RaiderZ Broken Silence screenshot
I have to admit, I felt a combination of excitement and fear when I was tasked with covering the newest RaiderZ expansion, Broken Silence, because I knew that I would be challenged in a few ways. First, I had to get used to the game again. I've played it off and on and have enjoyed it until around level 10, but I am no expert. I had already experienced the fantastic non-instanced combat that the game is known for, but I still had a long way to go. Second, I knew that the game would physically punish me. After years of playing games, painting, and drawing, I can easily be forced to soak my forearms in icy water after a session of action-based gaming. Lastly, I knew I would be given a higher-level character and needed to get used to how that particular character performed. The brilliant thing about action-based games is that the person behind the keyboard matters as much as amazing armor or incredible spells. I'd have to sharpen up.

I logged into my character and discovered just how fun this game still is.

It's definitely not a new thing. Throughout the ages, when intense frustration strikes, a colorful epithet can slip past the lips of even the most soft-spoken. Heck, at particularly annoying times, a full string of them has been known fly forth from the most unexpected sources. And we all know that there are plenty of frustration-inducing situations in gaming. So it's not hard to equate swearing with gaming, right?

Of course, we at Massively TV advocate a responsible use of language during our adventures. While there could be a time or a place for the universally known curses, we prefer bursts of creative language skills. And if there's one thing The Stream Team has, it's an abundance of creativity! We've learned it is possible to express frustration while avoiding the censors because censors are mean and carry big, painful sticks! Ouch.

RaiderZ launches Broken Silence expansion
The first expansion for RaiderZ, Broken Silence, is now available for players to tackle and conquer. The region of Cowen Marsh should be the first stop for players looking to see fresh sights in the world.

Senior Producer Mark Hill is jolly well thrilled as one might expect: "We are excited to bring our first RaiderZ expansion to our devoted players. We hope players will enjoy the new content and we are looking forward to adding even more in the future."

The expansion raises the level cap to 40, while adding new areas, bosses, and gear. Players will see an improved matchmaking system in Broken Silence, as well as a battle "Wave System" and a PvP arena.

Though infrequent, it does happen: Once in a while two holidays go toe to toe on the calendar. This year, it just so happens that April Fools' Day rides in on the tail of the Easter Bunny. Of course, that's pretty much the answer to everything, isn't it?

Some day these two holidays might actually overlap. Perfect World Entertainment's free-to-play hack-and-slash title RaiderZ is about to get a bit bigger. Today, the developers announced the game's first expansion, titled Broken Silence. The expansion is promised to add "a wealth of new content, including an increased level cap of 40, new zones, an updated PvP battle arena system, new epic monsters to conquer piece-by-piece, and much more." Whew, that was a mouthful, but it sounds as if RaiderZ players will have plenty to look forward to.

RaiderZ's senior producer Mark Hill states that in the expansion, "the Grand Wall of Silence has fallen [and] the Kingdom of Rendel and its citizens face a new threat from the north," and adds that players can "expect more info very soon." So in the interim, how about some shiny pictures? Everyone loves shiny pictures. Celebrate Christmas with RaiderZ event trailer
The official holiday with stockings and gifts nestled under a tree may be over out here in the real world, but the Christmas celebration is continuing in RaiderZ's Kingdom of Rendel. Players can participate in plenty of additional festivities through January 2nd, 2013, including a special quest to hunt the Ice Queen and collecting Christmas cards to exchange for assorted winter gear. Video game character wonders why cruel gods always choose to continue.
Be honest with yourself -- have you asked many questions about the monsters in RaiderZ? Probably not. You've gone out and done what you need to do, which in this game is usually kill them until there's nothing left but ash and a new pile of loot in your backpack. But they've got feelings too, feelings that are explored in the latest video covering the unbearable agony of being a boss. Specifically, a giant demon.

At first glance, it seems like a good ride. You're huge, you're powerful, and you get to stomp a lot of unprepared players into paste. But then you realize that no matter how awesome you are, sooner or later it's going to come time to experience another round of getting your head chopped off in the hopes that you'll drop a sword. Take a look at the full video to feel at least marginally bad about downing bosses over and over... until you log in again, at least.

Massively Exclusive RaiderZ announces launch with new screens and a video
Since the beta doors opened on October 24th, more folks have been checking out the action of RaiderZ, banding together to engage massive bosses and even using mobs' own limbs as weapons against them. But if you were waiting for launch to jump in and experience the free-form class system and monster transformation ability for yourself, get ready: Perfect World Entertainment has just announced that the free-to-play game will launch on November 20th.

Senior Producer Mark Hill noted that launch was just the beginning. He stated, "We'd like to thank fans for their continued support and also welcome new players to explore the Kingdom of Rendel. This is just the first part of our commitment to provide players with a great experience for years to come."

RaiderZ takes us down into the depths of the Rietz municipal sewage system

While RaiderZ shoots through the rapids of open beta on its way to the waterfall of launch, Perfect World is evangelizing this title to any and all who will hear the message of an action MMO with memorable monsters. Today the company is reading from the Book of Dungeons, Chapter Six: the Rietz Sewer.

The sewer is a high-level instance that challenges players to wade through colorful waste and dispatch all of the forgotten pets that were flushed a long, long time ago. OK, we have no idea how those monsters got down there, but they're big and in need of culling.

The other night as I was perusing the interwebs for new and interesting things on which to waste my time, I was struck with a craving. I suddenly found myself wanting to get my hands on a good ol'-fashioned hack-and-slash, preferably of the massively multiplayer variety. As I wracked my brain for a game that would satiate my hunger, I remembered RaiderZ. I had a bit of time at PAX Prime to fiddle around with the game between appointments, and I thought it could be just the thing I was looking for.

As luck would have it, Perfect World Entertainment was selling RaiderZ founders' packs for the low low price of 30 bucks, and since I have all the impulse control of a gnat I decided to go ahead and pick one up so I could jump into the game's head start. Since then, I've logged something to the tune of 15 to 20-ish hours bashing in the skulls of a variety of nasty creatures, and I've got a few things to say. If you've got nothing better to do, how about jumping past the cut and listening to me rant?

Your little anime getup is seriously misrepresenting the genre here.
The time has finally come to pass. If you've been unable to get into any of the closed beta events for RaiderZ, you can finally just hop on over and start playing the game, as the open beta is now on. That means a whole lot of slashing up enormous monsters, but it also means some features that will be new even to veterans of the closed beta.

But perhaps you're not swayed by that. You aren't convinced to play a game simply by knowing that you can chop up monsters; no, you want to see screenshots of the monsters in mid-chopped status to woo you. If that's the case, you can take a look down below, where our gallery for the game is now hosting 18 new screenshots that display a variety of monsters, chopping, and everything in between. If you're already in the game... well, still, new screenshots. And nice ones!

RaiderZ gears up for open beta with new video and screenshots
Are you getting excited for the open beta of RaiderZ on October 24th? If so, you might be even more excited to see some new screenshots and a new video trailer for the game. This new media highlights the city of Rietz, considered the Jewel of the Kingdom of Rendel. The high-level haven might look beautiful on the outside, but it houses some horrible creatures in the underground sewers.

RaiderZ stress test kicks off today
While the open beta for RaiderZ has yet to grace our fair computers, you can still get in and give this action MMO a try today. Perfect World Entertainment announced that it's running a stress test for the title this weekend, and everyone with a PWE account is invited to come play.

The stress test begins tonight at 7:00 p.m. EDT and continues through Monday the 15th at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The company is encouraging players to crush the server so as to make it more stable come launch. It also is promising special awards and fun events over the course of the weekend.

Following the stress test, RaiderZ heads into open beta on October 24th. The studio is pushing for players to plunk down a few bucks to secure a Founder's Pack. The deal includes an exclusive mount and closed beta access to Cryptic's Neverwinter.

RaiderZ video and screenshot show off goblin village of Rengot
The countdown is on -- RaiderZ' open beta starts in just a few weeks on October 24th. To give players another taste of what they can look forward to, Perfect World Entertainment released a video and some screenshots highlighting Rengot Village.

Home to the infamous Rengot goblin tribe since the goblins' loss in the war against the humans and their subsequent banishment, this village hides the mind-controlled golem abominations. Could we have one zone overrun with cuddly kittens or something? Just for variety?
The RaiderZ preview train continues onward, this time taking a look at the snow-covered Mt. Eda just past Hero's Lane. Mt. Eda used to be a place of peace and serenity, but in the game's timeline, it's become the site of an ersatz turf war between tribes of trolls and ogres. That means a lot of trolls and ogres to fight in a lot of ancient ruins... and that's not actually the worst part of what players will be dealing with.

Players can warm themselves up for the mountain's challenges with PvP matches on the slopes. That practice will hopefully prepare them for fighting the giant yeti near the mountain's peak. Or they can try to go through the tunnels beneath the mountain... tunnels infested with diabolical tribes and huge colonies of marauding insects. RaiderZ open beta announced, Founder's Pack includes Neverwinter beta access
Fans eager to get a taste of the upcoming fantasy free-to-play MMO RaiderZ will have the chance to come next month. Perfect World Entertainment announced that the open beta will begin October 24th, 2012.

The studio also announced that Founder's Packs go on sale starting today. Players can choose between an elite pack and a basic for rewards such as scrolls, potions, and even a mount. The elite pack also includes guaranteed access to the closed beta for Cryptic Studios' upcoming D&D MMO Neverwinter. For a full listing of the items included in the Founder's Pack, visit the official site.

This really isn't the sort of graveyard where you leave flowers on headstones.
The whirlwind tour of the world of Rendel continues with the latest zone preview for RaiderZ. Today's video shows off the region known as Hero's Lane, a lovely location for a leisurely stroll that's filled with aging graveyards and expansive gardens. Of course, since this is RaiderZ, your definition of a leisurely stroll will need to include hordes of undead, carnivorous plants, and demonic forces working all around you.

Beneath the expansive graveyard filled with the undead lie the Catacombs of the Damned, which is absolutely lousy with undead minions and demonic cultists (as the name might imply). Stopping to smell the roses instead might be a bad idea, as the aforementioned expansive garden is home to the Master of the Garden, a plant that's far more dangerous than any photosynthesizing creature ought to be. PAX Prime 2012 Perfect World screens Neverwinter and RaiderZ trailers
Perfect World Entertainment is giving the red carpet treatment to up-and-comers Neverwinter and RaiderZ at PAX Prime this weekend. The company has released two new trailers to show off during the convention alongside of demo stations at its booth.

RaiderZ's trailer shows off several places and creatures from the game in an upbeat montage, while Neverwinter's takes us to Blackdagger Keep, where an undead pirate holds a grudge against those pesky living souls.

Both titles will be present at PAX in Perfect World's booth (#3603). Going or not, you can check out the exciting trailers after the jump.

RaiderZ opens Ingen Free Port for business
Perfect World is cranking up the PR machine leading into this weekend's Penny Arcade Expo. While we got a look at RaiderZ's Broken Mast zone yesterday, today we're treated to a visit to Ingen Free Port.

Ingen Free Port is supposedly a "safe harbor" for visitors, offering an array of services and vendors to heroes looking for a respite from non-stop combat. Senior Producer Mark Hill says that it's important for the company to show the quieter side of the game world: "The kingdom of Rendel and its many bustling cities, like Ingen Free Port, is key to bringing the world of RaiderZ truly to life."

Perfect World will be promoting RaiderZ at PAX Prime, but you don't have to wait until then to see Ingen Free Port. We've got the full flythrough after the jump.

We get it. Pirates. Always pirates.
Every character needs to start somewhere. In RaiderZ, "somewhere" is the Broken Mast. It's a coastal zone filled with marauding pirates, malicious sea creatures, and plenty of magical ruins. It's also the first zone to receive a video preview showing off these highlights as well as some of the action combat that defines RaiderZ's gameplay.

The video gives an overview of the major threats to adventurers in the area, showing off some visually appealing locations as well as what appears to be the option for environmental destruction. There's also a preview of the magical constructs guarding the heart of the area's ruins. While there's only so much to be seen in a minute-long video preview, it's enough to get a feel for how diverse the zone is. So if you're eager for a look at what you'll be able to smack around once you get in in the game, take a look past the break for the full preview.

RaiderZ beta screenshot
I was first introduced to RaiderZ back at E3 2011. The game has been in testing since then and has apparently grown a lot. I've had some time now to try the beta and chop up some monsters, and I have to say that the action is frantic but the open-world is not something I am used to from action-based MMOs.

Mark Hill, Senior Producer for RaiderZ, answered my questions and explained just why we should be excited for this new free-to-play title. I'll let you read his answers, but I'd also ask that you try it out when you can. It really is a nice step forward from other action-based titles, but you can judge that for yourself. And after all, we love non-instanced combat, right?

Third RaiderZ dev diary shows off mounts, cooking, and more
Previous developer diaries have already demonstrated some of the features in the upcoming free-to-play action game RaiderZ, like using monsters' severed limbs as weapons and creating hybrid characters by blending archetypes. The third incantation in the series reveals even more goodies players can expect in the world of Rendel.

Crafters will find something to smile about as players will be able to craft their own unique weapons and armor as well as consumables. Eschewing the idea of junk loot, the devs state, "Every unique drop has a role in crafting the best gear." If you prefer to make tasty treats, you can hunt down spices and combine them with the meat of fresh-kills to create a feast for yourself and friends.

The video also shows off mounts (noting that some can actually assist players briefly in battle), special transformation items, and the ability to play music on various guitars. RaiderZ
Do you enjoy getting your face smashed in by an oversized pillar-wielding colossus? How about being swallowed whole and regurgitated by a gigantic frog? Does the idea of getting pulverized between the metal mitts of a robotic construct get you excited? If you answered "Yes!" to any of these questions, then you'll want to take a look at upcoming free-to-play MMO RaiderZ.

Fighting big, bad boss monsters is the focus of this action-oriented game. North American publisher Perfect World Entertainment urges players to "hunt together or die alone." You'll need to time attacks and dodges to avoid getting smashed to smithereens by the denizens of Rendel. To aid you in your quest, you'll form hunting parties with 15 of your closest friends in order to slay the toughest monsters RaiderZ has to offer. If you're victorious, you can gather up bits of flesh and bone to craft new and more powerful weapons.

RaiderZ boss fight video
With RaiderZ's closed beta rapidly approaching, it's not a half-bad idea to see the game in action before deciding to make the leap into it or not. Massively has obtained footage of a boss fight that shows a group of players taking on a mighty stone golem that's being piloted by a rather cute goblin.

RaiderZ will go into closed beta on August 8th, and Perfect World wants to remind players that those who sign up for the beta will get a chance to win tickets to the sold-out PAX later this month.

Senior Producer Mark Hill hopes that the company can build on the foundation it's already set for the game: "Players who already got a chance to try RaiderZ during the Alpha Test phase can also look forward to striving towards a new level cap of 30, exploring the Makot Village, and much more."

RaiderZ announces closed beta date, PAX trip giveaway
Are you starting to grow bored with summer? Do you wish there were something new to check out? Perfect World has the answer to summer duldrums, as its action-MMO RaiderZ is finally going into closed beta on August 8th. The new testing phase will raise the level cap to 30, add the Makot Village, and see numerous beta events.

If getting into the beta isn't reward enough, Perfect World is also hosting a PAX Prime giveaway for testers. Anyone who registers for the closed beta will get a chance to win an "all-inclusive" trip for two to the sold-out PAX game show on August 31st.

Raiderz mixes and matches classes to find the perfect fit for you
If you're an overachiever who loves to plan your future character's career months in advance, then today's the day to get out your graph paper and get to work on your RaiderZ adventurer. Perfect World has released its second dev diary about the action MMO, this one focused on the character creation and development process.

Players begin their time in RaiderZ by choosing one of four basic archetypes: Defender, Berserker, Sorcerer, or Cleric. These roles translate into tank, melee DPS, ranged DPS, and healer, respectively.

If that sounds a little... stale, just wait. In RaiderZ, you eventually can create a hybrid that utilizes skills from two of the archetypes. This can result in a tank who casts spells, or a ranged fighter who also melees from time to time.

E3 2012 Perfect World's Raiderz isn't Monster Hunter Online
Action combat seems to be the name of the game for MMOs at this year's E3. While tab-targeting is nice for eating pizza and raiding, sometimes you want something more visceral, so we have some top contenders for you today. RaiderZ is Perfect World Entertainment's newest action-based MMO, and while some people have an issue with its name, I've heard others note, in both positive and negative lights, its similarity to another game series very dear to my heart. I say that the comparison is a bit unfair to Perfect World, since what the studio has created isn't just different -- in some ways, it's better, especially if you're a fan of MMOs, which, if you're reading Massively, you probably are.

Since I know some console folks (even me!) have been thinking it for a while, let's just say it out loud and get it over with: RaiderZ is a Monster Hunter clone! Got it out of your system? Good. Now go wash your mouth out with soap.

RaiderZ, you know it's a cool game because of the Z.
Admit it: Deep down, you dream about beating in-game monsters to death with their own severed limbs. Who doesn't? Happily, RaiderZ makes that dream a reality, as is demonstrated in the game's most recent developer diary.

The video diary goes over tactics and playstyles for handling monsters out in the world. Most monsters have unique attack styles and players need to observe their foes in order to best exploit weaknesses of the monsters' timing and tactics. The video drops other strategy gems, like the clue that "melee players must get up close and personal with their adversaries" and have to consider the pros and cons of fast, lighter-damage attacks or slower, more powerful strikes. With no tab-targeting in the game, caster and ranged classes have to be sure to fire in the right direction and take full advantage of times that monsters leave themselves vulnerable. Most excitingly, there is the previously mentioned ability to whack off monsters' horns and appendages for a chance to use them to pierce, bludgeon, and otherwise damage the beasties.

Raiderz - giant frogger boss
TERA isn't the only upcoming MMO to feature big-ass monsters and action combat. Perfect World Entertainment showed us a demo of RaiderZ at last weekend's PAX East, and producer Mark Hill was pretty enthusiastic about the game's level of polish. He also made a point of highlighting the amount of free gameplay the company will be making available to fans later this year.

Neverwinter
If you're heading out to PAX East next week and your dance card is getting full, you may want to save a foxtrot or two for Perfect World Entertainment's booth. The company has announced that it will be showcasing two of its upcoming titles to those lucky few who make it out to Boston.

At Perfect World's booth (#736), both Neverwinter and RaiderZ will offer demos so that players can see for themselves whether these are games worth anticipating. As if the early glimpse weren't enough, participants can discover special loot while they play that will transform into real-world prizes. Perfect World will also hold raffles for the chance to win gaming equipment.

Senior Vice President and General Manager of Game Publishing Yoon Im sees these two games as the most exciting of Perfect World's future lineup: "We are proud to showcase RaiderZ and Neverwinter at PAX East. Our strong partnerships with developers worldwide have allowed us to expand our diverse portfolio of impressive free-to-play games and strengthen our position as a leader in the business of online games. Both RaiderZ and Neverwinter are looking spectacular and we can't wait to show them off."

RaiderZ - Snow battle with a yeti or something
Don't look now, but there's another MMO from Perfect World Entertainment in the works (we know, it shocks us too). RaiderZ was revealed at last year's E3, and now PWE is prepping the game for its alpha testing phase that begins on March 14th.

If you missed the E3 announcement, here's the skinny: RaiderZ features a "responsive real-time battle system" that necessitates evading and blocking as well as striking and destroying. The game also boasts more than 350 skills and a classless advancement system designed to let players make their own way across its extensive open world.

We recently learned that Perfect World Entertainment bought Cryptic Studios, the maker of Champions Online and Star Trek Online. While it was a surprise, it shouldn't have been. PWE has been successfully growing and publishing games for a long time. I caught up with PWE at E3 to take a look at three brand-new titles that will be coming out later this year. I approached the decked-out booth cautiously just in case the company had plans to buy me as well!

I was ushered into a dark cave-like structure built just for showing off three new titles. I shook hands, made introductions, placed faces with names that I normally knew only through email or social media, and sat down in front of a screen with a glowing image of a man in a bear suit -- a bear suit with giant claws. It reminded me of Frank from Donnie Darko.

The PR team started to give me the details of the new titles I was about to play, and then I turned around and logged in. Join me past the cut to hear what I thought!

Perfect World Entertainment just released a teaser page and trailer for its upcoming action MMO RaiderZ. We won't be getting a true taste of the gameplay until E3, but the trailer shows off some of the fast-paced action that is promised to change the entire world of monster hunting. We weren't aware that there was a world of monster hunting, but it had better be ready to be rocked.

In the trailer we get to see different characters battling with all types of unusual, enormous critters that look like they would be a handful for any warrior. The website and trailer indicate the need for grouping with others, so gather some friends and click past the cut to check out the trailer!

Now get out there -- those monsters won't hunt themselves!

Perfect World Entertainment is always busy. No, seriously -- these guys and gals do not sleep. They now publish nearly 10 titles and show no sign of stopping. Their newest and largest title, Forsaken World, just hit open beta at the time of this writing, so we thought it might be a good idea to ask a few questions of the developers.

We tracked down PWE's Clifton Chu, product manager for Forsaken World, to give us some info on the new game and the company's MMO presence. If you have been excited to play it or any of the other titles in the Perfect World lineup, 2011 is going to be a very good year for you. Not only can you try out every title on its roster, but you can do it at your own pace. No subscription fee also means that you'll have more money to blow in the cash shop. Hey, everyone needs vanity items!
