As an incentive to get players to make the jump to these servers, they'll reap a 20% experience and renown bonus for a limited time. Have a look at the Warhammer Herald announcement for more details, as well as their FAQ on free character transfers.

Sure, patch notes spell out most of those changes, but it's always good when an MMO developer opens up a test server for the players. It allows you to check out new game mechanics firsthand, risk-free, and see what works for you and what doesn't. More importantly, it lets the developer know what they need to improve. This is what Mythic Entertainment is doing for Warhammer Online players as of today (Tuesday, February 17th), letting them preview the changes coming to Realm vs. Realm combat as well as Career balance changes on the public test server.

Mythic will be conducting a large scale Tier 4 Open Field Realm vs. Realm test on Wednesday, February 18th at 8pm EST. The dev announcement states: "Bring your friends to the PTS and be amongst the first to experience the new Zone Domination system in a focused player test. Be sure to log on early to join the premade guilds (points of contact for invites will be announced in game) for the night."

Detailed info on how to access the public test server is found in the Warhammer Herald announcement as are the patch notes for the public test of Game Update 1.2.

All transgressions against you are recorded in The Great Book of Grudges, as are your own acts of retaliation. Best served cold, and all that.

It's also gotten the nod from Mythic Entertainment. In their words, "The Book of Grudges transforms your fighting experience by adding a meta game and another objective to RvR. Just in case you need another reason to perpetuate the extermination of your enemy Dammaz Kron has your answer." Dammaz Kron can be downloaded from Curse and all the info about the mod is listed there as well.

The dungeons impacted are: Bilerot Burrow, Bloodwought Enclave, Sigmar's Crypts, and Warpblade Tunnels.

New "Rare" and "Very Rare" items have been introduced into all of the city dungeons, but even general loot is now better distributed amongst lower-level monsters found throughout the dungeons. These increased amounts of (lower level) item drops that are less tied to main bosses provide greater rewards to those players unable to complete a given dungeon.
Continue reading Warhammer Online alters loot drops in city dungeons

Warhammer Online alters loot drops in city dungeons originally appeared on Massively on Tue, 09 Dec 2008 17:00:00 EST. Ever since Warhammer Online slipped from its precarious perch in the mud, it's been something of a struggle for Mythic to keep our attention in lieu of more current, relevant-feeling fare. After all, there's only so much speculating you can do before you realize it's still months away from being in your hands. Still, as nuts for the Warhammer lore, we take notice any time a beta update hits our inbox, because it means another chance as at sweet, sweet immersion.

This News From the Front focuses on the battle on the skirts of Altdorf -- those scenarios that would manifest themselves if the forces of the Empire began to cede to the tide of Chaos and their Dark Elf allies. The beta had both PvE and PvP phases, and prominent among the features being tested were the Keeps and Sieges dynamic, which Mythic wanted to test for fluidity and fun. And of course, what update would be complete without a handful of written lore thrown into the lot as well. If you're still interested in WAR and haven't sold your soul to Krom, it's definitely worth checking out.
New WAR beta update focused on defense of Altdorf originally appeared on Massively on Fri, 23 May 2008 18:30:00 EST. It's always an entertaining read, but the latest post is also chock-full of great information, specifically surrounding the North American beta test.

Reading more like a Q&A/FAQ than a simple letter, the post talks about how to get into the beta, why you haven't gotten in even if you think you should have, people who have won slots in the test who haven't been playing, and more. Both the official Warhammer Online site and the community site, Warhammer Herald, have been given a fresh look. The upgraded format will supposedly help in getting more news out to the public, and faster than before. This is only the beginning of the site renovations, with some new features in the works that have not been implemented just yet. Also, fans of the Legends & Lore section may notice its absence -- we are told that this is only temporary, and it should return even better than before.

Of course, this news pales in comparison to the huge announcement earlier today, and those eagerly awaiting WAR's release may be feeling a little down. Look on the bright side -- there's even more time now to get those new site features in!
Official WAR site gets a makeover originally appeared on Massively on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 13:00:00 EST. In the latest news from the Warhammer Herald, the Mythic crew updates those unlucky souls still wandering on the outskirts of the Warhammer Online beta on the progress that's been made in live testing over the last several months. The most recent beta push has focused on the down and dirty combat between the High Elves of Ulthuan and their dastardly neighbors to the north, the Dark Elves. The update picks up the perspective of the Dark Elves, and includes some small chunks of lore, specifics on the various Chapters that underwent testing, and some beta journals from those lucky SOBs who got a beta invite.

For my part, I think they've really done a good job of capturing the spirit of the Dark Elves. Whatever your feelings are about witches, worshiping the gods of Chaos, or scantly clad ladies, the overriding drive that unites all Dark Elves is an undying hatred for those haughty, do-nothing fairy-boys, the High Elves. There's just something endearing to me about a race of people whose primary motivation is spite. Only in the Warhammer universe could they pull something like that off.

The update also says that the next phase of testing will focus on Empire and Chaos. Let's hope that once that's done, they'll finally move into guild beta.
WAR beta update, dark elf-style originally appeared on Massively on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. Some of the approximately 560,706 people who have applied for a coveted spot in the Warhammer Online beta suffered a bit of a jerk-around from the EA Mythic folks this past week. Reportedly, an email went out to many would-be beta testers telling them to update their DxDiag files. Understandably, many players interpreted this as a sign that they had finally been inducted. After all, it was a message from the Warhammer Online Beta Center. Couple that with a message on the Warhammer Herald announcing that a few more beta invites had been sent out and this made for a very optimistic group of fans.

Unfortunately, these hopes were soon dashed as players attempted to visit the the beta center and found that their status was still set to "applied" and not "accepted." Apparently emails intended for current beta testers had been sent to a group of applicants by mistake. EA Mythic is asking would-be players to, "Please disregard the email if you are currently not in beta." Easy for them to say, we're sure many eager gamers were stung by that sudden 180.
WAR beta invites: now you see em, now you don't originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 02 Feb 2008 18:58:00 EST.
