If you want to craft items in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-Repopulation/">The Repopulation</a>, you're not going to go down to the science fiction equivalent of Ikea and buy the Martin Plasma Rifle. You're going to get out into the wild and get the resources you need. There are two systems for gathering items in <em>The Repopulation</em>, and the newest development blog for the game discusses one of the ways to grab those resources: <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php/news/103-resource-extraction">Extraction</a>, also known as "digging useful components out of corpses."<br />
<br />
Since the game doesn't feature levels, there's a more organic system to gathering these resources. Players first decide how difficult the extraction should be, with higher difficulties resulting in higher-grade resources. More difficult extractions take longer, however, and as a result, players have a higher chance to fail unless they've practiced harvesting a particular species. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation's</em></a> end-of-the-month progress report is here, and judging by the sheer length of the thing, April was <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php/news/102-end-of-april-2013-update">one for the books</a>. The new update takes a high-level view of development and it states that since the majority of <em>The Repopulation's</em> features are complete, the dev team is now focusing on content creation and an enjoyable new player experience.<br />
<br />
Highlights from April's patch cycle include the new harvester system, player turrets, AI tweaks, stampedes, and gore options. Of course, that's just the tip of the iceberg, so be sure and read the full post for all the details.<br />

The folks at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Above-and-Beyond-Technologies/">Above and Beyond Technologies</a> are done playing jokes on you for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/04/01/april-fools-day-around-the-virtual-world/">April Fools' Day</a> and are ready to show off their for-real content update for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-Repopulation/">The Repopulation</a></em>.<br />
<br />
Coming off of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/03/25/pax-east-2013-hands-on-with-the-repopulation/">player feedback at PAX East</a>, the studio aims to increase its tester base and improve communication with all alpha testers. This will help the team achieve their beta window later this spring and shoot for a better playable demo at PAX Prime in August.<br />

Some might be annoyed with the constant misdirection, but we find that it brings out a lot of creativity and humor in an industry that often needs more of both.<br />

You probably saw <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2"><em>Guild Wars 2's</em></a> incredible (and playable) <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/03/31/your-guide-to-guild-wars-2s-super-adventure-box/">Super Adventure Box</a>, but that's not the end of the pranks that went around in the virtual world. There are <a href="http://www.ddo.com/ddostorenew">strange new offerings in <em>DDO's</em> store</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-repopulation/"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> has <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php/news/99-april-1st-patch-notes">an insane list of patch notes</a>, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/news/news-article/20130401"><em>SWTOR</em> announced dance combat</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/puzzle-pirates/"><em>Puzzle Pirates</em></a> is allowing players to sail... <a href="http://blog.puzzlepirates.com/spyglass/entry/codename_b_a_r_r">a barrel</a>. Earlier this week <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation's</em></a> dev team released a combat-focused trailer on the eve of its trip to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-east-2013">PAX East</a>. Today, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies">Above &amp; Beyond Technologies</a> has another clip to share, this one a 21-minute dive into the game's crafting mechanics.<br />

Lead dev <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/joshua-halls">Joshua Halls</a> walks us through crafting events, resource attributes and refinement, and shows off the general complexity of the tradeskill mechanics. The team behind <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> has been releasing extensive monthly updates for a while now, but it's been some time since we've seen any <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation,video">video footage</a> of the sci-fi sandbox. That drought is officially over thanks to a two-minute teaser designed to drum up interest in the game as the devs head to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-east-2013">PAX East 2013</a>.<br />

The clip shows everything from combat vignettes to the UI in action to furniture placement inside of <em>The Repopulation's</em> player-made structures. A recent comment made in regard to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/crafting/">crafting</a> in an upcoming game gave me pause. It went something like this: <em>If the gameplay fails, the crafting system won't matter</em>. My first thought was that this person must have accidentally tripped over his tongue and mistakenly substituted words, meaning to insert pwnzer PvP or some such instead of gameplay. Why? Because we all understand that as a part of playing the game, crafting is inherently gameplay.<br />
<br />
But then another explanation for this wildly inaccurate statement came to me; perhaps the speaker had actually never seen -- let alone experienced -- real, meaningful crafting in a game! After all, there has been a serious dearth of deep, involved crafting systems where skill and dedication are valued for quite some time in MMOs. Crafting, if it exists at all, is often relegated to some mechanic that can be slept through that results in uniform, standardized products. It's no wonder that some folks might not realize that crafting is gameplay.<br />

But change is a-comin'! Some upcoming games are returning to the idea that robust crafting systems are a deep and engaging part of games. Two titles, <em><a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/">The Repopulation</a></em> and <em><a href="https://goblinworks.com/">Pathfinder Online</a></em>, seem to have really hit the nail on the head when it comes to developing sophisticated crafting systems that have purpose and meaning. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> dev team is gearing up for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-east-2013">PAX East</a>, but that didn't stop it from doing a bunch of work on its sci-fi sandbox MMO in February. The latest <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php/news/96-end-of-february-2013-update">monthly update post</a> features a laundry list of improvements and tweaks ranging from combat, crafting, and AI tweaks to to UI, audio, and itemization enhancements.<br />
<br />
Combat effects were emphasized in February, with particular attention paid to the game's action mode. "You can now hold your mouse button to continuously fire. You also now receive bullet splashes based on what you connected with," the team explains. "Firing into dirt will give a splash of dirt, while firing at something metal will spark. See that flowchart up there? That's a recipe visualization of a single crafted item in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>. The dodge fitting that it represents is one of the most complex items in the upcoming sci-fi sandbox, and while not all of the game's craftables are equally complex, the fitting serves to illustrate that the devs are serious about a meaty crafting system and a heavily player-driven economy.<br />
<br />
In addition to gathering the necessary materials and producing all of the sub-components, crafters will also need to take into account the potential quality of the final dodge fitting, which is affected by recipe mastery, resource quality, sub-component quality, skill level, and luck.<br />

When preparing to set out in a new world, it's not a bad idea to have at least some idea of what you will run into. To give players a peek at some of the wildlife in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>, seven new creatures have been added to the game's bestiary. Here, players get to learn a bit about the six-legged hokfig, a large, slow herd animal with a hornlike plate on its back, and the nacoot, a small lizard with chameleon-like properties that ambushes its prey.<br />
<br />
Other creatures include the brachura with their massive spiked claws, the cliff-scaling okolat, the annoying little birdlike t'seef, and the aptly named scavenger. But animal wildlife is not all players will encounter when venturing out of the safety of civilization: The sentient lesoo are not only intelligent, but are stronger and larger than the humans. Sandbox aficionados are known to reminisce about the "good old days." You know, that time long lost in the past when the greats of open-world play like <a href="http://uo.com/"><em>Ultima Online</em></a> and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies">Star Wars Galaxies</a></em> (pre-NGE of course) enjoyed their heyday. Many a lamentation has also been heard about how things have never been the same, or how nothing has filled that void.<br />

In 2012 we started the year off with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/06/some-assembly-required-a-virtual-world-round-up/">a guide to games sporting sandbox features</a> to scratch a variety of virtual world itches and we ended with a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/12/21/some-assembly-required-six-reasons-to-love-sandboxes-in-2013/">look at some promising upcoming titles</a> for 2013. With plenty of choices abounding, why are sandbox fans still decrying the lack of a home? It could be because they want one home for everyone to settle in together, basically one game to rule them all. But how realistic is that?<br />

Even with the plethora of offerings now, many folks want to play <em>their</em> ideal sandbox, and everyone has their own idea of what <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/18/some-assembly-required-the-ultimate-mmorpg/">the perfect one</a> would be (and conversely, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/30/some-assembly-required-how-to-screw-up-your-sandbox/">what would kill it</a>). Perhaps the answer, then, is to forget about a single universal home that accommodates the masses and actually create a number of niche games where people find exactly what they are looking for. It's a new month, which means it must be time for a new <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=295:end-of-january-2013-update&amp;catid=61:new-frontpage-news&amp;Itemid=428">end-of-the-previous-month</a> update from the team behind <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>. January saw quite a few changes made to the sci-fi sandbox, including a new GUI, a military perks system, new mission types, a stealth revamp, and more.<br />

MMO player housing usually comes in one of two varieties: instanced or open-world. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>, on the other hand, will feature both as well as a third option tied to player-owned cities.<br />
<br />
The instanced housing will be available to everyone, though players of different factions will be restricted to different housing neighborhoods. Open-world housing will be limited, of course, but players will also be able to buy and sell the plots. Player city housing will feature a similar plot system that is administered by the owner of the city in question.<br />

The dev team recently augmented the sci-fi sandbox's tradeskill mechanics with a new attribute system, so now is as good a time as any to get familiar with how the whole thing works.<br />
<br />
There are no levels in <em>The Repopulation</em>, and as such there are no artificial restrictions handcuffing your capabilities as a crafter. There are over 70 independent skills, though, and some of them are devoted to crafting items, fittings, vehicles, stems, and more. The new attribute system basically allows for more flexibility in the game's fitting system. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/kickstarter/">Kickstarter</a> is perhaps the biggest story in the world of gaming since the birth of the home video console or the integration of online components into consumer entertainment. No new product, innovation, or invention has carried with it such immense potential for shifting the way the industry plans, builds, and delivers its products. And with projects covering everything from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ouya">hardware</a> to companion apps, it's almost impossible now to imagine a gaming world without Kickstarter, even though it was our reality just a few short months ago.<br />
<br />
The legacy of Kickstarter is one that we're witnessing in real-time. Most of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/star-citizen/">major successful projects</a> are slated for late 2013/early 2014 releases, giving us plenty of time to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/11/29/the-think-tank-is-kickstarter-a-fad-or-the-new-standard/">speculate</a> on what may or may not go wrong with the crowd-funding model and the products it bears. Over the next year, games will either make it to market or they won't. Developers will squander their budgets or release on time. It's all <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08/21/the-soapbox-the-trouble-with-kickstarter/">up in the air</a>.<br />

With that in mind, we thought now would be a good time to look back on some of the biggest MMO Kickstarter projects of 2012. Last year was a big one for indie sci-fi sandbox <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>. Between alpha testing, a successful Kickstarter campaign, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/10/gdc-2012-the-repopulation-demonstrates-world-building-elements/">a GDC reveal</a>, and a couple of engine updates, the game made plenty of progress in 2012.<br />
<br />
This year more players will get a chance to see that progress for themselves, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies">Above &amp; Beyond Technologies</a> will kick off <em>The Repopulation's</em> closed beta sometime in the spring. The team also plans to release more game information to the press as well as put in an appearance at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-prime-2013">PAX Prime</a> over the Labor Day weekend. So <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/12/31/leaderboard-age-of-wushu-vs-archeage-vs-eqnext/">last week</a> we asked which upcoming sandbox you'd most likely play, but as was correctly pointed out by an astute commenter, we inadvertently omitted a couple of promising indie projects.<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/The-Repopulation/"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> isn't slowing down for the holidays, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies">Above &amp; Beyond Technologies</a> announced that it's upgraded the core of the game to Hero Engine 2.0. The more powerful engine offers the title a lot in terms of visual improvements and capability (HDR lighting is now supported, for example), and the devs are quite excited to have it up and running.<br />
<br />
The team broke the news <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=288:end-of-december-2012-update&amp;catid=61:new-frontpage-news&amp;Itemid=428">in its December update post</a>. Along with the improved engine, <em>The Repopulation</em> has seen a lot of progress in the areas of dens, crafting, and vehicles. Small additions, such as six action bars and the new Rhinoc species, are going a long way to fleshing out this game.<br />

What a difference a year makes, amirite? This time twelve months ago, I was licking the wounds brought on by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a>' unceremonious and premature departure from the MMO scene. It was bad enough that a profitable title was sacrificed in order to clear a path for one of 2012's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/23/bioware-swtor-is-one-of-the-greatest-and-most-ambitious-achiev/">biggest disappointments</a>, but it was worse that said title was the premier sandbox in the genre's history.<br />
<br />

Over the weekend we learned that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> will be implementing some sort of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/12/01/the-repopulation-adds-entertainer-skills-pvp-tweaks/">Entertainer skill set</a> that is at least partly inspired by similar mechanics in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a>. <em>SWG's</em> signature non-combat profession is still unique in MMO annals, though, and we got to wondering if there are other nifty mechanics that should be revisited in newer games.<br />

It was the sound of cheering, as thousands of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a> fans rejoiced at the news that another MMORPG is finally riffing on its one-of-a-kind Entertainer profession. The MMO in question is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>, a sci-fi sandbox that just released its end-of-the-month update.<br />

Chief among the interesting additions for November was the Entertainment skill line, which grants players the ability to be the life of the party via music, storytelling, dancing, crowd motivation, "and other means."<br />
<br />
The system grants long-term buffs to entertained players provided that said entertaining happens in social/resting areas (think pubs, inns, theaters, etc.). Players may also make temporary wilderness camps that act as social areas. There's quite a bit more to this month's update, including PvP tweaks and the usual beta balancing adjustments. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation's</em></a> end-of-the-month update is here, and October marked more forward progress in terms of feature completion. The team at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies">Above &amp; Beyond Technologies</a> worked out a few kinks in the sci-fi sandbox title's complex vehicle system, and players should see them for the first time in next week's alpha patch.<br />
<br />
Vehicles can carry multiple players including a driver, gunners, and passengers. You'll be able to upgrade and customize your vehicles with regard to things like speed, steering, shields, armor, and weapons. Last month saw the introduction of two major features for the game: instanced housing and a new auto-grouping system. The latter is fairly straightforward, allowing players to automatically group with others when entering an engagement area instead of competing with other solo players for content.<br />

Instanced housing, on the other hand, is meant to cater to solo players and those who aren't interested in open PvP via the nation wars system. While your own personal housing lot won't have as many options as the full city interface, it will provide an option for players who do still want to enjoy some of the fun of building up a settlement.<br />

I can't say that I represent every roleplayer in the MMO space, but I have been a part of MMO roleplay communities going on eight years now. I think it's safe to say that I have a pretty good handle on what roleplayers want out of MMOs. Fortunately, there are existing game designs that can give us what we are looking for.<br />
<br />
When developers stop giving roleplayers new content, we -- unlike other gamers -- start to create our own. In fact, the vast majority of us don't rely on the game developers to give us any story content beyond the backdrop of the world our characters are living in, but that's not to say there aren't tools developers can give us that help with our level of immersion. Hello folks, and welcome back to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/some-assembly-required">Some Assembly Required</a>. I've been thinking about sandboxes quite a lot lately, and while this is nothing new, a couple of those I've been thinking about are flying pretty far under the radar.<br />
<br />
As much as I've been enjoying <a href="http://www.thesecretworld.com"><em>The Secret World</em></a> in recent weeks, it can't quite scratch that open world, free-roaming, full-blown economy experience that I've been missing since the days of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a> and <a href="http://www.uoherald.com/"><em>Ultima Online</em></a>. There are a couple of titles in the pipeline that may recapture those experiences, though. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies">Above &amp; Beyond Technologies</a> has released its end-of-the-month progress report for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>. It's a massive information dump, and the tl;dr version is that the sci-fi sandbox is doing quite well after a solid month of alpha testing.<br />
<br />
Highlights include new double-tap movement abilities, various improvements to the game's action mode, and extensive polish passes on "every skill line and ability." Well, it's a day ending in "y," so it must be time for another indie sandbox update (though thankfully this one has little to do with Kickstarter). In all seriousness, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies">Above &amp; Beyond Technologies</a> has released its June summary for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>, a sci-fi title that's heavy on nods to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/23/repopulation-devs-crafting-system-is-similar-to-uo-and-swg/">genre classics</a>.<br />

As you can see if you read the <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=242:end-of-june-2012-update&amp;catid=61:new-frontpage-news&amp;Itemid=428">lengthy new post</a>, the devs have been busy little bees. Alpha has officially started, a successful Kickstarter campaign is in the books, and the last four weeks saw the release of three gameplay videos as well as a ton of progress updates to the actual game client. Many sandbox fans have been eagerly anticipating <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/The-Repopulation/">The Repopulation</a></em> for a chance to take a personal look at the sci-fi game. For a lucky number of testers, that chance is now: The gates have opened and the first wave of alpha testers have ventured in to experience the world first-hand and help test the game as it moves ever closer to launch. In celebration, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies/">Above and Beyond Technologies</a> released a short video highlighting footage from the first day of alpha.<br />

What activities do sandbox-hungry players do once they get in? Quite a few dive into structure building, while others light up their screens with firefights as they test combat out on various creatures. At least one decides to take a load off and relax by taking advantage of the ability to sit in chairs.<br />

Most modern-day MMORPG crafting mechanics are, shall we say, uninspired. With the marginalization of the sandbox and the rise of the combat lobby, crafting and meaningful economic gameplay has taken a back seat in all but a handful of titles.<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><br />
<em>The Repopulation</em></a> is one such title, and the dev team has released a new video that shows off the sci-fi sandbox's crafting mechanics. Fortunately for starving tradeskill fans everywhere, the game hearkens back to the days of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/ultima-online"><em>Ultima Online</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a>. In those titles, "players were able to exist completely as a crafter, harvesting their own materials and then using them to create things," according to the game's website. "We have designed our system in a mold similar to those games. If players do not wish to partake in combat, they can still be a successful crafter," the devs explain.<br />

The new <em>Repopulation</em> tradeskills video gives us a good look at recipes and recipe customization via ingredient filters. There's also a brief bit about creature resource extraction, so check out the full nine-minute clip after the break.<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies">Above &amp; Beyond Technologies</a> has updated its website for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> this week. The forthcoming sci-fi sandbox MMO has some interesting systems on offer, none moreso than its <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=178&amp;Itemid=455">nations mechanic</a>.<br />
<br />
Nations are basically an extended form of traditional MMO guilds. They function as social structures and encourage cooperation in terms of raiding, crafting, sieging, and the like. Where they differ from genre norms is in their ability to control land and cities throughout the game world. Cities are a big deal too, and much of the nation gameplay is seemingly focused around city management.<br />
<br />
Combat in <em>The Repopulation</em> also departs from MMO convention, and while we've <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/05/the-repopulation-adds-action-mode-combat-toggle-military-system/">written about it</a> on occasion before, this is the first time that all of the nuts and bolts have been collected in a single <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=234&amp;Itemid=474">easy-to-reference</a> article. Few gaming features can claim such vastly different implementations as crafting. To the disappointment of dedicated MMO crafters, few games offer in-depth systems. Even worse, when trade skill systems are present, they are often near pointless as mass-produced generic goods or superior loot drops destroy the market. Not so for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/The-Repopulation/"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> -- <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies/">Above and Beyond Technologies</a> just unveiled details of the game's in-depth crafting system mentioned in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/05/the-repopulations-may-report-highlights-new-crafting-and-combat/">End of May report</a>.<br />
<br />
First and foremost, crafting will be a primary game type; crafters can succeed in their trade without combat. The system will also be very in-depth, involving tools and commanding players' attention in order to succeed.<br />
<br />
One of the more unique features is the crafting board: Instead of crafters tossing their wares into an auction house, customers post their order, including specifications and price, for crafters to fill. Also, due to the grade system, recipes gathered on the first day will still be valuable years later. Although not unique, harvesting is another interesting feature as necessary ingredients can be gained by manually gathering nodes, placing a structure, or extracting from kills.<br />

Another month has come and gone, which means it's time for another end-of-the-month status report for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/The-Repopulation/"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>, the upcoming sci-fi sandbox game that plans to start a round of alpha testing this month. To get ready for this next step, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies/">Above and Beyond Technologies</a> has been hard at work adding new elements to the game and tweaking many existing ones.<br />
<br />
Amid the UI tweaks and bug fixes, this update includes world, skill, crafting, and combat changes. Two new areas (Oasis Valley and Wreckage Site 94) have opened, while other areas have been revamped. Over fifty new decoration items have been added, including benches and chairs where players can sit. Stealth has been reworked so that players can now detect others using their own skill check. Crafting has a new system in place that will require players to respond to occasional events and the responses will affect the result of the craft. Combat sees new immunity timers for daze and stun effects that will prevent players from becoming stun-locked in PvP.<br />

Kickstarter is all the rage these days, particularly when it comes to indie sandbox MMORPGs. Recently both <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-repopulation"><em>The Repopulation</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/embers-of-caerus"><em>Embers of Caerus</em></a> unveiled crowd-funding drives, and we're always pleased to see other in-development MMOs join the parade.<br />
<br />
Massively's inbox has been flooded with tips about these games, and yet as of press time, <em>EoC's</em> drive boasts under 300 contributors while <em>The Repopulation's</em> has yet to top the hundred backer mark. Due to the way Kickstarter works, the devs are still able to meet funding goals thanks to large donations, but we have to wonder if hundreds of backers quicken the pulses of venture capitalists who know that MMOs need thousands of players to flourish.<br />
