<div><a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/bungie-shoots-down-destiny-for-ps-vita-rumor-6408439">Some rumors</a> recently started circulating regarding <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bungie">Bungie's</a> upcoming title, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/destiny"><em>Destiny</em></a>, and the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ps-vita">PlayStation Vita</a>. Bungie confirmed that these rumors are false and that Destiny will not be revealed on the PlayStation Vita (despite some previous <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/destiny-preorder-page-lists-xbox-720-ps4-6404090">vague hints</a> to the contrary in the preorder page's source code).<br />
<br />
The rumors started after the release of an image that hinted at a Bungie game coming to PS Vita in 2014 called <em>Destiny of Spirits</em>. Given that Sony <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/sony-seeking-destiny-of-spirits-trademark-6406228">trademarked the name</a> <em>Destiny of Spirits</em>, something may still be afoot there.<br />
<br />
Destiny officially launches for the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/xbox">Xbox 360</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ps3">PlayStation 3</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ps4">PlayStation4 </a>some time next year.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/bungie-squashes-rumors-that-destiny-might-come-to-the-playstatio/">Bungie quashes rumors that Destiny might come to the PlayStation Vita</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 16 May 2013 18:00:00 EST. 	<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/04/02/rumor-titan-a-time-traveling-earthbound-mmo/"><img alt="Rumor Titan a timetraveling, earthbound MMO" data-src-height="294" data-src-width="530" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/blizzardlogo.jpg" /></a></div>
The folks over at <a href="http://titanfocus.info/_/news/project-titan-info-leak-esports-jay-wilson-blizzcon-2013-and-more-r65">Project <em>Titan</em></a> claim to have a huge leak on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard's</a> upcoming<em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/titan/">Titan</a> </em>project from a reliable (and unnamed) source. While we are certainly wary of rumors, particularly on this scale, the author says he is "extremely confident" about the leak in particular.<br />
<br />
So what is <em>Titan</em>, according to this post? Several bullet points sketch a picture of an MMO that is based on Earth, is big into historical mythology (including Greek, Roman, and Viking myths), and involves "a lot" of time travel. The leaks says that <em>Titan </em>will play from a third-person view, has a new game engine, could also be headed to consoles, and has a strong e-sports emphasis. The leak purports that over 150 developers are working on <em>Titan</em>, including <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jay-wilson">Jay Wilson</a>. Apparently we'll be seeing a teaser of <em>Titan </em>at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzcon-2013">BlizzCon</a> before it goes into friends and family testing in early 2014.<br />
<br />
So what do you think? Is this too elaborate to be a hoax, too vague to be the real thing, or a possible advance insight into what <em>Titan </em>is? Sound off in the comments!<br />
<br />

Hooboy, it's been a while since we've had a proper <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-war-z"><em>War Z</em></a> clusterfunk, hasn't it? Unfortunately for the zombie shooter's playerbase, the latest brouhaha involves some potential account security issues.<br />
<br />
What we know for sure is that a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hammerpoint">Hammerpoint</a> forum admin account was compromised, and the company says that "many posts were unable to be restored as a result." There are also rumors that producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sergey-titov">Sergey Titov's</a> admin account was affected and that those responsible are now in possession of <em>War Z</em> user info including account and email data.<br />
<br />
We've contacted Hammerpoint for clarification and will update this post if we receive a response.<br />

According to <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/bioware-san-francisco-shut-down-employees-laid-off/">GamesRadar</a>'s unnamed sources, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> San Francisco has reportedly <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/bioware-san-francisco-shut-down-employees-laid-off/">been shut down as of today</a>, resulting in the layoffs of 25-30 employees associated with the studio.<br />
<br />
The studio formerly known as EA2D was responsible for the <em>Dragon Age Legends</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Facebook/">Facebook</a> game and the browser-based <em>Mirror's Edge 2D</em>. While it was focused on developing mobile and social games, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Electronic-Arts/">Electronic Arts</a> found that handling development in the area was too expensive and has shut down operations.<br />
<br />
Our condolences to all those affected by this shutdown.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/03/04/bioware-san-francisco-shuts-down-mmos-remain-completely-unaffec/">Rumor: BioWare San Francisco shuts down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 04 Mar 2013 21:00:00 EST. Massively's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/contact/tips/">tipsters</a> are awesome. You've probably seen acknowledgements of their contributions in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02/08/face-of-mankind-gets-a-revamp-in-the-upcoming-milestone-patch/">posts</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02/11/kingdom-of-loathing-celebrates-its-tenth-birthday/">like</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/star-citizens-death-mechanics-to-create-a-sense-of-mortality-a/">these</a>. Without them, we'd be limited to just the research our fairly small staff can drum up on a moment's notice. The tipsters broaden our view and bring us news from games that might otherwise have gone overlooked. We love you guys.<br />
<br />
We do get tips we won't or can't report on, though. And it's not because we hate you. I promise.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02/14/ask-massively-with-thanks-to-the-tipsters/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ask Massively: With thanks to the tipsters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02/14/ask-massively-with-thanks-to-the-tipsters/">Ask Massively: With thanks to the tipsters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2013 13:00:00 EST. Is this our first in-game glimpse of a revamped <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-next"><em>EverQuest Next</em></a>? Take it with a grain of salt since it comes from an anonymous Joystiq tipster with a fishy timestamp, but regardless, it's awful purty.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/soe">Sony Online Entertainment</a> originally teased some heavily stylized in-game assets <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/06/fan-faire-2010-eqii-flying-mounts-eqnext-art-revealed/">over two years ago</a>, but since then the company has announced that its next <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest"><em>EverQuest</em></a> title has been blown up and re-designed as a sandbox. We don't know whether this includes an artistic revamp as well, but we do know that the game will make use of the same proprietary <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/forgelight">Forgelight</a> engine that powers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/planetside-2"><em>PlanetSide 2</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Have a look at the full-size leaked image after the cut and tell us what you think. Legit? Fake? If fake, what game is it from?<br />
<br />
<strong>[Update]:</strong> Well, SOE CEO <a href="https://twitter.com/j_smedley">John Smedley</a> has officially burst our bubble and we're playing the sad trombone. That said, any guesses as to where the image is actually from?<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/10/is-this-our-first-glimpse-of-soes-revamped-everquest-next/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Is this our first glimpse of SOE's revamped EverQuest Next? If you were just thinking that the world needed another Massively Online Battle Arena (<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/MOBA/">MOBA</a>) based on a previous game IP, the team at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/visceral-games">Visceral Games</a> may have read your mind. The <a href="http://www.deadspace.com/"><em>Dead Space</em></a> and <a href="http://www.ea.com/dantes-inferno"><em>Dante's Inferno</em></a> dev studio has posted a handful of tell-tale job listings on the Gamasutra job boards that point to the development of a MOBA.<br />
<br />
Among these MOBA-esque positions are a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=31525&amp;accountno=178">game designer</a>, a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=31455&amp;accountno=178">global community manager</a>, and a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobs/178-31526/Character-Concept-Artist-Contract--Visceral-Games-Redwood-Shores-Redwood-City-CA-United-States">character concept artist</a>, all with experience or passion for the PC MOBA genre. As it stands, the connection between these job listings is only speculation, but the real question seems to be whether or not the studio is working on a MOBA for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visceral_Games">one of their existing IPs</a> or an entirely new way to kill your friends in three-quarter overhead view with pre-made classes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/10/09/rumor-dantes-inferno-dev-may-be-working-on-a-moba/">Rumor: Dante's Inferno and Dead Space dev may be working on a MOBA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 09 Oct 2012 17:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-09-27-nexon-and-ncsoft-reported-in-talks-to-buy-valve">A South Korean newspaper is reporting</a> that MMO companies <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/nexon/">Nexon</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> are joining forces to consider buying <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/valve">Valve</a>. The two companies have been gathering together funds via stock sales and real estate deals. A meeting between the three companies supposedly happened in Hawaii on September 26th to haggle on <a href="http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/9/27/3415620/report-nexon-and-ncsoft-making-moves-to-acquire-valve">a $893 million-plus deal</a>.<br />
<br />
The three companies are already entangled in various business dealings. Nexon is NCsoft's biggest shareholder, and both companies have titles represented on Valve's Steam service. Additionally, Nexon licenses <em>Counterstrike </em>in Asia and announced that <em>Counterstrike 2</em> was on the way.<br />
<br />
NCsoft said that "there is no truth to this rumor" while Nexon refused to comment. Valve has been the subject of other attempted buyouts, including a reportedly $1 billion-plus deal from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea">EA</a>. Valve CEO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gabe-newell">Gabe Newell</a> has gone on record saying that it would be more likely for Valve to disband than the company selling out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/09/27/rumor-nexon-and-ncsoft-eye-valve-buyout/">Rumor: Nexon and NCsoft eye Valve buyout</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2012 09:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sony">Sony Computer Entertainment America</a> President and CEO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jack-tretton">Jack Tretton</a> may have given away <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dust-514"><em>DUST 514's</em></a> launch window. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> shooter sidequel has been slated for a 2012 release for some time now, but developer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp">CCP</a> has remained coy regarding the details.<br />

During a recent FOX Business interview, Tretton said the sci-fi title is "<a href="http://www.strategyinformer.com/news/20007/sony-dust-514-to-release-next-month">coming out next month</a>."<br />

When <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft/">NCsoft</a> announced that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion"><em>Aion</em></a> 4.0 would include <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/gamescom-2012-aion-will-offer-three-new-classes-in-4-0/">three new classes</a>, the only information provided was what two of the classes would wield -- everything else was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08/20/wings-over-atreia-creating-classes-for-aion-4-0/">speculation</a>. Now, three silhouettes showing off these new weapons have surfaced.<br />
<br />
Two of the images follow suit with the announced weapon type; one appears to be a harp-like instrument, and the other resembles a cannon-type gun. The third image looks to be more like a golem, which might be a mount or a wearable suit. All three images can be viewed after the break.<br />
<br />
Are these really the first images of the mysterious new classes? We have contacted NCsoft for comment and will update the post when we hear back.<br />
<br />
<strong>[Update: The images <a href="http://na.aiononline.com/news/announcements/first-look-new-40-player-classes">are official</a> and the classes are tentatively known as Musician, Gunner, and Rider.]</strong><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/09/20/rumor-silhouettes-of-aions-new-4-0-classes-surface/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Silhouettes of Aion's new 4.0 classes surface [Updated]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/09/20/rumor-silhouettes-of-aions-new-4-0-classes-surface/">Silhouettes of Aion's new 4.0 classes surface [Updated]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 20 Sep 2012 10:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea/">Electronic Arts</a>, long known for assimilating numerous studios under its label, may be putting itself up for sale in return. <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/mad_for_madden_3lyqSl04ZEpZeO9Zmh81GI">The New York Post reports</a> that EA is looking into such a deal with various interested firms, such as <a href="http://www.kkr.com/">KKR</a> and <a href="http://www.provequity.com/">Providence Equity Partners</a>.<br />
<br />
One of the Post's sources said that EA would be willing to sell to such a firm at $20 a share, even though the company's share value is currently just north of $13. Its stock fell from $25.20 nine months ago, although industry analyst <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/michael-pachter/">Michael Pachter</a> predicts that EA's stock should double within a year.<br />
<br />
EA isn't the only company looking to shore up its future, as the videogame market is slumping worldwide since last year. One bright spot is its digital sales, which are up over 2011's numbers and resulted in a $324 million revenue in the first quarter of 2012.<br />
<br />
EA refused to comment on the rumor, as did KKR and Providence Equity.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/rumor-ea-putting-itself-up-for-sale/">Rumor: EA putting itself up for sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 17 Aug 2012 16:00:00 EST. According to a rumor circulating at German games site <a href="http://www.gamersglobal.de/news/56545/verlassen-zeschukmuzyka-bioware-ea-auszeit-nein-3u">GamersGlobal</a>, one of the founders of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Greg-Zeschuk/">Greg Zeschuk</a>, may be leaving the studio he helped create.<br />
<br />
Word of his possible departure has been rumored since the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/22/star-wars-the-old-republic-hit-with-layoffs/">May layoffs</a>, but an <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> representative reportedly confirmed to GamersGlobal that Zeschuk "outlined his plan to return to his family in Edmonton for a much deserved vacation." The site also suggested that Zeschuk has been absent from the studio for several weeks, and there were fears within the Austin studio that both Zeschuk and co-founder <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/RayMuzyka/">Ray Muzyka</a> were planning to leave.<br />
<br />
The rep went on to clarify: "Greg also announced the new GM of BioWare Austin and Old Republic, Matt Bromberg. Greg is still with EA. He's now back in Canada, taking time off and thinking about new projects. No change with Ray Muzyka."<br />
<br />
As this is still a rumor at this point, we must note that official confirmation from EA hasn't been made on this report. We will update with any news as it's made available.<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/rich-vogel">Rich Vogel</a> is no longer with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare</a>, according to a report at <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/174300/SWTORs_executive_producer_leaves_BioWare_amid_layoff_reports.php">Gamasutra</a>. Vogel served as <em>SWTOR's</em> executive producer and is an MMO industry veteran of 20 years on various titles, including <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/ultima-online"><em>Ultima Online</em></a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/meridian-59"><em>Meridian 59</em></a>.<br />
<br />
The article also mentions <a href="https://twitter.com/doctordake/status/225276107396624385">emerging reports</a> that BioWare's Austin campus is laying off workers as of this morning, though Vogel's departure apparently precedes these new developments. It's unclear whether the cuts are a continuation of the restructuring begun <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/22/star-wars-the-old-republic-hit-with-layoffs/">last May</a> or a new round of layoffs.<br />
<br />
Vogel signed on with BioWare in 2005 and most recently made headlines for a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/gdc-2012-a-peek-behind-swtors-project-management-curtain/">GDC 2012</a> presentation that highlighted <em>SWTOR's</em> project management apparatus.<br />
<br />

Rumors are swirling about the possible sale of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/activision-blizzard">Activision-Blizzard</a> after the departure of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/vivendi">Vivendi</a> CEO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jean-bernard-levy">Jean-Bernard Levy</a> this week. Vivendi owns 61% of Acti-Blizz, and Levy reportedly walked over a disagreement about splitting up the French holding company.<br />
<br />
How this affects Activision-Blizzard remains to be seen, but <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-29/vivendi-said-to-plan-sale-of-stake-in-activision-blizzard.html">Bloomberg</a> says that Vivendi is looking to sell its entire stake, according to "a person with knowledge of the situation." <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303649504577494323954109742.html">The Wall Street Journal</a> says that Vivendi's board of directors is mulling whether or not to split the company, which could potentially affect <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a> and its <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/diablo-iii"><em>Diablo III</em></a> titles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/30/rumor-vivendi-looking-to-sell-activision-blizzard-stake/">Rumor: Vivendi looking to sell Activision-Blizzard stake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 30 Jun 2012 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/38-studios">38 Studios</a> stories continue to circulate through the gaming media this week, with the latest arriving courtesy of Gamasutra. The industry news site has published an <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/172303/38_Studios_Spouse_speaks_out.php">anonymous letter</a> from an alleged former employee's wife that details the challenges inherent in supporting a large family that is subject to the whims of the game industry.<br />
<br />
The letter outlines the family's financial struggles in great detail, and it serves as a cautionary tale to game industry hopefuls who are thinking of uprooting a family to follow a dream. Though the author is unnamed and could quite literally be anyone, Gamasutra says it has "verified her husband's name and former position at 38 Studios."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/13/alleged-38-studios-spouse-outlines-familys-financial-struggles/">Alleged 38 Studios spouse outlines family's financial struggles after company's closure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2012 14:00:00 EST. Just a few days ago, expansion talk for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift">RIFT</a></em> was fueled by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/27/rift-hints-at-expansion-details-with-strange-box/">a mysterious box</a> containing an assortment of items and emblazoned with the phrase "A Storm Is Brewing." According to legal documents, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion-worlds/">Trion Worlds</a> just trademarked the title Storm Legion, touching off even more speculation about a possible expansion. Some fans are already discussing what storylines might be developed in such an expansion; so far, the consensus seems to be for evolving the lore of Crucia and Regulos.<br />
<br />
While there is no official word on an expansion, signs are certainly pointing to one. As soon as we get more information we will pass it along.<br />

It is not every day that a U.S. governor is the one to announce the launch window for an MMO, so savor the weirdness while you can: Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/18/rhode-island-governor-gives-38-studios-copernicus-mmo-a-june-20/">announced at a press conference</a> that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/38-studios/">38 Studios</a> will be releasing code-name <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/project-copernicus/">Project Copernicus</a> next summer. "What I understand is Copernicus is June of '13," Chafee said. He also stated that he thought the financial deal was a "risky enterprise" from the start.<br />
<br />
38 Studios Founder and Chairman Curt Schilling <a href="http://bostonglobe.com/business/2012/05/18/facebook-curt-schilling-denies-paid-himself-back-with-money-thanks-supporters-ailing-studios-video-game-company/EnqdY2flmq0Bf55m4YvdRM/story.html">said on Facebook</a> that rumors of his using the state funds to repay his personal investment in the company was "not true." In a separate post, Schilling attempted to set an optimistic tone: "We will find a way, and the strength, to endure."<br />
<br />
We have been following <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/rumor-38-studios-may-be-having-financial-trouble/">the financial turmoil</a> that 38 Studios is in following <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/if-38-studios-goes-under-rhode-island-taxpayers-will-be-footing/">its default on paying back Rhode Island</a> for its $75 million loan. The studio and state <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/no-relief-in-sight-for-38-studios-after-emergency-meeting/">are looking for options</a>, but in the meanwhile, 38 Studios has been struggling to make payments <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/17/38-studios-paying-state-back-by-not-paying-employees/">by holding back employee paychecks</a> and seeking additional capital from private investors.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/18/38-studios-project-copernicus-to-release-in-june-2013-says-ri/">38 Studios' Project Copernicus to release in June 2013, says RI governor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 18 May 2012 14:30:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/38-Studios/">38 Studios</a> is one of many developers whose first big game (<em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em>) was rumored to lead into an MMO further on down the line. It looks like there may be storm clouds on the horizon before that project even gets moving, however, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/rhode-island-gov-working-hard-at-keeping-38-studios-solvent/">the company may be facing financial issues</a>. Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee has apparently been meeting with owner <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Curt-Schilling/">Curt Schilling</a> to work on "different issues," with Chafee noting that his administration has always tried to ensure that Rhode Island companies remain financially solvent.<br />
<br />
If you consider that Rhode Island invested about $75 million in the company, it's obvious that the government has an interest in making the company remain viable over the long term. <em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em> was a moderate hit, but that might not be enough for the company as it develops. We'll have more on this story as it develops, hopefully with better news.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/rumor-38-studios-may-be-having-financial-trouble/">Rumor: 38 Studios may be having financial trouble</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 14 May 2012 20:20:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/runes-of-magic/"><em>Runes of Magic's</em></a> third anniversary is finally upon us. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/frogster/">Frogster</a> has been gearing up for the event by holding diamond sales and cash-shop specials. Each anniversary, you can also take part in multiple frog-related quests and events. Frog-bashing, frog disguises, and more frog-bashing have long been a staple. Frog-racing and frog etiquette have been added to the roster. What's frog etiquette? Why, it's either insulting or complimenting frogs, silly. During the festivities, various freebies are usually handed out to players who log in, as well.<br />
<br />
The real question is what's new in the land of Taborea, but if you wanted to know about new lands or dungeons, you'll have to wait a little bit longer. There's no official word, but given the time that's passed and the unofficial images and information that are floating around the Internet, we know <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/runes-of-magic-chapter-5/">Chapter 5</a> can't be too far off. There are still players out there who are far from making their way through the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/chapter-4/">Chapter 4</a> content, but many guilds on the cutting edge are starting to trample Tomb of the Seven Heroes into a well-worn path.<br />
<br />
During this intermediary period, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/runewaker-entertainment/">Runewaker</a> added the random attribute extractor and the costume interface. This isn't a replacement to aggregating; it's more like an extension. Most recently, the team introduced a patch containing bug fixes and a sprinkling of changes to the user interface, guilds, pets, vendor NPCs, quests, crafting, and skills. Some of the most exciting information is sketchy but does point to two possible new classes. And what class (or race?) could possibly have skills with names like "forge" and "runecraft" in them? Hmm...<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/runes-of-magic-on-its-third-anniversary/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Runes of Magic on its third anniversary</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/runes-of-magic-on-its-third-anniversary/">Runes of Magic on its third anniversary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2012 12:00:00 EST. You know, that pesky <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/elder-scrolls"><em>Elder Scrolls</em></a> MMO rumor just won't die. We've been hearing scuttlebutt of a Tamriel-themed massively multiplayer title for years now, and even though <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bethesda">Bethesda</a> has debunked such gossip in the past, Tom's Hardware is citing an "industry source" who says the title is a reality.<br />
<br />
The latest rumbling posits that the game will feature three factions and will take place several hundred years prior to the events of <em>Morrowind</em>, <em>Oblivion</em>, and <em>Skyrim</em>. Also, some sort of official announcement is supposedly scheduled for May. Following that, the source claims, the <em>Elder Scrolls</em> MMO will have a "presence at E3" in June.<br />
<br />
Bethesda has yet to comment, but we'll bring you the latest info as it happens.<br />

The rumor mill is churning fast and furious today as heavy speculation is swirling about a possible release date for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Diablo-III/"><em>Diablo III</em></a>: April 17th. This comes from Italian website <a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/site/content.php?3417-Diablo-III-Fuori-il-17-Aprile!">mmorpgitalia</a>, which reports that retailers are clearing space for their shelves on the 17th after a tip from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/activision-blizzard/">Activision Italy</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard/">Blizzard</a>, of course, is declining to comment on the rumor, although Game Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jay-Wilson/">Jay Wilson </a>says that an "all-important announcement" -- most likely the release date -- is imminent. When asked on Twitter how soon the announcement would arrive (on a scale of 1-10), Wilson replied with a simple "9."<br />
<br />
Tomorrow begins the <a href="http://www.cebit.de/home">CeBIT 2012</a> trade show in Europe, and Blizzard will be present to show off the <em>Diablo III</em> beta. If an announcement is to be made, this event might make a good a platform as any from which to tell the gaming world which day it's going to need to take off from work.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/05/rumor-diablo-iii-releasing-april-17th/">Rumor: Diablo III releasing April 17th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 05 Mar 2012 16:00:00 EST. Stop us if you're heard this one before: There's a new MMO coming out of Korea. It's drop-dead gorgeous, it's built on the latest version of the Unreal engine, and it features fantasy armor that doesn't leave much to the imagination.<br />
<br />
No, it's not <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion"><em>Aion</em></a> or even <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA</em></a>. The new kid on the block is called <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bless"><em>Bless</em></a>, and though we told you about the game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/neowiz-partners-with-epic-games-korea-for-new-unreal-3-mmorpg/">back in October</a>, it's taken <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/neowiz">Neowiz</a> a while to come up with an English website. That website is now live (though it does take forever and a day to load). The site features a trailer, a few screenshots and character concepts, and brief snippets of lore that seem to indicate two factions (Cosmopolis and Hierapolis).<br />
<br />
We've heard a rumor that Neowiz has more than 150 developers working on the project, some of whom worked on <em>Aion</em>, <em>TERA</em>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/lineage-2"><em>Lineage II</em></a>. We'll bring you more on the new title as it becomes available.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/27/new-korean-mmo-bless-reveals-english-website/">New Korean MMO Bless reveals English website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 27 Feb 2012 10:00:00 EST. Rumor has it that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a> is hopping on the free-to-play crazy train. <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/39915/New-Blizzard-game-to-be-free-to-play">Develop</a> reports that the company "will embrace free-to-play and will apply the model in an upcoming, as yet unannounced game."<br />
<br />
The website says that Blizzard has declined to comment in an official capacity, and the site's source could not provide more details. It's been speculated that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft's</em></a> recent <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/09/wow-loses-another-100-000-subscribers/">subscription losses</a>, the fact that <em>DOTA</em> is free-to-play, and the game's unlimited free trial though level 20 all indicate a shift in Blizzard's business model mindset.<br />
<br />
COO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/paul-sams">Paul Sams</a> also paid lip service to F2P at BlizzCon last October, saying that F2P "certainly is possible, if we find ourselves in that circumstance, or if we come up with a game where we think that's the right business model, the most appropriate for players to experience it."<br />
<br />
Could the long-awaited <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/titan">Project Titan</a> MMO be Blizzard's first F2P offering, or is a completely new title in the works? We'll update you as the story develops.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/23/rumor-blizzard-embracing-f2p-for-unannounced-game/">Rumor: Blizzard embracing F2P for unannounced game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 23 Feb 2012 11:00:00 EST. Could we finally have <a href="http://p3.no/filmpolitiet/2012/02/%E2%80%93-2012-kommer-til-a-bli-et-veldig-viktig-ar-for-funcom/">a specific launch date</a> for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em></a>? Yes, but more accurately, no.<br />
<br />
While hopeful fans clung to possible news that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom</a> had confirmed an April 24th launch date, the studio has issued a statement saying that this was "an internal production date" that was mentioned at a recent press event, and doesn't necessarily reflect the actual release date for the title:
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	Funcom has become aware of postings in various media stating that commercial launch of the online game <em>The Secret World</em> has been set to 24 April 2012. This date was communicated at a press event in the Funcom offices in Oslo today -- as an internal production date.<br />
	<br />
	Funcom has previously announced the launch month for the game to be April 2012 and wants to stress that there is currently no change or update on the expected time for commercial launch of <em>The Secret World</em>. The company will announce the release date at a later stage through a stock notice and a formal press release when the date has been set.</blockquote>
The studio recently wrapped up a week dedicated to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/illuminati-week/">the Illuminati faction</a> and revealed one of the game's spooky settings, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/25/the-secret-worlds-blue-mountain-revealed/">Blue Mountain</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/08/funcom-debunks-the-secret-world-launch-date-rumor/">Funcom debunks The Secret World launch date rumor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 08:30:00 EST. When details of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard/">Blizzard's</a> upcoming casual MMO, code-named <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/titan/"><em>Titan</em></a>, are incredibly scarce due to the developer's ironclad secrecy, it falls to enterprising fans to ferret out any scraps of information that may exist. One such player on <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=459767">the NeoGAF forums</a> was combing through a Blizzard job posting for a <a href="http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/careers/posting.html?id=10000B3">Franchise Development Producer</a> and noted an interesting line that indicated the studio could be mulling over the idea of in-game ads for its next MMO.<br />
<br />
The line in question specifies that one of the duties of the position is to "work with major consumer brands to facilitate product placement and licensing within the world of Blizzard Entertainment's next-gen MMO that enhances the gameplay experience." Whether this is a sign that we'll be seeing billboards for Skittles while we raid or that players will be able to get endorsements and decorate their outfits a la NASCAR cars is anyone's guess.<br />

It's important to note that the rest of this position entails a number of efforts to promote Blizzard's "next-gen MMO" outside of the tight-knit gaming sphere, including comics, action figures, and short movies.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/23/blizzard-job-listing-mentions-product-placement-within-their-n/">Blizzard job listing mentions 'product placement' within its next MMO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 23 Jan 2012 08:30:00 EST. It's been a rough couple of years for <em>Warhammer</em> MMORPG fans, and if the rumors are true, it's about to get a bit bleaker.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://kotaku.com/5876253/thq-wipes-out-games-planned-for-2014-to-ready-itself-for-sale-says-insider">Kotaku</a> reports on a tweet by games industry insider <a href="https://twitter.com/TheKevinDent">Kevin Dent</a> that indicates that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ</a> has "canceled its entire 2014 slate of releases to position the company for sale." This would include <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online</em></a>, which Dent referred to as "<a href="https://twitter.com/#!/TheKevinDent/status/158454172239409152">the Games Workshop MMO</a>" on his Twitter page.<br />

The recent spate of MMO industry layoffs isn't discriminating in terms of company size if the latest rumors are true. We've just been informed that one of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard's</a> golden boys has been served his walking papers, joining hundreds of devs from the likes of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamersfirst">GamersFirst</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gameforge">GameForge</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp">CCP</a> in recent weeks.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/john-staats">John Staats</a>, the senior level designer on Blizzard's secretive <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/titan"><em>Titan</em></a> project, has been let go, according to our tipster. Staats has been with the company for over a decade and is responsible for some of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft's</em></a> most celebrated content including all the raid dungeons, Blackrock Mountain and Booty Bay, and numerous other instanced dungeons.<br />
<br />
Staats was also described by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jeff-kaplan">Jeff Kaplan</a> as the "hero of the <em>WoW</em> dev team."<br />
<br />

If the rumors are true, today has not been the best of days for MMO industry staffers. Hot on the heels of our <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> layoff story comes distressing news for fans of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamersfirst">GamersFirst</a>, as we've just received an anonymous tip concerning the apparent dismissal of 32 people from the firm's west coast office.<br />
<br />
According to our tipster, "Most of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/all-points-bulletin"><em>APB</em></a> team was let go. A lot of the support staff was let go. The development team was not, to my knowledge, so the game is still being developed in Scotland." We've also been told that GamersFirst's CFO was let go.<br />
<br />
We've reached out to G1 for clarification on this story, and as of press time there is no official word on the staffing decisions or how the shake-up will affect <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/fallen-earth"><em>Fallen Earth</em></a> and the rest of the company's free-to-play lineup.<br />

Mass conspiracy? Over-eager fans? Or deliberate misinformation? No matter what the case, it turns out that recent information about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-40k/"><em>Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online</em></a> was not passed down by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ</a> itself, and these "facts," such as the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/warhammer-40k-dark-millennium-online-launch-date-revealed/">launch date</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/thq-releases-flood-of-new-details-for-warhammer-40k-dark-millen/">class list</a>, should be treated as speculative rumors and nothing more.<br />
<br />
THQ sent a letter to several media outlets clarifying the situation:
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	It has come to THQ's attention that some media are reporting that we've announced game details and a release date for our upcoming massively multiplayer online project, <em>Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online</em>. At this time THQ has not officially announced a release date and any reported features are pure speculation. THQ will announce confirmed game features and an official release date at a later time.</blockquote>
We will keep an eye on this title and the news coming out of THQ as it develops.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/thq-says-war40k-release-date-features-list-is-pure-speculation/">THQ says WAR40K release date, features list is 'pure speculation'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 22:30:00 EST. If you've been among the vocal crowds demanding that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> stop fiddling around with that "Star Wars thing" and get on a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mass-effect/"><em>Mass Effect</em></a> MMO as soon as possible, today might be your day of vindication. It turns out that BioWare's co-founders are very much open to the possibility of an online edition of its popular <em>Mass Effect</em> franchise.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ray-muzyka/">Ray Muzyka</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/greg-zeschuk/">Greg Zeschuk</a> recently fielded the ever-popular question in a much more upbeat tone than ever before. Zeschuk says the studio will evaluate a potential <em>Mass Effect </em>MMO in the near future: "You never know. I think once <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic">The Old Republic</a></em> is done, we'll take a fresh look at the market."<br />
<br />
"We're focused very much on <em>The Old Republic</em>, <em>Mass Effect 3</em> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-heroes/"><em>Wrath of Heroes</em></a>, and all the other things we've announced, and haven't announced, but we also have the opportunity to look at our franchises in a way we haven't ever before. There are lots of new platforms and lots of new business models," Muzyka added.<br />
<br />
<em>Mass Effect: The MMO</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/11/mass-effect-the-mmo/">is one of those speculative rumors</a> that seems to never die. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/06/analyst-predicts-a-mass-effect-mmo-could-top-the-old-republic/">Analysts have predicted</a> that such an MMO could top <em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's</em> numbers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/30/bioware-open-to-the-possibility-of-a-mass-effect-mmo/">BioWare open to the possibility of a Mass Effect MMO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 30 Sep 2011 14:00:00 EST. Although the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/faxion-online/"><em>Faxion Online</em></a> team has <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/18/faxion-online-studio-hit-with-layoffs/">weathered layoffs</a> before, today it looks as though none have survived a recent culling.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.faxiononline.com/content/rip-faxion">a forum post</a> citing a former <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/utv/">UTV</a> employee, it's rumored that the entire team has been given their pink slips. "It is now officially dead," the unnamed source wrote. "They laid off the rest of the <em>Faxion </em>team, so there is no one left to do anything."<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/disney-looking-to-buy-out-faxion-online-developer/">Disney recently bought out UTV Ignition</a>, which oversees <em>Faxion</em> <em>Online</em>, and there was some speculation that the Mouse House might be making cuts in this struggling PvP MMO and elsewhere. So far this is an unconfirmed rumor, and it remains to be seen what impact this will have on <em>Faxion </em>going forward if true.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/17/rumor-entire-faxion-online-team-laid-off/">Rumor: Entire Faxion Online team laid off</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 17 Aug 2011 22:00:00 EST. First there was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-burning-crusade/"><em>The Burning Crusade</em></a>, then <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king/">Wrath of the Lich King</a></em>, and, most recently, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cataclysm/"><em>Cataclysm</em></a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft's</em></a> expansions have been the lifeblood of literally millions of gamers' playtime, which is why many fans are anxiously awaiting word of the fourth expansion pack to the hit MMO.<br />
<br />
Today we may know the name of the expansion: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mists-of-pandaria/"><em>Mists of Pandaria</em></a>. According to MMO Champion, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard/">Blizzard</a> filed a trademark with this title on July 28th, which is exactly in line with how the company has procured titles for the previous expansions. The trademark specifies that this is for "computer game software."<br />
<br />
The Pandarens are one of the more light-hearted races in the Warcraft franchise, with kung fu panda bears from a secret empire somewhere in Azeroth. Despite being fan favorites, the Pandarens have been rarely seen in <em>WoW</em>, while Blizzard has used them in a couple different April Fool's jokes in the past.<br />
<br />
We'll be keeping our eyes on Blizzard for any official confirmation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/03/has-wows-next-expansion-been-named/">Rumor: World of Warcraft's next expansion has been named</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 03 Aug 2011 08:30:00 EST. If the rumors are true (and we'd like to stress that these are simply rumors as of press time), <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bluehole-studio">Bluehole Studio</a> is undergoing something of a shakeup following the less-than-stellar showing of its <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA</em></a> MMORPG in Korea.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hyun-kyu-park">Hyun-Kyu Park</a>, <em>TERA's</em> executive director, has reportedly left the development firm due to an as-yet undetermined internal conflict. Our sources in Korea tell us that Park locked horns with other senior Bluehole executives due to his desire to postpone the game's open beta earlier this year. At the time, Park stepped down from his role as <em>TERA's</em> chief producer to become a producer on a forthcoming Bluehole title but is now rumored to have left the firm entirely.<br />
<br />
<em>TERA</em> launched in Korea on January 25th and Bluehole began merging servers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/01/rumor-tera-korean-servers-merging/">earlier this summer</a>. Massively has contacted <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse">En Masse Entertainment</a>, <em>TERA's</em> North American publisher, and is awaiting a response.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/rumor-teras-korean-development-director-resigns/">Rumor: TERA's Korean development director resigns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 12:00:00 EST. Most of the game's fans are aware that there will be some announcement made regarding the game once <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">San Diego Comic-Con</a> starts up on Thursday, but suspicions seem confirmed when <a href="http://www.empik.com/">Polish retailer Empik.com</a> released what looked to be pre-order information complete with box art for the game.<br />
<br />
Needless to say, the actual entry for the order was quickly pulled from the page, but the box art image remains available, including mention of a pre-order "colour stone to change your weapon effect." Plausible? Considering how many fans are waiting with bated breath to get a release date on the game, it's certainly believable that a release or pre-order is among the orders of business at the convention. It might seem like a bit of a thin framework for fans to pin their hopes on... but even so, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> fans should keep their eyes open during SDCC to see if it turns out to be an accurate forecast of coming announcements.<br />
<br />
[Thanks to all of the tipsters on this one!]<br />

	<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/fearless.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/controversy-brewing-over-eve-online-microtransactions/">In the wake of controversy</a> surrounding <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a>'s new microtransaction store and its not-so-micro prices, a document has surfaced that has raised more than a few eyebrows in the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/">EVE</a></em> community. The PDF is reported to be a copy of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games/">CCP</a>'s internal company newsletter Fearless. Ex-CCP employee and current CSM member Seleene was <a href="http://failheap-challenge.com/viewtopic.php?p=121170#p121170">able to verify that the company does circulate</a> an internal newsletter by that name and that the style is very similar to the leaked document. However, the absolute authenticity of the document can not at this time be proven.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.evenews24.com/2011/06/22/greed-is-good-purportedly-leaked-internal-bulletin-shows-ccps-refreshing-new-direction/">The document dates back to May 2011</a> and discusses how microtransactions will be integrated into <em>EVE Online</em>, <em><a href="http://www.dust514.com">DUST 514</a></em> and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-darkness">World of Darkness</a></em>. Most of the document is fairly harmless, but a few parts have stood out to players. According to the document, <em>"Not all virtual purchases </em>[in EVE Online]<em> will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright."</em> Also mentioned is the possibility of buying faction standings. Both of these would be in complete contrast to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/23/eve-online-microtransactions-wont-impact-gameplay/">earlier promises from CCP not to allow microtransactions</a> that influence gameplay.<br />
<br />
Authenticity of the document is still in question, but we can reveal that the leaked PDF has had several pages removed before being made public. A <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?ccl135embyb6c2v">link to the full version</a> was later <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/HelicityBoson/status/83669623131738112">leaked on twitter</a>. Page 2 of the document, which was omitted in the originally leaked file, contains a disclaimer stating that the views presented are personal opinions and not company policies or decisions. This adds further confusion as players attempt to make sense of the file's contents. We reached out to CCP to ask about the document's authenticity and to request clarification on the discussions presented in it. We'll update this post with any response we get.<br />
<br />
<strong>[UPDATE: The document's authenticity has <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1536065&amp;page=5#126">been confirmed by CCP Pann</a> from CCPs PR department. We've been on mystical pins and needles for the past week as the countdown continues to tomorrow's full reveal of <a href="http://www.pottermore.com/">Pottermore</a>, a mysterious website bearing <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jk-rowling/">J.K. Rowling's</a> name. <a href="http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2011/06/leaked-memo-reveals-pottermore-will-be-online-gaming-website/240848/">The Atlantic reports</a> that a leaked memo making the rounds spells out the truth: Pottermore will be an online game of sorts.<br />
<br />
The memo <em>"suggests that [Pottermore.com] is a sophisticated online game that contains clues to prizes that are hidden in the real world. These are an unstated number of magic wands secreted in Britain and America, and possibly other countries."</em><br />
<br />
This sounds more like an <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arg/">ARG</a> -- alternate reality game -- than an MMO, although we're not prepared to rule out the possibility until all is said and revealed. The article mentions that this could be a marketing tool tied into Pottermore instead of Pottermore proper.<br />
<br />
Fans who'd love to see a Harry Potter MMO still have hope that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/rumor-is-pottermore-the-upcoming-harry-potter-mmo/">this could be the real deal</a>, but we won't know for sure until tomorrow's announcement.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/leaked-memo-says-pottermore-is-an-online-game/">Leaked memo says Pottermore is an online game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 22 Jun 2011 14:00:00 EST. Internet scuttlebutt has it that <a href="http://turbine.com">Turbine</a> is cooking up a console MMO codenamed Project Hendrix. A posting at <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/middleearthonline/news/6320286/turbine-crafting-project-hendrix-console-mmo-game">GameSpot</a> cites a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/turbine">Turbine</a> job listing that seeks an engineer for an "<em>unannounced online console project</em>." The article also mentions the resume of one <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/josh-phelan">Josh Phelan</a>, a Turbine employee who apparently mentioned the Hendrix title in his online resume (which has since <a href="http://joshphelan.com/">gone dark</a>).<br />
<br />
Turbine's console aspirations are <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6228694/turbine-on-spinning-console-mmorpgs">nothing new</a>, as studio VP <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/craig-alexander">Craig Alexander</a> hinted at such desires as early as 2009. Commenter speculation links the job listing to the mysterious <a href="http://www.pottermore.com/"><em>Pottermore</em></a> title, and given Turbine's acquisition by <a href="http://www.warnerbros.com/">Warner Brothers</a> (which also owns the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/rumor-is-pottermore-the-upcoming-harry-potter-mmo/"><em>Pottermore</em></a> trademark), it's not unreasonable to suspect that the sorting hat could be getting ready to assign a Potter MMO to House Turbine.<br />
<br />

The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/harry-potter/">Harry Potter</a> fan base was abuzz yesterday as <a href="http://www.pottermore.com/">a mysterious new website</a> was launched. The site itself is rather bare, merely sporting the words "Pottermore: Coming Soon" and J.K. Rowling's signature underneath, but there's reason to believe that this may be connected to an online game.<br />
<br />
It gets interesting when you look at <a href="http://www.trademarkia.com/pottermore-77788415.html">Pottermore's trademark page</a>, which lists the trademark as being owned by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/warner-bros/">Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.</a> and describes the product as follows:
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	<em><span id="ctl00_mainBody_lblGoodService">Providing multiple-user access to a global computer information network; providing on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among users in the field of general interest; providing on-line communications links which transfer the web site user to other local and global web pages; providing on-line facilities for real-time interaction with other computer users concerning topics of general interest</span>.</em></blockquote>
<a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/jun/16/harry-potter-jk-rowling-pottermore">The Guardian</a> notes that Pottermore could stand for "Potter Multiplayer Online Role-playing Experience," among other things. An editor at <a href="http://www.hpana.com/news.21283.html">HPANA</a> was one of the few to get a glimpse of the full site, commenting, <em>"It is breathtaking in scope, detail and sheer beauty."</em> Meanwhile, on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/JKRowlingAnnounces">YouTube's JKRowlingAnnounces channel</a>, a timer is counting down to an announcement as to why "the owls are gathering" sometime on the 23rd.<br />
<br />
Of course, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/the-perfect-ten-why-a-harry-potter-mmo-makes-sense/">a Harry Potter MMO</a> has been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/the-likelihood-of-a-matured-harry-potter-mmo/">heavily rumored</a> for some time now, perhaps in association with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/turbine/">Turbine</a> (which is owned by WB). It's a tenuous connection but a possibility as well, so we'll be keeping our eyes on the site to see what transpires!<br />
