Modifiable terrain, reverse engineering as a form of crafting, and futuristic robots. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/28/massively-speaking-episode-97-perpetuum-online/">more we hear</a> about <a href="http://www.perpetuum-online.com/"><em>Perpetuum</em></a>, the more promising it sounds.<br />
<br />
Our friends over at <a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/cmps_index.php">MMORPGItalia</a> had a <a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/forum/showpost.php?p=3536179&amp;postcount=2">chat with the development team</a> of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/perpetuum-online"><em>Perpetuum</em></a> recently to talk about these details of the game. The concept of a persistent world is nothing new for MMOs, but this game seems to be bringing it to a new level -- don't get too confident if you're using a tree for cover in battle, for example. Your enemies have the ability to blow it away, leaving you exposed. However, you can create new cover if you dig quickly enough. This sort of interaction with the world can be found throughout the game, and changes you make to the world are permanent until someone else comes along and makes another change. <br />
<br />
Perpetuum is a completely open, sandbox-style world in the truest sense: "<em>anyone can go anywhere.</em>" While there are missions here and there, you're generally on your own. You interact with the world as a human who is remotely controlling robots, and where you take your robot is entirely up to you.<br />
<br />

Hot on the heels of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/18/world-of-tanks-rolls-onto-the-mmo-battlefield/">announcement</a> about the upcoming <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com/"><em>World of Tanks</em></a> MMO comes the first interview about the game. <a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/forum/showpost.php?p=3377488&amp;postcount=2">MMORPGItalia</a> chatted with producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/victor-kislyi">Victor Kislyi</a> yesterday to get the scoop on how exactly this new game is going to work.<br />
<br />
The site asked a broad range of questions, cutting straight to the chase right at the beginning: "...why should I play your game instead of another one?" It gave Kislyi a good chance to tell fans exactly why he thinks this game will fill a gap in the MMO market. The game is PvP only ("<em>We do not intend to make a PvE mode...</em>") and players have the opportunity to participate in large scale PvP battles.<br />
<br />
The full interview is very informative, particularly considering we've not heard much about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-tanks"><em>World of Tanks</em></a> otherwise. It's worth a look, so head over to <a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/forum/showpost.php?p=3377488&amp;postcount=2">MMORPGItalia to see the whole thing</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/24/world-of-tanks-producer-gives-a-look-into-the-game/">World of Tanks producer gives a look into the game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 24 Feb 2010 21:00:00 EST. Italian fansite <a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/cmps_index.php">mmorpgitalia.com</a> spent some time recently with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bill-roper">Bill Roper</a>, talking about where <a href="http://champions-online.com/"><em>Champions Online</em></a> stands four months after release, and where they are going from here.<br />
<br />
Roper answered some popular questions regarding issues such as the social aspect of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/champions-online"><em>Champions Online</em></a>, the game's level of completion (or lack thereof) at launch and how Cryptic has progressed from there.<br />
<br />
The interview also covered questions about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cryptic">Cryptic</a>'s upcoming plans for <em>CO</em>, such as the upcoming secret identity mechanic. It's an exciting idea for players, but one that Roper's not quite ready to divulge in detail about yet: <em>"We're in the early design stages of this feature, so I'm not ready to talk about it. One of the things I have learned about communicating ideas is that once it's in an interview, it becomes gospel no matter how much you qualify it as being "mere ideas" or "discussions.""</em><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/forum/showpost.php?p=3312858&amp;postcount=2">The full interview</a> covers these points in more detail and several others as well, and is a good read for anyone interested in <em>Champions Online</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/bill-roper-hints-at-secret-identity-mechanic-for-champions-onlin/">Bill Roper hints at secret identity mechanic for Champions Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 15:00:00 EST.
