When it was first introduced, the new combat system seemed pretty awkward and cumbersome. As with all new game systems, you just have to get used to it. Luckily, due to the extreme familiarity I have with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/fallen-earth"><em>Fallen Earth</em></a>, I adapted fairly quickly. But I didn't like it much at first. It was too healer-centric in PvP, and it was nearly impossible to die in PvE with such a large health pool and awesome self-heals. Instead of grinning and bearing it, I complained and hoped for a fix. It got fixed, and though it's not perfect, it's pretty close.<br />
<br />
In this post, I will take a look at the new system and how it differs from the old one, now that I've had some time to think it over. I'm still not sure whether I like it better than the old system yet, but it's growing on me. There's a lot of stuff that I miss from the old system and a lot of stuff I'll never miss. Knockdown and stuns are two of those things. A lot of players were worried that the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/12/wasteland-diaries-its-fixed/">new combat system</a> would take ages to tweak, but it seems like it's pretty close to the mark already. A few minor adjustments might be needed, but it's already close to a finished product from what I see. Everybody loves double-experience weekends, right? For a while now, they've been shoring up the XP gap in <a href="http://na.aiononline.com/"><em>Aion</em></a>, helping to push players over the hump of the long grind. While there's an upcoming double-experience weekend <a href="http://na.aiononline.com/board/notices/view?articleID=289&amp;page=">starting this Friday</a>, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion"><em>Aion</em></a> team has informed the community that these golden days of glory may be short-lived, with these special weekends becoming a rarer occurence in the future.<br />
<br />
This seemingly-depressing announcement is actually because <em>Aion </em>is switching from "shoring up" to "fixing" XP issues. On June 2nd, patch 1.9 will hit <em>Aion's</em> servers, and with it a host of solutions to the XP gap. The <em>Aion </em>community team <a href="http://na.aiononline.com/board/notices/view?articleID=289&amp;page=">has laid out three ways</a> the XP will flow like rivers of honey. Wait, that would be slow and sticky. Let's go with <a href="http://brands.kraftfoods.com/jello/">Jell-O</a>. In any case, 1.9 will add more quests, increased XP for quests and a new <a href="http://powerwiki.na.aiononline.com/aion/Korean+PTS:+March+3rd+Test+Server+Update+1.9+Announcement#hd73370">"Energy of Salvation"</a> system that awards experience bonuses the longer you play.<br />
<br />

The <a href="http://www.aiononline.com"><em>Aion</em></a> official site features a brief interview with producer Chris 'Kinslon' Hager regarding the forthcoming 1.9 game update. Though <a href="http://www.ncsoft.com">NCSoft</a> remains as coy as ever regarding a release date for the elusive patch, Hager manages to drop a few hints about what's coming.<br />

Perhaps most interesting (or alarming, if you're one of the eleventy billion assassins stealthing about) are the anti-stun mechanics being introduced. "<em>If your character becomes stunned in combat, Remove Shock becomes available as a chain skill that you can use to remove the stun and increase your character's resistance to stun, knock back, and similar conditions for seven seconds. At later levels, class-specific skills that you can also learn will act as chain skills that let you go on the offensive in addition to the basic abilities of Remove Shock</em>," Hager says.<br />
<br />
He also mentions rewards for the much-anticipated daily quests. "<em>The quest givers will offer are a wide range of rewards, from XP and Kinah to mist (time-limited) weapons, armor, and even some new titles</em>," he says.<br />

Yesterday <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> teased some of the upcoming features in <a href="http://www.aiononline.com"><em>Aion</em></a> patch 1.9, making daevas the world over drool their sparkling, celestial spit. However, while everyone was busy drooling, we met up with Aion's producer, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/chris-hager">Chris Hager</a>, for a more extensive look into the patch notes.<br />
<br />
Patch 1.9 has a bunch of things going for it -- from the introduction of a new "rent-a-item" system, to daily quests, to looking for group interface enhancements and more. As we said yesterday, there's over 26 pages of patch notes which will be appearing on the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion"><em>Aion</em></a> main website -- that's a huge number of fixes and changes.<br />

Thanks to <a href="http://twitter.com/aion_tamat">one crazy community manager</a> that likes to tease information, we've gotten a sneak peek at the upcoming patch information for <a href="http://www.aiononline.com"><em>Aion</em></a> -- <a href="http://na.aiononline.com/board/notices/view?articleID=225&amp;page=">patch 1.9</a>.<br />

The patch is hosting a wealth of enhancements and updates to the game that includes a new looking for group system, quest updates, a brand new daily quest system, changes to the <a href="http://www.aionopedia.com/index.php?title=Dredgion">endgame dungeon Dredgion</a>, a decrease in transportation and soul healing prices, increased experience gain, a two-handed weapon merge system, and much more. The whole thing actually totals over 26 pages of patch notes which <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> West are still translating for Western audiences.<br />
