So what's all this hullabaloo about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em></a>? Let's start with the basics.<br />
<br />
<em>The Secret World</em> is a new MMORPG by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom</a>, the studio that brought you <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>Age of Conan</em></a>, and way back when, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/anarchy-online"><em>Anarchy Online</em></a>. It's also the brainchild of one <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ragnar-tornquist">Ragnar Tornquist</a>, familiar to adventure gamers the world over thanks to <em>Dreamfall</em> and <em>The Longest Journey</em>. Like those seminal titles, <em>The Secret World</em> seeks to conjure an immersive, fantastical realm of myth, magic, and in some cases, horror. Unlike the adventures of April Ryan, though, <em>The Secret World</em> is your story, and it takes place in the video game equivalent of the real world (not to mention Hell, portions of a hollow Earth, and many other mythological settings).<br />
<br />
There's an undeniable Lovecraftian influence, there are zombies and assault rifles, and there's a three-faction setup that asks players to join forces with noted secret societies like the Templars and the Illuminati (as well as the less-familiar Dragons). Did we mention battleground PvP, a <em>Minecraft</em>-inspired crafting system, and skill-based progression mechanics that depart from traditional MMORPG classes and levels in favor of player-made builds (drawn from a pool of nearly 600 distinct abilities)?<br />
<br />
As you can see, Funcom is throwing everything at the wall, and luckily for you, Massively has been keeping tabs on the game's development for a number of years now. 	Welcome to <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em>'s</a> Overlook Motel, where the sheets are clean, the service is friendly, and there's an ominous doorway to Hell in every room. Such is the beginning of the second instanced dungeon of <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/funcom">Funcom's</a> upcoming horror-fantasy MMO, which sees players descending deep into the bowels of the underworld to put an end to a raging demonic war that's causing Hell to leak through to the real world.<br />

	I had the pleasure of joining Funcom's Tor Andersen on a guided tour of Hell Raised, the first in a series of three dungeons that take place in the fiery depths, and boy did I ever have a hell of a time (sorry). Players might be exploring the world of Nexus in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/WildStar/">WildStar</a></em>, but it's not their world. It belonged to the Eldan, and while the race itself might not be present, its technology is still everywhere. The newest installment of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/WildStar-Wednesday/"><em>WildStar</em> Wednesday</a> takes a look at <a href="http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/blog/wildstar_wednesday_insights_into_eldan_technology.php">some of the automated robots left behind by the Eldan</a>. They're not directly malicious, but they're also not particularly friendly, pursuing ancient objectives and antiquated functions with single-minded devotion.<br />
<br />
While Probes are primarily meant for gathering information and surveillance, the floating eyes are equipped with shielding and directed-energy weapons to keep themselves safe. Protectors have a more direct combat function; the lumbering humanoid robots found gathered around important scientific sites. Last but not least, the Augmentors are rare but potent machines capable of injecting nanomachines into a subject to start a process of mechanical integration known as augmentation. You read that headline right: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> will be introducing player starbases in its upcoming Season 6. For the first time in the game, fleets will be able to band together to build a virtual home in the icy blackness of space.<br />

The project was spearheaded by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cryptic/">Cryptic</a> Lead Artist <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jeremy-mattson/">Jeremy Mattson</a>, who was given the task of conceptualizing and designing this core feature of the path. A long time ago on a server far, far away, the Imperial forces <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> prepared a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> update to rule the online world: <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/05/21/star-wars-the-old-republics-13-patch-revealed">patch 1.3</a>. Called Allies, patch 1.3 will usher in a group finder, character transfers, and legacy perks.<br />
<br />
The group finder will aid in banding together interested adventurers to tackle operations and flashpoints. Lead Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/daniel-erickson">Daniel Erickson</a> said that the time is ripe for the feature, as players are spread out in levels and are rolling plenty of alts. Saying that BioWare wants to "respect the communities" that have formed, Erickson reports that the group finder will not be cross-server.<br />
<br />
He also revealed some of the other key features for patch 1.3. Additional perks to the Legacy system will allow players to customize their experience; we'll see new ports, earlier access to mounts, and bonus XP modifiers for PvP. The patch will also change social gear to fit the armor type of the class using it, server transfers, and the ability to add augments to any crafting items. Looking past 1.3, Erickson promises a "return to big content" with patch 1.4.<br />

<a href="http://www.jagex.com/">Jagex</a>, developer of the ever-popular browser-based game <a href="http://www.runescape.com/"><em>RuneScape</em></a>, is known for its rapid development schedule. Heck, I fully expect that this article will be outdated by the time I finish its rough draft. Players of the Jagex flagship MMO can log in to find new items, places to explore, and quests to do almost weekly. I tend to poke my nose into the game several times a week, so I know that a more casual player has endless amounts of content to run through. I might level up my construction skill and then switch to something completely different. I just recently spent an afternoon playing with just the <a href="http://services.runescape.com/m=news/bonfires">new bonfire skill</a>.<br />
<br />
Of course, those pesky developers are at it again: giving me <em>more</em> content to go through even though my highest skills hover around only the level 40 mark. This time it's the <a href="http://services.runescape.com/m=news/the-runespan">Runespan</a>, a brand-new area that helps players level runecrafting by offering them a one-stop shop that is more casual and non-competitive than the normal runecraft experience.<br />

	<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/metal-maw">Metal Maw</a>, the brain child of a live drawing session conceived at last year's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2011,wildstar">Gamescom</a>, is featured once again in this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/wildstar/"><em>WildStar</em></a> "Wednesday" -- and this time he's not just some concept art or a 3-D model but a fully animated death-bringer! Along with a test video featuring the big guy in action, <a href="http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/blog/wildstar_wednesday_metal_maw_action.php">this week's blog post</a> has some information about the team's considerations in bringing him to life.<br />
	<br />
	This destructive blue hulk is designed for about 15 level 6 players to fight at once and should give them about a three-minute battle. His abilities are designed so that things get steadily more interesting as the fight progresses. Now that the team's happy with the way he fights, Metal Maw's been put in a crate and shipped on over to the animation and effects team to get his final beauty polish before being totally ready for players in-game.<br />

So <a href="http://www.thesecretworld.com"><em>The Secret World's</em></a> mission system treads well off the beaten MMO path. It's pretty cool, actually, though portions of it may irritate quest-grinders who just want to blow through zones on their way to the game's equivalent of a max-level toon.<br />

New classes are always exciting. In a game with an established set of abilities and character options, the chance to take a different option helps keep the game engaging and surprising. That's no doubt part of the rationale behind <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Runes-of-Magic/">Runes of Magic</a></em>'s two new classes, the Champion and the Warlock. But they're also meant to show off the ingenuity and cleverness of the Dwarves, and <a href="http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/news,id2944,modern_technology_or_dark_magic.html">in a new preview of these two classes</a>, it becomes clear just how much both will bring to the table.<br />
<br />
The Warlock is an arcane caster who has delved into the knowledge of the Shadowforge Dwarves, allowing him to act as either a damage dealer or a support character as the situation warrants. Champions are masters of pseudo-mystical forge techniques, with the Champion ultimately being capable of transforming into a special Runic Robot form for increased damage and durability. <a href="http://www.thesecretworld.com"><em>The Secret World's</em></a> press beta hasn't been what I expected. To be frank, I'd say there are times I wish I didn't have to play it. See, my guild pals are on either the closed beta server or the public beta weekends server, both of which are quite crowded and therefore offer quite a different experience from the forlorn existence endured by my Massively Templar.<br />
<br />
There's also the whole I-don't-get-to-keep-this-character thing, not to mention the wow-this-is-cool-and-I-don't-want-to-spoil-it-for-myself-post-launch thing.<br />

On the other hand, I've had plenty of time to muck around with game systems and minutiae, something that my card-carrying membership in the crazy carebear immersionist secret society often precludes. So what is <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Diablo-III/">Diablo III</a></em>? Certain members of our audience are likely shaking their heads at the question, but some potential players genuinely don't have any idea. After all, the first game was released back in 1996. For those of you who have heard the name but have no idea what in the world it refers to, you're in luck, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a> has just put together a short video explaining exactly what <em>Diablo III</em> is for the uninitiated.<br />

It's a game where you head through a lot of randomly generated dungeons, slaughter untold numbers of demons, and try to banish the forces of the Burning Hells from the mortal realm. 	The real secret to <a href="http://thesecretworld.com/"><em>The Secret World</em></a> is that it's the Matrix (see the above picture from the character creator that resembles <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrie-Anne_Moss">Carrie-Anne Moss</a>).<br />
	<br />
	Actually, the first and most important stop for an MMO gamer is the character creator. When you're in beta, it might not be as important because the character will be tossed away in a few short weeks. However, in the live game, this character will not only be the same one you might see for years to come; it's also a reflection of you as a player. There are some players who insist on playing the ugliest races in the game, while others want the prettiest or the strongest. Personally, I lean toward playing female characters. I'm not sure what that says about me.<br />

Dark days are upon us, and I, for one, couldn't be more pleased. For the past few days I've had the pleasure of exploring the dark corners of the press beta for <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/funcom">Funcom's</a> upcoming horror-fantasy MMO, <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em></a>, and now the embargo is up and I'm finally able to share my impressions with all of you.<br />

With all the talk about how <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/MechWarrior-Online/">MechWarrior Online</a></em> will play, potential players have no doubt been itching to see the game in full swing. We only recently got a peek at the first in-game screenshots, but today a veritable cascade of new information is available. Not one, not two, but <em>six</em> preview videos have been released, showing off the general gameplay, all four 'Mech weight classes, and the interface for customizing your 'Mech before you march it into battle.<br />
<br />
Aside from a variety of gameplay footage (clearly unpolished but still encouraging), the videos give some insight into the game's design goals. Rather than following the route of the classic <em>MechWarrior</em> games that placed the heaviest 'Mechs at the top of the food chain, <em>MechWarrior Online</em> wants all machines to have a place on the battlefield depending on player style and battlefield objectives. But why read about it when you can watch it in action just past the break? It's a heady time for both the team and playerbase, as this 2007 title steps into the big leagues of expansion-holding MMOs. And because we know you hate waiting for all the goods, we joined Turbine on the test server for an advance look at some of the hottest features coming <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/27/going-inside-dungeons-and-dragons-online-menace-of-the-underdar/">with June's launch</a>.<br />

On the phone with us was Senior Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/eric-boyer/">Eric Boyer</a>, Community Specialist Amanda Grove, and Design Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ian-currie">Ian Currie</a>. "We want to show players how big the expansion pack is and how much it'll be changing the game," Boyer began, telling us that levels one through 20 were merely "heroic" -- now it'll be time to make the move into epic territory.<br />

Battles in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/MechWarrior-Online/">MechWarrior Online</a></em> are not about subtlety; they are about unloading huge amounts of firepower on enemy machines as fast as possible. That is the sole purpose of the Catapult, a 'Mech loaded with long-range missiles to pummel enemy units into submission. But the Catapult has another distinction -- it's the first 'Mech to receive screenshot treatment, showing the heavy support 'Mech off in all its jumping, missile-heavy goodness.<br />
<br />
Fans familiar with previous games in the <em>MechWarrior</em> franchise or the BattleTech board game will know the Catapult quite well. It's just barely into the heavier weight class. sporting jump jets and medium lasers to help it move out of dangerous engagements or disable lighter units. And, of course, there are its twin missile banks, effective as a direct-fire weapon or for use as artillery with an assisting spotter unit. The game's screenshots also show off the classic variant replacing the missile banks with PPCs, high-powered energy cannons designed to fry targets at extreme range.<br />

As I'm sure most of you can guess by the title of this piece, I spent a little time in another MMO this weekend. That doesn't mean that I will be trading in my Jawas and Wookiees for Asura and Charr. However, I will admit that <a href="http://swtor.com/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> does not contain everything I want from an MMO. That's also not say that <a href="http://guildwars2.com/"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> has all those missing elements. But I believe there are quite a few things that both of these great MMOs can learn from each other to make the overall MMO experience better for everyone.<br />
<br />
Before I begin this breakdown, I should state that this is not a comprehensive list of everything that I liked and disliked from either game. At the same time, I want to also state that, besides the 20 or so minutes at trade shows I had with the game, this weekend marked the first time I've spent any serious time in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a>. My opinion here is far from complete, and my experience is really based on the first 10 levels of <em>GW2</em>.<br />

Well there you have it, ladies and gents: The first <a href="http://www.guildwars2.com/en/"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a><em> </em>beta weekend over which people had direct control over their participation has come and gone. It was quite the exciting weekend, and it's amazing to see the volume and content of feedback being provided. If you missed out on a chance to get your hands on the game, feel free to form some vicarious impressions; there's tons of footage out there from oodles of people. Massively has a <a href="http://www.twitch.tv/massivelytv/videos">few streams recorded</a>, and I have a niggling feeling that <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/bogotter">someone</a> will have plenty of extra footage.<br />
<br />
It was great to be back in the game, it was great to get to talk about stuff with people and stream and share pictures, but mostly it was great to see the world populated the way it really needs to be to feel alive and whole. Once again, <a href="http://www.droidgamers.com/">Droid Gamers</a> sent me a sweet tip regarding yet another Android-based MMO. This time around, it's <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asobimo.iruna_alpha_en&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hc29iaW1vLmlydW5hX2FscGhhX2VuIl0."><em>Iruna Online</em></a>, a real and actual MMO complete with open worlds, "<a href="http://android.ue.iruna.jp/index">millions</a>" of other players, quests, equipment and monsters. In fact, the game reminds me in some ways of <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/iruna-online/"><em>Iruna Online</em></a> is not the first mobile MMO that has felt like the <a href="http://www.square-enix.com/na/">Square-Enix</a> favorite, perhaps because they all share a similar art style. As I played, it struck me that the newer smartphones have enough power to run a game that looks as good as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/final-fantasy-xi/"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a>, albeit with some graphics options turned down or off.<br />
<br />
The similarities basically end there, however. <em>Iruna Online</em> is one of the newer stock of mobile MMOs that show mobile massively multiplayer gaming is really here. It should not be shocking or surprising anymore. Just as in the PC market, we are going to see many titles stream from the Eastern market. 	Hopeful denizens of Tyria are almost certainly gearing up for this weekend's <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/guild-wars-2">Guild Wars 2</a></em> public beta test, but fans of all things mad-science are probably a bit disappointed that the insa-- err, innovative Asura won't be playable this time around. Not to worry, though; the folks over at PC Gamer got an inside look at the first 10 levels of the Asura starting experience for your pleasure.<br />

	Of course, if there's one thing that fans of the minuscule mad scientists know to expect from the race's crazed experiments, it's that they operate entirely within the realm of Murphy's Law. That of course holds true for the Asura starting experience, which sees players battling against the rebel Asuran Inquest while also dealing with the myriad failed science projects of their compatriots. The primals are among the greatest forces within Eorzea, something that <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XIV/">Final Fantasy XIV</a></em> players are no doubt acutely aware of after the clash with Ifrit. The second primal battle is coming, pitting players against Garuda, deity of the Ixali. That means another pitched battle against a superior foe in the Howling Eye, a battle which the official site has <a href="http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=2db6ff94d8971fb061085efefc0bcefe4ae333c8">just recently previewed</a> with a video of the fight in hard mode and a video preview of the new weapon rewards.<br />

According to the lore, the Ixali revere Garuda as the Empress of Birds, a soaring deity who maintains an appetite for the flesh of land-dwelling creatures. She is the incarnate strength of the bird-men as well as a source of great terror. But just as with Ifrit, players who defeat her can expect to have a variety of fantastic weapons, as illustrated in the video just past the break. Just be careful -- if you aren't on the ball when you fight her, you could find yourself <a href="http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=2db6ff94d8971fb061085efefc0bcefe4ae333c8">completely blown away</a>.<br />

Do you dig giant robots? Of course you do. The team behind <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em> apparently likes them as well, seeing as how the game's next major update, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Issue-23/">Issue 23</a>, allows you to dress up like one. The newest Tier 9 VIP reward is the Mecha Armor costume set, and the fine people at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Paragon-Studios/">Paragon Studios</a> were kind enough to give us a chance to take a sneak peek at the costume set before it's available on the test server.<br />

The gallery below contains an image of a male, female, and huge character in the new costume set, complete with wings, backpacks, and other armor reminiscent of any number of Gundam designs. Like other Tier 9 VIP rewards, the armor will only be unlockable for a limited time, so if you're feeling a desperate need to play with these costume parts -- and we can't blame you -- it's best save up your reward tokens now.<br />

One of the parts of the recent <a href="http://riftgame.com"><em>RIFT</em></a> producer's letter that caught my eye was the hint that there will soon be more to do in game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift/">besides "stab" stuff</a>. Maybe I'm mellowing in my old age, or perhaps it's because of my inner Bartle explorer player-type, but I'm enjoying activities in MMOs that don't involve mass slaughter all the time. Usually, that means crafting, but the inventory management that's required often leaves me cross-eyed by the time I'm done.<br />
<br />
With Update 1.8, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift/"><em>RIFT</em></a> will add two new skills to the game: fishing and survival. Non-combat activities have already been introduced in past updates, like the wedding instance, but these two new skills look to be fun games within the game, so I was eager to check things out. As anyone around the Massively offices can tell you, I am eagerly-bordering-on-obsessively awaiting the release of <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/funcom">Funcom's</a> latest entry into the MMO market, <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/the-secret-world">The Secret World</a></em>. I'm all about the supernatural, occult, and paranormal, and <em>The Secret World</em>'s "all the myths are true" philosophy is right up my alley, so when I heard that there would be a playable demo at <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/pax-east-2012">PAX East 2012</a>, it was all I could do not to squeal like a 12-year-old girl (and I may have done so anyway).<br />
<br />
Of course, many people are hesitant about the title. Between <em>The Secret World</em>'s subscription-cum-microtransactions business model and Funcom's track record of poor launches and bug-laden games, some gamers are finding themselves hesitant to get hyped up for the game's June 19th launch. Of course, I'd be lying if I said I weren't at least a bit cautious myself, regardless of my enthusiasm for the game. So how is the game shaping up? <a href="http://www.tera-online.com"><em>TERA</em></a> isn't the only upcoming MMO to feature big-ass monsters and action combat. <a href="http://www.perfectworld.com">Perfect World Entertainment</a> showed us a demo of <a href="http://raiderz.perfectworld.com"><em>Raiderz</em></a> at last weekend's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-east-2012">PAX East</a>, and producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mark-hill">Mark Hill</a> was pretty enthusiastic about the game's level of polish. He also made a point of highlighting the amount of free gameplay the company will be making available to fans later this year.<br />

Many MMOs have skill or talent trees, but when you're doing a steampunk game, why not take a bland staple of the genre and turn it into something awesome? That's what <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/City-of-Steam/"><em>City of Steam's</em></a> Lead Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dave-winking/">Dave Winking</a> is promoting when he shows off the team's ideas for turning the mundane into the fantastical.<br />
<br />
After taking feedback from previous generic builds, <em>City of Steam's</em> dev team revamped the skill tree's visuals and mechanics to entice a "whoa!" out of its players. The concept is that the tree is now a maze of pipes, boilers, and valves. Players will build up "pressure" over time, pressure that can be vented into different pipes. The more pressure in a pipe, the higher a skill goes, and once a skill hits 100% pressure, it's usable by the player.<br />
<br />
Winking says that players have more options than just filling up a pipe; they can also over-pressurize pipes to achieve higher skill ranks and take multiple paths to achieve better skills. There's even a mystery skill that Winking says will "make your character explode into pieces of bread with cat's heads stuck through them." 	Last year at <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/pax-prime-2011">PAX Prime</a>, I had the opportunity to get my hands on an early version of <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/red-5-studios">Red 5 Studios'</a> upcoming MMOFPS, <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/firefall">Firefall</a></em>. The game's come a long way since then, having gone into closed beta shortly after PAX Prime.<br />

	As of Friday, the game's NDA has finally dropped, and I can finally tell you fine folks all about my experiences with the game's beta. For those of you somehow not in the know, <em>Firefall</em> is essentially two games in one. On the one hand, you have the title's open-world PvE content that sees players exploring the lands of New Eden in an attempt to find a way to fight back the destructive alien force known as the Melding. On the other, there's the competitive e-sports-esque PvP, which lets players test their skills against each another to see who's the best shot in New Eden. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom</a>'s <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-secret-world">The Secret World</a> </em>has had a big weekend at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/PAX-East-2012/">PAX East</a> with its first public chance for hands-on interaction! It's a game that's been stirring up quite a bit of interest; the classless, level-less progression system, secret societies, and sword-and-automatic-rifle genre-bending are just a few of its selling points. My ears tend to perk up when the game gets mentioned, so of course I was all but falling over myself to hop into the playable demo this weekend. Many words come to mind when you mention Dungeons &amp; Dragons, but "action" is not usually one of them. So at first glance, <a href="http://www.playneverwinter.com"><em>Neverwinter</em></a> might seem like a bit of an odd beast. The game is meant as an action-based MMORPG that takes place in the distant future of the beloved <em>Neverwinter Nights</em> series; it's being developed by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic-Studios/">Cryptic Studios</a> and published by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Perfect-World-Entertainment/">Perfect World Entertainment</a>. While the game isn't yet in open testing, the early version was playable on the floor of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/PAX-East-2012/">PAX East</a>, and we had a chance to sit down with Cryptic Studios to discuss the game's development.<br />

I came to the show with no real expectations about the game beyond the fact that I knew the companies involved and was distantly aware of the game's development. I walked away more than a little impressed by what I had seen. Yesterday, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare</a> invited some members of the press to take part in a guided tour of the latest update for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>. In recent <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/hyperspace-beacon/">Hyperspace Beacons</a>, we've covered everything from the user interface changes to the crew skills system. However, the specifics of some of the new story content have been a bit sparse. Thanks to help from BioWare, that's now changed.<br />

Beyond the break, we have put together a 15-minute video describing the ins and outs of the latest flashpoint: The Lost Island. Much like its predecessor, <a href="http://www.worldofwarplanes.com"><em>World of Warplanes</em></a> is not a game with an ambiguous title. This is a game about planes, and not the sort that flies cargo from one point on the globe to another. If flying around and getting into aerial dogfights sounds like an unappealing concept to you, well, you can pretty much just exit stage left when you hear the name.<br />
<br />
But the lack of subtlety in the name, however noteworthy, doesn't really say much about the game itself. Is it fun to play? Does it succeed in what it sets out to do? Really, is it just <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com"><em>World of Tanks</em></a> up in the air? I can't speak to the last one, but I can say that it definitely delivers on its stated design goals.
