Ready for <a href="http://startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online's</em></a> newest Featured Episode series? Well, ready or not, <a href="http://crypticstudios.com">Cryptic</a> is here to give us the skinny on <a href="http://startrekonline.com/feature_episodes">Series 3: Cloaked Intentions</a>. If you're wondering how <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online"><em>STO's</em></a> episodes work, it breaks down like this: Feature Episodes are tied together to form a single story arc. New episodes under each Feature banner take a bow on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. PST and are freely available to all <em>STO</em> players regardless of level.<br />
<br />
The new Cloaked Intentions arc involves a series of missions focused on the Romulan Empire; the overarching goal of participating players is the prevention of a bloody civil war. The intrigue kicks off today with Episode 1: The Vault, followed by episodes 2 - 5 every Saturday through March 5th.<br />
<br />
You can learn more at the official <em>STO</em> website, and don't forget to warp past the cut for the Cloaked Intentions trailer.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/05/cryptic-releases-new-star-trek-online-featured-episode/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cryptic releases new Star Trek Online Featured Episode</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/05/cryptic-releases-new-star-trek-online-featured-episode/">Cryptic releases new Star Trek Online Featured Episode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 05 Feb 2011 20:00:00 EST. Today marks the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/global-agenda-year-one-retrospective/">second straight day</a> that a sci-fi MMO is having a birthday, and <a href="http://startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> is the title in the spotlight. <a href="http://crypticstudios.com">Cryptic's</a> deep-space extravaganza is celebrating its first anniversary with a new Feature Episode series, discounted C-Store offers (including 20% off lifetime subcriptions), and various in-game events.<br />
<br />
Beginning today, members of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cryptic-studios">Cryptic's</a> dev team will be appearing in game to challenge players with trivia questions and give out exclusive rewards. The new episode series, sub-titled Cloaked Intentions, sees players tasked with preventing a civil war between factions of the Romulan Empire. The series spans five episodes, introduces a new ship type to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online"><em>STO</em></a>, and carries the game's storyline beyond the year 2409. The new content kicks off on February 5th.<br />
<br />
Finally, we've managed to beam a new anniversary retrospective video aboard the starship Massively, and you can check it out after the jump.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/02/star-trek-online-marks-first-anniversary-with-in-game-events-di/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Trek Online marks first anniversary with in-game events, discounts, and new Feature Episode</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/02/star-trek-online-marks-first-anniversary-with-in-game-events-di/">Star Trek Online marks first anniversary with in-game events, discounts, and new Feature Episode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 02 Feb 2011 11:00:00 EST. Open beta is here and launch isn't far behind, which is of course why we're starting to see stuff like the recently revealed faction page for <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a>. While you can't look (or click) on them now, it's quite telling that Cardassian and Romulan faction symbols are there for the looking. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic</a> has been pretty open with the fact that they plan to add new factions in the future, but the upfront listing of them causes us to wonder what the schedule is for the launch of faction number three.<br />
<br />
We really love the approach to this faction page, too. Why? Selecting a faction gives you the perspective of said faction, but from each side. That is to say, you get a Klingon's point of view of their own Empire, as well as the Federation. It's a nice touch of Trek that shows the men and women at Cryptic are keen to stick to the spirit of the series, even when outside of their own game. <br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/sto-website-adds-faction-page-hints-at-future-factions/">STO website adds faction page, hints at future factions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 12 Jan 2010 10:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2609988/full/">Five brand new</a> exclusive <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> screens. We know open beta is basically here and that screens are now significantly lower on many people's list of priority-one alerts, but this one is for the less fortunate ones. You know, the people with families and 40+ hour a week jobs.<br />
<br />
There's some <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2609992/full/">cool looking high-end armor</a> to ogle with your optical sensory orbs. Mayhaps you fancy yourself a gentleperson of the finer things in Trek? Well, in that case, we recommend the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2609991/full/">classic-ish connie style Enterprise</a>. What you can't have? What you can't have, is anything having to do with the show <em>Enterprise</em> or a man known by the name of Archer. We recently had the opportunity to ask <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic">Cryptic's</a> Jack Emmert a few questions regarding <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> and its PvP elements. With the looming open beta (tomorrow!) and similarly imminent February 2nd launch, we consider ourselves lucky to get some fairly definitive answers on topics like the game's Cryptic Store and the Klingon faction's future -- including if deeper customization is in the wings or not.<br />
<br />
It's a quick read, but with less than 24 hours until open beta kick starts, that's probably a good thing. We wouldn't want to take away from anyone's <em>Star Trek</em> movie marathon, which is obviously what everyone is doing the day before, right? Romulans! They're pretty prevalent in today's exclusive <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> screens, although they're not the only antagonists fighting against the Federation. You've got to remember <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2493539/full/">never to underestimate the Borg</a> in their ability to frustrate and terrify the Feddies into tossing up shields and blaring red alerts ship-wide. Plus, there's the Klingons, whose very name just sounds sharp and dangerous.<br />

We're getting off topic, though. If you like phasers, explosions and majestic <em>Trek</em> style space ships then we're certain you'll enjoy feasting your eyes on these five new screens.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/">Star Trek Online Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451212"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/01/slipping-through-space-majestic-in-five-new-star-trek-online-scr/">Slipping through space majestic in five new Star Trek Online screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 01 Dec 2009 12:00:00 EST. Today we bring you five more exclusive <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> screens, courtesy of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic">Cryptic Studios</a>. We hope you Romulan fans out there are paying attention, because <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2458358/full/">there's one new screen in particular</a> we think you'll find quite... satisfying. Although, as you can see from the image above, there's a little extra Romulan love.<br />
<br />
We find ourselves wanting to express concern for this lone Connie class vessel attempting to take on a Borg cube. That's just dangerous! We're fairly certain such encounters in the game proper will consist of a substantial grouping of players -- we're sure those screens will be quite something, actually.<br />
<br />
The fact that many of these screens depict space combat is adventitious indeed, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/16/massivelys-star-trek-online-community-qanda-space-combat/">our current Community Q&amp;A for <em>Star Trek Online</em></a> concerns the very topic. We'll be taking questions for Cryptic developers until the end of today, Tuesday, November 17th -- so get 'em in while the asking is good.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/">Star Trek Online Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451212"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/plasma-and-romulans-in-these-five-new-exclusive-sto-screens/">Plasma and Romulans in these five new exclusive STO screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 10:00:00 EST. Romulan and Klingon love anyone? That's what you'll find in our five exclusive <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> screens, one of which you can see above in all its sleek sexy glory.<br />
<br />
If space isn't your thing -- although if that's the case, you may want to reconsider your interest in space MMOs -- <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic</a> is showing off <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2412699/full/">this view of a tropical environment</a> that's making us long for warmer weather. Although, we're much more interested in shots that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2412701/full/">feature the glory of the Klingon Empire</a>. Well, okay maybe that last one wasn't exactly glorious insomuch that nobody was being blown up. Let's just pretend that all the rubble was the remains of a powerful enemy brought to its knees... yeah.<br />
<br />

Everyone has their favorite ship designs in Star Trek. Some people can't get enough Klingon ships, while others are all about the Federation. Today however, is a good day for Romulan fans, as two new screens <a href="http://startrekonline.com/node/255">featuring the species' ships</a> are available for ogling and general drooling-over.<br /><br />It must be admitted, the sleek sexy curves of these two ships are most... fascinating. It's almost enough to make a person forget the beauty of some of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/1423967/full/">the more advanced Federation vessels</a>. Not that we would, of course. Our dedication to the Federation is... uh, well okay we'd probably fly one of these without a second thought if the opportunity presented itself.<br /><br />What's even more beautiful than the ships, perhaps, is the space they're flying through. It can't be easy to consistently awe inspiring space vistas, but the people working on this game seem to keep churning them out time and time again. Hopefully we'll get to see some of it in motion sometime in the future.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/">Star Trek Online Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451212"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/20/romulan-ships-in-the-latest-star-trek-online-screens/">Romulan ships in the latest Star Trek Online screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 20 May 2009 11:00:00 EST. In recent memory the Cryptic crew has given us a lot of <em><a href="http://www.startrekonline.com">Star Trek Online</a></em> goodness to chew on. There was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/25/first-starfleet-ship-detailed-for-star-trek-online/">the unveil of the NX-91001</a>, an advanced exploration craft in the Federation fleet. There was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/24/take-a-video-tour-of-cryptic-studios/">the tour of the studio</a>, you might remember, or even the news that the game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/cryptic-may-be-porting-champions-star-trek-online-to-the-ps3/">might be coming to the PlayStation 3</a>. One of their other recent features was entitled 'The Road to 2409', and began the process of moving prospective players <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/star-trek-online-timeline-update-covers-the-year-2382/">through the future history of the Star Trek universe</a>. The time after the show Deep Space Nine and the movie Nemesis is completely untouched by official media, so we as Trek fans need all the help we can acclimating to that big jump in time.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/timeline/2384">Their newest feature brings us to the year 2384</a>, a stardate still bearing many familiar faces and names for long-time Trek fans. The bulk of the article concerns upheaval in the Romulan Empire, with political changes still echoing through that body in the wake of the final Next Generation movie. Meanwhile, across the galaxy, the Klingon Empire faces new threats from an old border. Old familiar names from DS9 (Odo, the planet Bajor) are mentioned in passing, and the Federation as always is involved throughout the Alpha Quadrant. <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/timeline/2384">Read the full article for details</a> and to make the timeline jump to the year 2384!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/">Star Trek Online Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451212"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/02/star-trek-online-timeline-advances-to-stardate-2384/">Star Trek Online timeline advances to stardate 2384</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 02 Jan 2009 11:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic</a> has updated <a href="http://startrekonline.com/timeline/2382">the <span style="font-style: italic;">Star Trek Online</span> timeline</a> that leads up to when the game takes place. Just to refresh everyone's memory, Star Trek Online is set in the year 2409, which is thirty years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. The newest update on the official website covers the events of the year 2382, or 27 years prior to the game.<br /><br />The biggest part of this updates deals with the <a href="http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Romulan">Romulans</a> (biological cousins to the Vulcans) who are heading down a path to civil war, as political in-fighting continues to grow. Meanwhile the Unification movement, represented by Ambassador Spock, once again attempts to push their agenda by seeking the support of the <a href="http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/United_Federation_of_Planets">Federation</a> Council. Ultimately though, the Federation declines to support the movement to unify the two races, as the Vulcan members of the council aren't too keen on such an uncertain and essentially illogical idea.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/">Star Trek Online Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451212"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/star-trek-online-timeline-update-covers-the-year-2382/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Trek Online timeline update covers the year 2382</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/star-trek-online-timeline-update-covers-the-year-2382/">Star Trek Online timeline update covers the year 2382</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 09:00:00 EST.
