As such, it's calling on its testers to provide a stress test. Now, unlike <em>Metaplace</em>, <em>Vastpark </em>requires that its creators download proprietary software to make everything work, but it plans on releasing an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sdk">SDK </a>for full user customization. Currently the software is PC-only, but a Mac version is planned.<br /><br />Their <a href="http://www.vastpark.com">website </a>shows an impressive array of <a href="http://www.vastpark.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=section&amp;layout=blog&amp;id=9&amp;Itemid=11">screenshots and video</a> -- when I lamented the state of what <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/raph-koster">Raph Koster</a> was showing at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gdc">GDC </a>this year, this is the sort of thing I was envisioning. <em>Vastpark </em>is the next logical step in the evolution of virtual worlds that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/second-life"><em>Second Life</em></a> pioneered. Time will tell whether it garners the same community and devotion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/07/vastpark-approaching-open-beta-in-april/">Vastpark approaching open beta in April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 07 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Apple's big <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2008/03/06/video-of-apple-iphone-roadmap-event-is-up/">introduction of the iPhone SDK</a> was big news yesterday for developers, and it (along with the up and coming Google Android) will likely have lots of far reaching implications on the world of gaming, and (considering how connected mobile devices are becoming) the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/mmos-and-the-iphone-sdk/">world of mobile MMOs</a>.<br /><br />But are you interested in such a thing? Do you really want to be playing MMOs wherever you go? Lots of people think they spend too much time playing MMOs already, and bringing massively multiplayer games into cell phones and mobile devices might just spread them a little too far into your life than you feel comfortable with.<br /><br />Most <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>WoW</em></a> players wouldn't mind checking their ingame mail even when they're not near a computer, but from what we've heard from some developers, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/parallel-kingdom-is-a-mobile-mmo-played-in-the-real-world/">mobile MMOs might end up</a> being a lot more than that. Are you interested in an MMO you can play anywhere, or would you rather relegate your MMO time to the computer, and be able to step away from it when you can?<br /><br /></div>

Wait, did we say applications? I certainly meant games -- Apple (which is not, as of late, known for their gaming prowess) had <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2008/03/06/apple-shows-off-iphone-gaming-chops/">EA and other game companies</a> appear on stage to show off what kind of games <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/spore-touch-fighter-shown-on-iphone/">can be based on the platform</a>. I also spend some of my time blogging on <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/">TUAW</a>, which is Weblogs, Inc's Apple blog, and I went on record there a while ago saying that the iPhone is the <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2008/01/08/ea-mobile-prez-iphone-is-hurting-mobile-game-development/">best handheld gaming device ever</a>. Given what we saw today (along with the fact that programmers will have access to the gadget's multitouch, accelerometer, and even microphone and camera features), I believe that more than ever -- all we need is some games to play on it.<br /><br />So what does this all mean for massively multiplayer games? Lots.<br /><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/mmos-and-the-iphone-sdk/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>MMOs and the iPhone SDK</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/mmos-and-the-iphone-sdk/">MMOs and the iPhone SDK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 21:30:00 EST.
