<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/18/creative-gag-hints-at-new-warhammer-online-class-reveal-on-jan/">Another round of</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/23/mythic-prank-hints-at-orc-choppa-career-coming-to-war-next-week/">mysterious packages have been sent</a> to the <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> blogging community, but this time it's not about additional classes -- oh no, this time it's personal. As in it's something of a personal ad sent by those blood-obsessed individuals known as Witch Elves. <a href="http://www.rainbowmmo.com/2009/01/my-bloody-valentine.html">Rainbow MMO was the lucky recipient</a> of this not-so-subtle hint at something happening in the second week of February, and of course it didn't take <a href="http://asuryanflame.blogspot.com/2009/01/something-from-mythic-comes-my-way.html">long for others</a> to get <a href="http://www.ferrel.me/?p=392">in on the action</a> as well.<br /><br />The prominent guess <a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/2009/01/27/poems-witch-elves-death-night/">by the fellows over at Wizards &amp; Wenches</a> is all of this is related to an official Dark Elf holiday called Death Night. This would be an evening where Witch Elves go crazy, pulling anyone off the street and sacrificing them to their dark god. Some of these crazed death-worshipers even go so far as to raid people's homes, which is why many Dark Elves board up their doors and windows in fear of being witch-napped.<br /><br />Assuming this is landing on Valentines day (second week in February) and that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/going-down-the-rabbit-hole-with-warhammer-onlines-live-events/">Mythic is all about embracing the horror and "awesomosity"</a> of the Warhammer IP, we'd wager that the Death Night guess is a pretty good bet.<hr />

Well, the first week of <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> 'Age of Blogging' has come and gone. It sure did go by in a Mary Poppins on 'spoonfuls of sugar' blur. So what was the eventual end-product of all those bloggers pounding their fingertips for the last 168 hours? <a href="http://thegreenskin.com/2009/01/08/age-of-blogging-week-1/">A whole truck-load of posts collected by The Greenskin blog about</a> <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Warhammer-Online/">Warhammer Online</a></em> from lots of new sources, which was certainly the goal -- albeit for the month of January.<br /><br />There are posts covering everything from exploiting terrain in-game to roleplaying your Orc or High Elf. So hats off to you, new and old WAR bloggers, for taking the first steps towards creating a robust community <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/09/a-players-perspective-on-top-ten-priorities-for-war-in-2009/">around your MMO of choice</a>. Of course, now the trick is to keep the steam running high and the rails hot with locomotion. Wait, did we just use a train metaphor? I think we did, oh boy.<hr />

<a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/author/Regis/">Regis</a> over at the <a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/">Wizards and Wenches</a> blog brings up a good point when it comes to both <a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/2009/01/05/why-cant-i-have-fun-and-level-at-the-same-time/">having fun and getting your levels in</a> -- sometimes you just can't have it both ways. Regis wants to spend more time in <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>'s <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/25/mark-jacobs-on-changes-to-wars-open-rvr/">open Realm vs. Realm combat</a>, enjoying the live PvP and the crazy times it produces, but feels that it just doesn't provide enough incentive past the fun aspect.<br /><br />One could easily level faster via questing and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/03/the-warhammer-herald-delves-back-into-pve-dungeons/">PvE opporunities</a>, or scenarios and questing simultaneously, but both can get extremely tedious after a while, especially when you're getting close to the maximum rank. On the other side of the fence you have RvR, which is a more varied activity when compared to questing and scenarios, but just doesn't pay out the experience points and feels more like a guilty pleasure that wastes time.<br /><br />Check out the <a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/2009/01/05/why-cant-i-have-fun-and-level-at-the-same-time/">full story</a> over at Wizards and Wenches to get the full gist of what's going on in Regis's mind when it comes to this sticky situation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/having-fun-just-isnt-rewarding-enough-on-its-own/">Having fun just isn't rewarding enough on its own</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 11:00:00 EST. A prime example of this is the very active <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> blogging community brought together by our friend <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com">CrazyKinux</a>, where <em>EVE</em>'s players contribute opinions, tips, even tutorials on a daily basis. Given how successful this has been with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a>, why can't MMO gamers rally around another title? <br /><br />It's possible that the next blogging community focused on a single MMO title will be based around <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>WAR</em></a>-centric blog "<a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/ ">Wizards &amp; Wenches</a>" has put out a call to the game's player base in <a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/2009/01/01/war-age-of-blogging/">WAR: Age of Blogging</a>. They're declaring January '09 to be the WAR: Age of Blogging month, and encourage any <em>Warhammer Online</em> players with something to say to jump in and start writing, even first-time bloggers. (For those who are relatively new to blogging, there's some support to be found at <a href="http://blogwarhammer.net/">Blog Warhammer</a> where they can help you get set up with a blogging platform like <a href="http://wordpress.com/">WordPress</a> or <a href="https://www.blogger.com/start">Blogger</a>.)<br /><br />Massively wishes the new <em>Warhammer Online</em> bloggers the best of luck, and we'd love to see the player community build something that turns out as well as <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/2008/06/eve-online-blog-pack.html">The <em>EVE</em> Blog Pack</a>. If the prospect of joining the ranks of the <em>WAR</em> bloggers has caught your interest, be sure to <a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/2009/01/01/war-age-of-blogging/">see the announcement post over at Wizards &amp; Wenches</a> for more info on how you can get involved.<hr />

One of the first and often touted systems being developed by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Mythic/">Mythic</a> for <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> was contribution. Anyone who's played a through a few Public Quests or Keep captures knows the contribution system is supposed to monitor how everyone plays and then dole out a proper score before a dice roll is applied to give it all a twinge of randomness. Well, a <a href="http://wnw.blogwarhammer.net/2008/11/24/contribution-is-dead-long-live-the-dice/">post over at Wizards &amp; Wenches</a> claims that they've discovered the secret formula to contribution: it doesn't exist.<br /><br />The claim -- which has discussions <a href="http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190135">threads at forums, along with screenshots</a> -- is that when a player enters a zone, they are given a dice roll that applies to them until they leave the zone or log out. This means that a player who gets first will continue to do so, no matter what, until another player with a higher roll comes along.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/warhammer-online-community-claims-contribution-system-a-sham/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Warhammer Online community claims contribution system a sham</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/warhammer-online-community-claims-contribution-system-a-sham/">Warhammer Online community claims contribution system a sham</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 15:00:00 EST.
