Plenty of guilds talk the big talk and DPS the raid meters, but when the chips are down and the final call is uttered, which one guild will stand on top of the mountain of geek corpses and be proclaimed "Champion?" In most MMOs, that would be rhetorical nonsense, but not in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Archlord/"><em>Archlord</em></a>, where guilds will compete in <a href="http://event.webzen.com/Archlord/Championship/">the first World Guild Championship</a> to earn a $10,000 prize and the recognition of their peers.<br />
<br />
The game's first combined server guild tournament kicks off on June 11th and features pitched PvP battles between guilds to climb the bracket and claim the big prize. All participants will be given a preset character with standard gear in order to minimize any in-game advantages.<br />
<br />
In order to preregister for the tournament, guilds will have to complete a special in-game quest. Registration for the World Guild Championship runs from now through May 30th, with the official brackets announced a few days later on June 4th.<br />
<br />
<em>Archlord </em>will be hosting special in-game events and handing out fun prizes for everyone during this time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/17/archlord-hosts-first-combined-server-guild-tournament/">Archlord hosts first combined server guild tournament</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 17 May 2012 15:30:00 EST. With all the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/26/eve-evolved-the-day-that-eve-online-died/">recent controversy</a> in <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a>, the annual <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/alliance-tournament/">Alliance Tournament</a> was all too quickly forgotten. <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ccp">CCP</a> did its usual fantastic job with the tournament coverage this year, with live video streams of the two qualifying weekends and a live EVE TV studio show for the finals. For those of us who missed the action, all of the match videos have now been uploaded to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/CCPGAMES/">the CCP Games YouTube channel</a> in HD. As we take a step back from recent events <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/02/ccp-responds-to-monoclegate-reaches-consensus-with-players/">to digest CCP and the CSM's statements</a>, now is the perfect chance to catch up on some of the year's awesome PvP tournament action.<br />
<br />
This year's tournament winners <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/en/tournament/prizelist">walked away with a first place prize</a> of 120 billion ISK and 50 blueprint runs for a unique Amarr heavy assault cruiser called the <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1522644">Vangel</a>. The second place prize of 50 billion ISK was also accompanied by 50 blueprint runs for a unique Amarr assault ship called the <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1522644">Malice</a>. Both ships are significantly better than their standard counterparts, but with only 50 ever to be introduced in the game, they're sure to become priceless collector's items. The third and fourth place winners received 20 billion ISK each as a consolation prize for coming so far in <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a>'s number one PvP tournament.<br />

In this week's <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/eve-evolved/">EVE Evolved</a>, I look at the meta-game surrounding the tournament and collect together links to videos and commentary on all the main matches in Alliance Tournament IX.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/03/eve-evolved-eves-alliance-tournament-ix/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Evolved: EVE's Alliance Tournament IX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/03/eve-evolved-eves-alliance-tournament-ix/">EVE Evolved: EVE's Alliance Tournament IX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 03 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/alliance-tournament/">Alliance Tournament</a> is one of the highlights of the <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> calendar. Every year, tens of thousands of people tune in to watch teams from competing alliances battle it out in a massive knock-out style tournament. With rules in place to limit the number and value of ships a team can field, the Alliance Tournament is as close to a fair fight as you'll find in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/">EVE</a></em>. This year's tournament came to a close last night after two weekends of qualifying rounds, exciting knock-out matches and a controversial final.<br />
<br />
Skip past the cut to find out how this year's tournament ended. Be warned that this post will spoil the outcome of the tournament. For those of you who missed the live stream, we'll be compiling an in-depth summary with links to videos of all the matches once <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ccp-games/">CCP</a> has <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/CCPGAMES/">uploaded the matches to YouTube</a>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/eves-alliance-tournament-ix-ends-in-controversy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE's Alliance Tournament IX ends in controversy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/eves-alliance-tournament-ix-ends-in-controversy/">EVE's Alliance Tournament IX ends in controversy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 20 Jun 2011 11:00:00 EST. Just over a month ago, the <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/eve-fanfest-2011/">Fanfest</a> was in full swing and some exciting new information on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a>'s future was being released. Massively was there to bring you <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/eve-online-fanfest-2011-roundup-day-1/">all the</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/eve-online-fanfest-2011-roundup-day-2/">big news</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/eve-online-fanfest-2011-roundup-day-3/">as it came out</a>, but most <em>EVE</em> players were unable to attend the event. Thankfully, most of the Fanfest panels and events were filmed and the main ones were even streamed live to viewers at home. For those who missed all the Fanfest excitement, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games/">CCP Games</a> has spent the last few weeks preparing those videos for launch and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/CCPGAMES/#g/c/9923468C02F5604D">uploading them to YouTube</a>. The team has also sent us 150 professional photos from the event to include in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-fanfest-2011/">our Fanfest gallery</a>.<br />
<br />
In this final Fanfest roundup article, we've put together a handy list of every video from the Fanfest along with a handy summary of each. Not included in the list are the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyrImQ1yltc">very technical Dev Tracker workshops</a> designed to inform third-party app developers. Many of these videos contain swearing and some are definitely not safe for work. Talks definitely worth watching include the CCP panel, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/eve-fanfest-2011-keynote-from-the-top-of-the-world/"><em>EVE</em> keynote</a>, the content panel, incursions, words words words and live events. Things you absolutely don't want to miss are the hilarious but not work-safe alliance panel, the PvP tournament finals, the war on lag talk, guest lecture "Who Needs a CEO?" by <a href="http://www.battleclinic.com/">Battleclinic</a> founder Chris Condon, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-sreegs">CCP Sreegs</a>' talk on security, and of course, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/eve-fanfest-2011-closing-ceremony-video-cluster-shows-off-the-f/">the EVE: A Future Vision trailer</a>.<br />
<br />
Skip past the cut for a full roundup of all the videos from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/eve-fanfest-2011/">this year's <em>EVE</em> Fanfest</a>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/eve-online-fanfest-2011-final-video-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Online Fanfest 2011: Final video roundup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/eve-online-fanfest-2011-final-video-roundup/">EVE Online Fanfest 2011: Final video roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 29 Apr 2011 12:00:00 EST. Your voices were heard! At least, I do hope those are <em>your</em> voices I've been hearing in my head... they are telling me to do things. And I listened. I am instructed to listen to the voices. The voices can't hurt me, right? Well, maybe not the voices themselves, but since they <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/cma-making-the-world-a-better-place/">chimed in on experimenting with combat</a>, I know I am about to get hurt some!</div>
<br />
This week concludes our foray into <em><a href="http://www.xsyon.com/">Xsyon</a></em> for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/choose-my-adventure">Choose My Adventure</a>, but I dare say it does not end my time there. Although the game does not fit the standard mold of MMO fare today, it has been quite enjoyable and a great change of pace. I have kept myself entertained with my adventures in-game and I still look forward to logging in each time (minus the apprehension as the combat loomed closer).<br />

Every year, the developers at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games/">CCP Games</a> host the truly massive <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> Fanfest. Players from all walks of life and countries will soon gather in Iceland for the world's biggest event dedicated entirely to internet spaceships. <a href="http://fanfest.eveonline.com/">Fanfest</a> originally started as a small gathering for the game's most dedicated fans, but over the years, it has grown both in size <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/20/eve-fanfest-pushed-back-due-to-work-on-incarna/">and in its importance to players</a>. CCP often uses Fanfest to give <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a> players a sneak peek of what's to come and to showcase what the company has been working on. We look forward each year to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/ccps-ceo-talks-about-upcoming-eve-fanfest/">CEO Hilmar</a>'s keynote speech, in which the year's big reveals typically take place.<br />
<br />
Over time, the <em>EVE</em> Fanfest has become an integral part of CCP's feedback-gathering mechanisms. Developers run a series of presentations on game design, work being done at CCP, and the lessons learned from previous projects or expansions. Round-table discussions give players the opportunity to raise questions directly to developers, and Fanfest in general gives players a way to mingle with developers in a very informal way.<br />

Over the last week, I've been spending a lot of time playing <a href="http://champions-online.com"><em>Champions Online</em>'s</a> anniversary event. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it rekindled my enjoyment for the game. While I've been playing <a href="http://massively.com/tag/champions-online"><em>CO</em></a>, here and there, I think like many players, I suffered from a little burnout.<br />
<br />
The anniversary event itself wasn't really what cured my ills. The extra things involved in the event were just little fun add-ons to the game. The main tasks in the game were still there for me: run Serpent Lantern, run NemCon, maybe level an alt, mess around on PTS, and roleplay. Even the "big bang" Destroid attacks were only a decent diversion for a half hour or so.<br />
<br />
What really got my excitement going was the increased socialization. A lot of people claimed "the zones are empty," but that couldn't be further from the truth. I logged out one night in Millenium City #7 and logged in the next afternoon to Millenium City #20, with most of the lower instances completely full. That's close to 2000 players in just MC alone. I participated in a lot of roleplaying and hung out with the <a href="http://championsonlineroleplayers.com">CORP</a> guys during their RP event. I added over 10 people to my friends list last week.<br />
<br />
The main reason my burnout was cured? I gained an optimistic look at where the game is headed.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/behind-the-mask-an-anniversary-well-spent/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Behind the Mask: An anniversary well-spent</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/behind-the-mask-an-anniversary-well-spent/">Behind the Mask: An anniversary well-spent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 09 Sep 2010 18:00:00 EST. The Alliance Tournament is one of <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a>'s annual highlights. Loved by participants and watched by hundreds of excited fans, the tournament is a showcase of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a>'s combat mechanics and pure strategy. With the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/06/eves-8th-official-alliance-tournament-to-include-a-new-flagshi/">interesting new "flagship" rule</a> to shake things up and the usual commentary on EVE TV, this year's tournament in June is definitely something to look forward to. In a recent news post, CCP confirmed that sign-ups for teams <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1299230">officially open on April 12th</a>. Alliances wanting to enter have until April 23rd to submit their interest in taking up one of the 64 slots in the event.<br />
<br />
Most of the slots for this year's tournament will be assigned to applicants completely at random, with last year's winners being guaranteed a spot. In an effort to make sure <em>EVE</em>'s big alliances aren't excluded by the luck of the draw, eight slots will be reserved for auction. Alliances will bid against each other for one of the eight guaranteed spots, allowing eight of <em>EVE</em>'s richer alliances to choose to secure their slots. There are enough slots left over, however, that those who don't enter the auction will still stand a very high chance of winning a slot at random. To help reduce the number of absentee entrants from last year's total, every alliance entering will also have to pay a 2 billion ISK non-refundable sign-up fee. CCP Claw has helpfully summarised the entry conditions and procedures <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1299230">in a post on the <em>EVE</em> Online forums</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/11/eve-online-alliance-tournament-viii-sign-ups-open-on-monday/">EVE Online Alliance Tournament VIII sign-ups open on Monday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 11 Apr 2010 10:00:00 EST. The first details on this year's annual <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> Alliance Tournament <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/first-details-emerge-on-eve-onlines-8th-annual-alliance-tourna/">emerged in a short devblog last month</a>, with promises of further information to come. The <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/events/alliances/tournament/t8/">Alliance Tournament</a> is one the year's biggest highlights for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a>'s PvP alliances. It provides a much-needed way to see which alliance can come up with the best strategies and execute them well. While massive fleets clash in the vastness of nullsec warfare, the tournament puts all alliances on an equal footing with restricted team sizes and ship allowances. In <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;bid=738">a new devblog</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games/"><em>CCP</em></a> have announced <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/events/alliances/tournament/t8/format.asp">the finished format</a> for this year's event along with an updated set of rules.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/06/eves-8th-official-alliance-tournament-to-include-a-new-flagshi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE's 8th official Alliance Tournament to include a new "flagship" rule</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/06/eves-8th-official-alliance-tournament-to-include-a-new-flagshi/">EVE's 8th official Alliance Tournament to include a new "flagship" rule</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 06 Mar 2010 20:00:00 EST. The final rounds of <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/events/alliances/tournament/t7/"><em>EVE</em> Alliance Tournament VII</a> were fought out today and only one alliance earned the right to call themselves the game's top PvPers: <a href="https://www.pandemic-legion.com/">Pandemic Legion</a>, tournament <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/08/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vi-champions/">champs for the second year in a row</a>. <br /><br />64 alliance teams entered the tournament 3 weeks ago, and today's finals culminated with Pandemic Legion facing off against <a href="http://www.eve-co2.org/">Circle-of-Two</a>. It was an entertaining final match but it was decided early on, as Pandemic Legion's stealth bombers unleashed waves of destruction upon Circle-of-Two, ultimately sealing their fate in the tournament. Pandemic Legion proved to be calculating in their tactics and ship setups this year. They successfully varied between speed fitted <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Minmatar">Minmatar</a> fleets for fast and brutal blitzes, and glass cannon <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/eve-evolved-a-stealth-bomber-adventure/">stealth bomber</a> setups for powerful alpha strikes. They remained unpredictable throughout the tournament and it paid off for them.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/20/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-champs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pandemic Legion crowned EVE Alliance Tournament VII champs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/20/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-champs/">Pandemic Legion crowned EVE Alliance Tournament VII champs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 20 Sep 2009 20:00:00 EST. The past two weekends of Alliance Tournament VII have seen the strongest teams among 64 player alliances <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/07/first-qualifiers-for-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-come-to-a-close/">battle it out to the top</a> 32. The tournament can be viewed in standard definition as well.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/19/eve-alliance-tournament-vii-streaming-live-in-hd-this-weekend/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Alliance Tournament VII streaming live in HD this weekend</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/19/eve-alliance-tournament-vii-streaming-live-in-hd-this-weekend/">EVE Alliance Tournament VII streaming live in HD this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 19 Sep 2009 10:00:00 EST. If you've been following the latest <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/02/eve-alliance-tournament-vii-kicks-off-this-weekend/">official Alliance Tournament</a> in <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><span style="font-style: italic;">EVE Online</span></a>, you've probably been glued to the match videos <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/CCPGAMES">being posted on Youtube</a>. Every year as I watch the matches, I find myself wishing I'd entered even though my rag-tag group of pilots would probably get knocked out in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/07/first-qualifiers-for-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-come-to-a-close/">qualifying rounds</a>. What you might not know is that the official Alliance Tournament wasn't the first PvP tournament on the block and it's certainly not the only one running. Players have been taking advantage of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span></a>'s open-ended sandbox design to set up their own competitions and arenas for years. They routinely organise <a href="http://biglottery.big-eve.com/">successful lotteries</a>, industrial ship destruction derbies, <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1095410">space races</a>, full on <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1174455">PvP tournaments</a> and even <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=681663">poker championships</a> by themselves. Some, such as <a href="http://biglottery.big-eve.com/">the BIG lottery</a>, have become long-standing and respected institutions. Organisers of these types of event also have the option of taking a percentage cut for themselves, which can build up to a huge amount of ISK for all the organisation effort they put in.<br /><br />Have you ever wanted to set up your own PvP tournament complete with prizes and your own unique set of rules? Whether you want to start a new popular competition tradition in <span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span> or just want to make some ISK off the entry fees, events organising is certainly one of <span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span>'s most rewarding freeform professions. In this article, I dish out some handy information on how to organise and set up a trustworthy tournament without putting any of your own ISK on the line.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/13/eve-evolved-organising-your-own-pvp-tournament/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Evolved: Organising your own PvP tournament</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/13/eve-evolved-organising-your-own-pvp-tournament/">EVE Evolved: Organising your own PvP tournament</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 13 Sep 2009 18:00:00 EST. This year's Alliance PvP Tournament will mark the seventh annual event. <a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP Games</a> likes to get the players involved in ways beyond being tournament competitors, which is good news for the gamers themselves. Rather than having the developers comment with the play-by-play action, we've mentioned that CCP put out a call to the players, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/30/ccp-games-seeking-players-to-commentate-eve-online-alliance-pvp/">seeking PvP experts to be commentators</a>. The final choices have been made and CCP announced the names of this year's Alliance Tournament commentators today, and it's clearly an accomplished roster of players. <br /><br />Crovan (Dark-Rising), of <a href="http://www.virginworlds.com/podcast.php?show=17">The Drone Bay podcast</a> fame, will be back again this year. As will Kil2 (coracao ardente), who did a great job last year, and who many players will know from <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1065858">the PvP videos he's released</a>. Verone, arguably <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/outlaws-of-eve-online-verone/"><em>EVE</em>'s most well-known pirate</a>, will apparently be enjoying the tournament as a viewer rather than commentator this year, but his <a href="http://www.veto-corp.com/">Veto</a> corpmate Ryas Nia will be on hand at Alliance Tournament VII. Ryas will be joined by two new commentators this year: TeaDaze from <a href="http://www.agony-unleashed.com/news.php">Agony Unleashed</a> (a PvP training school in <em>EVE</em>) and Trzzbk from <a href="http://wiki.goonfleet.com/index.php?title=Main_Page">GoonFleet</a>. <br /><br />This looks like a great lineup of players chosen to speak during the matches. <em>EVE</em> Alliance Tournament VII will begin in early September, and will run for three weekends, culminating in the live video broadcast of the finals from Reykjavik.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/ccp-games-selects-player-commentators-for-eve-alliance-tour/">CCP Games selects player commentators for EVE Alliance Tournament VII</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 18:00:00 EST. The podcast's hosts <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/crovan">Crovan</a> and Alsedrech got air time with <em>EVE</em> developers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-tyr">CCP Tyr</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-claw">CCP Claw</a>, as well as StevieSG from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/eve-tv">EVE TV</a>. In addition to dropping more info about the sixth annual Fanfest and some of the options players will have for excursions in Iceland beyond the player gathering itself (which will be October 1 - 3), they discuss the Fanfest PvP tournament. <br /><br />The Fanfest PvP tournament is a major draw to the event. The Fanfest tournament differs from the Alliance PvP Tournament (<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vii-details-and-changes-announced">which will be held earlier in the year</a>, in September) in some noticeable ways. Where the Alliance tournament is taken <em>very</em> seriously by most competitors who spend weeks in preparation -- after all, a substantial part of the game's playerbase are watching or listening to the event live -- the Fanfest PvP tournament is meant to allow for more impromptu, spontaneous match-ups. Indeed, some winning teams at the Fanfest tournament were comprised of virtual strangers who joined up at the last minute, and the rules can lead to some... <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/eve-fanfest-2008-pvp-tournament-to-be-unconventional/">unusual scenarios</a>. In keeping with this spirit of mixing it up, CCP has decided to hold free-for-all PvP matches at Fanfest 2009.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/16/eve-fanfest-pvp-tournament-to-have-free-for-all-and-tech-iii-mat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Fanfest PvP tournament to have free-for-all and Tech III matches</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/16/eve-fanfest-pvp-tournament-to-have-free-for-all-and-tech-iii-mat/">EVE Fanfest PvP tournament to have free-for-all and Tech III matches</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 16 Jun 2009 20:00:00 EST. CCP Games' <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/events/alliances/tournament/t7/">new Alliance Tournament page</a> explains what the event is all about: "<em>The EVE Online Alliance Tournament is the ultimate battlefield in which the top pilots in EVE Online fight for the glory and honour of their alliance. 64 Alliances compete over 3 weekends of intense, explosive action, with the final weekend broadcast live via EVE TV." </em><br /><br />Last year's was tournament was a big success, with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/">some excellent commentary on the matches</a> from members of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE</em></a> playerbase and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/eve-pvp-tournament-assassination-machiavellian-or-bad-form/">no small amount of drama</a>. Given how well things worked out last year, the 2009 Alliance Tournament will follow the same format, but there are a few changes that <em>EVE</em> developer CCP Claw discusses in his dev blog "<a href="http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;bid=667">How do you stop a man with seven alliance tournaments?</a>"<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vii-details-and-changes-announced/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Alliance PvP Tournament VII details and changes announced</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vii-details-and-changes-announced/">EVE Alliance PvP Tournament VII details and changes announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 20:00:00 EST. Last year's tournament was <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/eve-pvp-tournament-assassination-machiavellian-or-bad-form/">very entertaining</a>, both in terms of the matches themselves and the commentary from PvP experts selected from the playerbase, namely <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/">Crovan</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/outlaws-of-eve-online-verone/">Verone</a>. <br /><br />This year's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE</em></a> Alliance Tournament VII will kick off in September. We don't have any further details on it yet, except that it will follow the same format that CCP used last year -- two weekends of qualifiers and a third weekend for the finals. Last year's finals were broadcast in live video, which is something that <a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP Games</a> wants to do again this in Alliance Tournament VII. In fact, they're now seeking PvP experts from among the <em>EVE</em> playerbase since it's worked out so well in the past. The requirements? <em>EVE</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-charlie">video producer CCP Charlie writes</a>, <em>"As an Expert you'll be on the set discussing the tournament, tactics, teams and talking with developers about EVE live on air. You'll also take shifts in the commentary booth providing live commentary on the matches themselves. You need to know your PvP and you need to know how to keep on talking!"</em> The first two weeks' commentary will be done from those players' homes (via EVE Voice and internet radio stations), but CCP Games will fly the Experts out to Reykjavik, Iceland for the final rounds, covering both the airfare and accommodation. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/">EVE Alliance Tournament VI</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327420"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/absolution_thumbnail.png" alt="Absolution" title="Absolution" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327421"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m1-2_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327422"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m2-1_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327424"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m3-1_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327427"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m3-3_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/30/ccp-games-seeking-players-to-commentate-eve-online-alliance-pvp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CCP Games seeking players to commentate EVE Online Alliance PvP Tournament VII</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/30/ccp-games-seeking-players-to-commentate-eve-online-alliance-pvp/">CCP Games seeking players to commentate EVE Online Alliance PvP Tournament VII</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 30 May 2009 10:00:00 EST. Given how integral alliance warfare is to gameplay, <em>EVE Online</em>'s annual <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/alliance-pvp-tournament">Alliance PvP Tournament</a> is a major event each year, watched by thousands of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/eve-visual-guide-the-birth-of-new-eden/">New Eden's pilots</a>. The sixth annual Alliance PvP Tournament for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> was one of the most exciting to date. Combatants employed clever ship setups and tactics, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/">commentary was excellent</a>, and there was even a bit of drama thrown into the mix in the form of a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/eve-pvp-tournament-assassination-machiavellian-or-bad-form/">player assassination during the tournament</a>. In the end it was the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/08/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vi-champions/">Pandemic Legion alliance that reigned supreme</a> and a permanent monument to their victory has been set up in the Amamake solar system, where the <a href="https://www.pandemic-legion.com/">Pandemic Legion</a> corporation Sniggerdly started out as pirates. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.eve-tribune.com/">EVE Tribune</a> writer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/miyamoto-isoruku">Miyamoto Isoruku</a> recently had a chance to interview the leader of Pandemic Legion, Shamis Orzoz. They discuss a wide range of topics, ranging from the tactics used in Alliance PvP Tournament VI to Orzoz's views on player-politics and the state of alliance warfare in New Eden. In the end, it was <a href="http://www.pandemic-legion.com">Pandemic Legion</a> who took the crown, having bested some of the game's top PvP pilots and defeating <a href="http://rur-alliance.cz/">R.U.R. alliance</a> in a tense final match.<br /><br />While the real prize is the earned right to call themselves the game's best combat pilots, Pandemic Legion reaps other rewards: a tournament cup, gold medals for the tournament pilots, and 60 <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/30_Day_Concord_Pilot_License_Extension">PLEX</a> which are essentially in-game certificates that can provide the champions with a whopping (collective) 8 years of game time. In addition, Pandemic Legion will be the first alliance ever to receive a permanent in-game monument dedicated to their victory. <br /><br />Massively extends its congratulations to Pandemic Legion <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=993804">along with the rest of the <em>EVE</em> playerbase</a>, and props to all the other alliances that competed in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pvp-tournament/"><em>EVE Online</em> Alliance Tournament VI</a>. It should be tense as any loss means elimination from the tournament. <br /><br />If you're not familiar with the tournament or even with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE</em></a>, that doesn't mean this weekend's live video won't be accessible for you. Really it's all about watching ships fighting in space, although long-time players will have a better angle on what's happening with tactics and setups. We recently <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/">interviewed one of the tournament's commentators</a>, Crovan, who's also co-host of <a href="http://www.virginworlds.com/podcast.php?show=17">The Drone Bay podcast</a>. He explained to us what the tournament is all about, and what makes it such a significant annual event in <em>EVE</em>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/eve-online-alliance-pvp-tournament-finals-in-live-video-this-wee/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Online Alliance PvP Tournament finals in live video this weekend</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/eve-online-alliance-pvp-tournament-finals-in-live-video-this-wee/">EVE Online Alliance PvP Tournament finals in live video this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 06 Feb 2009 19:00:00 EST. While most conflicts play out in sweeping alliance warfare, with its requisite fleet battles involving hundreds of players, some alliances also choose to face one another in arena combat with the rapt attention of many thousands of their fellow pilots: the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/">Alliance PvP Tournament</a>. <br /><br />The Alliance Tournament in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> provides a way for players to demonstrate what they're capable of under controlled conditions, and offers a shot at fame or notoriety among the playerbase. In some cases, alliances may face off in the PvP tournament to settle a score in a very public way. The rules of engagement in place ensure that all alliance teams are on equal ground with one another. <em>EVE</em> players can be devious though, if nothing else... as one match this past weekend proved: one alliance competitor assassinated his team's captain once the match had begun, and then self-destructed his own ship. The would-be saboteur, ironically named "Happy Joymaker", later announced he had infiltrated the alliance for the express purpose of a public execution of his target.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/eve-pvp-tournament-assassination-machiavellian-or-bad-form/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE PvP Tournament assassination: Machiavellian or bad form?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/eve-pvp-tournament-assassination-machiavellian-or-bad-form/">EVE PvP Tournament assassination: Machiavellian or bad form?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 01 Feb 2009 20:00:00 EST. There's other things as well -- the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/new-edens-virtual-reporters/">volunteer program that CCP runs, ISD</a>. They've got <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/eve-onlines-war-journalists-report-from-the-front-lines/">people on the field</a> watching the matches and doing coverage live to post on the forums for people who missed the matches. If you want to actually be part of helping produce the alliance tournament, that's an option that's available to you. <br /><br />Also <a href="http://everadio.gamingradio.net/">EVE Radio</a> and the <span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span>-related radio stations do quite a bit. <a href="http://www.eve-news.net/">EVE Network News</a> were liveblogging the entire tournament. If you can't listen to the live audio stream you can still read up on it and contribute to the conversation as it's happening. There's also <a href="http://eve.coldfront.net/">IRC on the Coldfront server</a> which is the semi-official <em>EVE</em> IRC server where all the people hang out. I'm in there a lot of the time, some of the other experts are in there sometimes. You can get a lot of conversation both during, between, and after matches about what's going on. There are a lot of different ways you can get involved, even if you're not flying. <br /><br />Obviously there's no live video feed until the last weekend. But there is live audio, and the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/ccpgames">videos tend to go up on YouTube pretty quick</a>. I was very impressed with the turnaround.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-speaks-with-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-v/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively speaks with Crovan about EVE Alliance PvP Tournament VI Part 2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-speaks-with-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-v/">Massively speaks with Crovan about EVE Alliance PvP Tournament VI Part 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 31 Jan 2009 16:45:00 EST. Those alliances vie for control of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/new-eden">New Eden galaxy</a>, sparking continual warfare and political upheaval among the thousands of pilots flying in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE</em></a> at any given time. That's really the beauty of the game: the developers provide the setting, but it's the players who make it what it is. Alliance struggles are one of the defining features of the game, but not all scores are settled through massive fleet engagements. Some alliances opt to engage one another in an arena -- viewed by thousands of <em>EVE</em>'s pilots -- the <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/events/alliances/tournament/?t=6">Alliance PvP Tournament</a>. <br /><br />Alliance Tournament VI <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/eve-online-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi-begins-today/">kicked off last weekend</a>, continues this weekend with qualifying rounds, and will culminate in final rounds in February, which will be streamed as live video. As the Tournament is so significant to the players, each year <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> invites PvP experts from among the playerbase to be the tournament's commentators. Among those veteran combat pilots in <em>EVE Online</em>, <a href="http://bitteroldnoob.blogspot.com/">Crovan</a> certainly stands out. He, along with a small team of other PvP experts, was selected to provide live commentary on the matches. This should come as no problem for him, given the PvP experience gained from his time with <a href="http://eve-history.net/wiki/index.php/Mercenary_Coalition">now-legendary Mercenary Coalition</a> and being a familiar voice to many of us with <a href="http://www.virginworlds.com/podcast.php?show=17&amp;ep=20 ">The Drone Bay podcast</a>. <br /><br />Since The Drone Bay is the official podcast of the tournament, Crovan is recognizable to many listeners as the voice of the <em>EVE Online</em> Alliance Tournament VI. The fact that he's been a past Alliance Tournament competitor also gives him some additional perspective on the event. It's been a while since we spoke with Crovan -- we were fortunate enough to have him with us at Massively in the past through his excellent <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rogue-signal/">Rogue Signal column</a>. We caught up with Crovan this week, however, and he told us everything we wanted to know about the Alliance Tournament. <strong><br /></strong><strong></strong><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/">EVE Alliance Tournament VI</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327420"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/absolution_thumbnail.png" alt="Absolution" title="Absolution" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327421"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m1-2_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327422"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m2-1_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327424"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m3-1_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eve-alliance-tournament-vi/#1327427"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/01/d1m3-3_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively interviews Crovan about EVE Alliance PvP Tournament VI</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/">Massively interviews Crovan about EVE Alliance PvP Tournament VI</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 31 Jan 2009 16:45:00 EST. <div align="center"><em>You killed KIA. You bastards!</em><br /></div>
<br />The <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> Alliance PvP Tournament returned this past weekend, guns blazing. The first qualifying round is now finished, huge <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/isk">bets in ISK</a> were won and lost, and the competitors are preparing themselves for next weekend's face-offs. There were some good fights, and some surprises as well. When the relatively new pirate alliance "<a href="http://www.the-bastards.com/">The Bastards</a>" went toe to toe against <a href="http://killboard.kia-clan.info/?a=home">KIA Alliance</a> -- a formidable mercenary alliance in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> comprised of seasoned combat pilots, many players assumed KIA would win. Those assumptions were wrong -- The Bastards scored a decisive victory against their opponents, no doubt to the chagrin of many players who bet against the pirates. <br /><br />One combatant from The Bastards, a career pirate (in <em>EVE</em>) named "<a href="http://i-pirate.blogspot.com/">Flashfresh</a>", wrote about the experience of preparing to face some heavy competition from KIA Alliance and how their time spent in training paid off. <a href="http://i-pirate.blogspot.com/2009/01/am-very-proud-of-bastards.html">Flashfresh wrote</a>: <em>"This afternoon, the team was announced, moved to a staging area and the Ventrilo server became a cacophony of mad noise. The rest (including me) cheered ourselves hoarse. There was no worry or fear amongst the Bastards team; no talk about the opposition only on how we were going to do. The first qualifying round takes place on January 24th and 25th, from 1500 - 2100 GMT. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> dev CCP Mindstar explained earlier this week how players can tune in to the tournament. The two stages of qualifying rounds, this weekend and next, can be listened to in audio in a few different ways. Players can either listen in-game in the "Alliance Tournament" channel using EVE Voice, or tune in to what's happening via the web at <a href="http://www.eve-radio.com/">EVE Radio</a>, <a href="http://www.siradio.fm/">Split Infinity Radio</a>, or <a href="http://www.newedenradio.com/">New Eden Radio</a> -- all of which are broadcasting tournament coverage. <br /><br />This <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pvp-tournament">Alliance Tournament</a> is the first where the qualifying rounds have been made available in audio, with commentators selected from among the game's top PvP'ers, notably <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/bloggers/phillip-manning ">Crovan</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/verone">Verone</a> -- both of whom have a well-deserved reputation for being knowledgeable about the combat side of the game. <br /><br />A <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/events/alliances/tournament/t6/matches.asp?t=6 ">match schedule</a> is also available for those who want to tune in to a particular battle. While the qualifying rounds of Alliance Tournament VI are audio-only, the finals of the tournament will be broadcast live in video, on February 7th and 8th. As an added bonus, that live video broadcast will feature some of the first footage shown from the upcoming <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/apocrypha"><em>Apocrypha</em></a> expansion.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Update: While only the final rounds of the tournament will be streamed live, CCP Games is already making the qualifying rounds footage available on </span><a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E3253708589CBE0A">their YouTube page</a><span style="font-weight: bold;">. The final rounds of the Alliance PvP Tournament will be broadcast live, which is the basis for the latest announcement from CCP Games. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online "><em>EVE Online</em></a> dev <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-fallout ">CCP Fallout</a> has stated there will be free advertising slots for players to use during the live broadcast of the tournament finals. As CCP Fallout says, <em>"Simply put: this is the biggest ad space available for EVE players and yet it will cost you absolutely nothing to submit an advertisement." </em><br /><br />We cringe at the thought of some of the video footage that could make it into the live broadcast (while looking forward to it as well), but <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> has laid out some general and technical guidelines that should keep the live broadcast relatively clean. Also, they've opened up the use of some of their intellectual property for players to use in producing their adverts -- namely the <em>EVE Online</em> music and sound effects. (Although it must be noted that you actually <em>have to</em> use their music and sound effects, due to copyright issues that would inevitably result from widespread Rick-rolling.)<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/20/eve-players-get-free-advertising-during-live-pvp-tournament-broa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE players get free advertising during live PvP tournament broadcast</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/20/eve-players-get-free-advertising-during-live-pvp-tournament-broa/">EVE players get free advertising during live PvP tournament broadcast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 20 Dec 2008 20:00:00 EST. The news imparted at that time did not bode well for the future of the alliance tournaments, given the expense and level of involvement on the part of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> staff to run it. But <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE</em></a> developer <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=author&amp;p=CCP%20Mindstar ">CCP Mindstar</a> has given word that the alliance tournament is on for 2009, and listed the relevant dates as they presently stand: <br /><br />Tournament Signups -- Dec 19th - Jan 9th<br />Qualifying Round 1 -- Jan 24th, Jan 25th<br />Qualifying Round 2 -- Jan 31st, Feb 1st<br />Finals -- Feb 7th, Feb 8th<br /><br />The tournament rules will remain largely the same as in previous years, but some changes are to be expected. The <em>EVE</em> Alliance PvP Tournament VI will take place over six days -- specifically, over three weekends so weekday conflicts won't be an issue.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/29/eves-alliance-pvp-tournament-returns/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE's Alliance PVP Tournament returns</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/29/eves-alliance-pvp-tournament-returns/">EVE's Alliance PVP Tournament returns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 29 Nov 2008 18:00:00 EST. The end result promises to be wonderfully chaotic and offers something interesting for players of all types, whether hardcore PvP-er or carebear. In fact, this also creates the new possibility of having industry-focused players giving tournament commentary alongside the PvP veterans, but there's been no word on this to date. <br /><br />While <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE's</em></a> PvP tournament viewers at <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/fanfest/2008/">Fanfest 2008 </a>can look forward to the pandemonium of coordinating mining lasers with missile fire, it's a safe assumption that the tournament participants themselves would like to know how this is expected to go down. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> now has a video explaining how the tournament will work, and has posted two charts showing the brackets of the <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/fanfest/2008/brackets.asp"><em>EVE</em> Fanfest 2008 PvP Tournament schedule.</a> In fact, devs CCP Mindstar and CCP Claw were filmed randomly drawing teams from a 'hat' and matching them up, which was later solidified into the schedule.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/eve-fanfest-2008-pvp-tournament-details-announced-in-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Fanfest 2008 PvP Tournament details announced in video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/eve-fanfest-2008-pvp-tournament-details-announced-in-video/">EVE Fanfest 2008 PvP Tournament details announced in video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 18:30:00 EST. The implementation of these new objectives was briefly outlined by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> in July, but they've now <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/fanfest/2008/pvprules.asp ">clarified the rules and systems to be used;</a> a video they've put up on the official <em>EVE</em> site does a good job of explaining how it's all going to work. <br /><br />Basically, all tournament participants will receive 'super characters' with all skills maxed at level 5. Both sides will have a <a href="http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Rorqual">Rorqual capital mining ship</a> -- the space between those is considered to be the arena, where combat can occur. Both sides attempt to collect as much ore as possible within 15 minutes, as the video explains: <em>"Any methods within the rules can be used to accomplish this and stop your opponents from doing the same. Mining ore yourself, killing enemy miners and looting their wrecks, stealing from enemy jetcans or just outright destroying the opposing team are all within the rules."</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/eve-fanfest-pvp-tournament-rules-announced-with-video-demo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Fanfest PvP Tournament rules announced with video demo</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/eve-fanfest-pvp-tournament-rules-announced-with-video-demo/">EVE Fanfest PvP Tournament rules announced with video demo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 30 Aug 2008 15:00:00 EST. The three-day event (November 6-8) will be filled with a PvP Tournament; presentations by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP</a> devs to showcase upcoming game features; roundtable discussions between players and devs; and a silent auction of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span></a> collectibles with proceeds to benefit sick children. <br /><br />If any of that sounds enticing to you, it actually gets better. <span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span> Fanfest 2008 will feature a hands-on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ambulation">demo of Ambulation.</a> CCP states: <em>"You'll be able to sit down and interact with character avatars live at FanFest. This will be the first public demonstration of EVE with Walking in Stations and we expect this experience to be a huge draw." </em>To help pack in the crowds, CCP Games is offering travel packages for reduced rates on airfare and hotel stays, and they've expanded the <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/fanfest/2008/Packages.asp">travel package offerings to more countries</a> since their initial Fanfest announcement.
