<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/05/the-mmo-report-shut-up-about-mass-effect-edition/">Last week</a> we told you about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse-entertainment">En Masse's</a> casting of <strike>Colonel Tigh</strike>, er, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/michael-hogan">Michael Hogan</a> for voice-acting work in its new <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA</em></a> MMO. Now the company brings word that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/claudia-black">Claudia Black</a> will be joining Hogan in the recording studio to bring aspects of <em>TERA's</em> fantasy story to life.<br />
<br />
Hogan will lend his talents to the Valkyon Federation's formidable Commander Samael, while Black (best known for her role as Aeryn Sun in Farscape, as well as voice-acting stints in <em>Dragon Age </em>and the <em>Uncharted</em> series) brings her considerable charms to the role of Commander Freya of Allemantheia.<br />
<br />
If you want to see Hogan in action behind the mic, check out the clip after the break. Finally, En Masse says to keep your eyes and ears peeled for more <em>TERA</em> voice-acting reveals later this month.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/09/michael-hogan-and-claudia-black-head-teras-voice-acting-cast/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Michael Hogan and Claudia Black head TERA's voice-acting cast</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/09/michael-hogan-and-claudia-black-head-teras-voice-acting-cast/">Michael Hogan and Claudia Black head TERA's voice-acting cast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 09 Apr 2012 22:00:00 EST. Voice-acting in MMOs seems to be all the rage these days, and <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/gazillion-entertainment">Gazillion Entertainment</a>, publisher of the free-to-play <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/super-hero-squad-online">Super Hero Squad Online</a></em>, seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. In a press release today, the company announced that each and every hero and villain in the game will be receiving a full vocal makeover, and many characters will be voiced by the same actors who provide voice work for the Super Hero Squad television series.<br />
	<br />
	<a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/jay-minn">Jay Minn</a>, vice president of <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/the-amazing-society">The Amazing Society</a> -- the development studio behind the games -- is obviously quite pleased with the decision to give voice to the game's dozens of characters, stating that "the heroes and villains in <em>Marvel Super Hero Squad Online</em> have always had their own unique personalities and attitudes... We're excited and very proud to let our heroes and villains speak their minds!" The statement adds that the game currently includes over 3000 lines of spoken dialogue (with over 100 attributed to everyone's favorite <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zan0a_Etpbo&amp;t=0m10s">Merc with a Mouth</a>), so players can expect plenty of witty quips from their characters of choice.<br />

It remains to be seen if <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars--The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> will set a number of records in its lifetime, but it's already <a href="http://news.mmosite.com/content/c/2012-01-05/swtor_is_awarded_the_largest_entertainment_voice_over_project_ever.shtml">made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records for 2012</a>. At over 200,000 lines of recorded dialogue, the game has scored a record for having the largest amount of voice acting not only for a video game but for any entertainment project. The record appears in the Guinness Book of World Records Gamer's Edition, on the stands now in the US and on sale in the UK on the 19th.<br />
<br />
Of course, considering the amount of press the game has received for its voice cast, we suspect this won't come as a huge surprise, but it's interesting to see. The book also includes a list of the best Star Wars games in the franchise's history, which unsurprisingly includes <em>Knights of the Old Republic</em>, perhaps a harbinger of <em>SWTOR</em>'s future.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/05/star-wars-the-old-republic-gets-into-the-record-books/">Star Wars: The Old Republic gets into the record books</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 18:00:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/eve-spotlight">EVE Spotlight</a> is a biweekly feature in which we interview prominent members of </em><a href="http://www.eve-online.com">EVE Online</a><em>'s player community or development team. Every two weeks, we'll be shining the spotlight on a player or developer who has a significant impact on </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/">EVE</a><em> to highlight the efforts of </em>EVE<em>'s most influential people.</em><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> is well-known for its community's awesome cinematic productions, and no film is more renowned than the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/clear-skies/">incredible machinima Clear Skies</a>. Directed by <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ian-chisholm">Ian Chisholm</a>, Clear Skies seamlessly merges in-game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a> footage with scenes composed using Valve's Source development kit. The films follow the adventures of captain John Rourke and his crew aboard the Minmatar Tempest class battleship Clear Skies. With more luck than sense, the Clear Skies crew continually finds itself in sticky situations but manages to come out on top.<br />
<br />
The first Clear Skies film won the award for best long-format film at the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/03/eve-online-film-clear-skies-wins-at-machinima-filmfest-2008/">2008 annual Machinima Filmfest</a>, and a second film solidified the series' huge cult following. Clear Skies has even inspired other players <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/19/eve-spotlight-an-interview-with-kyoko-sakoda/">like Kyoko Sakoda</a> to produce their own cinematic masterpieces set in the <em>EVE Online</em> universe. The third and probably final film in the Clear Skies series <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/clear-skies-3-machinima-undocks-to-excited-fans/">was released earlier this week</a>, absolutely shattering all expectations.<br />
<br />
In this massive edition of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/eve-spotlight/">EVE Spotlight</a>, I interview Clear Skies creator Ian Chisholm to find out all about the production of Clear Skies III.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/eve-spotlight-an-interview-with-clear-skies-creator-ian-chishol/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Spotlight: An interview with Clear Skies creator Ian Chisholm</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/eve-spotlight-an-interview-with-clear-skies-creator-ian-chishol/">EVE Spotlight: An interview with Clear Skies creator Ian Chisholm</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 02 Jun 2011 18:00:00 EST. Episode three of the official <a href="http://tera-online.com"><em>TERA</em></a> podcast is a wrap, and community director Jason "<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jason-mical">BrotherMagneto</a>" Mical sits down with <a href="http://enmasse.com">En Masse</a> producers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/brian-knox">Brian Knox</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/chris-hager">Chris Hager</a> to talk voice acting, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2011">E3 2011</a>, and the recently concluded <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/tera-releases-community-play-event-numbers/">community play event</a>. There's also a few interesting blurbs related to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA's</em></a> endgame, both in terms of reaching it and what it entails.<br />
<br />
Hager discusses the challenges of recording "greet and goodbye" dialogue snippets for quest-givers as well as more involved cinematic presentations that will occur throughout the <em>TERA</em> progression experience.<br />
<br />
Knox jumps right to fan concerns about <em>TERA's</em> leveling curve, saying that it doesn't have much in common with your typical grindfest. "<em>We're putting a lot of focus on adding more content to the endgame and making sure there's lots to do at max level. Getting to max level in </em>TERA<em>, it doesn't take a lot of time. We've made sure that progress is fast and efficient</em>," Knox explains. So what is there to do at endgame? Knox says that dungeons and boss fights will play a significant role, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse-entertainment">En Masse</a> will be tweaking the difficulty levels to continually challenge players.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/tera-producer-getting-to-endgame-doesnt-take-a-lot-of-time/">TERA producer: Getting to endgame doesn't take a lot of time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 05 May 2011 18:00:00 EST. As every day passes, more and more people are joining the <a href="http://blackprophecy.gamigo.com/"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a> beta testing. Slowly, the localizations are being smoothed out, and even more goodies are being added into this hotly anticipated sci-fi space dogfighter MMO. For those of you who haven't quite made it in as yet, as well as those who have but are curious about the nuts-and-bolts, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Gamigo/">Gamigo</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Reakktor-Media/">Reakktor Media</a> have released a video today that offers an interesting look at ongoing behind-the-scenes production. <br />
<br />
In this video, we take a trip to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Periscope-Studios/">Periscope Studios</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/T-Recs-Studios/">T-Recs Studios</a> to watch just a little bit of how the voicework is done. Along with that, we're treated to a look at just how they get the voice to match the mouth animations of the NPCs without it looking completely silly or taking obnoxious amounts of time. Whether this upcoming free-to-play game is on your personal radar or you're more the type who is fascinated with the overall industry, it's a video worth spending a few minutes of your life to check out. We've embedded this new behind-the-scenes video after the break for your viewing pleasure.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/video-shows-off-voicework-in-black-prophecy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video shows off voicework in Black Prophecy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/video-shows-off-voicework-in-black-prophecy/">Video shows off voicework in Black Prophecy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 20 Jan 2011 14:00:00 EST. Not only does the third <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20090717_002"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em> Developer Dispatch video</a> show plenty of in-game voice acting, it shows off the early user interface -- including the one used to make your moral choices in the game. In fact, if we didn't know any better we'd say the game looks like it's coming along faster than anyone had anticipated.<br /><br />Then again, we do know better. Even though the footage you'll see is incredibly smooth (especially the combat) don't be fooled. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> has every intention of doing their normal thing, which means the game is done when it's done and with an MMO that can be a <em>very</em> lengthy amount of time. So much time that we highly doubt <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> is coming out anytime before 2011.<br /><br />No need to lament, because at you can check out the video below the break and let the awesome production values wash over you like a wave of editing, game developing and voice acting nirvana.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/18/latest-swtor-video-showcases-astounding-levels-of-in-game-footag/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Latest SWTOR video showcases astounding levels of in-game footage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/18/latest-swtor-video-showcases-astounding-levels-of-in-game-footag/">Latest SWTOR video showcases astounding levels of in-game footage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 18 Jul 2009 10:00:00 EST. So you've heard that <em><a href="http://www.swtor.com">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> is going to be completely voice acted. All player characters and non-player characters will have a professional voiced track for every bit of dialog. We're certain that you, much like ourselves, have imagined this project to be a huge undertaking. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare">BioWare's</a> pretty sure most of us are underestimating this, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20090710_001">and their latest developer diary</a> makes sure we truly understand the depth and range of the project. <br /><br />Like, for instance, did you know that the complete script for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> is larger than 40+ novels? We bet you also didn't know that, so far, five cities ( Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco, and Toronto ) are currently playing host to voice recording sessions. There's plenty more information in the blog itself, so go check it out!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/peer-into-the-bowels-of-swtors-voice-production/">Peer into the bowels of SWTOR's voice production</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 10 Jul 2009 16:00:00 EST. Giant Bomb has been pumping out some great videos from E3 2009, but we of course <a href="http://www.giantbomb.com/e3-2009-interview-star-wars-the-old-republic/17-842/">took immediate notice of this interview</a> with two <a href="http://www.swtor.com" style="font-style: italic;">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a> developers from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a>. Most of the conversation revolves around information we already know, until one of the devs reveals, <span style="font-style: italic;">"we have literally thousands of roles which are voiced in our game, which are done by many, many hundreds of voice actors."</span> We knew there was going to be a lot of people, but, okay we didn't expect <span style="font-style: italic;">that</span> many!<br /><br /><em>Hundreds.</em><br /><br />Much of the Massively crew agreed that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars--The-Old-Republic/" style="font-style: italic;">Star Wars: The Old Republic's</a> classes would be limited to four or five on each side, due to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/e3-2009-star-wars-the-old-republic-is-worlds-first-fully-voi/">the fully-voiced announcement</a>. Now we're thinking differently with thousands of roles filled by many hundreds of voice actors. Suddenly, six or seven per side doesn't seem like a far away fever dream.<br /><br />If you'd like to see how it ends when you ask a BioWare dev about <span style="font-style: italic;">SWTOR's</span> release date, check out the full video after the break.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/star-wars-the-old-republic-has-hundreds-of-voice-actors/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Wars: The Old Republic has hundreds of voice actors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/star-wars-the-old-republic-has-hundreds-of-voice-actors/">Star Wars: The Old Republic has hundreds of voice actors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 09 Jun 2009 16:00:00 EST.
