</a>, kick over the nearest Astromech droid, and dive headfirst into <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/index.vm"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a>. <br />
<br />
Although I've been interested in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies/"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a> since 2003, its apparent complexity scared me off back in the beginning (when I made the choice to scoot over to the equally complex <a href="http://www.anarchy-online.com/"><em>Anarchy Online</em></a> during that time). Later on, I felt as if it was too late to jump on the <em>SWG </em>bandwagon, feeling as if the entire <em>Galaxies </em>playerbase was finishing up their Master's degrees and I'd be entering the equivalent of preschool. Fortunately, this article series gave me an excellent excuse to stop coming up with excuses and simply go for it -- and with the counsel of several friends and Massively writers who know the <em>SWG </em>ropes, I found my footing just fine.<br />

Did you hear this wildly overplayed news story about Darth Vader lately? According to a group of French psychiatrists and psychologists who have way too much time on their hands and not enough free press coverage, <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/star-wars-darth-vader-needed-therapy-blame-dark/story?id=10850290">they broke down Vader's personality</a> and "discovered" that he had borderline personality disorder.<br />
<br />
Pardon my meme, but <a href="http://encyclopediadramatica.com/O_rly">O RLY?</a> Sure, the guy killed kids, committed domestic abuse, went on an extreme power trip, betrayed his mentor, tortured one of his kids and tried to kill the other, choked any underling who failed him and struggled with sexual repression -- but thank goodness that we have professionals around to tell us the obvious. Now, if those psychiatrists can turn their attention to George Lucas and his making of Howard the Duck, we'd be making progress.<br />
<br />
Anyway, continuing from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/01/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-history/">my history retrospective</a> of <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/index.vm"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/08/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-players/">last week's interview</a> with the first batch of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies/"><em>SWG</em></a> vets, the Game Archaeologist now ventures into a subculture long believed to be extinct: post-NGE players who love the game. Join me in welcoming our newest expedition members: Bill "Flynne Cordova" Van Malsen, Alex "Danick Jett" Wiberg, Stephanie "Jao" Koehler and <a href="http://www.eartheternal.com/"><em>Earth Eternal's</em></a> Andrew "Titas Lightdust" Sipotz. Never tell them the odds and they'll get you there safe every time.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-players/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Game Archaeologist and the Star of the Galaxies: The players (part 2)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-players/">The Game Archaeologist and the Star of the Galaxies: The players (part 2)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 13:30:00 EST. Rumors and speculation <a href="http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=56275">have been floating around</a> this week about the Jedi Knight, so no big surprise when <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> reveals that, yes, Knights of the Jedi persuasion are in fact a player class in <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>. The news comes with <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/jedi-knight">all the expected class page accoutrements</a> such as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/2407556/full/">screens</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-wars-the-old-republic-concept-art/2407551/full/">concept art</a> and a few videos showing off three Jedi Knight attacks. It's all standard practice information release at this point, which only slightly dilutes the excitement of the announcement.<br />
<br />
The videos all show the proper level of Jedi powerhousing that you'd expect, although we're not entirely cool with all the droid destroying that's happening. Sure, we're aware that unlike Sith, Jedi are limited to disabling droids and pushing things around but that's no excuse to pick on the little helpless mechanical people. Yes, we said people -- robots are people too!<br />
<br />
In all seriousness, this is probably the class reveal everyone has been waiting for and/or expecting all along. Jedi and Sith were a given, so from here on out it's almost entirely anyone's guess. Spy? Rogue? Droids? Wookiees? Albino Ewoks? Okay, that's a little silly, nobody wants to play a rogue over a spy.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-concept-art/">Star Wars: The Old Republic Concept Art</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-concept-art/#1255574"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/ca_20090102_colorstudy03_1600x780_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-concept-art/#2004016"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/05/ca4_800x257_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-concept-art/#1255575"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/ca_20090102_human_male_concept_863x1076_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-concept-art/#2243369"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/08/ca1_800x450_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-concept-art/#1255576"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/ca_20090102_ithorian_concept_1600x1375_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/">Star Wars: The Old Republic Screenshots</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/#1357047"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/02/ss_20090213_004_1600x900_thumbnail.jpg" alt="A Hutt" title="A Hutt" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/#1357048"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/02/ss_20090213_005_1600x900_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Cantina of the Hutt Palace" title="Cantina of the Hutt Palace" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/#1111058"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/10/ss_20081021_droidswithblasters_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Droids with blasters" title="Droids with blasters" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/#1111059"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/10/ss_20081021_tomblightsaberduel_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Tomb Lightsaber Duel " title="Tomb Lightsaber Duel " /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/#1111060"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/10/ss_20081021_trooperopensfire_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Trooper opens fire" title="Trooper opens fire" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/30/jedi-knight-officially-steps-into-the-old-republic-spotlight/">Jedi Knight officially steps into The Old Republic spotlight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 12:00:00 EST. I've been holding off on this for a little while, but it's the kind of subject that is impossible for me to avoid indefinitely. Classes <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/30/what-are-swtors-three-final-classes/">were the last topic I touched upon</a>, and there was quite a lot of conversation. In fact, there was a whole bunch of it to follow. So let's discuss the potential races for <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.swtor.com">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a> and, as usual, feel free to toss in your thoughts and picks in the comments. It wouldn't be the same without them.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/17/the-digital-continuum-let-the-star-wars-races-begin/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Let the Star Wars races begin</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/17/the-digital-continuum-let-the-star-wars-races-begin/">The Digital Continuum: Let the Star Wars races begin</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 17 Aug 2009 17:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.swtor.com/media/webcomic/act1?comicpage=22#/22/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's</em> free online comic</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/threat-of-peace">Threat of Peace</a>, has reached issue number eight and finally introduced one of those lovable droids. It's safe to say that so far throughout this storyline, many of the prominent characters and their prospective races featured in this comic have the potential to be in-game racial options. Humans, Twi'leks and Wookiees have all been popular thus far, and now it looks like droids may in fact be a possibility. It's positively delightful!<br /><br />Of course, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/e3-2009-star-wars-the-old-republic-demonstration/">races that have seen the limelight</a> in Threat of Peace aren't the only signs of things to come. Bounty Hunters and Troopers both received notable attention. Whether or not this sets any kind of reasonable precedent is something we'll leave up to you, however.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/threat-of-peace-issue-8-could-be-dropping-hints/">Threat of Peace issue 8 could be dropping hints</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 07 Jun 2009 16:00:00 EST. There are many worlds to explore in the Star Wars universe. Some are nothing but deserts, while others are covered completely by a single city. So how do you decide which planets to include in something like <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/kotor-mmo-confirmed-by-electronic-arts/">the upcoming KOTOR MMO</a>? Well, you could just <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/the-digital-continuum-five-kotor-mmo-jedi-counter-measures/">flippantly choose the ones that appeal to you the most</a>, or spend way too much of your time researching planets to figure out which ones would suit both MMO gameplay and lore the best. I went with the latter choice for this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-digital-continuum/">Digital Continuum</a>. Feel free to click the image above and read through the results.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/six-planets-kotoro-shouldnt-be-without/">Six planets KOTORO shouldn't be without</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/six-planets-kotoro-shouldnt-be-without/#1021170"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/0001alderaan_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Alderaan" title="Alderaan" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/six-planets-kotoro-shouldnt-be-without/#1021229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/002coruscant_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Coruscant" title="Coruscant" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/six-planets-kotoro-shouldnt-be-without/#1021242"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/0003korriban_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Korriban" title="Korriban" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/six-planets-kotoro-shouldnt-be-without/#1021257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/0004kashyyyk_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Kashyyyk" title="Kashyyyk" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/six-planets-kotoro-shouldnt-be-without/#1021258"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/0001taris_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Taris" title="Taris" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/06/the-digital-continuum-six-planets-kotoro-shouldnt-be-without/">The Digital Continuum: Six planets KOTORO shouldn't be without</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 06 Sep 2008 12:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/kotor-mmo-confirmed-by-electronic-arts/">the less-than-grandiose announcement</a> that Electronic Arts, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware/">BioWare</a> and Lucas Arts are working together on a <span style="font-style: italic;">KOTOR MMO</span>, I've found myself pondering the game that until now was nothing but a rumor. Granted, I already <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/bioware-mmo-release-window-revealed-kotor-rumors-persist/">thought about the game quite a lot</a> even before it was the now more official affair.<br /><br />There are no two ways about it. Star Wars as an MMO presents developers with a tough issue: how to deal with the Jedi class. I still think that one of the many mistakes with <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/index.vm">Star Wars Galaxies</a> was setting it during the original trilogy, where Jedi were almost non-existent. I got the draw of the setting, but for an MMO it really didn't cater to the fervent desire to roll a Obi-wanna be character. Yet I also feel like it's a mistake making Jedi readily available without presenting players with other options that are equally appealing. Neo-futuristic-magical-samurai with energy swords aren't a hard sale for most players choosing which class they want to play. Thankfully, BioWare seems to have chosen itself a wonderfully powerful loop-hole: <span style="font-style: italic;">Knights of the Old Republic</span>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/the-digital-continuum-five-kotor-mmo-jedi-counter-measures/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Five KOTOR MMO Jedi counter-measures</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/the-digital-continuum-five-kotor-mmo-jedi-counter-measures/">The Digital Continuum: Five KOTOR MMO Jedi counter-measures</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 19 Jul 2008 11:30:00 EST.
