This week on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-MMO-Report/">The MMO Report</a>, Casey insists that he's a "wise-cracking superhero with a heart of gold," not a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/03/the-mmo-report-eq-was-the-first-mmo-edition/">noob who doesn't know his MMO history</a>. "For the record," he says, "I do realize that <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/EverQuest/">EverQuest</a></em> wasn't the first MMO. I was just saying it was the game that brought MMOs mainstream attention... like how Elvis invented rock 'n' roll."<br />
<br />
Casey reports on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online's</em></a> financial woes, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/RIFT/">RIFT's</a></em> new infinite trial, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic's</a></em> impressive sales numbers, and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/TERA/">TERA's</a></em> beta plans. Then he dips into Uncle Casey's Mailbag to discuss -- what else -- hot dorf-on-dorf action.<br />
<br />
All this and more in the HD MMO Report tucked behind the cut!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/09/the-mmo-report-elvis-invented-rock-n-roll-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The MMO Report: Elvis invented rock 'n' roll edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/09/the-mmo-report-elvis-invented-rock-n-roll-edition/">The MMO Report: Elvis invented rock 'n' roll edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 21:00:00 EST. It seems as if the recent brouhaha over <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq">THQ's</a> future was a bit overblown, as were concerns about the fate of the firm's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online</em></a> MMO. Our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/02/thq-lists-warhammer-mmo-for-fiscal-2014-has-multiple-unannounce/">sister site reports</a> that <em>DMO</em> is on track for "fiscal 2014 and beyond" based on a THQ earnings report released today.<br />
<br />
We consulted our corporate-speak decoder rings and determined that fiscal 2014 translates to April 2013, which puts the launch window slightly behind the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/warhammer-40k-dark-millennium-mmo-coming-march-13-2013/">original target date</a>, according to Joystiq.<br />
<br />
Last month THQ <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/15/rumor-war40k-canceled-thq-readying-itself-for-sale/">debunked a rumor</a> tweeted by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/kevin-dent">Kevin Dent</a> that had the firm canceling its entire 2014 catalog and prepping for a firesale.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/thq-looking-for-help-with-warhammer-40k-mmo-6349698">Gamespot</a>, meanwhile, is reporting that THQ is actively seeking publishing partners for the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/02/thq-still-planning-on-war40k-launch-in-fiscal-2014/">THQ still planning on WAR40K launch in fiscal 2014</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 02 Feb 2012 19:00:00 EST. Why does <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-MMO-Report/">The MMO Report</a> cover <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Minecraft/">Minecraft</a></em>? "Shut up, that's why," says Casey with a smile. In addition to chronicling <em>Minecraft's</em> newest <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/FarmVille/">FarmVille</a></em>-esque update, the Beard meanders through the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Dark-Millennium-Online/">Dark Millennium Online</a></em> cancellation rumors, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-Secret-World/">The Secret World's</a></em> Illuminati trailer, and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/TERA/">TERA's</a></em> upcoming May release date ("your cue to start claiming it's better than <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/World-of-warcraft">WoW</a></em>, internet"). Finally, Casey touches on the patch delays suffered by <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em>, excusing the tardiness by suggesting the promised dates are more like guidelines, and besides, "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."<br />
<br />
All this and a quick dip into Uncle Casey's Mailbag can be found in the full HD video behind the cut.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/19/the-mmo-report-shut-up-thats-why-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The MMO Report: Shut up, that's why edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/19/the-mmo-report-shut-up-thats-why-edition/">The MMO Report: Shut up, that's why edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 19 Jan 2012 20:00:00 EST. It's been a rough couple of years for <em>Warhammer</em> MMORPG fans, and if the rumors are true, it's about to get a bit bleaker.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://kotaku.com/5876253/thq-wipes-out-games-planned-for-2014-to-ready-itself-for-sale-says-insider">Kotaku</a> reports on a tweet by games industry insider <a href="https://twitter.com/TheKevinDent">Kevin Dent</a> that indicates that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ</a> has "canceled its entire 2014 slate of releases to position the company for sale." This would include <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online</em></a>, which Dent referred to as "<a href="https://twitter.com/#!/TheKevinDent/status/158454172239409152">the Games Workshop MMO</a>" on his Twitter page.<br />

We'll keep you posted as we learn more.<br />

While I'm on board the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> train (at least until <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/soe/">SOE's</a> <em>Star Wars: The New Republic</em> comes out in 2014 and forces <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>SWTOR</em></a> to shut down), I can certainly sympathize with the frustration that non-fans are feeling right about now. There are few things more annoying than not being into the latest craze -- or hating it outright -- and yet being unable to escape it.<br />
<br />
So I'm here to say to you today that, like <a href="http://us.battle.net/wow/en/"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>, <em>SWTOR </em>isn't the be-all, end-all of the MMO field. It's a part of it, but just one part, and there are many, many others in the works as we speak. Mama always told me never to put all your eggs in one basket anyway, so I'm spreading my eggcitement across many cyber-nests.<br />
<br />
This is the bone I'm throwing to all of you this week: a list of 10 Midichlorian-free MMOs that have me -- and should have you -- extremely buzzed about their development. In putting together this list, I realized that there are so many promising prospects that I divided them into two groups. Despite being one of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ's</a> biggest projects, the upcoming <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online</em></a> won't be hemmed in with a single subscription option. Instead, the company said that it is investigating a wide range of possible payment options to be as flexible as possible for players all over the world.<br />
<br />
Speaking at a recent earnings call, CEO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/brian-ferrell/">Brian Farrell</a> addressed what model <em>WAR40K </em>would adopt. "What we've done is make the business model within <em>Dark Millennium Online</em> flexible so we can use different business models in different territories and exploit the game on a worldwide basis," he said. "We will have not just one business model, like subscriptions. There will be other monetisation mechanisms in the game... The team there is being very thoughtful about how we maximise monetisation in this game."<br />
<br />
Seeing as how <em>WAR40K </em>is costing the company <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/thq-spending-approximately-50-million-on-war40k-mmo/">over $50 million to create</a>, it seems wise to offer multiple options in order to draw in the largest amount of players possible. The title is being developed by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/vigil-games/">Vigil Games</a> and is slated to release in 2013.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/warhammer-40k-planning-multiple-payment-options/">Warhammer 40K planning multiple payment options</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 08:30:00 EST. Mass conspiracy? Over-eager fans? Or deliberate misinformation? No matter what the case, it turns out that recent information about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online</em></a> was not passed down by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ</a> itself, and these "facts," such as the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/warhammer-40k-dark-millennium-online-launch-date-revealed/">launch date</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/thq-releases-flood-of-new-details-for-warhammer-40k-dark-millen/">class list</a>, should be treated as speculative rumors and nothing more.<br />
<br />
THQ sent a letter to several media outlets clarifying the situation:
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	It has come to THQ's attention that some media are reporting that we've announced game details and a release date for our upcoming massively multiplayer online project, <em>Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online</em>. At this time THQ has not officially announced a release date and any reported features are pure speculation. THQ will announce confirmed game features and an official release date at a later time.</blockquote>
We will keep an eye on this title and the news coming out of THQ as it develops.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/thq-says-war40k-release-date-features-list-is-pure-speculation/">THQ says WAR40K release date, features list is 'pure speculation'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 22:30:00 EST. If you've been waiting for the upcoming Warhammer 40k MMO <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/">Dark Millennium Online</a></em>, you may have checked out recent single-player title <em><a href="http://www.spacemarine.com/">Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine</a></em>. In <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/article/70606/space-marine-sequel-dark-millennium-online-creative-overlap">an interview on the two games with Shacknews last night</a>, THQ's VP of Core Games <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/danny-bilson">Danny Bilson</a> described a potential conflict of interest between the upcoming MMO and any potential Space Marine sequel. When asked whether the single-player title deserved a sequel, Bilson described an interesting creative overlap between the game and its upcoming MMO counterpart.<br />
<br />
Revealing that the MMO would contain more action-based gameplay than the MMO norm, Bilson painted a picture of <em>Dark Millennium Online</em> as an online spiritual successor to <em>Space Marine</em> but with the other 40k factions similarly explored. "It may be that the next iteration of <em>Space Marine</em> is a much bigger universe, where if you love Space Marines you can play that way," he told Shacknews, adding that "there was a creative overlap going on with <em>Dark Millennium Online</em>'s development" and "there's not room in the world for that overlap."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/dark-millennium-online-has-conflict-of-interest-with-potential-s/">Dark Millennium Online has conflict of interest with potential Space Marine sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 19:30:00 EST. If you're a fan of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online</em></a>, you are likely pretty happy to have a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/warhammer-40k-dark-millennium-online-launch-date-revealed/">launch date</a>. You're also probably anxious for details about the game itself, which have been in short supply until now.<br />
<br />
We've got good news for you though: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq">THQ</a> has released a huge list of data on design, gameplay, classes and races, and much more. The information ranges from all-encompassing, such as talk of art style and who is involved in development, to very specific, such as a party size of five, raid size of 50, and level cap of 60.<br />
<br />
There's plenty more for eager fans: dual-wielding pistols and melee weapons (including chain swords), classes with three specialties, a crashed space hulk ripe for exploration, and much more. Strategy Informer has the complete summary, so head over there for your full <em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online</em> fix!<br />

While <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2011/">last week's E3</a> is still fresh in our minds and hearts, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ</a> is giving us a great reason to look forward to next year's expo: the chance to get our hands on <em><a href="http://www.darkmillenniumonline.com/">Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online</a>.</em><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-16-warhammer-40k-mmo-playable-next-year">Eurogamer reports</a> that THQ is committing to this time frame. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Danny-Bilson/">Danny Bilson</a> says that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>WAR40K</em></a> will be the highlight of the company's display: <em>"Next year, I promise you, next E3. I've already got plans for what the booth is like. The centrepiece of the booth will be that MMO."</em><br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/e3-2011-new-dark-millennium-online-teaser-sighted-in-the-wild/">We caught only a glimpse of a teaser trailer</a> for the game at this year's E3. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/vigil-games/">Vigil Games</a> is hard at work on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/thq-spending-approximately-50-million-on-war40k-mmo/">the $50+ million project</a>, and Bilson says that it's looking good and on track for a launch between April 2012 and March 2013.<br />
<br />
<em>"It looks fabulous. I like it. I can't speak to it now, or people will kill me. But, I'll tell you what, it plays differently. A little bit... This thing is gonna be special,"</em> he said. <em>"We're going to come out when we come out in a big way. I feel like we're fully competitive with the other guys. It'll be seven years in the making when it comes out. We're competing with the best games in the world. You can't mess around with this thing." </em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/dark-millennium-online-to-be-playable-at-e3-2012/">Dark Millennium Online to be playable at E3 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 16 Jun 2011 09:00:00 EST. If you're wondering how many users it's going to take for <a href="http://thq.com">THQ's</a> forthcoming <a href="http://www.darkmillenniumonline.com/"><em>Warhammer 40K</em></a>-based sci-fi MMORPG to be successful, you can keep wondering. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq">THQ</a> executive vice president and chief financial officer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/paul-pucino">Paul Pucino</a> did speak briefly about the budget of <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/">Dark Millennium Online</a></em>, however, while addressing a Wedbush Morgan conference on March 9th. Pucino said the title will cost "<em>somewhere in the area of $50 million or so to get these games to market, certainly in that range for </em>Dark Millennium."<br />
<br />
Pucino was asked about desired subscriber numbers for <em>WAR40K</em>, which is being developed by <a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/">Vigil Games</a>, but declined to offer any details. "<em>We haven't gotten specific yet, we're a couple of years away here from release and certainly as we get closer we'll give some specifics with regards to break-even or target users</em>," he said.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/thq-spending-approximately-50-million-on-war40k-mmo/">THQ spending approximately $50 million on WAR40K MMO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 10 Mar 2011 11:00:00 EST. Bad puns, sexual innuendo and all the MMO news you can handle are crammed into <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/videos/51202/The-MMO-Report-Thursday-February-10th/">yet another MMO Report</a>, brought to us by our friends at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/G4TV/">G4TV</a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/casey-schreiner/">Casey Schreiner</a> and his fabulous tie recall a few of the biggest stories from the previous week.<br />
<br />
First up on the docket is the cancellation of two <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ</a> titles previously in development: <a href="http://www.companyofheroes.com/"><em>Company of Heroes Online</em></a> and <a href="http://community.smackdownvsraw.com/"><em>WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Online</em></a>. Both of these games were an attempt by the studio to bring its western-style MMOs to a Korean market, although THQ ultimately decided that this move wasn't at the top of its priority list.<br />
<br />
On a more upbeat note, Casey talks up <a href="http://universe.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx"><em>LEGO Universe's</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/08/lego-universe-releases-crux-prime/">Crux Prime update</a>, which came complete with ninjas and multiplayer madness. And yes, Casey, we agree that LEGOs are "awesome." <br />
<br />
Other topics for the Report include <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/undead-labs/">Undead Labs'</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/undead-labs-reveals-first-release-title-and-its-not-the-zombie/">"Class 3" single-player XBLA title</a> that's hopefully leading up to the studio's zombie MMO, robo-Batman <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/08/dc-universe-online-releases-a-cinematic-of-the-future-and-the/">in a new <em>DCUO</em> video</a>, the announcement of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/07/blizzcon-2011-dates-announced/">BlizzCon's 2011 dates</a>, and a Blizzard theme park called "Joy Land" in China. Face it: We have a weird hobby.<br />

It looks like March 2013 is the latest expected delivery date for <a href="http://thq.com">THQ's</a> <a href="http://www.darkmillenniumonline.com/"><em>Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online</em></a> MMORPG. <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/03/thq-says-40k-mmo-due-by-march-31-2013/">Rock, Paper Shotgun</a> reports that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq">THQ</a> <a href="http://investor.thq.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=96376&amp;p=irol-IRHome">told its investors</a> the sci-fi opus should see the light of day in the fiscal year 2013, a period stretching from April 2012 to March 2013.<br />

While news of the far-future setting has excited some fans, others are put off by rumors that the extensive faction roster from the source material is being distilled to a more MMO-palatable pair of <a href="http://war40k.zam.com/story.html?story=23215">opposing organizations</a>. However it turns out, we'll have to wait quite a while it seems and content ourselves with the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/06/war40k-throws-down-the-gauntlet-to-the-competition/">slow</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/27/thq-reveals-the-dark-engine-powering-warhammer-40k/">trickle</a> of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k"><em>WAR40K</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/new-war40k-trailer-introduces-first-playable-race/">news</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/thq-says-war40k-mmo-due-by-march-2013/">THQ says WAR40K MMO due by March 2013</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 03 Feb 2011 11:00:00 EST. <br />
"<em>After centuries of exile, the Imperium of Man has returned to the Sargos sector</em>," begins the trailer video. The planet Sanctum is the stronghold for man, and the humans are holding it against a host of enemies eager to take it back. <br />
<br />
As always, while it's fun to hear all about a new playable race, it's even better to see it. With that in mind, the developers have put together a lineup of detailed new screenshots and a trailer video to introduce the race to players. Follow along after the jump to check them out!<br />

Danny Bilson, core games vice president at <a href="http://www.thq.com/territory.php">THQ</a>, is rather excited by the prospects of <a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/home"><em>Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online</em></a>. In an interview at <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=254087">CVG</a>, the executive talks about both the potential of the underlying intellectual property as well as the game itself. The title, currently in development at <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;ved=0CBYQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vigilgames.com%2F&amp;ei=3JwsTKjqOsSBlAfKuei8Cg&amp;usg=AFQjCNFYgGcPHKFaSsJzWKKQjhAvXhFkMA">Vigil Games</a> and fresh off a crowd-pleasing <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/trailer-revealed-for-warhammer-40k-dark-millenium-online/">E3</a> trailer reveal, looks to appeal to a broad base of MMORPG games, starting with <a href="http://www.blizzard.com">Blizzard</a> fans.<br />

In addition to aiming for the current market-share top dog, Bilson lets on that <em>WAR40K</em> is looking for approximately a million players in order to be successful. <em><span class="text_article_body">"They've got 14 million players! Let's face it: At E3, every studio, game and gadget struggles to be the talk of the show, but there's just so much going on that most exhibits and demos get lost in the noise. Therefore, when buzz erupts to eclipse the noise, it behooves the gamer to sit up and take notice. <a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/home"><em>Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online</em></a> is buzzing strong right now, like thousands of armored, heretic-hunting space bees, especially after <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/trailer-revealed-for-warhammer-40k-dark-millenium-online/">revealing the trailer earlier this week</a>. With the previously secretive MMO out in the open, fans are hungry for any and all details about this entry in the beloved 40k franchise.<br />
<br />
Fortunately, Massively made fast friends with Vigil's Mark Downie, who was more than happy to spill the space beans about the look of the game, faithfulness to the IP and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/warhammer-40k-dark-millennium-online/"><em>Warhammer 40k's</em></a> release window. Buckle up, engage thrusters and hit the jump for the full conversation.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/e3-2010-interview-with-warhammer-40ks-mark-downie/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2010: Interview with Warhammer 40K's Mark Downie</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/e3-2010-interview-with-warhammer-40ks-mark-downie/">E3 2010: Interview with Warhammer 40K's Mark Downie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 19:30:00 EST. THQ and Vigil Games promised to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/04/warhammer-40k-mmo-to-be-fully-revealed-this-summer/">"fully reveal" the Warhammer 40k MMO at E3</a>, and they're standing by that promise. Our first peek at this revelation comes in the form of a brand new trailer, as well as the game's title.<br />
<br />
<span style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/pc_games/Trailer_revealed_for_Warhammer_40k_Dark_Millennium_Online'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> The trailer for <a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/home"><em>Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online</em></a> gives us the backstory: demons, aliens and heretics versus man. We get our first look at gameplay as well as the trailer pans through several different battlegrounds. <br />
<br />
The trailer comes at the same time as a site redesign for <a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/home">Vigil Games</a>, which brings a heavy focus on this highly anticipated game. Follow along after the jump to see the trailer, and keep an eye out for Massively's exclusive interview with THQ and hands-on demo of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online</em></a>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/trailer-revealed-for-warhammer-40k-dark-millenium-online/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Trailer revealed for Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/trailer-revealed-for-warhammer-40k-dark-millenium-online/">Trailer revealed for Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 13:37:00 EST. "<a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml"><em>WoW</em></a>-killer" is a cliched term these days, and many MMO fans continue to keep a weather eye out for the game that will take down the juggernaut of the gaming world.<br />
<br />
No thanks, say the developers behind <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40k</em></a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/brian-farrell">Brian Farrell</a> is the CEO and President of <a href="http://www.thq.com/territory.php">THQ</a>, the company behind <em>Warhammer 40k</em>, and he has no desire to go after that title. <em>"What we love about the </em>Warhammer 40K<em> MMO is that it's different in that it's a sci-fi, futuristic-based world. We're not competing directly in the orcs and elves fantasy environment that </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft">World of Warcraft</a><em> is in. We can differentiate ourselves." </em><br />
<br />
Farrell feels that there is plenty of room for more than one great title, particularly since the game is a completely different type of MMO. In addition to addressing the <em>WoW</em> question, Farrell also offered up some interesting information regarding the pricing structure for <em>Warhammer 40k</em>, indicating that it will vary depending on what part of the world you are playing in. <br />
<br />
<em>Warhammer40k</em> will be revealed fully at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/04/warhammer-40k-mmo-to-be-fully-revealed-this-summer/">E3 this June</a>, but for now you can take a look at more of what Farrell had to say recently <a href="http://pc.ign.com/articles/107/1071607p1.html">over at IGN</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/03/warhammer-40k-devs-on-unusual-pricing-structure-and-wow-killing/">Warhammer 40k devs on unusual pricing structure and WoW-killing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 03 Mar 2010 16:00:00 EST. Have you been looking forward to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k"><em>Warhammer 40K</em></a> MMO for what feels like forever? The people at <a href="http://us.thq.com/us">THQ</a> have been offering up small pieces of information since they announced the game a few years ago -- last April we finally <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/warhammer-40k-mmo-gets-a-release-date/">got a release year</a> of 2012, and just in December we were given some <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/02/an-early-look-at-the-warhammer-40k-mmo/">beautiful concept art</a>.<br />
<br />
Now we've been given even better news. THQ plans to "fully unveil" <em>Warhammer 40K</em> this summer at E3. The <a href="http://www.e3expo.com/">Electronic Entertainment Expo</a> will be at the Los Angeles Convention Center this year, from June 15th-17th, and if you were thinking of attending, this is a very good reason to hop off the fence.<br />
<br />
THQ has kept the game largely under wraps for now, but the developers are pretty excited. Team member <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/joe-madureira">Joe Madureira</a> promises large scale combat, tons of customization, and great-looking characters.<br />
<br />
June suddenly seems a lot farther away, but we'll keep a close eye out for more news on the game until then!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/04/warhammer-40k-mmo-to-be-fully-revealed-this-summer/">Warhammer 40k MMO to be fully revealed this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 04 Feb 2010 10:30:00 EST. Ahhh, the stock market: The yo-yo that makes people jump for joy or jump off twenty-story buildings. Playing it can be just as exhilarating, frightening, and expensive as a high-octane weekend bender in <a href="http://freerealms.com"><em>Free Realms</em></a>. Well, almost... With the quote-unquote <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/01/29/economic.crisis.explainer/index.html">Global Economic Crisis</a> we've been going through, almost all stocks are down from a year ago. Does that mean that now is a good time to invest? It probably depends on whether or not you believe the market has hit the bottom yet.<br /><br />Word on the street is that the video game industry <a href="http://www.economist.com/businessfinance/displayStory.cfm?story_id=12815694">is recession-proof</a> (<em><a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1433749/video-games-recession-proof">or not</a></em>). When you're pinching pennies, MMOs in particular are one of the cheapest forms of entertainment and escapism money can buy. We're not here to offer advice one way or the other, but we are curious -- do you play the MMO stock market? We did a bit of digging and found a number of stocks from companies producing MMOs:<br /><br />
<ul>
    <li><strong>Activision Blizzard</strong> (<a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/atvi">ATVI</a>) - <a href="http://worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>, new secret project</li>

    <li><strong>Electronic Arts</strong> (<a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/erts">ERTS</a>) - <a href="http://warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>, <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>, etc.<br /></li>
    <li><strong>Funcom</strong> (<a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/funcom?countryCode=no">NO:FUNCOM</a>) - <a href="http://ageofconan.com">Age of Conan</a>, <a href="http://www.darkdaysarecoming.com/"><em>The Secret World</em></a>, etc.</li>
    <li><strong>NCsoft</strong> (<a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/ncscf">OTC:NCSCF</a>) - <a href="http://guildwars.com"><em>Guild Wars</em></a>, <a href="http://aiononline.com"><em>Aion</em></a>, etc.<br /> </li>
    <li><strong>Sony Corporation</strong> (<a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/sne">SNE</a>) - <a href="http://freerealms.com">Free Realms</a>, <a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com"><em>DC Universe</em> <em>Online</em></a>, etc.</li>
    <li><strong>THQ Inc.</strong> (<a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/thqi">THQI</a>) - <a href="http://dragonica.thqice.com"><em>Dragonica Online</em></a>, <em><a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/games_40k.php">Warhammer 40k</a>,</em> etc.<br /></li>
</ul>
Based on that list, who do you think is the best investment and why?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/the-daily-grind-do-you-play-the-mmo-stock-market/">The Daily Grind: Do you play the MMO stock market?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 08:00:00 EST. Continuing the somewhat recurring theme at E3 2009 of "what was old is new again," <a href="http://dragonica.thqice.com/web/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Dragonica Online</span></a> has taken the traditional 2D side-scroller format and transitioned it to 3D. The resulting environment will be friendly to any of the Night Elves you see endlessly bouncing around <a href="http://worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> and fans of nostalgic action RPGs like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_of_Mana"><span style="font-style: italic;">Secret of Mana</span></a>.<br /><br />The game sports fast and furious real-time combat, crafting, guilds, dungeon raids, PvP, and a light-hearted atmosphere. It didn't take us long to realize that <span style="font-style: italic;">Dragonica</span> doesn't take itself too seriously. For example, in the demo, we saw an archer battling shark pirates who were wielding swordfish. We're obviously not in Middle Earth here.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/e3-2009-dragonica-online-impressions/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2009: Dragonica Online impressions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/e3-2009-dragonica-online-impressions/">E3 2009: Dragonica Online impressions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 05 Jun 2009 14:00:00 EST. Vogster and THQ have taken a somewhat surprising step towards distribution of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/crimecraft"><em>CrimeCraft</em></a> in North America; the title will be sold exclusively at Best Buy, either in-store or online. <br /><br />The exclusivity of this deal <em>may</em> bring some perks to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/crimecraft"><em>CrimeCraft</em></a> players. The official release states: <em>"Consumers who purchase CrimeCraft at Best Buy will receive two months of free play time and a number of exclusive in-game items, including two in-game t-shirts from acclaimed real-world fashion labels and a combat backpack for their avatar. Gamers will also receive a virtual Best Buy discount card that allows them to purchase in-game items at a reduced cost. Those gamers pre-ordering CrimeCraft via Best Buy retail stores or online at <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com">www.bestbuy.com</a>, will additionally receive virtual in-game shoes from Ecko Unltd., created by fashion icon Marc Ecko, access to play the pre-release version of the game during beta, and three days' head start at the game's launch."</em><br /><br />Pre-orders begin on May 31st (online) or on June 7th (in stores). <em>CrimeCraft</em> is still <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/21/crimecraft-launch-date-set-for-august-25/">slated for an August 25th launch</a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/crimecraft-1/">CrimeCraft</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/crimecraft-1/#1460813"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/crimecraft_144-sms-0309_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/crimecraft-1/#1460809"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/crimecraft_130-sms-0309_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/crimecraft-1/#1460807"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/crimecraft_116-sms-0309_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/crimecraft-1/#1460806"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/crimecraft_111-sms-0309_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/crimecraft-1/#1460804"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/crimecraft_077-sms-0309_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/crimecraft-to-be-sold-exclusively-for-north-america-at-best-buy/">CrimeCraft to be sold exclusively for North America at Best Buy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 29 May 2009 09:00:00 EST. The game is an English adaptation of a fairly new Chinese MMO called <em>Dream Dragon</em>, and features 3D side-scrolling combat in a free-to-play format. Embedded above is an old video we found on Youtube that will give you an idea of how it works -- comparisons to <a href="http://maplestory.nexon.net/"><em>MapleStory</em></a> are inevitable. <br /><br />The game's publishers THQ*ICE have sent along some screenshots of a few of the bosses you'll find in-game, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dragonica-online-gallery/">we've put them in a new gallery</a> for you to check out. The main thing to point out here is that a boss wolf, for example, doesn't just look like a slightly-different-colored regular wolf, which is always nice to see. If it's starting to look like your kind of game, make sure to visit <a href="http://dragonica.thqice.com/web/">THQ*ICE's official <em>Dragonica Online</em> site</a> and register an account, as there's a preview beta test coming very soon.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dragonica-online-gallery/">Dragonica Online gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dragonica-online-gallery/#2009428"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/05/wolf-attack_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Regular wolves" title="Regular wolves" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dragonica-online-gallery/#2009429"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/05/wolf-boss_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Boss wolf" title="Boss wolf" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dragonica-online-gallery/#2009425"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/05/raccoon_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Regular raccoon" title="Regular raccoon" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dragonica-online-gallery/#2009424"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/05/raccoon-plumber_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Raccoon Plumber boss" title="Raccoon Plumber boss" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dragonica-online-gallery/#2009422"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/05/lavalon2_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Boss: Lavalon" title="Boss: Lavalon" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/dragonica-online-screens-show-off-boss-battles/">Dragonica Online screens show off boss battles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 12 May 2009 15:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.thq-games.com/uk">THQ</a> just <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57994">unveiled some release dates for their major game titles</a> over the next few years and if you were getting excited for the <a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/games_40k.php"><em>Warhammer 40k</em></a> MMO, you might feel a bit deflated after reading this. The above slide shows that <em>WH40K</em> is slated for a 2012 expected release date, which of course is subject to change.<br /><br />We haven't heard much from <a href="http://www.vigilgames.com/">Vigil Games</a> since May 2008 about this title, but <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/04/pc-gamers-warhammer-40k-interview/">what we know sounds promising</a> so far. The MMO's creative director is none other than comic book artist extraordinaire, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Madureira">Joe Madureira</a> (side bar: my favorite artist of all time). Vigil hopes to stay <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/warhammer-40k-mmo-info-update/">as true to the tabletop experience as they can</a> while still remaining an MMORPG. Finally, the world's primary weapons will be guns and vehicles may play a large part in combat.<br /><br />While many fans of the <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/">Games Workshop</a> miniatures game have found a familiar home in <a href="http://warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>, many others have complained that <a href="http://mythicentertainment.com">Mythic</a>'s incarnation of the <em>Warhammer</em> setting is not harsh, gritty, or dark enough. It will be interesting to see if <a href="http://massively.com/tag/warhammer-40k"><em>WH40k</em></a> can capture this or if Vigil will opt for a less mature environment (and rating).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/warhammer-40k-mmo-gets-a-release-date/">Warhammer 40K MMO gets a release date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 03 Apr 2009 10:00:00 EST. Since its launch in 2001, <a href="http://www.jagex.com/">Jagex</a>'s <a href="http://www.runescape.com"><em>RuneScape</em></a> has steadily established a solid presence in the highly-competitive MMO market. Now into the millions of players across the world, the game is said to currently be at its highest surge in popularity. Building from that comes the news that Jagex has just appointed former <a href="http://www.thq.com/territory.php">THQ</a> exec Vince Farquharson to head up their flagship fantasy MMO.<br /><br />Farquharson' role at THQ included Creative Director and Development Director for three years, overseeing titles such as <a href="http://squadcommandgame.com/"><em>Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command</em></a> and <a href="http://www.broken-sword.com/"><em>Broken Sword: The Angel of Death</em></a>. He will focus on expanding <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/runescape/">RuneScape</a></em> through content development and global distribution. This news comes <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=15968">almost exactly one year to the day</a> after Jagex acquired former European PayPal CEO Geoff Iddison as their own CEO. We wish Farquharson and the rest of the folks at Jagex the best of luck with their future growth.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/runescape-acquires-former-thq-creative-director/">RuneScape acquires former THQ Creative Director</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 22 Oct 2008 18:00:00 EST. This MMO will play more like an RPG than an FPS, even though there will be extensive gunplay elements, such as flanking, suppressive fire, and cover. <br /><br />Additionally, fans of the franchise will be happy to know that their favorite race, no matter what that might be, will find a home in-game. <span class="text_article_body"> "All of the races important to <em>Warhammer 40,000</em> lore (not to mention the fans) will be represented", says creative director <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Madureira">Joe Madureira</a>, formerly of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_comics">Marvel Comics</a>. He adds that there will be "Tons of stuff hanging off your character, weapons, scrolls ... we are going to have the coolest looking characters of any MMO, ever. But given that it sounds as though <a href="http://www.thq.com/search/">THQ</a>'s taking their time in developing this game, it could very well be true. Apparently THQ executive Jack Sorenson is pretty sure that <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft">World of Warcraft</a></em> has hit its peak. He goes on to admit that there will likely still be millions of people playing <em>WoW</em> in a couple of years, but says that its subscriber count will have diminished. This would supposedly be the perfect time to launch a brand new game. Why? About two years from now is of course when THQ is looking to launch their <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/update-on-the-warhammer-40k-mmo/">Warhammer 40k MMO</a>, however as anyone who follows MMO development can tell you, the market can change rather rapidly.<br /><br /><em>WoW</em> may be severely less of a threat in a couple of years time, but there are plenty of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/five-reasons-were-excited-for-age-of-conan/719373/">other MMOs</a> that could <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/05/what-warhammer-online-will-always-be-rememberd-for/">take its place</a> between now and two years out -- including <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/ask-massively-old-games-blizzards-next-mmo-and-bugs/">Blizzard's next MMO</a>. So while <em>WoW</em> may have hit its peak, in a couple of years time THQ could find themselves staring down the barrel of yet another juggernaut title: current or upcoming.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/thq-thinks-wow-has-probably-peaked/">THQ thinks WoW has probably peaked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 08 Apr 2008 17:00:00 EST. You may recall the game as one of our <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/08/top-10-mia-mmos-of-2007-part-1/">Top Ten MIA MMOs from 2007</a>. So where is this THQ-licensed, <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12947"><em>Dawn of War</em>-inspired</a> title nowadays?<br /><br />THQ president Brian Farrell notes that he just recently saw the game at the Austin studio in November. He was "pleasantly surprised" by its progress, but also noted that the game was "still very early". Despite that, it sounds as though the folks at THQ are ready to take the time to do this right. So, while we shouldn't expect the game out any time soon, the developers are definitely being given the time they need to do right by this license.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/update-on-the-warhammer-40k-mmo/">Update on the Warhammer 40k MMO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 10:00:00 EST. In the waning weeks of December, we've already started turning our eyes towards the new year. 2008 is already showing a great deal of promise for the MMO community, with the impending release of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/pirates-of-the-burning-sea">Pirates of the Burning Sea</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king"><em>Wrath of the Lich King</em></a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>Age of Conan</em></a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning</em></a>. Though most of these titles are still a good ways away from hitting retailer shelves, we've already got a pretty good idea of what's in store, not just in terms of assets and information that's already been released, but also from hands-on impressions and beta testing. In other words, as excited as we are, there probably won't be terribly many surprises as it concerns these titles. They're practically a given.<br /><br />As luck would have it, those aren't the only titles we'll be drooling over next year - this much we know. There are a number of games in development out there that have shown up on our collective radar screens over the past few months, but only as tiny blips. For the most part, they still represent riddles wrapped up in mysteries with a side of question mark. We've assembled a list of the top 10 MIA MMOs - those mysterious games that represent the future of the MMO... if only we knew what they were.<br /><br />In the first part of this feature, we'll take a look at the first half of the list.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/08/top-10-mia-mmos-of-2007-part-1/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Top 10 MIA MMOs of 2007 - part 1</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/08/top-10-mia-mmos-of-2007-part-1/">Top 10 MIA MMOs of 2007 - part 1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 08 Dec 2007 16:59:00 EST.
