	<a href="http://aaportal.net/en/world-of-archeage/west-continent/lillet-meadows.html"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/67.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
It's been a few weeks since we've heard tell of any <em><a href="http://www.archeage.com/en">ArcheAge</a></em> news, but fortunately our friends from AAportal have come through with a new article on <a href="http://www.xlgames.com/">XL Games</a>' upcoming sandpark title.<br />
<br />
Ordinarily we'd describe this sort of piece as a zone preview, but given that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/archeage"><em>ArcheAge</em></a> is an open world the phrase "location preview" seems more appropriate. The location in question is the <a href="http://aaportal.net/en/world-of-archeage/west-continent/lillet-meadows.html">Lillet Meadows</a>, an area designed for players between levels 10 and 15 and situated near the Elven and Nuian starting areas. The meadows lie in a lush, fertile valley far from the hustle and bustle of the nearest city, and AAportal spends a good bit of virtual ink describing the natural surroundings.<br />
<br />
Despite the tranquil setting, enemies abound in the area, most of them variations on undead that include wraiths, ghosts, and a new type of zombie that apparently features broken weapon fragments instead of limbs. Head to <a href="http://aaportal.net/en/world-of-archeage/west-continent/lillet-meadows.html">AAportal</a> for all the details, and don't forget to click the image links to see all the Lillet Meadows screenshots.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/05/archeage-lillet-meadows-location-previewed/">ArcheAge Lillet Meadows location previewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 05 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST. <em>"Monday the world can fall apart / Tuesday, Wednesday they eat my heart / Oh, Thursday my chainsaw doesn't start / It's Friday I'm in lab."</em><br />
<br />
We're reminded of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa2nLEhUcZ0">the immortal words of The Cure</a> as we watch <a href="http://undeadlabs.com/2011/04/zombies/friday-at-the-lab/">this neat behind-the-scenes glimpse</a> into the inner workings of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/undead-labs/">Undead Labs</a>. Ever wonder what it might be like to actually go to work and spend your whole day creating a post-apocalyptic zombie world? And get paid for it? Watch these devs and feel the bitter sting of envy at the back of your neck.<br />
<br />
While the video doesn't go into depth about Undead Labs' <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/gdc-2011-jeff-strain-lets-us-eat-err-pick-his-brains-on-u/">as-yet unnamed MMO</a> or <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/undead-labs-reveals-first-release-title-and-its-not-the-zombie/">the XBLA game </a>the studio is developing, it does offer tantalizing sights such as sheets of concept art, in-game building models, and even a brief bit of man-vs-zombie mayhem. And there are few things more surreal than witnessing a room full of businessmen and women seriously discussing zombie behaviors.<br />
<br />
You can watch the full video after the jump!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/16/its-friday-im-in-lab-undead-labs-open-their-doors-to-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>It's Friday I'm in lab: Undead Labs opens its doors to you</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/16/its-friday-im-in-lab-undead-labs-open-their-doors-to-you/">It's Friday I'm in lab: Undead Labs opens its doors to you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 16 Apr 2011 11:00:00 EST. Why are you still alive in <a href="http://www.champions-online.com"><em>Champions Online</em></a> when everyone else is dead? Because you follow the rules. Rule number one -- cardio. The ones without travel powers are the first to go. Rule number two -- double-tap. You never know when someone's going to claim the other zombie you want to kill, after all. Yes, <a href="http://www.champions-online.com/bloodmoon">the Blood Moon</a> is rising once again, and that means a few days of zombie-killing fun for the heroes of Millennium City.<br />
<br />
Running for the first time since the game's free-to-play conversion, the event is currently open and <a href="http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=125686">will run until 11:59 p.m. PST on Sunday</a>. <a href="http://www.champions-online.com/bloodmoon">The full outline of the event</a> lists all of the rewards open to players who take part in thwarting the onslaught of undead, werewolves, and other dark magic. <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Champions-Online/">Champions Online</a></em> players can log in and start enjoying the madness right away, and of course the game's business model means anyone can jump in for a bit of event fun.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/25/blood-moon-event-running-in-champions-online/">Blood Moon event running in Champions Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 25 Feb 2011 20:00:00 EST. Back in November 2009, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/23/arenanet-co-founder-jeff-strain-opens-new-studio/">ArenaNet co-founder Jeff Strain left the company</a> to create a new development studio named <a href="http://undeadlabs.com">Undead Labs</a>. His plans included the development of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/interview-with-undead-labs-jeff-strain/">a zombie-survival console MMO</a>, an idea that has had fans of zombie apocalypse games excited ever since. In August 2010, Undead Labs graced the news once again when <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/11/four-arenanet-team-members-joining-undead-labs/">four more of ArenaNet's developers left to join the new studio</a> and work on the upcoming zombie MMO. It wasn't long until we began to see the first details released of the impending zombie apocalypse, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/06/braaaaainssss-first-details-about-undead-labs-zombie-mmo-revea/">with a huge section in EGM Magazine</a>. Most notable was the revelation that the game would be a console-only open-world sandbox.<br />
<br />
Undead Labs <a href="http://undeadlabs.com/2011/02/news/undead-labs-and-microsoft-game-studios-to-create-zombie-survival-franchise-on-xbox-360/">unveiled its first officially planned release title today</a>, and fans of the upcoming zombie MMO won't be disappointed. While the company's first release won't be the zombie MMO we all want so badly, the studio plans to first release a smaller-scale online zombie survival game on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Live_Arcade">XBox Live Arcade</a>. This game, code-named "Class 3" for now, will showcase the gameplay, setting and technology that will be used to develop the as-yet untitled zombie MMO. The team at Undead Labs plans to then use the game as a kind of training ground to help develop better gameplay experiences for the MMO that will follow. Although that means we'll have to wait a while to get our hands on that zombie-survival sandbox world we've all been dreaming of, the result should be a game that appeals more to players.<br />
<br />
Jeff Strain, founder of Undead Labs, released the following statement: <em>"Our mission is to create original online games that truly feel at home on the console platform, and Xbox 360 is a fantastic platform for online console gaming. We plan to create an ambitious open world XBLA game and use its gameplay, setting, and technology as the foundation for a full online world game."</em><br />
<br />
<strong>[Update: Jeff Strain's also released a tongue-in-cheek "</strong><a href="http://undeadlabs.com/2011/02/news/rude-qa-2/"><strong>Rude Q&amp;A</strong></a><strong>" on Undead Labs' blog. It discusses the team's plans and goals for the new game as well as aims to stave off any misconceptions about both upcoming titles.]</strong><br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/undead-labs-reveals-first-release-title-and-its-not-the-zombie/">Undead Labs reveals first release title, and it's not the zombie MMO [Updated]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 03 Feb 2011 15:00:00 EST. Elves. Dwarves. Humans. Halflings. Gnomes. Hobbits. Dark elves. High elves. Half-elves. Wood elves. Keebler elves. Elvish impersonators.<br />
<br />
Are you as tired as I am of the endless regurgitation of stock fantasy races in our MMOs? It seems inconceivable (<em>I do not think that means what you think it means</em>) for a new fantasy title to come out without most of the above races infesting the character creation screen with moldy unoriginality, putrescent stank, and dusty boredom.<br />
<br />
That's why today I'm standing up to praise 10 MMOs that dare to go above and beyond the stale by offering mostly unique and different races than the rest of the market. Hopefully future games will learn from their example and throw off the yokes of generic oppression to give us something bold and refreshing!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/13/the-perfect-ten-best-non-traditional-mmo-fantasy-races/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Perfect Ten: Best non-traditional MMO fantasy races</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/13/the-perfect-ten-best-non-traditional-mmo-fantasy-races/">The Perfect Ten: Best non-traditional MMO fantasy races</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 13 Jan 2011 14:00:00 EST. There's something about zombies and video games that bind geeks together in harmony, which is why we've been anxious to see what <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jeff-strain/">Jeff Strain's</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/undead-labs/">Undead Labs</a> has in store for our favorite end-of-the-world scenario. Well drop your linen and start your grinnin', because <a href="http://www.gamebynight.com/?p=2319">Game By Night reports</a> that <a href="http://www.egmnow.com/">EGM's</a> latest physical issue (241.0) is chock-full of zombie goodness on the project.<br />
<br />
The unnamed MMO is going to be console-only and will take place in today's world following a zombie apocalypse. Strain promises that the world will be dynamic and malleable -- think "sandbox" -- as players will build up defenses to protect settlements, lay down traps for the zombie horde and eventually take the fight to the undead. There may also be gardening (yup, you read that right).<br />
<br />
A more dynamic world isn't the only cue from modern MMO development that Undead Labs is taking -- the game will skew more toward quick action-based fights than traditional MMO combat: <em>"Banish the memories you have of the PC MMO paradigm for combat, and start thinking AAA console action game... weapons (like the M14 assault rifle or long-bladed machete) need to feel snap-fast and satisfying, to pierce bones and dismember limbs just so."</em><br />
<br />
While the title is still in very early stages, EGM says that the team is looking to allow a more free-form character development, with players taking on specialty roles instead of being forced into rigid class constructs. <a href="http://www.gamebynight.com/?p=2319">You can read the full analysis</a> over at Game By Night.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/06/braaaaainssss-first-details-about-undead-labs-zombie-mmo-revea/">Braaaaainssss: First details about Undead Labs' zombie MMO revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 06 Oct 2010 09:00:00 EST. It's hard being the youngest child -- you get the hand-me-downs, suffer through swirlies by older siblings, and eventually develop such a neurosis that it requires seven different brands of horse tranquilizers to make it through the day. Not that I would actually know, being an oldest child and all. But I suppose it would be a hard-knock life.<br />
<br />
In a couple ways, <a href="http://ac.turbine.com/"><em>Asheron's Call</em></a> was the youngest of the three MMO siblings that comprised the first major MMO generation. <a href="http://www.uoherald.com/news/"><em>Ultima Online</em></a>, the big brother, had prestige and legacy behind it, and middle child <a href="http://everquest.station.sony.com/"><em>EverQuest</em></a> quickly became the most popular at school. And then there was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/asherons-call/"><em>Asheron's Call</em></a>, poking its head on the scene in late 1999 as a cooperative project between developer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Turbine/">Turbine</a> and publisher Microsoft. <em>AC</em> never got the recognition of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/ultima-online"><em>Ultima Online</em></a> nor the numbers of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest"><em>EverQuest</em></a>, but this scrappy title became a fan favorite and endured even to this day -- <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/asherons-call-2/">beyond its own sequel</a>, believe it or not.<br />
<br />
Instead of plowing through a stale history report of <em>Asheron's Call</em> today, I thought it'd be fun to come up with a list of the eight most unique aspects of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/asherons-call-lead-designer-talks-10-year-anniversary-the-mmo/">this fairly innovative 11-year-old MMO</a>. Ah lists, how I adore thee -- let me count the ways. Eight ways, to be precise!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-asheron-recall-the-highlights/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Game Archaeologist and the Asheron Recall: The highlights</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-asheron-recall-the-highlights/">The Game Archaeologist and the Asheron Recall: The highlights</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 05 Oct 2010 15:00:00 EST. The team at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/TrionWorlds/">Trion Worlds</a> has been stepping up its game of late with <a href="http://www.riftgame.com/en/"><em>Rift: Planes of Telara</em></a>, showing off more and more of the gameplay and zones. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/29/rift-planes-of-telara-unveils-the-fire-rift/">preview of the Fire Rift</a> was appropriately dynamic, but with the most recent preview at <a href="http://riftnexus.com">Rift Nexus</a>, the game <a href="http://riftnexus.com/page/articles/_/rift-news/rift-planes-of-telara-exclusive-stonefield-z-r71">shows off a more grounded region in Stonefield</a>. An early zone for the Defiant faction, the area features battles against both titans and undead for low-level characters on their way through the leveling process.<br />
<br />
The ancient Eth were responsible for bringing the titans to the land, using them as guards for the precious mines of the area... until the titans raised an army and engaged in a brutal war against their would-be masters. Now the titans are imprisoned within the earth, but their influence still spreads throughout the zone. It's quite possible they're behind the undead that are slowly spreading from Granite Falls, something players will have to investigate for themselves. The description alone doesn't do the zone justice, however, so click past the break for an embedded flythrough of the region. <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift">Rift: Planes of Telara</a></em> doesn't yet have a solid release date, but it's shaping up nicely, especially if it continues to <a href="http://riftnexus.com/page/articles/_/rift-news/rift-planes-of-telara-exclusive-stonefield-z-r71">build upon such a solid foundation</a>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/01/getting-down-to-earth-with-stonefield-in-rift-planes-of-telara/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Getting down to earth with Stonefield in Rift: Planes of Telara</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/01/getting-down-to-earth-with-stonefield-in-rift-planes-of-telara/">Getting down to earth with Stonefield in Rift: Planes of Telara</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 01 Sep 2010 18:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.champions-online.com/promo/bloodmoon/bloodmoon.html"><em>Champions Online's</em> Blood Moon update</a> has finally been revealed, and wow does it sound pretty cool. Beginning in October, the update will add the Celestial powerset, which sounds like a versatile arrangement of powers allowing you to heal allies or harm enemies.<br /><br />The actual in-game event itself looks to be exciting, as it involves fighting off a dark sorcerer known as Takofanes. We're decidedly excited about the 'Zombie Apocalypse' rising in Canada. Zombies in PVP? Yes please. And when a player falls in combat, they'll return as one of the undead, bound to fight in Takofanes' name. There will also be werewolves to fight, although what their dark bite does to a player isn't as clear just yet.<br /><br />We really love is how the lore is being tied into the event. Millennium City was built on the smoldering crater where Detroit once stood. For the Blood Moon event, players will have the chance to fight against heroes who fought in the Battle of Detroit and free their souls from Takofanes' evil necromancy. It all ends in a big throw down with Takofanes himself. We'll hear more about the details in the coming weeks. Maybe we'll even get some additional info from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic</a> at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/PAX/">PAX</a> this weekend!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/02/revealed-champions-onlines-first-update-blood-moon/">Revealed: Champions Online's first update, Blood Moon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 02 Sep 2009 09:00:00 EST. I firmly believe persistent online games have a lot more to offer, and every so often that fact rises up to the front of my thoughts by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/14/wrup-lost-in-unknown-space-edition/">games like <span style="font-style: italic;">Resident Evil 5</span></a>. If a cooperative and ostensibly zombie game can exist, then why not a massively version? Let me present to you, the reader, my vision of a game that could quite feasibly exist in just four or five years time:<br /><br />The zombie apocalypse MMO.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/14/the-digital-continuum-zombies-zombies-zombies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Zombies, zombies, zombies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/14/the-digital-continuum-zombies-zombies-zombies/">The Digital Continuum: Zombies, zombies, zombies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 14 Mar 2009 15:00:00 EST. <div align="left"><a href="http://www.soe.com">SOE</a> posted a <a href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_content.vm?id=1892&amp;section=News&amp;locale=en_US">preview of Befallen</a>, one of the classic <a href="http://everquest.station.sony.com"><em>EverQuest</em></a> dungeons that will be reborn in <a href="http://everquest2.station.sony.com"><em>EverQuest II</em></a>'s upcoming <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-shadow-odyssey"><em>The Shadow Odyssey</em></a> expansion. Included are several screenshots of the dungeon along with its background in the game's lore. The aesthetic of the old Befallen seems to be preserved -- and amplified -- in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-ii"><em>EQ2</em></a>'s newer graphics engine.<br /><br />The story goes something like this: a bunch of Knights of Marr built the keep in the Commonlands as a headquarters in their quest to chase off the giants and orcs that terrorized the people in the countryside. Their fortress became their tomb, though, as orcs laid siege to the keep. A warrior named Gynok Moltor came to them to help, but it turned out that he had been cursed. He betrayed the Knights and turned Befallen into the dangerous mass grave that it is today.<br /><br />It's standard fantasy fare. Cool enough, but we're sure most of you just care about the <em>loot</em>.</div>

<a href="http://www.funcom.com">FunCom </a>system designer Jayde has announced the next step in the retooling of some of <em><a href="http://www.ageofconan.com">Age of Conan</a>'s</em> more gimped classes. After <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/new-aoc-patch-brings-important-fixes/">Demonologists got a survivability and damage boost</a>, many players thought Assassins would be the next in line. They still might be - there's no clue to the content of this Thursday's patch - but it's the Necromancers whose future looks intriguing right now.<br /><br />The focus is squarely on pets: the Necromancer looks set to become a true pet class, reminiscent of the Mastermind from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-villains"><em>City of Villains</em></a>. '<em>The balance and progression of the class is being altered to introduce 2 pet points every 5 levels after level 5, resulting in all 8 base pet points being available at level 20 instead of at level 70.' </em>Access to <span style="font-style: italic;">ad hoc </span>bonus pet points is also being improved, with a rework to the Nightfall feat tree. For those unacquainted with the Necromancer, this means they will have a lot more undead at their command throughout their careers than they used to. <a href="http://aoc.wikia.com/wiki/Necromancer"><em>Age of Conan</em> deals with Necromancer pets on a point-based system</a>, allowing players to choose whether they want a lot of weaker pets, a few strong ones, or a mix.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/aoc-necromancers-in-line-for-radical-changes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AoC: Necromancers in line for radical changes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/aoc-necromancers-in-line-for-radical-changes/">AoC: Necromancers in line for radical changes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 10:30:00 EST. It's not exactly clear at this point how this Expansion Set concept is going to work; whether players will have to invest a small amount in a new deck or whether Undead units will simply be part of the boosters, but we imagine we'll start hearing more details as the expansion moves further into development.<br /><br />What is clear is that the concept art for the new faction is pretty freakin' cool, by our estimation. It looks like they're trying to take their Undead in a direction we're not accustomed to seeing in MMOs. The <a href="http://mediaviewer.ign.com/ignMediaPage.jsp?media_id=5438695&amp;object_id=877653&amp;channel_id=227&amp;page_title=SAGA+Peek+%231&amp;adtag=network%3Dign%26size%3D468x60%26channel%3Drpgvault%26site%3Drpgvault_hub%26channel%3Dfeatures%26type%3Dpartner">Necromancer concept drawing</a> gives off a tribal, maybe even Egyptian vibe, where <a href="http://mediaviewer.ign.com/ignMediaPage.jsp?media_id=5438700&amp;object_id=877653&amp;channel_id=227&amp;page_title=SAGA+Peek+%231&amp;adtag=network%3Dign%26size%3D468x60%26channel%3Drpgvault%26site%3Drpgvault_hub%26channel%3Dfeatures%26type%3Dpartner">the Reaper</a> seems to be going for a sort of medieval zombie look. But there's both so much more to this question and so much less that it bears a glance.<br /><br />First of all, where is it written that one <em>must</em> play their own gender? Is anyone asking 'Why don't you play as a human instead of an Orc/Night Elf/Undead/Hottentot?' MMOs (and many videogames in general) have the distinct attribute of genderless play; there is no specific, inherent strength to either sex. Why not take advantage of that?<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/29/so-why-do-you-play-opposite-your-gender/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>So, why DO you play opposite your gender?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/29/so-why-do-you-play-opposite-your-gender/">So, why DO you play opposite your gender?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 29 Nov 2007 11:30:00 EST.
