If you pre-ordered your copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic from Amazon and are fretting over being locked out of the game until you receive your copy, fret no more.

The online retailer has issued a statement saying that it's going to ship BioWare's new sci-fi MMO earlier than expected due to the change in the title's release schedule. Amazon says that customers need take no action, as order updates and shipping times will be handled internally and posted to your account order page.

The company has also published a handy list of receiving dates that correspond to your selected shipping method, and you can find that and more on Amazon.com.
For most people, having the game you're working on break every pre-order record your parent company has ever seen would be enough to give you a breather and a sigh of relief. Not so with Star Wars: The Old Republic's Daniel Erickson, who admits to being on pins and needles nevertheless. Talking with Videogamer.com, Erickson says, "At least for myself, nothing short of shipping and actually being successful will alleviate that worry. I've watched this game grow since before day one and as with any creative project you pour your heart into, the mix of anticipation and fear is huge. We'll relax after the game is out, running beautifully and our fans are having a blast."

In the interview, Erickson used the opportunity to clear the air over a misquote concerning SWTOR "lasting decades," explain why he doesn't fully trust outside industry analysts, and talk about why the dev team stayed with the tried-and-true hotbar for combat.

Erickson also thinks that the subscription model isn't going anywhere, but will be applied mostly to "top tier" MMOs. "I expect to see a small group of games compete for the subscription dollar," he predicts, "and a larger group take on the F2P market with smaller, faster produced games that try to establish a core market then use the revenue streams created from that small market to improve and expand their game."
SWTOR's Daniel Erickson: 'The mix of anticipation and fear is huge' originally appeared on Massively on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 09:00:00 EST. Good news for everyone looking forward to jumping -- or flying, or teleporting for that matter -- into Champions Online at the beginning of next month: the official site has proudly announced that the game has gone gold (meaning it's fit for retail distribution) and will be available for purchase on the previously designated release date of September the 1st.

The short news update post also confirmed that the open beta will be going ahead as planned, starting Monday the 17th of August. It's possible that a delay in the release date would have meant a later open beta too, but thankfully we won't have to find out. We expect that a lot of you will have received your open beta keys (from pre-orders or Fileplanet subscriptions) and are getting your clients ready for the kickoff as this news hits. Not long now folks!
Champions Online goes gold, will ship as previously scheduled originally appeared on Massively on Sat, 15 Aug 2009 20:00:00 EST.
