I've given <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/the-digital-continuum-dark-elf-days-in-war/">my thoughts on the Dark Elf section</a> of <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a>, but now that the whole NDA is lifted I can finally speak about my experience with the beta as a whole. I've been in it for a long time. A really long time, in fact. We're talking about, well, since the thing started. Which gives me something more to say than the typical tester talking about this game. In my time interacting as a member of the beta community with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Mythic/">Mythic</a> -- concerning <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/">Warhammer Online</a>, of course -- I think I've seen more progress made on any MMO in the span of about a year than I have in any other in beta. And I've been in a lot of them.<br /><br />So what's the big deal? New MMOs are always facing the issue of going up against <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft's</a> several years of polishing. Everyone has always wondered what it would take to deal with that issue, too. Mythic seems to have decided it will take raw, unadulterated determination. The kind that a child displays when presented with the opportunity to have a new toy. It also helps to have a license that Blizzard themselves once attempted to acquire because of its depth. Ironic? Only if <span style="font-style: italic;">WAR</span> really does take a big chug out of the <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a> milkshake.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/23/the-digital-continuum-memoirs-of-a-war-beta-tester/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Memoirs of a WAR beta tester</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/23/the-digital-continuum-memoirs-of-a-war-beta-tester/">The Digital Continuum: Memoirs of a WAR beta tester</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 23 Aug 2008 11:00:00 EST. MMO mounts come in an almost endless variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and types. From the <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/mounts/kodos.html">mighty Kodo</a> to the <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;ct=res&amp;cd=1&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.playonline.com%2Fff11us%2F&amp;ei=kLZCSIGeD5Si8ATVney7CA&amp;usg=AFQjCNGUK6Eg7L2-0c8FYmWSBK7yZGfTzw&amp;sig2=cr9q4okvRXEfKZvnxD0KVw">agile Chocobo</a>, there's a generally accepted level of convention when it comes to mounts. They're usually organic (or at least they <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/mounts/mechanostriders.html">replicate being organic</a>), walk on legs, and have some way for players to sit astride them. Mounts that buck this trend are really few and far between.<br /><br />So you can imagine our surprise then when Avien over at the Warhammer Alliance forums posted several links to the new Dwarven mounts (also featured in the newest <em>Warhammer</em> newsletter) for <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> -- <a href="http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37972">in the form of personal gyrocopters</a>. They're certainly not what we would have guessed would be their mount if you had asked, but thinking about it, there's something so distinctly<em> Dwarven</em> about the idea of strapping a gyrocopter to your back and flitting about a battlefield. In any case, the concept art is extremely amusing both if you plan to make a stuntie yourself or if you aim to have them fall at your feet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/wars-dwarf-mounts-are-real-head-turners/">WAR's Dwarf mounts are real head turners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 01 Jun 2008 19:00:00 EST.
