If you live in New England, you've probably spent the past month staring at a wall of unblinking white hatred, playing video games in a desperate effort to feel less trapped. Unfortunately, this past week has been rather touch-and-go for the servers on City of Heroes, making it much harder to escape into the game whether or not you're walled in by frozen water. So the development team is offering an olive branch to players: the ski chalet just outside of Pocket D is being re-opened for the weekend.

Running until noon PST on February 8th, the ski chalet will be open to all characters to enjoy, something usually reserved for the winter holiday event. It'll also segue nicely into the start of the Spring Fling event, giving players their annual shot at earning valentine's-themed costume parts and badges. If you're one of the City of Heroes players who has been locked out by the server outages, you'll no doubt be happy for the opportunity to get in some winter fun -- unless, of course, you're still stuck in the midst of the winter's omnipresent snowdrifts.

Last year, Massively took a look at the top five features that make Guild Wars a great game. The first thing on the list was a near-total absence of server downtime. In the five-plus years the game has been around, incidents of server downtime are practically nonexistent.

For this reason, Guild Wars players were surprised to see an announcement of planned server downtime: "On Tuesday, August 10th, we will be moving the Guild Wars live database to a new data center. This will require a temporary interruption in service beginning at 12:01AM Pacific time on that date. Service may be suspended for up to 24 hours, although we will do everything we can to expedite the process. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this rare interruption!"

The fact that it's such an unusual occurrence will likely prevent it from being a frustrating one, and players should be back in Tyria in under 24 hours.

[Update: The move has been delayed until Wednesday, August 11th]

If you're wondering why the Warhammer Online main website isn't working (click the link for yourself to find out), or why you may be having connectivity issues with the game, it's because their ISP just did something they didn't want to happen.

Mythic Entertainment (not like you can reach that website either, right now) is aware of, and on top of, the issue. Currently players are unable to connect to the patcher servers, meaning that new players will not be able to get back into the game until these issues are fixed.

In the mean time, until everything comes back online, all pertinent data on the status of Warhammer can be found through Andy Belford's Twitter account, @Andy_Mythic. He'll keep players apprised of the situation until the main website can be brought back online.

Weekend warriors of the Hyborean variety may have to look into another extra-curricular this Sunday, as the Age of Conan login servers appear to be experiencing some troubles. Players reported serious lag spikes late this morning, developing into an all-out server downage. This blogger is currently unable to get back through the character login servers. Says Funcom Community Manager Famine, "It looks to be something externally right now but the operations guys are looking at it."

Instead of rickrolling the official forums like many other players seem to be doing, might we recommend taking this as an opportunity to mow the lawn or walk the dog? Or if the outdoors isn't your thing, how about reading through our backlog of Age of Conan coverage?

[Update: It appears the servers are back online. If we had known simply posting about the outage would bring them back up, we'd have done it much sooner!]
