	We know you're all busy, <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> fans, but try to pry your eyes away from the shiny new game for just a minute because it's time for the final Choose Your Side video. This time, the match-up is between the wily, conniving Smuggler and the vicious, rage-driven Sith Warrior.<br />
	<br />
	So who will emerge the victor and who will be left eating the pavement? That's ultimately for you to decide, but if you'd like a little bit of help formulating your argument, just give the video a look and see what the game's developers have to say. All you have to do is click on past the cut.</div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/16/star-wars-the-old-republics-smuggler-and-sith-warrior-fight-it/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's Smuggler and Sith Warrior fight it out</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/16/star-wars-the-old-republics-smuggler-and-sith-warrior-fight-it/">Star Wars: The Old Republic's Smuggler and Sith Warrior fight it out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 17:30:00 EST. The second of the four-part <a href="http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/choose-your-side-inquisitor-vs-trooper">Choose Your Side</a> video series has been released over at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>, and this time it creates a hypothetical showdown between the Republic's Trooper and the Empire's Inquisitor. In it, four <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware/">BioWare</a> devs jaw about who would win in a fight and what each of these classes has going for it. These videos are proving to be a great way to get a better feel for classes' strengths and weaknesses, particularly in a PvP setting.<br />
<br />
On one hand, the Trooper is said to have an advantage in terms of health, armor and range, with plenty of tricks to keep the Inquisitor at bay and, er, dead. On the other hand, the Inquisitor's Force powers and double-bladed lightsaber may make for a completely unfair fight against the Force-less Trooper.<br />
<br />
The devs reveal a few tidbits about the two classes' philosophy while they're calmly laying out the smack talk. The Trooper comes off as a "shoot first and ask questions later" type of character, while the Inquisitor is portrayed as a mastermind pulling the strings from behind the stage.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/LucasArts/">LucasArts</a> have said since the first announcement of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> that choices will matter. No one witnessed that more than visitors to the BioWare booth at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sdcc-2011/">San Diego Comic-Con</a>. These fans had to choose between saving the engineering crew or saving the bridge crew in the Flashpoint called The Esseles.<br />
<br />
In this fast-paced instance, you and your party are trapped aboard the Republic cruiser called the Esseles. Like Darth Vader asking for the ambassador on board the Corellian Corvette at the beginning of A New Hope, the commander of an Imperial Star Destroyer in <em>this</em> Flashpoint is also seeking a Republic ambassador. The difference here is the Imperial forces haven't boarded yet. It is your job to hold them off.<br />
<br />
After the break, catch the full 13-and-a-half-minute walkthrough narrated by Director of Production <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dallas-dickinson/">Dallas Dickinson</a>, sans epic beard unfortunately.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/29/swtor-walks-us-through-the-flashpoint-esseles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SWTOR walks us through the Flashpoint 'Esseles'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/29/swtor-walks-us-through-the-flashpoint-esseles/">SWTOR walks us through the Flashpoint 'Esseles'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 13:00:00 EST. On Friday, our friends on the <a href="http://bioware.com">BioWare</a> community team gave us <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/01/star-wars-the-old-republic-reintroduces-the-bounty-hunter-progr/">a second progression video</a> for the Bounty Hunter in <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>. As with anything on the internet, the video wasn't above scrutiny and complaint by followers. The complaints ranged from "we already have a Bounty Hunter progression video" to "why don't we have a Jedi Consular video yet?" But that doesn't hit on the real issue: There were no fiery explosions for the Bounty Hunter to walk away from in slow motion! He just can't be cool unless he turns his back on the destruction like he just doesn't frelling care.<br />
<br />
Despite the lack of carnage in the class progression video, we did glean insight into many of the class powers, some of which mirror its Republic counterpart: the Trooper. I know for marketing reasons and to keep from confusing the potential player, it's not a good idea to use the word "mirror" when describing <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>The Old Republic</em></a> classes. But it's hard to deny that the Imperial Bounty Hunter and the Republic Trooper are very much mirrored insofar as combat roles and abilities. After the break, I will explain to you what I see that is the same and what is different between the two classes. Then, in the end, I will let you decide whether the classes are truly mirrored or not.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/05/hyperspace-beacon-man-in-the-mirror/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: Man in the mirror</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/05/hyperspace-beacon-man-in-the-mirror/">Hyperspace Beacon: Man in the mirror</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 05 Jul 2011 16:30:00 EST. While <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/hoth">Hoth</a> may take the spotlight whenever someone wants to interview a winter-bound planet in the Star Wars universe, the scrappy planet of <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/ilum">Ilum</a> is out to make a name for itself. <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's</em></a> <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20101008">16th announced planet</a> is a remote ball of ice that just so happens to be a major source of lightsaber crystals. Ilum used to be owned by the Republic, but the Sith have since made great headway in conquering the planet and hogging all of those saber-licious crystals all to themselves. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare's</a> also hinted at a mystery that goes well beyond a mere resource grab.<br />
<br />
Although we hate to invoke Hoth in comparison, if you liked the Rebel's base in <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080684/">The Empire Strikes Back</a>, then you're going to feel right at home in Ilum's ice-and-crystal outposts. <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/corellia">Corellia</a>, the primary planet of the Five Brothers in the Corellian system, has just been announced as the next planet for you to explore in <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>. Who doesn't know <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Han_solo">Han Solo</a>? This famous smuggler will be born on this pivotal planet in some 3,500 years after the in events in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>SWTOR</em></a>, but that does not stop this luscious world from being an important spot in <em>The Old Republic</em>.<br />
<br />
Corellia is an apex of trade, so its political influence is vast and powerful. Although the citizens adore their independence, the planetary loyalty has never been in question. So, when Corellia's communications were suddenly cut off from the rest of the Republic, the whole galaxy was in shock. The few holo-vids which have been extracted from the planet show extensive terrorist acts and destruction across the planet. We can only assume this is an attack from the Sith Empire. Wasn't the <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Treaty_of_Coruscant">Treaty</a> supposed to protect this planet from such issues?<br />
<br />
Stay tuned here at Massively for more updates on this senseless violence.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/swtors-15th-announced-planet-corellia/">SWTOR's 15th announced planet: Corellia</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/swtors-15th-announced-planet-corellia/#3351208"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/09/corellia-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/swtors-15th-announced-planet-corellia/#3351209"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/09/corellia-08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/swtors-15th-announced-planet-corellia/#3351210"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/09/corellia-07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/swtors-15th-announced-planet-corellia/#3351211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/09/corellia-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/swtors-15th-announced-planet-corellia/#3351215"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/09/corellia-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/10/swtor-announces-han-solos-future-home-as-a-playable-planet/">SWTOR announces Han Solo's future home as a playable planet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 10 Sep 2010 19:30:00 EST. Sometimes it feels as though the Sith and Jedi get boiled down to two primary emotions: scowly and smug. It kind of makes it hard to root for one side or the other when that's all there is. Happily, Team BioWare's decided to graduate past these stereotypes as they flesh out the complex leaders in the struggle for intergalactic domination.<br />
<br />
Three new biographies have been posted on <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>The Old Republic's</em></a> website, representing the three main factions of the game: <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/biographies/darth-malgus">Darth Malgus</a> for the Sith, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/biographies/mandalore">Mandalore</a> for the Independents, and <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/biographies/general-garza">General Garza</a> for the Republic. You may remember Darth Malgus as the seething bad guy from the Deceived trailer, and it turns out that he's now the star of his own book as well: <a href="http://www.starwars.com/vault/books/swtor_deceived/index.html">Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived</a>. The novel -- which just received <a href="http://www.starwars.com/vault/books/swtor_deceived/index.html">a first look over at StarWars.com</a> -- promises to reveal insights into just why Malgus led the assault to sack the Jedi temple on Coruscant.<br />
<br />
More exciting than these biographies are the introduction of a brand-new section of <em>TOR's</em> Holonet: <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants">Inhabitants</a>! This page covers droids, creatures and humanoids that players will encounter on a regular basis in the game, and currently has six records to choose from: the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants/gundark">Gundark</a>, the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants/ar-34-enforcer-droid-aka-%E2%80%9Cbackbreaker%E2%80%9D">AR-34 Enforcer Droid</a>, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants/gormak">Gormak</a>, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants/trandoshan">Trandoshan</a>, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants/salky-hound">Salky Hounds</a>, and the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants/x2-c3-imperial-astromech">X2-C3 Imperial Astromech</a>. Each of the records is accompanied by a description and a trio of screen shots to enjoy.<br />
<br />
It's a lot to absorb in one sitting, so head on over to The Old Republic to check out these new <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/biographies">Biographies</a> and <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants">Inhabitants</a>!<br />

The big announcement out of <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> came ahead of time this week, with the release of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/22/star-wars-the-old-republic-drops-a-surprise-video-documentary/">a surprise video documentary</a> detailing combat. On the other hand, the game isn't only about combat. Having completed the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20100423_001-0"><em>Threat of Peace</em></a> storyline in comic form, the site has launched a new comic to continue exploring the game's lore in more personal terms. <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20100423_001"><em>Blood of the Empire</em></a> has gone live, taking the exact opposite approach to the prior comic by focusing on a young Sith during the conquest of Republic worlds for the growing empire.<br />
<br />
True to form, the comic presents the Sith in the most straightforward fashion possible, leaving plenty of room for the moral ambiguity that classically defines <a href="http://www.bioware.com">BioWare</a>'s games. If that doesn't quite grab your fancy, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20100423_002">the team's fan roundup has gone live</a>, along with new concept art and a short trailer for the game. The former shows off some of the technology designs at work, while the latter highlights environmental effects from sparking generators to rippling water. It's a somewhat more contemplative look at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars--The-Old-Republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> compared to non-stop lightsabers and laser blasts, and it might prove a welcome contrast after the earlier announcements<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/25/environmental-effects-and-new-comics-for-star-wars-the-old-repu/">Environmental effects and new comics for Star Wars: The Old Republic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 25 Apr 2010 12:00:00 EST. The looks we've gotten inside the planets of <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> paint a number of different pictures, but for most of them the conflict is fairly cut-and-dry. There are objectives for Imperial Sith forces or the Republic, but there haven't been things that are external to both forces. But <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/voss">Voss</a>, the latest world revealed, is a bit different. There is already an intelligent species living there, and they face utter annhilation even as both the Empire and the Republic try to curry their favor.<br />
<br />
The eponymous Voss are isolated against the other natives, the Gormaks, and have been fighting a long and losing war in which Gormak assaults have all but destroyed them. But the reclusive Voss are powerful natural <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Force">Force</a> users, an asset to either major galactic power. Both are trying to gain the allegiance of these potentially powerful allies, even as they stare one another down. <br />
<br />
The possibility for diverse adventures are obvious -- do you try and talk the Voss into helping your faction? Wipe out the Gormak? Attack your enemies when they're distracted? Ensure that if you don't get the aid of the Voss, no one does? <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/voss">The full reveal</a> talks more about what looks poised to be a divisive part of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars--The-Old-Republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>, whatever path you would take.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/star-wars-the-old-republic-reveals-voss/">Star Wars: The Old Republic reveals Voss</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 19:00:00 EST. Fans of <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> are most likely veterans of <a href="http://www.bioware.com/games/knights_old_republic/"><em>Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic</em></a>, for reasons that should be immediately obvious. So the announcement of <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/taris">Taris</a> on the official site is no doubt going to bring back some warm feelings of nostalgia... or irritation at the planet that you had to spend roughly seven years on to find Bastilla. Maybe a little of both.<br />
<br />
Of course, by the same token players might remember that Taris didn't exactly make it through the end of the game intact. Being leveled by an orbital bombardment left the planet a smoldering ruin for the rest of that game, and according to the planet's official dossier, the better part of three hundred years. The Republic is attempting to re-colonize the planet in a show of defiance against the Sith, but they're <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/planets/taris">running into a few problems</a>.<br />
<br />
The rakghouls and plagues that marked the planet's lowest sectors remain amidst the ruins, along with the Sith attempting to block the Republic from the obvious symbolic victory of retaking the world. We're still a year out from <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em>, but with a few of the sites we can look forward to visiting, some players might feel as if they've never left.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/13/taris-announced-for-star-wars-the-old-republic/">Taris announced for Star Wars: The Old Republic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 13 Feb 2010 11:00:00 EST. And so the plot thickens, as the identity of the man attempting to dissolve the peace treaty between the Republic and the Empire is now closer to being revealed. Yes, this week <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> <a href="http://www.swtor.com/media/webcomic/act3?comicpage=4">continues their free online comic</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/threat-of-peace">Threat of Peace</a> with issue number 20, which largely focuses on the Bounty Hunter known as Braden.<br />
<br />
The developer's propensity for seeding hints at future in-game content through this series continues, and in that statement we mean to say <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nar_Shadda">Nar Shadda</a> is most likely going to be a playable planet in <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>. We also wouldn't be surprised to see <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dantooine">Dantooine</a> become an in-game destination as well, since it's both a classic location and apparently the future site of some intrigue for Threat of Peace readers.<br />
<br />
We suppose it'd be easy enough to assume most planets featured from the movies and previous <em>KOTOR</em> games will end up in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>. Nonetheless, it's fun to play the guessing game when it comes to a highly anticipated MMO. We're hoping the next official planet announcement goes to Nar Shadda, as it's just such a <em>lovely</em> place to visit.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/everybody-loves-a-good-cantina-fight-in-threat-of-peace-issue/">Everybody loves a good cantina fight in Threat of Peace, issue #20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 20 Nov 2009 23:00:00 EST. Looking at the official <em><a href="http://www.swtor.com">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> class page reveals four slots on both factions, with three total filled thus far. Of course, you'll notice that Jedi and Sith aren't shown here, but it's a forgone conclusion that they'll be filled sooner or later. While nobody but <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> can be sure what the final classes actually, half the fun is trying to figure them out before they're announced.<br /><br />So with that said, it's time to take a few educated guess stabs at potential classes, and formulate our wish lists. I'm sure you've all got ones of your own as well, so feel free to share!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/30/what-are-swtors-three-final-classes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>What are SWTOR's three final classes?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/30/what-are-swtors-three-final-classes/">What are SWTOR's three final classes?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 30 Jul 2009 15:00:00 EST. One of the most common questions asked regarding <em><a href="http://www.swtor.com">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> and the easily accessible Jedi is, <em>"Who's going to take on an army of Jedi?"</em> We've long since <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/the-digital-continuum-five-kotor-mmo-jedi-counter-measures/">had the answer tucked away here at Massively</a>, but now <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> has been kind enough to illustrate it for us <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/timeline/return-mandalorians">in their latest timeline update,</a> which features the fearsome Mandalorians.<br /><br />The nomadic Mandalorians are strikingly unique and much like the Jedi and Sith in that sense they're not an actual species; yet war is their singular goal in life. Their mantra is that strength is not merely good, it is great, it brings honor through battle. Thus, it's no surprise that Mandalorians are generally opposed to the Jedi and get along better with the power hungry Sith. At this point, the Republic Trooper's coutnerpart is pretty obvious. That powerful Jedi army doesn't seem so intimidating against legions of Sith, Bounty Hunters and bred-for-war Mandies, now does it?<br /><br />We highly recommend you check out the timeline video. It's not only informative, but quite entertaining if you've got even the slightest amount of interest in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/mandalorians-smack-down-the-jedi-in-swtors-new-timeline-update/">Mandalorians smack down the Jedi in SWTOR's new timeline update</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 17:00:00 EST. The Sith weren't expecting the Galactic Republic to find assistance with that particular criminal aspect, but find it they did -- and you can learn all about it through <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20090515_001">the latest <em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em> timeline update</a>.<br /><br />Of course, if this second update doesn't just scream, "Smuggler class!" then we're not sure you were paying close enough attention. Then again, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> could just be trying to throw us off the trail by making the Smugglers such an obvious component to the back story. The problem is that, either way, you really cany have Star Wars without these guys somewhere in the story. Who knows, maybe they'll be called Scoundrels instead?<br /><br />And of course there's the possibility that <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Mandalorian">Mandalorians</a> will be featured as an Empire class, or at least the new update seems to loosely imply as much. Either way, we should expect some kind of shady character <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/gun-toting-trooper-class-revealed-for-the-old-republic/">classes to be announced</a> sometime in the near future.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/17/hints-of-the-smuggler-class-in-new-swtor-timeline-update/">Hints of the Smuggler class in new SWTOR timeline update</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 17 May 2009 16:00:00 EST. The Sith have strange ways about them; strange but effective means of getting exactly what they want. This is why when Coruscant came under siege by the Sith Empire just as they were beginning peace talks with the Galactic Republic, we had a feeling there was an deeper motive beneath the obvious. It all becomes clear <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20090410_002">in this week's issue number four</a> of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare's</a> <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> webcomic, Threat of Peace.<br /><br />Beyond here things should only get more interesting. We're hoping for a timeline update next week along with issue five, because at four pages a pop the cliffhangers can sometimes be a real pain in our geeky butts.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/11/threat-of-peace-issue-4-need-we-say-more/">Threat of Peace issue #4, need we say more?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 11 Apr 2009 20:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> has revealed Ord Mantell as <em><a href="http://www.swtor.com">Star Wars: The Old Republic's</a></em> newest planet via a flurry of <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20090410_001">screenshots, concept art</a> and even a new wallpaper. It reminds us a lot of Dantooine from the original <em>KOTOR</em> game, but with a little more going on than a Jedi Academy and tons of grass.<br /><br />Don't get us wrong because we enjoyed or original stay in Dantooine, but <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/story/ord-mantell">reading the lore piece on Ord Mantell</a> is causing a noticeable unnatural buildup of saliva. Embroiled in a ruthless civil war? Mountainous plains and volcanic islands? A corrupt government? These are all the makings of a wonderfully fun adventure for any player of either faction.<br /><br />We're mostly excited about the ongoing battle between the Republic loyal old government and separatists looking for independence. As the marauders, Nar Shaddaa black market tech and elite Republic forces are all likely to be converging just as we -- and you -- arrive on the planet once <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> launches sometime in the hopefully not-too-distant future.<div We <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/20/old-republics-bounty-hunter-class-detailed-with-screens-art-an/">know about the basics of the Bounty Hunter</a> class in <em><a href="http://www.swtor.com" style="">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em>, but not the finer details of the how and why. That's where <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware" style="">BioWare's</a></em> first <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/bwblog/20090403_001">developer blog on classes</a> comes into the picture. The focus of the piece is to explain the reasoning behind choices made concerning the Bounty Hunter, and in its mission to do so a little bit more of the game is revealed.<br /><br />For instance, since each class will have its own story and both the Republic and Sith Empire are to have different quest experiences entirely, a character class will only exist on one side. This means that Bounty Hunters are Sith Empire only -- so we hope those who're planning on rolling this class aren't too set on being on printing business cards with "The Republic" on them.<br /><br />What excites us most is the bevy of choices BioWare is attempting to make available to players. <em>"Does your honor come from getting the job done or being a good person? Is your loyalty to your crew, your conscience or your credits?"</em> It's questions like these that perk the ears on our heads. And our hope is that delivery will be made so that our precious time can be ticked away on a galactic battle between forces of good and evil.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/bounty-hunter-is-sith-empire-only-and-full-of-choices-in-latest/">Bounty Hunter is Sith Empire only and full of choices in latest BioWare dev blog</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 09:00:00 EST. The second video documentary from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> focuses heavily on how <em><a href="http://www.swtor.com">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> is approaching story. While that may sound like retreading old ground -- and a little of it is -- there's actually <a href="http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/video-documentary-2">some very new information held within the video</a>.<br /><br />The biggest of which is the official acknowledgment of the Bounty Hunter class who, according to BioWare, will have "his own movie trilogy" story told to players in the shape of enormous quest lines. And this is in addition to the game's overall story, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/the-old-republic-launches-first-issue-of-dark-horse-webcomic/">which puts the amount of story in this game</a> well over a metric ton.<br /><br />Additionally, we learn that the so-called peace treaty between the Republic and Sith Empire is really more of an agreement to avoid all out war. Or in other words, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/examining-a-new-threat-for-the-old-republic/">players of light and dark side</a> will be facing off against each other in plenty of skirmishes throughout the entire game. The news isn't that surprising, especially considering an MMO's got to have its conflict play -- or PvP play, if you like.<br /><br />Check out the video after the cut.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/15/bounty-hunter-class-revealed-in-second-the-old-republic-video-do/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bounty Hunter class revealed in second The Old Republic video documentary</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/15/bounty-hunter-class-revealed-in-second-the-old-republic-video-do/">Bounty Hunter class revealed in second The Old Republic video documentary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 15 Mar 2009 12:00:00 EST. The hotly anticipated MMO <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> <em>(SWTOR)</em> from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare</a> has only just been announced, but they've already given us a clear picture of the game's setting and <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/story/setting">a bit of the lore as well.</a> From what we can tell, you won't need to be a die-hard fan of Star Wars to appreciate the title, which is good news as there's a daunting amount of Star Wars canon out there. That said, it'll certainly help to have at least some grounding in what's going on in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/ ">Star Wars: The Old Republic.</a></em> To that end, Massively's put together a brief primer on the lore of <em>SWTOR.</em><br /><br />Who is this written for? People who've seen the films but may not necessarily have played <em>Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR)</em> on PC or console, and especially those who haven't read the novels or various comic book lines released over the years. Read on, and we'll introduce you to the backdrop and factions of <em>Star Wars: The Old Republic.</em><br /><br />
