The barrier between interest and hands-on play was knocked down today as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion-worlds/">Trion Worlds</a> <a href="http://forums.riftgame.com/official-rift-news/patch-notes/316285-rift-streaming-client-11-00am-pdt-5-9-12-na-7-00pm-bst-9-5-12-eu.html#post3780565">introduced a streaming client</a> for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift"><em>RIFT</em></a>. The new client will allow players to jump into the game without fully downloading it first.<br />
<br />
Players with a faster connection are invited to start the streaming client and then log into the game soon thereafter. The new client will continue to download the remainder of the game even while the player is logged in. However, Trion said that slower connection speed computers should wait for the full client to finish downloading first.<br />
<br />
<em>RIFT's</em> launcher will automatically convert to the new system. It's full of new content, including the new raid zone Infernal Dawn, fishing and survival skills, and lots of game improvements. We always face changes in our favorite MMOs. A new patch comes along and changes multi-click gathering to single-click, a cool <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/19/lost-pages-of-taborea-gotta-catch-em-all/">pet system</a> gets added or our main class gets nerfed. Sometimes changes happen before the game ever sees them, though.<br />

Tile-dungeons, a streaming client and party-spells are a few of these features left on the cutting-room floor. <div align="left">We saw the <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> booth at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamex-2009">GameX</a>, and we wagggggghed ourselves right into a video interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/james-casey">James Casey</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/matt-shaw">Matt Shaw</a> from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic-entertainment">Mythic Entertainment</a> that pulled no punches. We wanted to know what was going on behind the scenes with their decision making in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/16/warhammer-online-drops-1-3-2-and-looks-straight-ahead/">patch 1.3.2</a>, shooting James and Matt the hard questions.<br /><br />Why were fortresses pulled from the endgame? Why choose 1.3.2 for performance fixes and not fix these things earlier?
