Battling their way through a series of impressive matches, HYDRA RELOADED and Pandemic Legion made it to the final match of this year's <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/"><em>EVE Online</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/alliance-tournament-viii/">Alliance Tournament</a>. Twenty-two thousand people tuned in to watch this weekend's tournament coverage live, complete with expert commentary and guest developers chatting about what goes on behind the scenes at <a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP Games</a>. The question on everyone's mind was whether <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/20/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-champs/">reigning champions Pandemic Legion</a> would lose their title or win the tournament for a third year in a row. In a fast-paced fight that will have <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a> players talking for weeks to come, PL wiped the floor with HYDRA to secure their place once again as the absolute best team in the tournament.<br />
<br />
PL took home the <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;bid=764">first place prize</a> of 50 billion ISK, a gold medal for each participant and 50 limited edition "Adrestia" Heavy Assault Cruisers. HYDRA secured the second place prize of 25 billion ISK, a silver medal for each participant and 50 limited edition "Utu" Assault Frigates. With last year's "Freki" assault frigate prizes selling for upwards of 15 billion ISK, it's safe to say both the Adrestia and the Utu will sell for billions each on the black market. Third and fourth places went to Darkside and WE FORM VOLTRON respectively for their impressive efforts in this incredibly difficult tourament.<br />
<br />
Skip past the cut for a rundown of what happened in this final match. Alternatively, you could wait for CCP to <a href="http://at.eve-ic.net/8/index.php?view=match&amp;id=97">upload the match video</a> and see for yourself.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/pandemic-legion-dominate-eve-alliance-tournament-viii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pandemic Legion dominate EVE Alliance Tournament VIII</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/pandemic-legion-dominate-eve-alliance-tournament-viii/">Pandemic Legion dominate EVE Alliance Tournament VIII</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 11:00:00 EST. Last week, we brought you the news that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/22/confirmed-exploit-allows-eve-players-to-sneak-up-on-unsuspecting/">a terrible exploit had made itself known</a> in <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a>. The exploit allegedly involved filtering network traffic for specific packets which told the server to join the local chat channel. As a result, the player would remain hidden in the local channel and could sneak up on unsuspecting victims for an easy kill. <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1304476">Most of the controversy surrounding the exploit</a> hinges on whether or not a certain group of players from Pandemic Legion alliance had been abusing the bug to kill farmers and macros. "The MonkeySphere" and his crew have spent months killing the macro element in nullsec using an unannounced but clearly effective strategy. Suspecting him of cheating, Russian players managed to recreate a set of conditions under which a player would remain hidden from the local channel.<br />
<br />
Although posting the actual exploit details is not permitted on the official <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a> forums, the thread discussing the exploit and The MonkeySphere's alleged involvement has now exceeded 50 pages. Showing a refreshing sense of transparency, CCP opted to keep the thread open while they investigated. Players used the thread to bring forth evidence of the exploit in action and filed bug reports on the issue. On Tuesday, CCP announced that <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1308891">a hotfix for the exploit had been deployed</a> which should prevent the exploit from being used. Meanwhile, debate over The MonkeySphere's involvement with the exploit continue in <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1304476">the original discussion thread</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/29/hotfix-deployed-for-eve-online-invisibility-exploit/">Hotfix deployed for EVE Online invisibility exploit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 29 Apr 2010 16:00:00 EST. Sure, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/26/eve-online-player-run-bank-1-2-trillion-isk-in-the-red-freezes/">some of them can be risky</a>, but others have been quite successful. A few of these projects are starting to become a mainstay of the game and some players have really made a name for themselves by establishing such ventures. A good example of this is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> player T'Amber who is known for running lotteries. <em>Big</em> lotteries. The current (and fourth) "Ships of EVE" lottery that T'Amber is running is no exception and has tons of prizes, including some very rare ships in the game. Ticket prices are reasonable at 10 million ISK each, particularly in light of what can be won. <br />
<br />
1st place is a whopping 228 ship collector's fleet, featuring one of virtually every Tech I, Tech II, and Tech III ship across the game's four races, along with their faction variants (including the pirate faction ships). The collective value of this prize fleet is many billions of ISK. Just as appealing to some players as winning first prize in this lottery is coming in second -- and getting a "Mimir". Blueprints for these rare cruisers were only given to members of Pandemic Legion for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/20/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-champs/">winning EVE Alliance Tournament VII this past September</a>. Indeed, the "VII" is emblazoned on the ship's hull, commemorating the tournament victory. There are very few Mimirs in the game and Ships of EVE 4 might be the only chance most players will have of obtaining one.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/28/eve-player-run-lottery-offers-some-of-games-rarest-ships/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE player run lottery offers some of game's rarest ships</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/28/eve-player-run-lottery-offers-some-of-games-rarest-ships/">EVE player run lottery offers some of game's rarest ships</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 28 Dec 2009 10:00:00 EST. The final rounds of <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/events/alliances/tournament/t7/"><em>EVE</em> Alliance Tournament VII</a> were fought out today and only one alliance earned the right to call themselves the game's top PvPers: <a href="https://www.pandemic-legion.com/">Pandemic Legion</a>, tournament <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/08/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vi-champions/">champs for the second year in a row</a>. <br /><br />64 alliance teams entered the tournament 3 weeks ago, and today's finals culminated with Pandemic Legion facing off against <a href="http://www.eve-co2.org/">Circle-of-Two</a>. It was an entertaining final match but it was decided early on, as Pandemic Legion's stealth bombers unleashed waves of destruction upon Circle-of-Two, ultimately sealing their fate in the tournament. Pandemic Legion proved to be calculating in their tactics and ship setups this year. They successfully varied between speed fitted <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Minmatar">Minmatar</a> fleets for fast and brutal blitzes, and glass cannon <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/eve-evolved-a-stealth-bomber-adventure/">stealth bomber</a> setups for powerful alpha strikes. They remained unpredictable throughout the tournament and it paid off for them.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/20/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-champs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pandemic Legion crowned EVE Alliance Tournament VII champs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/20/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vii-champs/">Pandemic Legion crowned EVE Alliance Tournament VII champs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 20 Sep 2009 20:00:00 EST. Given how integral alliance warfare is to gameplay, <em>EVE Online</em>'s annual <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/alliance-pvp-tournament">Alliance PvP Tournament</a> is a major event each year, watched by thousands of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/eve-visual-guide-the-birth-of-new-eden/">New Eden's pilots</a>. The sixth annual Alliance PvP Tournament for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> was one of the most exciting to date. Combatants employed clever ship setups and tactics, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/massively-interviews-crovan-about-eve-alliance-pvp-tournament-vi/">commentary was excellent</a>, and there was even a bit of drama thrown into the mix in the form of a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/eve-pvp-tournament-assassination-machiavellian-or-bad-form/">player assassination during the tournament</a>. In the end it was the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/08/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vi-champions/">Pandemic Legion alliance that reigned supreme</a> and a permanent monument to their victory has been set up in the Amamake solar system, where the <a href="https://www.pandemic-legion.com/">Pandemic Legion</a> corporation Sniggerdly started out as pirates. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.eve-tribune.com/">EVE Tribune</a> writer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/miyamoto-isoruku">Miyamoto Isoruku</a> recently had a chance to interview the leader of Pandemic Legion, Shamis Orzoz. They discuss a wide range of topics, ranging from the tactics used in Alliance PvP Tournament VI to Orzoz's views on player-politics and the state of alliance warfare in New Eden. For more on how Pandemic Legion took the crown as <em>EVE</em>'s top alliance in the tournament, have a look at "<a href="http://www.eve-tribune.com/index.php?no=4_12&amp;page=2">The Champions: An Interview with Shamis Orzoz</a>" at EVE Tribune.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/eve-online-pvp-tournament-champ-on-tactics-and-player-politics/">EVE Online PvP Tournament champ on tactics and player-politics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 18 Mar 2009 12:00:00 EST. In the end, it was <a href="http://www.pandemic-legion.com">Pandemic Legion</a> who took the crown, having bested some of the game's top PvP pilots and defeating <a href="http://rur-alliance.cz/">R.U.R. alliance</a> in a tense final match.<br /><br />While the real prize is the earned right to call themselves the game's best combat pilots, Pandemic Legion reaps other rewards: a tournament cup, gold medals for the tournament pilots, and 60 <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/30_Day_Concord_Pilot_License_Extension">PLEX</a> which are essentially in-game certificates that can provide the champions with a whopping (collective) 8 years of game time. In addition, Pandemic Legion will be the first alliance ever to receive a permanent in-game monument dedicated to their victory. <br /><br />Massively extends its congratulations to Pandemic Legion <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=993804">along with the rest of the <em>EVE</em> playerbase</a>, and props to all the other alliances that competed in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pvp-tournament/"><em>EVE Online</em> Alliance Tournament VI</a>. It was an <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=993835">impressive showing</a>, and the bar is certainly raised for next year's competitors.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/08/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vi-champions/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pandemic Legion crowned EVE Alliance Tournament VI champions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/08/pandemic-legion-crowned-eve-alliance-tournament-vi-champions/">Pandemic Legion crowned EVE Alliance Tournament VI champions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 08 Feb 2009 19:00:00 EST.
