RuneScape
It's almost over. RuneScape's year-long celebration of its 10th anniversary is coming to a close, and Jagex has great, wonderful plans to end it with a bang. Naturally, this translates into "developer manhunt" because why not?

During New Year's Eve, players are encouraged to be on alert as the clock strikes midnight 39 times in each of the time zones across the world. Every time this happens, a special moderator's in-game location will be made known through Facebook, on Twitter and in RuneScape itself. Those who can hunt down and find this mod in time will be treated to a special celebration.

The first clock to strike midnight on New Year's Eve is in Tokelau on Saturday, December 31st, at 5:00 a.m. EST. RuneScape players may wish to note that not all 39 "midnights" occur on the hour (this helpful website lays out the precise order).

Farewell, 2010 -- hello 2011! As many of us prepare to ring in the new year tonight, our thoughts turn to the future as they typically do at the end of the year. What will 2011 bring for you? Will it be a banner year of excellence, or a year that would best be experienced on fast-forward?

While we're not entirely certain of the wisdom of giving Hobbits things that can explode, it would appear that the group that formed during Shawn's Choose My Adventure trek through Lord of the Rings Online is still out there and doing well. Capeo decided to snag a screenshot and let us know how their merry little bunch rang in the new year. He writes in: It was New Year's Eve in the Shire and a few of the Massive Hobbits gathered for fireworks down the Hill from the Party Tree. As you can see from [this] shot, safety was maybe farther from our minds than it should have been. (We're still around and having great adventures in Moria and Mirkwood. *waves to Gibbi*)

For those of you unwilling or unable to travel to a friend's home for a New Year's Eve bash, or too tired just thinking about holding one yourself, spend it in Second Life in the Independent State of Caledon! Beginning at 4 AM SLT (Second Life Time, which is Pacific Standard Time), and running right up to 1 AM the following New Year's Day, you can enjoy "Many Midnights", A Gilded Age Masqued Charity Ball!

The schedule of activities runs thusly:

* 2:00PM - 3:00PM SLT - Live Charity Auction
* 3:00PM - 5:00PM SLT - London New Year's Eve Ball

* 11:00PM - 1:00AM SLT - San Francisco New Year's Eve Ball

The event hosts are donating all auction proceeds to "Gardens of Hope", an organization that builds greenhouses, tree nurseries, and more in Lesotho, Africa. These gardens are then used as a source of food, firewood, and income for several communities in this Southern African nation.

It's Friday once again, and despite the fact that most of us had at least half of this week off, we're looking at another three- or four-day-weekend. So what are you going to do with it (a.k.a. What aRe yoU Playing)?

Me, I'm glad to be home and resting after a pretty rushed holiday weekend, so it's going to be lots of relaxing. I haven't played a lot of World of Warcraft in a while, so I think my main goal this weekend will be to get back to my hunter and try leveling her as close to 70 as I can get. Just today, I finally bought my Retriever in EVE Online, also, so I see some more mining in my future as well. You know what they say: more ISK, more problems.

With New Year's Eve only three weeks away you better start thinking about how you intend to ring in 2008 because it'll be here before you can take down an Arch Villain. If you're like me - a City of Heroes altaholic and semi-alcoholic - you may think about staying within the comfy confines of your humble abode. Far, far away from the temptation to operate anything more complicated than your keyboard. Sound dull and boring? Think again!

Ghost Legion, one of Liberty servers oldest Supergroups, is holding their Third Annual New Year's Eve Bash... and they plan on ushering in '08 with a lot more flair and pizazz than Dick Clark or Ryan Seacrest! How? With a drinking game of course! The rules are simple. During the course of the evening's Skull bashing and Hamidon raiding should your virtual hero die you in reality must take two big swigs of your favorite adult beverage. If someone on your team gets defeated - everyone drinks! Long time CoX players have experienced the dreadful "team wipeout." Should the dulcet sounds of the Beach Boy's song Wipeout jingle your ears, and this fate befalls you during the festivities... everyone drinks double! BAM!

This event is open to all players, including minors. The law however dictates that minors can not drink alcoholic beverages, so Ghost Legion strongly suggests those under the legal drinking age suck down some soda or milk.

The event takes place on Monday, December 31, and starts at 9:00 PM EDT. Hop on the Liberty Server and head over to Warburg for all the rockin' and rollin' you can handle, and be sure to check Ghost Legion's website for all the details.
