Just over three months ago, fans of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE Online</em></a> looked on in disbelief as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/26/eve-evolved-the-day-that-eve-online-died/">the game they loved faced its biggest crisis of confidence</a> since 2007's T20 developer scandal. The long-awaited <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/incarna/"><em>Incarna</em></a> expansion was pushed live with no multiplayer environments and only one race of captain's quarters. Players were forced to use the feature every time they docked, and it seemed that its only purpose was as a display case for overpriced cash-shop clothing. While players debated the controversial cash shop prices, a leaked company newsletter titled "Greed is Good" and a leaked memo from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> CEO Hilmar Veigar P&eacute;tursson threw additional fuel on the flames.<br />
<br />
In <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;nbid=2672">a letter to the <em>EVE Online</em> community today</a>, Hilmar delivered a humble apology for everything that happened. "The estrangement from CCP that many of you have been feeling of late is my fault, and for that I am truly sorry," he began. "In short, my zeal for pushing <em>EVE </em>to her true potential made me lose sight of doing the simple things right. I was impatient when I should have been cautious, defiant when I should have been conciliatory and arrogant when I should have been humble."<br />
<br />
The letter goes on to tackle everything from the removal of ship spinning and the release of the captain's quarters as a full expansion to CCP's plans for the future. In <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;nbid=2428">an accompanying devblog</a>, CCP Zulu provided an impressive list of in-space features aimed for the winter development period. The list includes the long-awaited hybrid weapon balance changes, assault ship bonus reworks, capital ship rebalancing, and even iteration on faction warfare.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/05/ccp-games-ceo-issues-letter-of-apology-to-eve-online-players/">CCP Games CEO issues letter of apology to EVE Online players</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 15:00:00 EST. <em>Captain's Log, Stardate 65093.1</em><em>...</em><br />
<br />
Hello, computer (and players)! In the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online/" target="_blank"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> universe, fleets are the foundation that ensures ones' in-game (and even out-of-game) experience is one that is active, social, and fulfilling. Whether you enjoy PvP, Special Task Forces, role play, or a combo of all the above, there should be a fleet out there for you to call home. But, what do you do if you can not find one that suits your warp core? Well, you start your own! That's right! Gather your friends (or make new ones), visit the fleet contact on Earth Space Dock, think up a clever name, and click that "create" button.<br />
<br />
Okay, okay -- I make it sound a lot easier than it actually is. Building a fleet takes a lot of work, time and dedication, but is possible with the right spirit at the helm. Then, just when you have it built, successfully running it becomes an even bigger challenge. During this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/captains-log/" target="_blank">Captain's Log</a>, I am going to take you on a tour of duty as we explore a possible structuring to your future fleet. Based off of one of the most successful fleets in-game, <a href="http://stonewallfleet.com/" target="_blank">Stonewall Fleet</a>, which has had over 1,400 members sign-up for membership, let's take a look at the roles they have in place to make it all happen.<br />
<br />
<em>Ensign, warp 10! Let's help our readers create the perfect structure to their fleet...</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/captains-log-building-a-successful-fleet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Captain's Log: Building a successful fleet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/captains-log-building-a-successful-fleet/">Captain's Log: Building a successful fleet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 13:00:00 EST. 	<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/pressconf.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
After what should have been the celebrated release of the long-awaited <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Incarna">Incarna</a></em> expansion last week, the <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> community erupted into flames. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/controversy-brewing-over-eve-online-microtransactions/">controversy began</a> when players realised that the vanity clothing items in the game's new cash shop were ridiculously overpriced. The $68 monocle became a centerpiece that the media latched onto, in the same way that <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> made the headlines when <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard-entertainment/">Blizzard</a> had the audacity <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/16/anti-aliased-shut-up-people-come-buy-my-horse/">to sell a $25 mount</a>.<br />
<br />
The story should have ended there as a piece about a crazy Icelandic game company selling virtual clothing for more than real clothing. Unfortunately, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/rumour-leaked-document-shows-ccps-microtransaction-plans/">some conveniently timed leaks</a> from inside CCP caused this simple issue to escalate to the point of panic, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/25/eve-online-controversy-erupts-in-protests/">causing in-game riots</a> and a significant number of subscription cancellations. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/26/eve-evolved-the-day-that-eve-online-died/">The company's silence</a> on the simple question of whether non-vanity microtransactions would be introduced was seen as an admission that gameplay-affecting items would end up in the cash shop.<br />
<br />
CCP flew the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/council-of-stellar-management/">Council of Stellar Management</a>, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/">EVE</a></em>'s democratically-elected player representative body, out to Iceland for an emergency meeting last week. The result of the meeting was a joint statement between CCP and the CSM <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/02/ccp-responds-to-monoclegate-reaches-consensus-with-players/">addressing all of the major concerns</a> players had. Last night, CCP ran two press conferences over Skype to give <em>EVE</em> fansites and the gaming media a chance to ask additional questions that weren't covered in the official statement. Skip past the cut for our in-depth three-page transcript from the gaming media press conference, including answers to several pressing questions sent in by Massively readers and some great issues raised by other participating members of the press. I think it's safe to say that this week has been an unmitigated disaster for <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a>. Following <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/19/eve-evolved-third-party-development/">last week's $99 license fee fiasco</a> for third-party developers, <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ccp-zulu">CCP Zulu</a> managed to claw back some player support with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/we-hear-you-loud-and-clear-ccp-clarifies-third-party-applicat/">a segment addressing the issue</a> during the alliance tournament. This week CCP followed up with the release of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/incarna/"><em>Incarna</em></a> 1.0 and its long-awaited captain's quarters. Players logged in to walk around their private rooms and check out the various cosmetic items available for purchase in the new microtransaction store.<br />
<br />
It didn't take long for people to realise that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/controversy-brewing-over-eve-online-microtransactions/">something was fundamentally wrong with the prices</a> on the Noble Exchange. At around $40 for a basic shirt, $25 for boots, and $70 or more for the fabled monocle, items in the Noble Exchange were priced higher than their-real life counterparts. As players made some noise about the ridiculous prices, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/rumour-leaked-document-shows-ccps-microtransaction-plans/">an internal CCP newsletter</a> all about the company's microtransaction plans was purportedly leaked. In it, plans to sell ships, ammo, and faction standings for cash were revealed, plans that strictly contradict <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/23/eve-online-microtransactions-wont-impact-gameplay/">previous promises</a> on gameplay-affecting microtransactions. Shortly afterward, all hell broke loose as <a href="http://www.evenews24.com/2011/06/25/ccp-hilmar-global-email-shows-the-reasoning-behind-ccp-zulu-devblog/">a private internal memo from CCP</a> CEO <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ccp-hilmar">Hilmar</a> was leaked to the press.<br />
<br />
In the past few days, I've been contacted by dozens (if not hundreds) of concerned <a href="http://www.eveonline.com"><em>EVE</em></a> players who are afraid that the game they love is coming to an end. I've even been in contact with an insider who is scared of the risks CCP is taking with the jobs of over 600 employees in four countries, scared enough to leak internal documents and emails. Plenty of game developers have a newsletter, and while <a href="http://www.massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom</a> is joining that crowd, the company is stepping it up with separate newsletters tailored to its various player groups.<br />
<br />
The newsletter for <a href="http://www.thesecretworld.com/"><em>The Secret World</em></a> comes in several varieties: a generic one for anyone not already aligned with a secret society, and others "<em>specifically branded for your secret society.</em>"<br />
<br />
What will they contain? Funcom promises a focus on the newest screenshots, art, and videos as well as news and interviews. The <a href="http://cdn.funcom.com/tsw/crm/mar11/generic/index.html">first generic newsletter</a> is on the site now, but future issues will include the branded versions as well. Not already a member of a secret society? <a href="http://www.massively.joystiq.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em></a>'s <a href="http://www.thesecretworld.com/community/initiation">initiation test</a> is still available for players who wish to align themselves and receive the newsletters.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/funcom-introduces-the-secret-world-newsletter/">Funcom introduces The Secret World newsletter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 11:00:00 EST. <div>
	Dark humor has always been an important part of the Fallout series, being especially obvious in the first two Fallout games that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Interplay/">Interplay</a> developed before selling the single-player game's rights to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Bethesda/">Bethesda</a>. Now, with the fourth edition of the <a href="http://www.fallout-on-line.com/"><em>Fallout Online</em></a> newsletter, <a href="http://www.interplay.com/foonl/po/foo400.html">The Armageddon Rag</a>, we're not only treated to some typically dark and twisted storytelling but given a peek at some of the weapons that we'll see in the wastes.<br />
	<br />
	Along with the 9mm Burreyetta Model 86d seen above, there are other deliciously wicked-looking bits of weaponry concept art to check out, such as the Chemblaster 3000 CDS, a special stimpak that insists "even the dead will rise" when it is used, and slightly more familiar weapons like the AKA-47. Between the art and the descriptions, we're sure any post-apocalyptic fan waiting for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Fallout-Online/">Fallout Online</a></em> will find goodness to geek out on. Just don't greeble on yourself, OK?</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/fallout-online-newsletter-tells-stories-and-shows-off-new-weapon/">Fallout Online newsletter tells stories and shows off new weapons</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 28 Feb 2011 19:00:00 EST. <em>"Realm vs. Realm combat is what keeps you here year after year,"</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/stuart-zissu/">Stuart Zissu</a> concludes in the <em><a href="http://www.darkageofcamelot.com/">Dark Age of Camelot's</a> </em><a href="http://www.camelotherald.com/jan_producers_letter/">January newsletter</a>. Because of this fact, Zissu reassures players that <a href="http://www.mythicentertainment.com/">Mythic</a> is firmly committed to strengthening and focusing on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dark-age-of-camelot/"><em>DAoC's</em></a> RvR in 2011.<br />
<br />
Zissu first addresses a number of important issues that the team is tackling, such as lag ghosting. Realm abilities are also being adjusted to include several additional levels. While these new levels won't add to the overall strength of the abilities, they do allow players to fine-tune just how much (or little) of these abilities they want to have. A few of the realm abilities will be improved on a case-by-case basis, however.<br />
<br />
He also highlights the next upcoming live event, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/07/demonic-live-events-returning-to-dark-age-of-camelot/">which will revolve around the return of demonic invasions</a>. Those wacky demons -- like frat boys out of control, they are!<br />
<a href="http://www.camelotherald.com/jan_producers_letter/"><br />

<br />
If you couldn't tell, this is the maiden voyage of Massively's weekly column devoted to <a href="http://www.trionworlds.com/en/">Trion World's</a> upcoming MMO, <a href="http://www.riftgame.com/en/"><em>RIFT</em></a>. We've been excited about this game for a while now, and with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/22/rift-beta-massivelys-first-impressions/">the NDA drop</a>, the announcement of the launch date, news of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/28/trion-details-rift-collectors-edition/">the collector's edition</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/03/trion-announces-next-rift-beta-event-showcasing-warfronts/">upcoming beta events</a>, it's as good a time as any to start talking about this addictive fantasy experience. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/editor/karen-bryan">Karen Bryan</a> and I will be trading off weeks to cover <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift/"><em>RIFT</em></a> from our different vantage points, and we're pretty geeked at the prospect.<br />
<br />
To kick off the very first <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/enter-at-your-own-rift/">Enter at Your Own Rift</a>, we'll be following the Massively tradition of posting a community guide to all the hottest and most helpful links about this game after the jump.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/05/enter-at-your-own-rift-community-guide-to-rift/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Enter at Your Own Rift: Community guide to RIFT</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/05/enter-at-your-own-rift-community-guide-to-rift/">Enter at Your Own Rift: Community guide to RIFT</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 05 Jan 2011 10:00:00 EST. Several of us here at Massively are avid fans of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_%28series%29"><em>Fallout</em></a> franchise and have even been cheating on our MMOs with a bit of New Vegas action over the last few weeks. It should come as no surprise, then, that we keep a keen eye out for news of <a href="http://www.interplay.com/">Interplay's</a> upcoming <a href="http://www.fallout-on-line.com/"><em>Fallout Online</em></a> MMO. The latest tidbit arrived in our inboxes today in the form of the third issue of The Armageddon Rag, a faux in-character newsletter that purports to inform the reader of various happenings from around the wasteland. Unlike previous issues, this one comes "electronically" in the form of a <a href="http://www.interplay.com/foonl/aw/foo000301.html">Pip Pad</a>.<br />
<br />
The latest issue of Rag doesn't pay tribute to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Armageddon_Rag">George R.R. Martin</a> (as you might expect from the title) but instead features three news blurbs designed to give you a little post-apocalyptic flavor and perhaps drop a few hints to those in the know. It's also worth mentioning that you can sign up for the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/fallout-online"><em>Fallout Online</em></a> beta by registering for the newsletter on the <a href="http://www.fallout-on-line.com/">official site</a>.<br />

<a href="http://www.enmasse.com">En Masse Entertainment</a> Senior Community Manager Scapes brings word of the first issue of <a href="http://tera-online.com/forums/showthread.php?p=103494#post103494">The Velika Guardian</a>, a weekly newsletter designed to keep readers abreast of all that's new and happening in the world of <a href="http://www.tera-online.com"><em>TERA</em></a>. The newsletter, basically an ongoing forum thread that features a collection of relevant updates (as selected by the dev team) from the previous week, can be found on the game's <a href="http://tera-online.com/forums/">official boards</a>.<br />
<br />
For the debut issue, Scapes highlights Patrick Wyatt's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/03/teras-patrick-wyatt-talks-security-rmt/">TERAHispano.com</a> interview, the recently released Focus Group Test 2 <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/11/tera-fgt2-gameplay-feedback-detailed/">Postmortem</a>, and Sam Kim's interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/teras-sam-kim-talks-pvp-battlefield-questing/">TERAGamers.de</a>.<br />

The end of April is nearly upon us, so of course it's time for <a href="http://na.square-enix.com">Square-Enix</a> to release <a href="http://na.square-enix.com/ffxi/newsletter/39/">their most recent newsletter</a> for <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> highlighting the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/massivelys-tour-of-final-fantasy-xis-march-update/">still-fresh March update</a>. Admittedly, the content doesn't quite have that new patch smell any longer, but the newsletter does its usual job of rounding up and pointing out some of the things that the players might otherwise miss. It also contains a cryptic hint from the development team in response to one of the biggest mysteries and frustrations for the update.<br />
<br />
In the "good news" department, the newsletter highlights a current sale for the game, <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=76134">$11 for the <em>Final Fantasy XI </em>Ultimate Collection</a> at <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/">Gamestop</a> via download. It also mentions the somewhat baffling habit that the new <a href="http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Voidwalker_Notorious_Monsters">Voidwalker Notorious Monsters</a> have of not always granting a title to players who kill them, with the development team teasing that "<em>you will all discover the answer soon enough</em>." Last but not least, it reminds former players that the <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/crs/">Character Reactivation Service</a> is set up to work with characters from the now-merged servers -- a chance for lapsed <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XI/">Final Fantasy XI</a></em> players to get <a href="http://na.square-enix.com/ffxi/newsletter/39/">back in on the action</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/29/final-fantasy-xi-releases-april-newsletter/">Final Fantasy XI releases April newsletter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 29 Apr 2010 10:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic">Mythic</a> seems to be having a tough go of it lately what with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/09/rumor-80-more-layoffs-hit-mythic/">layoffs</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/24/warhammer-online-merges-two-more-servers/">server merges</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/producer-letter-addresses-the-future-of-warhammer-online/">ominous producer letters</a>. They're continuing their hard work in <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/index.php"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>, however, and the most recent newsletter shows it.<br />
<br />
The first order of business was patch 1.3.3. It's expected shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend is over, and will implement some exciting changes for new and veteran players. This patch will implement the War Report, which is pretty much what it sounds like. Every 8 hours, a "snapshot" of events going on around the world will be made available, with the opportunity to teleport instantly to the closest area of interest. The other big change is the Underdog System. Underdogs will be granted what amounts to a handicap that makes it easier for underpopulated realms to take objectives and cap zones. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/"><em>WAR</em></a> will also be bringing a few graphical improvements with this patch, including post-processing effects and HDR Lighting, and the team is preparing for an event all seasoned players look forward to: <a href="http://herald.warhammeronline.com/liveevents/2009KegEnd.php">Keg End</a>. If you aren't already receiving the <em>Warhammer Online</em> newsletter, you can <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/newslettersignup/">subscribe at their official site</a>.<br />

The sci-fi MMO <a href="http://www.blackprophecy.com"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a> from developer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/reakktor-media">Reakktor Media</a> still has a few significant <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/massively-speaks-with-black-prophecy-development-director-simon/">hurdles to clear before release</a>, but it's looking to be an interesting title from the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/black-prophecy-trailer-offers-a-first-look-at-gameplay-experienc/">gameplay footage we've seen</a> thus far. As they continue to develop <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/black-prophecy"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a> and seek a publisher to help them expand their reach into multiple markets, <a href="http://www.reakktor.com">Reakktor Media</a> has been updating the community on the game's status. <br />
<br />
They've just released their <a href="http://newsletter.blackprophecy-game.com/8/en/bp_nl_8_en.html">eighth <em>Black Prophecy</em> newsletter</a> that hits on the media coverage they've received in the last month (along with the latest art assets), a look into <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/the-art-direction-of-black-prophecys-gearheads/">the game's art direction</a>, and the "<a href="http://forum.blackprophecy-game.com/showthread.php?t=429">Pimp My Ship!</a>" that's happening on the official forums. Also, if you're curious about what will differentiate this game from other sci-fi MMOs currently on the market, be sure to have a look through <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/black-prophecy">Massively's <em>Black Prophecy</em> coverage</a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/">Black Prophecy</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4247000"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tyishadowdrone04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246999"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246998"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246996"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screenshot68483896171313173600_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246995"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/frigateaurelia03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/">Black Prophecy Concept Art</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516651"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516658"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/31/black-prophecy-newsletter-updates-fans-on-the-game/">Black Prophecy newsletter updates fans on the game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 31 Oct 2009 20:00:00 EST. Predominantly featured are <a href="http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=945">the 1.3.2 updates</a>, which most of us already know about including the removal of fortresses, a new keep difficulty system, client performance improvements, and of course, the <a href="http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=934">New User Journey</a>. Check out the <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/home/flash/2009_10_Patch132.html">video podcast</a> with producers <a href="http://massively.com/tag/jeff-skalski">Jeff Skalski</a> and <a href="http://massively.com/tag/josh-drescher">Josh Drescher</a> for a full run down.<br />
<br />
A couple interesting bits stuck out for us. First, <a href="http://www.weritsblog.com/2009/10/war-unveils-new-free-trial.html">as Werit points out</a>, <a href="http://massively.com/tag/mythic-entertainment">Mythic</a> has removed the 10-day time limitation on their free trial. Players can now experience all of what tier one has to offer without worrying about a looming deadline. This should work out quite nicely with the New User Journey. We also noticed the release of a new Warhammer-themed <a href="http://www.tcgplayer.com/db/game_review.asp?AID=2231&amp;PID=336&amp;DBID=4">living card game</a> by Fantasy Flight Games called <a href="http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=85&amp;esem=1">Warhammer Invasion</a>. This should be of interest to those who just can't get enough order or destruction in their day.<br />

The devs over at <a href="http://ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> have just <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2991&amp;table=CONTENT">posted</a> their August newsletter on the game's official website. In it they look back over the last month and the announcement of the new <a href="http://massively.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>AoC</em></a> expansion, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/funcom-announces-rise-of-the-godslayer-expansion-for-age-of-cona/"><em>Rise of the Godslayer</em></a>, as well as clarifying some titbits about the new expansion. This includes thanking players for their feedback and explaining why they chose to venture to <a href="http://conan.wikia.com/wiki/Khitai">Khitai</a> (the <em>Conan</em>-version of China) over other lands featured in the original books. The devs also touch on the fascinating subject of world design and how player feedback has shaped the new armor they are working on.<br /><br />The most interesting nugget in the newsletter is a sneak peak at what the immediate future holds for <em>AoC</em> in the form of the 1.06 update. This includes the possibility of splitting the update into parts rather than deluging players with a giant patch. They also look at the new level 80 dungeon, the House of Crom, the Veterans System and Tier Three Raiding. So if you're an <em>AoC</em> player excited about the new expansion and the next big update, you might want to head over to the official site and check out the <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2991&amp;table=CONTENT">newsletter</a> for yourself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/31/age-of-conan-devs-release-their-august-newsletter/">Age of Conan devs release their August newsletter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 31 Aug 2009 20:00:00 EST. This tenth newsletter mentions how their current development focus is on the game's crafting system, which they've said will allow for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/earthrise-question-of-the-week-is-a-call-to-crafters/">a high degree of customization</a>, allowing skilled players to become well-known among their peers for their particular creations. There's also a fair amount of coverage of some of the various <em>Earthrise</em> community efforts, ranging from fansites to player-created art, as well as a media coverage recap. There's definitely a few things in there worth checking out if you're interested in keeping up with <em>Earthrise</em>. <br /><br />While Masthead Studios may not feel <em>quite</em> this way about the game, this writer feels that <em>Earthrise</em> has some of the makings of a terrestrial <a href="http://www.eveonline.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a>: a sandbox setting; guild-level <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/territorial-control">world and resource control</a> in what are now called 'Concession grounds'; and hopefully with that, player politics. If they can develop <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise</em></a> along these lines, we suspect it could prove to be popular with fans of both sci-fi and post-apocalyptic games.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/earthrise-gallery/">Earthrise</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/earthrise-gallery/#4547436"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/vehicle02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/earthrise-gallery/#4547438"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/vehicle06.tints_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/earthrise-gallery/#4547437"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/vehicle05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/earthrise-gallery/#4072506"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/vehicle2frame_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/earthrise-gallery/#4072505"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/vehicle1frame_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/18/earthrise-newsletter-issue-x-updates-players-on-games-state-of/">Earthrise newsletter Issue X updates players on game's state of development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 18 Jun 2009 17:00:00 EST. As with their previous newsletters, Issue IX points out where <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise</em></a> has been discussed in the gaming press over the past few weeks, and shows off some of the game's concept art. This month, <a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com/">Masthead Studios</a> is showing off concepts for the mutated Nathura zone.<br /><br />In addition, the developers write about what they love about <em>Earthrise</em> and working on the title -- ranging from the game's epic scale to the extensive combat system. Issue IX also expands upon the game's lore, with the struggle between the factions of Noir and Continoma, a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/earthrise-lore-features-clash-between-utopian-idealism-and-anarc/">clash between utopian idealism and anarchy</a>. Free jewelery aside, the newsletter also contains a great deal of information about what's coming in <em><a href="http://www.ageofconan.com">Age of Conan</a>'s</em> Update 4, and a video of the new dungeon Xibaluku to boot. Xibaluku is intended for a full group of max-level players, and will be situated in the Thunder River area. After reading about it in the newsletter, you can <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=online&amp;utm_campaign=Clan_of_Conan&amp;utm_content=issue20&amp;func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2749&amp;table=CONTENT">click the "read more" link</a> for an in-depth writeup of the dungeon.<br /><br />Players won't just be free to walk into Xibaluku. They'll first need to complete <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=online&amp;utm_campaign=Clan_of_Conan&amp;utm_content=issue20&amp;func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2750&amp;table=CONTENT">a new solo dungeon called The Slaughterhouse Cellar</a>, also located in Thunder River and to be released in Update 4. Those that venture deep enough into Xibaluku might find one of two new Undead social pets that are being introduced to the game, which are good for "spreading gloom and dreadfulness", and probably scaring newbies in town. <br /><br />Expect the PvP system to receive some tweaking in Update 4 too, <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=online&amp;utm_campaign=Clan_of_Conan&amp;utm_content=issue20&amp;func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2751&amp;table=CONTENT">with the "PvP resources" system set to debut</a>. If you're holding PvP resources to bring to an architect and get player-killed, you have a chance of them being looted by your assassin. Architects will need the resources to build and repair battlekeeps, and the hope is that epic battles will take place over the humble gathering nodes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/21/clan-of-conan-previews-update-4-and-xibaluku/">Clan of Conan previews Update 4 and Xibaluku</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 21 Dec 2008 15:00:00 EST. While it's not as &uuml;ber as the items obtainable at higher levels, it's not bad for a freebie. <em>Age of Conan</em> players can claim the Kosalan talisman by simply typing "/claim" in-game.<hr />

One such title is <a href="http://www.play-earthrise.com"><em>Earthrise</em></a>, set in the final refuge of humanity following the rest of the planet's annihilation. Although the game is still in a pre-beta stage of development, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise</em></a> developers, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/masthead-studios">Masthead Studios</a>, have been providing status updates to its growing community through monthly newsletters. <br /><br />Issue VII of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Earthrise</span> newsletter is up, and <a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com/">Masthead Studios</a> has some good news for all of the beta hopefuls out there. There will be several stages of beta invites, and they'll begin accepting beta applications at the end of December. First up is a 'friends and family' stage, which will be followed by the first round of closed beta. The message stressed in the announcement is that Masthead Studios is really looking to the community to help them work out bugs and gameplay issues to make <em>Earthrise</em> into a solid title.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/earthrise-beta-signups-begin-late-december/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Earthrise beta signups begin late December</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/earthrise-beta-signups-begin-late-december/">Earthrise beta signups begin late December</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 15 Dec 2008 16:00:00 EST. There has been a noticeable lag in times past between the schedule for these quarterly newsletters and when they were actually distributed. October saw the release of the <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;bid=594">Quarterly Economic Newsletter for Q1</a> of this year and the promise of QENs for quarters 2 and 3 to follow in November and December, respectively.</p>
<p>Today, we'll take a look through what Dr. Gundmondsson has to say about the economy from January to March. I do encourage you to look through the PDF of the QEN for yourself ... and just ignore that they talk about June 2008 in future tense.<br /></p><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/making-money-eve-economic-review-reviewed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Making/Money: EVE Economic Review Reviewed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/making-money-eve-economic-review-reviewed/">Making/Money: EVE Economic Review Reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 17 Nov 2008 10:00:00 EST. And why wouldn't it be? <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/all-points-bulletin"><em>APB</em></a> may very well be a refreshing change from the tried-and-true marriage of fantasy and massively multiplayer games, and is one of the first <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/crime ">urban crime MMOs</a> we can see on the horizon. <br /><br />The most recent <a href="http://www.apb.com/Newsletter/October/OCTOBER-NewsletterF.html "><em>All Points Bulletin</em> newsletter</a> addresses some of the input from <em>APB's</em> growing fan community on the types of weapons available, mini-games, and leisure activities they feel should be in the game. <a href="http://www.realtimeworlds.com/">Realtime Worlds</a> confirms that a few of the player-suggested features will, in fact, be present in the title.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/all-points-bulletin-newsletter-updates-fans-on-game-features/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>All Points Bulletin newsletter updates fans on game features</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/all-points-bulletin-newsletter-updates-fans-on-game-features/">All Points Bulletin newsletter updates fans on game features</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 19:00:00 EST. The first <em><a href="http://www.jumpgateevolution.com">Jumpgate Evolution</a></em> <a href="http://www.jumpgateevolution.com/newsletter_signup.php">community newsletter</a> is out now and with it some <a href="http://www.jumpgateevolution.com/wallpapers.php">new wallpapers</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/jumpgate-evolution-gallery/1144433/">a few new screenshots</a> and a peek at the Solrain Sector. While there's no big feature announcements or flashy "podcast production" videos, it's also the first newsletter, so we're being understanding. The Solrain Sector information is thin, but we do get this image of <a href="http://www.jumpgateevolution.com/wallpapers/TheInferno-1152x864.jpg">a blazing planet bursting at its seems</a>.<br /><br />We're certainly looking forward to future newsletters and the information that they'll divulge onto the community at large. The past has taught us that people respond really well when newsletters are bristling with information of varying degrees, so hopefully this is just a warm-up for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/NetDevil/">NetDevil</a>. The earlier and more frequently they're able to communicate with potential players, the stronger <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Jumpgate-Evolution">Jumpgate Evolution's</a></em> community is going to become.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/jumpgate-evolution-gallery/">Jumpgate Evolution Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/jumpgate-evolution-gallery/#2077379"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/june14_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/jumpgate-evolution-gallery/#2077378"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/june13_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/jumpgate-evolution-gallery/#2077377"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/june12_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/jumpgate-evolution-gallery/#2077376"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/june11_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/jumpgate-evolution-gallery/#2077371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/june8_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/issue-one-of-jumpgate-evolution-newsletter-gates-into-view/">Issue one of Jumpgate Evolution newsletter 'gates' into view</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 07 Nov 2008 15:00:00 EST. That gives us a time frame of just under two months!<br /><br />What do they still need to tweak before the beta launches? As a recap: the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/ccp-games-announces-quantum-rise-expansion-for-eve-online/"><em>Quantum Rise</em> expansion</a> was announced, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/certificates-and-medals-coming-to-eve-online/">new features</a> are on the way, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/new-eve-online-video-advances-backstory/ ">backstory was advanced</a> through a new video, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/ccp-games-kills-ghost-training-on-inactive-eve-accounts/">controversy and even outright rage ensued</a> over disabling ghost training, a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/quarterly-economic-newsletter-for-eve-online-released/">Quarterly Economic Newsletter</a> was released, and there have been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/real-world-economic-impact-on-mmos-and-virtual-worlds/">concerns over the future of <em>EVE</em></a> given Iceland's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/ceo-of-ccp-games-addresses-eves-continuity-through-turbulent-ti/">economic woes. </a><br /><br />While some of these news items are mentioned in the latest <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/community/newsletters/vol022.html"><em>EVE Online</em> newsletter</a> (aside from the ghost training fiasco), <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> has also given some attention to the <em>EVE</em> community itself, something Massively has been been taking note of as well. It seems our friend and <em>EVE</em> community puppetmaster David Perry <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com ">(aka CrazyKinux)</a> has just gotten the nod from <a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP</a> for his latest effort.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/ccp-games-highlights-community-efforts-of-eve-bloggers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CCP Games highlights community efforts of EVE bloggers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/ccp-games-highlights-community-efforts-of-eve-bloggers/">CCP Games highlights community efforts of EVE bloggers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 17:30:00 EST. One would imagine this is no easy task, with an overall trade value of all <em>EVE</em> markets ranging between 2 and 2.5 trillion isk per day. Lead Economist CCP Dr. EyjoG <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;bid=594">released a Quarterly Economic Newsletter</a> (QEN) for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> today, which is 18 pages full of data which should keep <em>EVE's</em> market and industry-oriented players happy (and hopefully make up for the delayed QEN, which Dr. EyjoG addresses in his announcement). <br /><br />The Q1 2008 QEN kicks off with an editorial, and here are some brief highlights of what follows: <br />
<ul>
    <li>Demographics (number of accounts, most and least populated regions)</li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>Price Level Changes (Mineral prices, Primary Producer Price Index, Secondary Producer Price Index, and Consumer Price Index)</li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>Mining ship production and losses (with the venerable "Hulk" exhumer losses accounting for a staggering 6 trillion isk in destroyed property in Q1 2008) </li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>Market Snapshots</li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>Five years of EVE Market history</li>
</ul>

It turns out that they've acquired Mentor Media, creators of a custom <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> newsletter called <a href="http://www.azerothadvisor.com/newsletter/aboutus">Azeroth Advisor,</a> which offers personalized information about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>WoW</em></a> as it pertains to your own character. For three years the newsletter has been the company's most reliable way of releasing information to players, and now ... it's all out there for people to see. This latest edition is first and foremost a chance for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic-entertainment">Mythic Entertainment</a> to toot their own horn; their list of credits for both the newsletter itself and <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> appear in its pages. There are some new pieces of info as well, though, and they're definitely worth checking out. <br /><br />If you've been wondering what <a href="http://www.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=15089">all the exclusive in-game items</a> you can get are, they've got a list that runs them all down. Note that their list doesn't include the items you could have gotten by preordering a copy of the game, though. There's also <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.net/war/us/home/flash/2008_08_PAXTrailer.html">a brand-new in-game trailer</a>, the counterpart to the Order-focused one they offered up in the last edition of the Newsletter. They note the Road to WAR has reached its end, and <a href="http://www.road-to-war.com/">fun stats from the competition</a> are still on the page. Check out the newsletter for all this, plus details on game time cards and a bunch more.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/21/warhammer-online-september-newsletter-released/">Warhammer Online September newsletter released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 21 Sep 2008 16:00:00 EST. Still, it's one that's holding the interest of a small but growing community, waiting to see if the game will offer an experience that's a far cry from a fantasy MMO. In making the game a departure from the fantasy genre, the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise">Earthrise</a></em> creators at <a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com">Masthead Studios</a> have been fleshing out the game's lore and relaying it to potential fans <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/17/earthrise-newsletter-updates-fans-on-titles-progress/">through its own newsletters</a> and some media exclusives, at <a href="http://rpgvault.ign.com/">IGN's RPG Vault</a> in particular. <br /><br />IGN continues its series of <em>Earthrise</em> previews, focusing on the lore of the post-apocalyptic setting. That is to say the old world is dead, wiped out in World War III. Those who weren't part of the Continoma-selected elite are either ash or reduced to slavering mutants prowling Enterra in search of their next meal. The previous piece titled <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/an-early-look-at-the-lore-of-earthrise/">Continoma: The Beginning</a></em> focused on the corporate entity that rose to power and came to rule what was left of the earth following the near-annihilation of human society. IGN now looks at what happened after the burn in <em>"Continoma: The Rebirth."</em> <a href="http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/899/899781p1.html">Check out their piece</a> for the full story on the pioneers of <em>Earthrise</em> who work to rebuild society to utopian standards, and the anarchists who resist the order of this new establishment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/earthrise-lore-features-clash-between-utopian-idealism-and-anarc/">Earthrise lore features clash between utopian idealism and anarchy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 01 Sep 2008 20:00:00 EST. The folks at Mythic have made it a great one, so buckle up for <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/newsletterarchive/2008/August2008.html">another big helping of WAR goodness</a>.<br />
<ul>
    <li>With the game coming out so soon there's a lot of 'business' to discuss. There's a reminder that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/warhammer-online-na-open-beta-begins-september-7th/">Open Beta begins September 7th</a>, and that characters played in the Open won't transfer to live service. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/warhammer-online-nda-lifts-august-19th/">The NDA has lifted</a>, of course, and there are a few notes about what that means. They also reveal that there will be pre-paid game time cards available at launch, in 30 and 60-day increments.</li>
    <li>The <a href="http://www.road-to-war.com/">Road to WAR is officially underway</a>, and the newsletter discusses a bit about what they want to do with this unique marketing campaign.</li>
    <li>They <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/new-cinematic-warhammer-trailer-pulls-out-all-the-stops/">link to that fantastic CG trailer</a>, offering everyone <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/home/flash/WAR_cinematic_08.html">another look at the forces of Order and Destruction</a> in action. <br /></li>
    <li>They offer up a brand new video, <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/home/flash/2008_08_LeipzigTrailer.html">a trailer for the forces of Order</a> talking about brotherhood and the ongoing war they're undertaking.</li>
    <li>There's <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/home/flash/pp_2008_08_outtakes.html">a brand-new production podcast</a> as well, this one consisting entirely of outtakes. Overall it's a bit weak, but you have to stay to the end for outtakes from Mark Jacobs' appearance on the cast and Josh Drescher's hilarious impression of Paul Barnett. Well worth the wait.</li>
    <li>A German fan trailer <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/home/flash/2008_08_GermanFanTrailer.html">shows off the might and majesty of the city of Altdorf</a>, and the dedication of the forces of Order.</li>
    <li>There are <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/specialfeatures/Scenarios_101_8.php">preview articles about RvR scenarios</a> (Thunder Valley and Logrin's Forge) and <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/specialfeatures/Lost_Vale.php">a look deep into the dungeon known as The Lost Vale</a> with an in-world fiction piece.</li>
    <li>There's tons more, including <a href="http://www.blacklibrary.com/pdf/empire-chaos.pdf">a snippet from the new <em>Warhammer Online</em> novel</a>, Beta reports, <a href="http://warherald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=171">player after-action writeups</a>, more class mastery details, pre-order information ... etc.</li>
</ul>

It's become standard for the <a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com">Masthead</a> newsletters to profile members of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise</em></a> team. This time it's Composer Pavel Benov who's featured. He talks about how he drew upon his punk and hardcore roots to create <em>Earthrise's</em> soundtrack, which will be a fusion of experimental ambient and industrial. <br /><br />There are also some highlights of the previous month's coverage of the post-apocalyptic title. But most of the revelations come through their Community Manager, Moll, who touches upon where <em>Earthrise</em> is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/earthrise-newsletter-sheds-more-light-on-the-road-to-beta/">in terms of beta testing.</a> In addition, 'Issue IV' of the <em>Earthrise</em> newsletter has more concept art from the Eastern Gardens Creatures, showing off the npc spawns that will be devouring players when the game goes into beta, which Moll says will be later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/17/earthrise-newsletter-updates-fans-on-titles-progress/">Earthrise newsletter updates fans on title's progress</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 17 Aug 2008 10:00:00 EST. Of course, many players aren't willing to enlist in a militia and be under a constant wardec by their factional enemies, and simply prefer to mission run for their agents. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> announced that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/15/eve-online-dev-blog-new-missions-galore/">new content was in the works,</a> back in June, but the latest <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> Newsletter has an <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/community/newsletters/vol020.html">updated announcement</a> on this from Lead Content Creator, Scott Holden. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP</a> is getting closer to releasing new PvE mission content, Holden says, with Content Creation now based in Atlanta. This will be sped up by new staff on the Content Creation team in addition to the existing freelance writers already turning out <em>EVE</em> mission content. Holden says that new types of missions are coming to New Eden, and hints at 'epic mission arcs'.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/eve-lead-content-creator-discusses-new-missions/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Lead Content Creator discusses new missions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/eve-lead-content-creator-discusses-new-missions/">EVE Lead Content Creator discusses new missions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 13 Aug 2008 19:00:00 EST. We've <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/physics-engine-grounds-earthrise-players/">read about the game itself</a> in recent months, but until now little has been known about the people behind the scenes who are working to make <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise">Earthrise</a></em> a reality. The newsletter features an introduction to the members of the <em>Earthrise</em> development team at Masthead Studios in the form of a short Q&amp;A for each developer. <br /><br />Each of the devs discusses what brought them to work on the project, their influences, and what they do at Masthead Studios to further the creation of <em>Earthrise.</em> There's also <a href="http://www.play-earthrise.com/newsletter/002/scr_01.jpg">screenshots of a new area</a> on Enterra called <a href="http://www.play-earthrise.com/newsletter/002/scr_02.jpg">The Nest</a> and a hyperlinked recap of <em>Earthrise's</em> media coverage in the last month. But the real focus of the <em>Earthrise</em> newsletters is on the community, and a number of issues are showcased in the latest iteration.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/12/earthrise-newsletter-introduces-dev-team-and-their-influences/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Earthrise newsletter introduces dev team and their influences</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/12/earthrise-newsletter-introduces-dev-team-and-their-influences/">Earthrise newsletter introduces dev team and their influences</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 12 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST. Erling Ellingsen has offered up a pair of weatherman-style videos, talking prospective players <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=dAzH5gmlJF4">through the title's realtime combat system</a> and <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=OL0hyZGpnkw">PvP combat</a> (a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/erling-ellingsen-shows-off-aoc-pvp-video/">video we discussed last month</a>). Now that we're closing in on launch, the Funcom folks are uncovering and going deeper on higher-end systems. The official site has up <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2438&amp;table=CONTENT&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=online&amp;utm_campaign=Clan_of_Conan&amp;utm_content=issue16">a post on constructing a guild city</a>, the game's constructible element. Those constructions, <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&amp;func_id=1096&amp;table=PUBLISH&amp;template=news_features_game&amp;selected=1096&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=online&amp;utm_campaign=Clan_of_Conan&amp;utm_content=issue16">player-made buildings</a>, are the topic of another piece explaining more of the high-end guild game. Another article gives <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2451&amp;table=CONTENT&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=online&amp;utm_campaign=Clan_of_Conan&amp;utm_content=issue16">some background on the Poitain area</a> of Aquilonia, a fertile land of tall grasses and hardwood forests. <br /><br />The newsletter also features a developer <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?GAME=191&amp;FEATURE=1930&amp;bhcp=1">profile of gameplay designer Per Storl&oslash;kken</a>, a <a href="http://funcom.cachefly.net/WebFiles/Newsletter/comic/AgeofConanComic.pdf">preview of the <em>Age of Conan</em> comic book</a> (featuring the Stygian chargers pictured above), a fan-created comic, and <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=frontend.show&amp;func_id=1036&amp;template=inc_images&amp;selected=1036&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=online&amp;utm_campaign=Clan_of_Conan&amp;utm_content=issue16">screenshots of the aforementioned Potain area</a>. The game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/warhammer-online-delayed-to-fall-2008/">may be delayed until late in the year</a>, but in the meantime this massive missive has more than enough to tide us over. Highlights from this month's newsletter include:<br />

With <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> creeping closer and closer on our collective calendars, it seems that each month there's more <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/18/gdc08-age-of-conan-preview/">fat</a> to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/19/gdc08-a-preview-of-age-of-conans-wild-and-wooly-mounted-combat/">chew</a> with the <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/conan/frontend/files/NEWSLETTER/issue14/">Clan of Conan</a> newsletters. We're a big fan of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/08/highlights-from-issue-13-of-the-age-of-conan-newsletter/">newsletters</a> here at Massively and its great to see them keep coming for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/theres-no-crying-in-head-lopping/">in-development</a> titles such as <em>Age of Conan</em>. Hopefully some of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/champions-online">other</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/all-points-bulletin">upcoming</a> massively game developers will take notice -- these things make us incredibly <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/pray-your-way-into-the-age-of-conan-beta/">happy</a>. Anyhow, we've got a nicely organized list for all your <em>AoC </em>informational needs just after the break.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/01/clan-of-conan-issue-14-highlights/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Clan of Conan Issue 14 highlights</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/01/clan-of-conan-issue-14-highlights/">Clan of Conan Issue 14 highlights</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 01 Mar 2008 16:00:00 EST. Blood, fire, and Chaos energy rippling from the seams, this latest warmachine bears a king's ransom in information for <em>Warhammer</em>-in-waiting fans. We've already noted the podcast all about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/warhammer-onlines-voice-over-video/">the epic amount of voice acting coming to the game</a>, but there was so much more! Personally, the highlight of the letter is <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/gameFeatures/keepsandsiege.php">a full rundown on the keeps and sieges system</a>. Even though the addition of Keeps to the game came during the Beta process, their integration seems seamless. Siege weaponry especially sounds entertaining, with the opportunity to boil some stunties in their own boots particularly delicious for this Greenskins fan. <br /> <br /> Other high points include:<br />
<ul>
    <li>A <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/behindTheScenes/developmentDiaries/RenownSystem.php">full explanation of the Realm vs. Realm renown system</a>. Renown will be your currency for buying abilities and pieces of awesome from your faction, and it's definitely something you're going to be dealing with.</li>
    <li>The <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/gameFeatures/Scenarios101_2.php">second episode of Scenarios 101</a> covers Talabec Dam and Stone Troll Crossing.</li>
    <li>An <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/zoneOverviews/Saphery/SapheryOverview.php">overview of the Saphery zone</a>. Gotta love Those Wacky Elves(tm).</li>
    <li>Player quotes from Beta.</li>
    <li>A Beta giveaway in the Warhammer comic book.</li>
    <li>Career masteries for the Bright Wizard and Zealot.</li>
    <li>Profiles of the leaders of the Order faction.</li>
</ul>

Well it has finally happened folks, now that Electronic Arts as absorbed Mythic we're finally seeing the horrendous outcome. Indeed, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> is going to feature professional voice overs for all of its inhabitants because of the EA acquisition -- terrifying!<br /><br />All right, we were having a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extras_%28TV_series%29">laugh</a>, but you can't blame us for indulging. This month's production podcast features lots of professionally paid voice actors saying all sorts of weird <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/19/war-class-info-high-elf-shadow-warrior/">High Elf</a> lines in a sound room. There's also an Extras reference as well as some screaming at the very end of the video. After hearing these actors deliver some of the lines in the podcast, we're happy to say the voice work in <em>WAR</em> is going to be quite good.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/warhammer-onlines-voice-over-video/">Warhammer Online's voice over video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 29 Feb 2008 17:00:00 EST. Whether it's Orgrimmar or Mos Eisley, some of the more interesting aspects of MMOs have to do with cities. They're usually areas steeped in quests and lore, they're traveling hubs for players moving across the countryside, and they've usually got lots of fun activities to partake in, either with other players or with NPCs. One of the neat things about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> is that they're trying to give players a larger stake in the relative safety and security of their capital city by turning it into something that players can lose after a concerted effort by the enemy faction. Unfortunately, unless you're one of the lucky few who have been playing the beta, the specifics of the city gameplay are still a bit unclear.<br /><br />Fortunately, this is just the thing the <em>Warhammer</em> community team is looking to shore up. Missy Hatch <a href="http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?p=691984#691984">put out a call on the Warhammer Alliance forums</a> (which you should already have bookmarked if you're at all into <em>WAR</em>) this morning, calling for player questions pertaining to cities. They're going to take a select group of questions from that thread and answer them in the March newsletter grab bag. They're only on page 3 in the thread so far, so there's a good chance your well thought out question will make the grade.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/question-war-devs-on-in-game-cities/">Question WAR devs on in-game cities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 27 Feb 2008 20:00:00 EST.
