All may seem quiet on the MMO front, but if you turn your eyes to RuneScape, you'll see a bustling explosion of activity with the advent of January. Three new pieces of content are available in the game, including a new high-level boss and a Nordic-themed wolf.

If politics are your thing -- Dwarven politics, to be precise -- then you'll want to check out a brand-new quest that tasks players with discovering just who is the rightful king of the Dwarves in Keldagrim. It won't be a bloodless affair, but Jagex promises to make it worth the player's effort.

Maybe you want to test your mettle against a god? Then jump into the God Wars dungeon to face off against Nex, a powerful boss that boasts 15 unique combat moves. If you find yourself triumphant -- doubtful, really, but it is technically possible -- then you'll enjoy an array of coveted level 80 gear for your character.

Or perhaps you're in the mood for a hunt, in which case RuneScape will send you on the trail of the Hati Wolf, a seasonal boss that drops special XP-boosting gloves.

With Rift's launch looming closer by the day, forces are coming into play faster now than ever before. Trion Worlds has announced that it is partnering with Ubisoft to publish Rift in Europe. Ubisoft, which has studios in countries all across the globe, will be tasked with releasing the game in France, Benelux, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Nordics. This deal includes multiple years of service starting in 2011.

While Ubisoft has handled smaller MMOs, such as Might and Magic Heroes Kingdom, Rift represents the largest MMO client to date for the company.

Trion Worlds' CEO Lars Buttler sees this as a great move for the game: "To join forces with an industry leader such as Ubisoft on our first title further demonstrates the potential Rift has to be a game-changer in the online gaming space. We are thrilled to be working with Ubisoft, one of world's leading publishers, as we reaffirm our commitment to deliver quality products to gamers around the world."

While Ubisoft is not without its fair share of controversies, no one can deny that the publisher has clout across the market. Rift's closed beta starts later this week, and all signs still point toward an early 2011 release.

Fresh off their merger and complete with a new-ish name, Namco Bandai has announced a UK publishing deal for urban management MMO Cities XL. More specifically, the publisher is set to distribute the Monte Cristo developed title in the UK, Italy, Nordic countries, Iberica, New Zealand and Australia. Distribution elsewhere will be handled by Monte Cristo themselves.
