Final Fantasy XI's annual egg hunt returning for another year

Having returned from its temporary shutdown, Final Fantasy XI is ready to herald the spring with a time-honored event. The newest incarnation of the Egg Hunt Egg-stravaganza is due to hit the live servers on April 12th, and as always the announcement comes fresh with a bit of fictional flavor. If you haven't been sufficiently creeped out by the ubiquitous and somewhat domineering moogles yet... well, the story of what it's like preparing eggs for the event will probably push you over the edge, even though it's meant to just be amusing.

As always, the celebration allows players to collect letter-emblazoned eggs, with the overarching goal to assemble a number of meaningful letter combinations. Each player must start by assembling the first three letters of his or her character's name... but there are many more combinations that can be unlocked, forcing enterprising players to trade in new eggs to the festival moogle in hopes of more letter-branded eggs. Final Fantasy XI players are likely quite familiar with the mechanics by this time, but who can resist alphabetic egg hunts?

Celestial Nights (and days) coming to Final Fantasy XI

While there are those who might argue that the release of the June version update is celebration enough, Final Fantasy XI isn't the sort of game to let a couple of months go by without some Vana'dielian holiday event. It's time for another fun trip into the celebration of summer, and this year's festivities promise to celebrate everyone's favorite part of the season: young lovers dying unpleasantly. At least, that's what this year's piece of introductory fiction for the Celestial Nights is promising, along with the ever-popular profiteering moogles.

Unlike several events in Final Fantasy XI, the actual process of the event over the past two years has remained fairly static, as has the backstory regarding the event. In short, it's a chance for characters to get some unique furnishings and the ever-popular decorative pieces of armor. This year's event will be starting on June 29th, running for two weeks until July 13th. Avid players can brush up on the guide from prior years for a good idea of how this year's festivities will most likely take place.

Mog Bonanza winners announced in Final Fantasy XI

Picking numbers for a contest always defaults to something familiar - your zip code, your birthdate, the number of times police have been called to your house because you were shouting so much the neighbors thought you were assaulting someone. At least that way you can blame cosmic randomness instead of just guessing wrong. The many residents of Final Fantasy XI can start blaming fate, as the winning numbers for the Moggy New Year Bonanza have been announced, right on schedule.

In ascending order, the winning number for the Rank 5 prize is 8, Rank 4 is 9-6, Rank 3 is 7-3-3, Rank 2 is 1-1-6-4, and the supreme Rank 1 winning numbers are 5-8-8-4-6. The official site has assembled a small chart showing both the winning numbers and the number of winners of each prize category. Over five hundred thousand players won the Rank 5 prize, narrowing to only 43 people winning the top award.

Of course, there's a limited timeframe to pick up your prize -- anything not claimed by February 15th will be lost forever, so it's best to move in quickly to pick up your reward. Congratulations to those who won, and for those who didn't, well, a Shadow Lord statue isn't that cool.

Add a moogle to your event with Final Fantasy XI's player event support!

What makes a good event? Well that's a bit complicated! A good event requires a creative idea, careful planning, and coordination amongst the people planning it! If that's done, then the event will go off without a hitch and the players participating in it will have lots of fun!

But what makes a good event into a great event? That's simple -- moogles.

Square-Enix and the Final Fantasy XI development team know that sometimes good events can become great events with a little bit of developer intervention. Now, with the advent of Player Event Support, everyday players can request the appearance of moogles to help out with their events in Final Fantasy XI!

Taking advantage of this service is as easy as picking up a pendant compass to determine where you want to place your moogles and filling out a request form over at PlayOnline. If your event is approved, you do the hosting while the developers put moogles where you require them the most! We can't wait to see what players create with this new service!

More moogles than you can shake a chocobo at in the upcoming Final Fantasy add-on

Moogles. A rich, noble race that's been around for ages. Sure, their contributions to society are overlooked -- such as their dedication to keeping your house clean, changing your jobs, and acting like a save point in oh so many Final Fantasy worlds. But that doesn't mean that this race has many more things to share with society.

Things like haunted mog houses, engagement rings, and... um... mogfia bosses? What's going on here?

It's a Moogle Kupo d'Etat, the next add-on expansion pack for Final Fantasy XI! Just like the first pack, A Crystalline Prophecy, this expansion will once again provide a short storyline and an augmentable item at the end, all for the low price of 10 bucks.

This time around, it's the headpiece for the sets! The Champion's Galea, Anwig Salade, and Selenian Cap are all up for grabs once the mini-expansion is completed.

The add-on pack will be available for pre-order on July 5th, and will most likely roll out with the next version update later in July. Check out our gallery of some of the scenes from the upcoming pack, as well as our look at the new items!

Adventurers of Vana'diel, you only have six more days to throw your gil at the popular virtual lottery, Mog Bonanza! Yes, that's right, the Mogs are once again offering up fabulous prizes for anyone willing to purchase a few lottery marbles!

This year's grand prize of gil has changed, however, from a flat rate prize to a percentage of the proceeds generated from marble sales. For example, rank 1's gil prize will be half of the proceeds from marble sales divided equally amongst all of the people who won the grand prize and chose gil as their payout.

Otherwise, the contest has remained pretty much as is, with items like the Kraken Club and Novio Earring making appearances once again on the grand prize list. Even if you don't match all six digits, there are still plenty of lucrative prizes to leap at, making purchasing marbles totally worth it.

Marbles are 2000 gil a pick and can be purchased from Bonanza Moogles stationed at all of the ports of the capital cities and the Chocobo Circuit.

Final Fantasy XI begins the Doll Festival event

If you feel dainty and pretty, oh so pretty, then perhaps you should stop by Final Fantasy XI's Doll Festival, going on now until March 3rd in Vana'diel!

The Doll Festival is the yearly celebration of the women of Vana'diel, where all wish happiness and health to the young girls and women in the world. Each year the cities are dressed up in a very elegant and formal fashion, while adventurers can look forward to collecting the yearly festival dolls and bonbori lanterns which can be used to decorate your mog house.

Collecting these items from your local neighborhood moogles can earn you good fortunes and decoration bonuses for your mog house, so don't turn down the free items when the moogles are just handing them out on street corners! Moogles will be stationed in northern and southern San d'Oria, the mines and markets of Bastok, and Woods and Waters districts of Windurst.

Valentione's Day comes to FFXI this Friday

No, that's not a fat-fingered typo you see in the headline. For Final Fantasy XI players, Valentione's Day is almost here, and the moogles of Vana'diel are out in force to encourage folks to join the love-fest. They have prepared a compilation of romantic little tales from FFXI's citizens to get everyone in the mood ahead of this Friday the 6th, when the Valentione's celebrations will begin in-game. Once things have kicked off, festival moogles will be found at these locations, advertising the event and getting people involved:

- Southern San d'Oria (J-9)
- Northern San d'Oria (D-8)
- Bastok Mines (I-9)
- Bastok Markets (G-8)
- Windurst Waters (F-5)
- Windurst Woods (K-10)

You'll have until the 16th of February to feel the love, before things go back to normal -- well, as normal as things can ever be at the hands of the moogles.

Final Fantasy XI throws a bovine bonanza for the Year of the Ox

Those moogles are crazy, ya'know? First they almost cause a buffalo stampede for the opening of the Mog House Management Union Buffalo Bonanza Ranch (try saying that three times fast) and only now do they realize that buffalo eat a lot. Sadly, these poor moogles ended up working during all of the holiday festivities just to keep their buffalo happy. That's heartbreaking by anybody's standards.

Yet, while the moogles work, herdsmen have come from the ranch on behalf of the MHMU to bring us buffalo based treats and festivities to the streets of the four main cities of Vana'diel. Plus, if you journey outside of your city's walls, you're bound to run into a few loose buffalo being chased by the MHMU ranchers. Trade them some of your unwanted items, and perhaps they might be so kind to pay you back with free buffs, or new year's gifts!

To make sure we didn't miss anything with this story, I spoke with Masskupoively, our resident news moogle. He provided great insight into what the MHMU was considering with this festive event.

Join the moogles for the Starlight Celebration in FFXI

This coming Friday, the 19th of December, the Starlight Celebration will begin in Vana'diel, offering Final Fantasy XI players the chance to party with the moogles and score some presents. On one side of the equation, you can assist the moogles with giving out gifts and greeting cards. On the flip-side, you can look for the presents that they've hidden all over the place to get some for yourself -- but since they had to make the boxes monster-proof, there will probably be some force required to bust those suckers open.

If you're looking for more to do, or if the moogles just plain creep you out a little bit, you can help smilebringers deliver some Starlight joy to the children of Vana'diel, or visit special merchants to pick up festive items. The official website has the lowdown on exactly where you can find these activities. Seeing as the "Return Home to Vana'diel" campaign begins on December the 15th, those that are planning on restoring their old FFXI characters will be just in time for the celebrations to kick off on Friday. The holiday will draw to a close at 7:00AM PST on December the 31st.

MogBonanza hits Final Fantasy XI, kupo!

Our inside source with the Vana'diel moogle guild has revealed that the moogles are up to some fun for the adventurers! Moogle technology has recently improved to the point where they can now draw numbers carved on marbles out of a huge bin and reward prizes to those who hold the winning numbers. What does this mean for you? Massive cash!

To celebrate Final Fantasy XI's sixth anniversary, the moogles are giving out many great items with a top cash prize of 100,000,000 gil for the player who matches all 5 numbers. It should be noted that even 2 numbers matching gives you a chance to win 100,000 gil!

With Square-Enix's crack down on real-money trading and gilsellers in an attempt to stabilize the economy of FFXI, it seems really odd for them to be infusing a huge prize of 100,000,000 gil into the economy through a contest. But, hey, we're not going to be complaining. Would you want to turn down 100,000,000 gil? We think not.

Final Fantasy XI Feast of Swords event begins April 28th

Those rapscalion Moogles are at it again. The Feast of Swords event, a chance for the children of the three kingdoms to get some culture, has once again been endangered by relic thieves! This time the Moogles were ... sort of ... ready for them. They actually sent the thieves information tipping them off to the Samuari armor's location, making sure they'd steal the relics in a timely fashion. They've given us, the adventurers of Final Fantasy XI's Vana'diel, plenty of advance warning that these thugs are coming.

So be ready! April 28th marks the start of the event, which will run through May 7th. During that time you can take place easily by grabbing a ibushi shinai (a special wooden katana) from Moogles in the three Kingdoms. Speak with another Moogle in one of the many early zones to appropriately tune your character to the content. The Feast is a fantastic holiday as characters of every level can take part; even if you play a max-level monster your avatar will be dropped to level 1. The full details on the event are available at the official FFXI site. The lore surrounding last year's Feast might be of interest for contrast, and the FFXIclopedia has a guide covering the 2006 experience. Make sure to arm yourself properly, and good luck fighting the bandits!
