As <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/transformers-universe/"><em>Transformers Universe</em></a> continues to be pieced together, one sentient component at a time, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jagex/">Jagex</a> is looking to players to help with the development process. Specifically, to help the studio choose names for two of the classes in the upcoming game.<br />
<br />
Two polls will help the company make its decision. The first is over at <em>Transformers Universe's </em><a href="https://www.facebook.com/TransformersUniverse">Facebook page</a> while the second is on <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/transformers_universe_poll.cfm">MMORPG.com</a>. Both polls will continue until 6:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday.<br />
<br />
The choices for the Autobot class are Scholar, Engineer, and Counsel, while the Decepticon class has the possibility to be called a Technician, Specialist, or Informer. Players also have the option to write in a name as well. Of course, there are a few disclaimers involved, including this common-sense move: "<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hasbro/">Hasbro</a> and Jagex reserve the right to not use any suggested name, even if it's a name with the most votes, if it does not fit the brand or is disparaging, derogatory, or offensive."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/transformers-universe-gives-fans-a-chance-to-name-two-classes/">Transformers Universe gives fans a chance to name two classes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 12:30:00 EST. "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side," Han Solo said, enlightening us on the smuggler philosophy in the original Star Wars film. (I'm fairly certain that line has not been cut from the Blu-Ray edition.) In <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>, it's not just the blaster that gets him by -- it's all the other dirty tricks this scoundrel has up his sleeve, in his pockets, or under his hat -- that's right: hat.<br />
<br />
In past editions of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/hyperspace-beacon/">Hyperspace Beacon</a>, we've talked about some specific abilities of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/hyperspace-beacon-find-your-focus/">Jedi Knight</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/14/hyperspace-beacon-find-the-force/">Jedi Consular</a>. We have learned that the Advanced Class determines the role and playstyle of a specific class and that the overall class determines the story. Even more so, the specific skill trees narrow your focus. I believe that hybridization weakens your character, but there are others (including those who have played the game) who believe that hybrids are viable. Given that this game is still in beta, actual playtime has been limited to conventions and other special events.<br />
<br />
The Smuggler class is the class of the weekend. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> released the progression video on Friday, and as anyone who knows me can tell you, I love this class. After the break, we'll chat about some of the announced abilities of this unique character.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/13/hyperspace-beacon-find-your-blaster-at-your-side/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: Find your blaster at your side</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/13/hyperspace-beacon-find-your-blaster-at-your-side/">Hyperspace Beacon: Find your blaster at your side</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 13 Sep 2011 20:00:00 EST. Thanks to the new <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/systems/advanced-classes">advanced class page</a> on the <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> website and <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/367/feature/5273/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic-Advanced-Classes-Interview.html">MMORPG.com</a>'s interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/georg-zoeller">Georg Zoeller</a>, we now know quite a bit about the skill tree breakdown of each advanced class. However, over the next few weeks, I want to take a look at a few of the classes and read between the lines of text. Several abilities are listed for each class, but how do they fit together? What does the complete package look like?<br />
<br />
The Jedi Knight looks to be one of the most popular classes to play. After all, what kid growing up didn't have a fantasy of wielding a lightsaber just like Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi? I'd like to give a general overview of the advanced class abilities and collate a comprehensive list of the announced abilities. Follow me beyond the cut to see how these puzzle-pieces fit together in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>SWTOR</em></a>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/hyperspace-beacon-find-your-focus/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: Find your focus</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/hyperspace-beacon-find-your-focus/">Hyperspace Beacon: Find your focus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 07 Jun 2011 17:00:00 EST. <em>"No designer could ask for more to draw upon,"</em> <a href="http://www.thesecretworld.com"><em>The Secret World's</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/joel-bylos/">Joel Bylos</a> says. <em>"This world, our world, is the greatest resource of them all."</em><br />
<br />
And so begins <a href="http://www.thesecretworld.com/news/new_video_the_secret_world_developer_diary_story_and_missions">a fascinating trip down the dark alleys of storytelling</a> in <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/funcom">Funcom's</a> upcoming MMO. In a dev diary <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/view/videos/gameID/404/videoId/1971">posted at MMORPG.com</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em></a> team suggests it's more interesting to set the game in our world instead of in rehashed fantasy lands. By embracing the concept of "everything is true," the writers open the door to every conspiracy theory, every urban legend, and every branch of pseudoscience known to man.<br />
<br />
<em>"The story is exploration. The story is discovery,"</em> Bylos promises. He says that the ultimate goal of the storytelling team is to get players to stop mindlessly clicking and to start engaging the story on a conscious level. This includes investigating events, hunting for clues and solving puzzles. No, this isn't <em>Scooby-Doo Online</em> (although that would be <em>awesome</em>).<br />
<br />
It's also interesting to note that every character in the game has full voice-over and motion capture as a way to pull you into the story instead of jolt you out of it. Bylos also outlines the different types of missions, which include stealth and infiltration, action, investigation, and story.<br />
<br />

Looking for more information on <a href="http://www.riftgame.com/"><em>Rift: Planes of Telara</em></a>? Well, first you should check out our <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/hands-on-with-rift-planes-of-telara-at-gamer-day-ii/">exclusive hands-on</a>, direct from Gamer Day II. After you've digested that, MMORPG.com has some interesting info regarding the newly announced <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/feature/4708/page/1">Archon soul</a>, a support specialist class that allows you to convert your opponent's strength and energy into usable magic.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion">Trion's</a> new twist on the traditional mage archetype focuses on buffing friends and allies and is a formidable combatant in its own right. That said, the Archons can also be quite vulnerable, especially during the period just after they've infused allies with their life force (and just prior to feeding off an enemy to regain their strength). OK, so the title above isn't so much a setup for a hilarious joke as a ham-handed introduction to three recently revealed souls -- specialty subclasses -- from <a href="http://www.riftgame.com/en/"><em>Rift: Planes of Telara</em></a>. <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a> unveiled these never-before-seen souls over the past week.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/feature/4630/page/1">Warlord</a> is a melee soul that focuses more on controlling the tide of battle by buffing allies and debuffing the enemy, but can get in over her head quickly if separated from the pack. If you've always been partial to battle clerics, then the <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/feature/4624/The-Justicar-Revealed.html">Justicar</a> is right up your alley -- he is a powerful front-line fighter who builds up healing power through fighting, which can then be used to restore others. Finally, the <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/feature/4627">Stormcaller</a> is a mage specialty who uses a potent mix of air and water magic to call down the thunder on her foes.<br />

It looks like <a href="http://massively.com/tag/scott-jennings">Scott "Lum the Mad" Jennings</a> started up <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm?loadfeature=3695&amp;bhcp=1">a new column</a> over at MMORPG.com granting players a rare peek behind the MMO industry curtain. His first article covers some of the things you can expect to be confronted with if you are ever lucky enough to land a game designer interview with an MMO studio. Given the competitive job market out there, these insights should not be taken lightly, even though they are just one man's opinion. But what a man!<br />
<br />
No, we're not talking about his wild charisma and manly beard. Okay, that too, but <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Jennings_%28game_designer%29">Lum</a> has been around the MMO block in various roles from programmer to lead designer. Put simply, his advice is valuable. The biggest point he made that stuck out to us was the suggestion to have opinions and back them up. <em>"[A]s a designer you are being paid, in large part, to have opinions. Your job will be to analyze parts of the game and determine whether it will work, how it can be broken, and whether or not it will be fun."</em><br />
<br />
So, whether you're an aspiring game designer or simply interested in boosting your interview skills in general (not a bad idea in these trying times), we recommend you take a gander at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm?loadfeature=3695&amp;bhcp=1">Lum's new column</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/05/scott-jennings-mmo-interview-prep/">Scott Jennings MMO interview prep</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 12:00:00 EST. Did you know that MMOs and breasts have a long history with one another? It's true, you know. From the time MMOs came onto the scene, so too did scantily clad women with huge hooters. Also, yes, this is indeed one of "those" articles. The article where we talk about breasts seriously, I mean.<br /><br /><a href="http://eatingbees.brokentoys.org/">Sanya Weathers</a>, no stranger to the MMO industry (or breasts, for that matter) just recently took a pretty funny tour of <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm?loadfeature=3433&amp;bhcp=1">how breasts work into advertising</a>, whether we like it or not. From box art to marketing departments, she looks at some of the good, the bad, and the downright horrible when it comes to putting hot women on boxes to sell games.<br /><br />If you're up for a laugh, go check out her article over at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a>. It's funny, it's insightful, it's historical, and it's full of what men want most -- awesome games. It's seemed that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/stargate-worlds"><em>Stargate Worlds</em></a> would not see a release -- the developer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/cheyenne-mountain-entertainment">Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment</a> faced <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/05/cheyenne-mountain-responds-to-rumors-of-no-pay-for-employees/">major cash flow issues</a> resulting in employees not being paid and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/cheyenne-mountain-entertainment-sued-over-unpaid-bills/">subsequent lawsuits</a>. There were also <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/firesky-confirms-dan-elggrens-departure/">departures of some of the major individuals </a>connected with the game's development that painted a grim picture. There has been the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/24/rumor-stargate-worlds-facing-an-august-1st-deadline-to-raise-ca/">occasional glimmer of hope</a> of obtaining more funding, though, and some of the <em>Stargate Worlds</em> team has <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/stargate-worlds-marches-onwards-and-upwards-says-development-te/">stuck with the project</a> as additional financing for the title was sought. Now it seems things may be turning around for <em>Stargate Worlds</em> with the latest bit of info we came across, that <a href="http://www.cheyenneme.com/">Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment</a> has gotten that needed funding. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/248370">Dana Massey over at MMORPG.com</a> recently spoke with CME about where the project stands. Massey writes, <em>"Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has received the funding that they believe will allow them to complete work on Stargate Worlds, and eventually pay back vendors and past and present employees who are still owed back pay." </em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/21/stargate-worlds-receives-new-funding-development-to-continue/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Stargate Worlds receives new funding, development to continue</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/21/stargate-worlds-receives-new-funding-development-to-continue/">Stargate Worlds receives new funding, development to continue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 21 Aug 2009 19:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.apb.com"><em>APB</em></a> developers over at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/realtime-worlds">Realtime Worlds</a> are continuing their behind the scenes video podcast series in episode 8, "<a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/358/view/videos/play/1489/All-Points-Bulletin-Video-Podcast-8.html">Spoiler Alert</a>." They're talking about car spoilers.<br /><br />This week the crew goes out to the <a href="http://www.scottishmodifiedcars.com/">Scottish Modified Car Show</a>, all in order to point out how much customization is available for cars in the game. From decals, to new parts, to color, all of the cars in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/all-points-bulletin"><em>APB</em></a> will have some extreme customization options that will allow players to really express themselves. When you are making a game based on some of the best comic book heroes of all time, it only makes sense that you bring in some of the best talent from the comic industry to help you in your endeavors. Enter <a href="http://www.marvwolfman.com/">Marv Wolfman</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Lee">Jim Lee</a>, two men who know their <a href="http://www.dccomics.com/dccomics/">DC Comics</a>. Marv has written for the <em><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Teen-Titans-Archives-Archive-Editions/dp/1563894858">New Teen Titans</a></em> and the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Drake">current iteration of Robin</a> while Jim Lee started his art career with <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Punisher_War_Journal">Punisher: War Journal</a></em> and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Flight">Alpha Flight</a></em>. Currently, Marv Wolfman is writing for <a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com/"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a> while Jim Lee sits in the creative director's chair.<br /><br />Carolyn Koh from MMORPG.com recently caught up to both <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/3374/page/1">Marv</a> and <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/350/feature/3375/page/1">Jim</a> and had the opportunity to ask them some questions about what will be seen in the game, how closely it will tie into the current run of DC Comics, and some of their favorite gaming experiences. If you're looking for a sneak-peek into what may be in store for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online">DCUO</a> and what goes on in the minds of these two men, look no further than <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/3374/page/1">these</a> <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/350/feature/3375/page/1">interviews</a> hosted over at MMORPG.com<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/jim-lee-and-marv-wolfman-speak-on-dc-universe-online-experiences/">Jim Lee and Marv Wolfman speak on DC Universe Online experiences</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 10 Aug 2009 19:00:00 EST. Or rather, it takes a step back to the centuries preceding the human race's rebirth via cloning technology. <br /><br />In the years that humankind remained dormant in the Librarium (cloning facility), man-made nano-viruses altered the world's ecosystems. As the environment began to regenerate after nuclear annihilation, separate ocean ecosystems slowly emerged. A vast colony organism became dominant and sought to expand its growth to the surface world. As it evolved, it released swarms of spores that traveled through the ocean currents like scouts, which looked for a surface habitat with enough biomass to support the colony's next stage of life. If you've played games like <a href="http://fallout.bethsoft.com/index.html"><em>Fallout 3</em></a>, the setting of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise</em></a> will be quite different from what you might be expecting. The game will take place on a sprawling island called Enterra, with regions and environments ranging from lush jungles to futuristic urban centers. Of course <em>Earthrise</em> will have the requisite shattered city environments we'd expect of a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/post-apocalyptic">post-apocalyptic backdrop</a>, as well. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com">Masthead Studios</a> recently explained how <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/20/earthrise-devs-on-how-terrain-will-impact-gameplay/">terrain will impact gameplay</a>, having written about some of the game's man-made environments <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/earthrise-spotlights-the-industrial-area-in-recent-dev-diary/">like the Industrial Area</a>. Now they're ready to discuss more about Enterra's natural environment with the Cascade Mountains, the focus of the latest Masthead Studios dev blog they've written for <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/25/earthrise-dev-blog-shows-off-the-beauty-and-horror-of-the-cascad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Earthrise dev blog shows off the beauty and horror of the Cascade Mountains</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/25/earthrise-dev-blog-shows-off-the-beauty-and-horror-of-the-cascad/">Earthrise dev blog shows off the beauty and horror of the Cascade Mountains</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 25 Jul 2009 16:00:00 EST. Richard Aihoshi posed <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/3303/Why-Publishers-Import-Older-MMOs.html">this question over at MMORPG.com</a> in his most-recent article entitled "Richard Aihoshi's Free Zone: Why Publishers Import Older MMOs". The curiosity stems from the fact that we're beginning to see many more MMOs that are simply imported and localized for a western audience, rather than publishers taking that risk to create an entirely new IP. Of course <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/heroes-of-telara">there are exceptions</a>, but for the most part, we can't help but wonder if it is in fact easier, and if easier is better.<br /><br />In Richard's article, he interviews <a href="http://www.gamepotusa.com/">Gamepot</a>'s Thomas Lee about their recent launch of the western version of <a href="http://mir2.gamepotusa.com/"><em>The Legend of Mir 2</em></a>. Thomas has some interesting insight into the typical business model of these imports that caught our attention, <em>"I don't think people will play something just because it's free. It has to be fun; otherwise it's eventually going to fall on its face."</em> Thomas goes on to discuss that common point that clearly defines the MMO mania happening with eastern MMOs and how they're perceived in the western world, <em>"Sure, four million registered players would be nice. However, I'll take a few hundred thousand loyal, happy players any day."</em><br /><br />Check out <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/3303/Why-Publishers-Import-Older-MMOs.html">the complete article</a> for more from Thomas Lee and Richard Aihoshi on the wave of older eastern imports to hit western shores.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/20/why-do-publishers-import-so-many-older-mmos/">Why do publishers import so many older MMOs?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 20 Jul 2009 17:00:00 EST. Needless to say, it's a game we're really looking forward to trying, we're just not sure about <em>when</em> that's going to be. Without a solid ETA on when the title will launch, we're just keeping up with NetDevil's updates on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/jumpgate-evolution"><em>Jumpgate Evolution</em></a>'s development. They've recently announced some new info about the game's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/05/jumpgate-evolution-economy-changing-to-player-driven-system/">move towards a player-driven economy</a>, but we'd imagine most of our readers are more interested in <em>JGE</em>'s PvP. That's the focus of an interview with the title's lead producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hermann-peterscheck">Hermann Peterscheck</a> that we've just come across over at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jon-wood">Jon Wood</a> spoke with Peterscheck about how PvP will factor in the game's lore, and vice versa. Peterscheck explained how each of the nations has a personality or a character, which they've been trying to convey with the lore released for the militaristic Octavians, the profit-motivated Solrain, or <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/15/jumpgate-evolution-updates-lore-surrounding-the-spiritual-quanta/">the mystic Quantar</a>. NetDevil's goal is to present enough 'character' for each nation that players can identify with that faction and bring that into their gameplay.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/17/jumpgate-evolution-interview-drops-details-on-pvp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jumpgate Evolution interview drops details on PvP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/17/jumpgate-evolution-interview-drops-details-on-pvp/">Jumpgate Evolution interview drops details on PvP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 17 Jul 2009 19:00:00 EST. Of the upcoming post-apocalyptic MMOs, <a href="http://www.play-earthrise.com/"><em>Earthrise</em></a> boasts a feature that sets it apart from the others: more technology. This is evident in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/earthrise-gallery/">screenshots</a> we've seen and the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/29/gdc09-massively-previews-earthrise/">interviews</a> we've done regarding this <a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com/">Masthead Studios</a> title. In a recent <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/331/feature/3275/page/1">dev journal at MMORPG.com</a>, the team explains the rise and fall the great nanofactories in the game's lore, and sets the stage for your heroic character to step in and help reclaim the Industrial Area.<br /><br /><em>"Sadly, Coordinator Jared and his men were great scientists, but poor diplomats. They found the worst kind of economical ally in the face of the Syndicate, who forced them into signing a beguiling contract relinquishing control over the industrial production and the operation of the installations of the Collective. In fact, the words 'wildly successful' may come to mind when you take into account that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/02/fusionfall-hits-the-4-million-mark-celebrates-with-bubblehead/"><em>FusionFall</em> has already gained over 4 million registered users</a> since its January launch. Having a TV network to promote the game is advantageous, of course, but with that many kids running around in the game's world, it was inevitable that some of them would get up to mischief. <br /><br />This topic came up in an interview conducted by <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com'</a>s Carolyn Koh with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/fusionfall"><em>FusionFall</em></a> community director Richard Weil. It's interesting to note that some kids are basically testing the limits of the game world by finding ways into the "Wastelands" -- vast in-game areas where the developers test aspects of <em>FusionFall</em>. These players have managed to find holes in the game code and slip into these off-limits areas that were thought hidden and inaccessible to them in the first place.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/kids-exploring-the-wastelands-of-fusionfall-in-ways-devs-never-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kids exploring the Wastelands of FusionFall in ways devs never intended</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/kids-exploring-the-wastelands-of-fusionfall-in-ways-devs-never-i/">Kids exploring the Wastelands of FusionFall in ways devs never intended</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 18:00:00 EST. However, this clearer separation between ships entailed scrapping some of the designs they'd created.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/16/netdevil-producer-hermann-peterscheck-on-jumpgate-evolutions-sh/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NetDevil producer Hermann Peterscheck on Jumpgate Evolution's ship design</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/16/netdevil-producer-hermann-peterscheck-on-jumpgate-evolutions-sh/">NetDevil producer Hermann Peterscheck on Jumpgate Evolution's ship design</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 16 May 2009 12:00:00 EST. For those fans of class-based FPS games like <a href="http://www.teamfortress.com"><em>Team Fortress 2</em></a>, Hi-Rez Studios has emphasized that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/04/global-agenda-influences-include-city-of-heroes-and-team-fortres/"><em>TF2 </em>has been a major influence</a> on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/global-agenda"><em>Global Agenda</em></a>'s development. While the game's release date hasn't been announced yet, Hi-Rez <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/28/gdc09-catching-up-with-global-agenda/#continued">has been fairly active</a> in terms of promoting <em>Global Agenda</em>. Hi-Rez Studios executive producer Todd Harris has written a dev blog for <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a> titled "A Minute To Learn, A Lifetime To Master", a motto which is very much the spirit behind <em>Global Agenda</em>'s game design. <br /><br />Harris breaks down the major tiers of <em>Global Agenda</em>'s gameplay as: <em>Action/shooter mechanics and reflexes</em>; <em>RPG/build</em>; <em>Team tactics and cooperation - per mission instance</em>; and <em>Domination strategy and coordination - per alliance vs. alliance campaign</em>. Harris goes into detail in each of these facets of the game, and explains how these tiers have played out with the roughly 1000 <em>Global Agenda</em> alpha testers. The aggressive nature of <em>Darkfall </em>tends to make some gamers shy away from the title, particularly those whose comfort zone is in the PvE that other titles on the market offer. So then, is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/darkfall"><em>Darkfall</em></a> a game that only appeals to the established hardcore PvP'er or can it hold some allure for a wider MMO audience? <br /><br />We came across an article at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a> today that may help answer this question, written by their <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/profile.cfm?username=Cercie&amp;bhcp=1">Darkfall Correspondent Kelly Price</a> titled "<a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?game=4&amp;feature=3007&amp;bhcp=1">Darkfall: The Conversion of a Self Proclaimed Carebear</a>" that we feel is definitely worth pointing out. Price caught our attention since much of what's written been written about the game on various MMO sites tends to be somewhat negative (or outright slagging) from the standpoint of people into more PvE-centric massively multiplayer online games, while PvP'ers have taken to <em>Darkfall</em> like fish to water. It's refreshing to see Price's perspective on the game, that of a (self-described) 'carebear' embracing the play experience that <em>Darkfall</em> offers.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/a-carebear-perspective-on-embracing-darkfall/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A "carebear" perspective on embracing Darkfall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/a-carebear-perspective-on-embracing-darkfall/">A "carebear" perspective on embracing Darkfall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 13:00:00 EST. For some players, there's obviously not much in a name. For instance, how many VanHellsings, Grandalfs, or RougeKillas have you come across in your MMO travels? We're not quite sure if these people are trying to be clever, innocently paying homage to their favourite pop culture references, or simply don't care what others think.<br /><br />For others, a lot of thought goes into a name. These players want to have <a href="http://warhammervault.ign.com/View.php?view=Columns.Detail&amp;id=32">unique, meaningful, and/or perhaps a wee bit pretentious names</a> for their avatar. Maybe there's even a back story for how they got their name. <br /><br />One thing is certain; developers usually put lots of thought into naming various cities, locations, and NPCs in their MMO worlds. Why? <a href="http://massively.com/tag/jess-lebow">Jess Lebow</a>, MMO storyteller for over a decade, believes players are smart and pay attention to detail. He also knows they're easily annoyed by things like too many consonants with too few vowels or oddly punctuated names. When naming one of the first cities in <a href="http://guildwars.com"><em>Guild Wars</em></a>, he used a feature-based naming generation system that came up with Lagbourough for the city by a lake. This resulted in a few chuckles from testers and not-so-pleased programmers. However, like all new MMOs (and some old), there are still some kinks Aventurine is working out with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/darkfall"><em>Darkfall</em></a>. This week's patch brought significant changes to the game, which are <a href="http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?p=3294828#post3294828">detailed in the official patch notes</a>, but <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a>'s <em>Darkfall</em> Correspondent <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/profile.cfm/username/PennyLayne">Megan Clark</a> has written her expanded take on the changes and what they mean for the gameplay experience. Clark breaks down the April 24th patch changes as "<a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?game=4&amp;feature=2979&amp;bhcp=1">The Good, the Bad and the Mundane</a>."<br /><br />As to the 'good', Clark points out improvements in sorting out friend from foe, crafting and trade enhancements (with greater protection when trading outside of one's own clan), and new quest lines added. The 'bad', as Clark sees it, is a 45-minute timer when quitting a clan or kicking a member. It resolves the issue of players quitting their clan to avoid conflicts with a warring clan, but it adds another risk. She says, <em>"I feel it poses a greater threat to clans who need to kick members in an emergency to protect their members or banks." </em>Clark explains, <em>"Imagine if you had a rogue member of your clan killing your crafters/tradesmen in protected cities to steal their goods. The problem of an emergency kick doesn't arise often, but when you need someone out fast, that 45 minute timer will be devastating." </em><br /><br />Megan Clark takes a good look at how <em>Darkfall</em> is shaping up and you can <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?feature=2979&amp;game=4&amp;bhcp=1">see her angle on these changes at MMORPG.com</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/a-look-at-this-weeks-changes-to-darkfall/">A look at this week's changes to Darkfall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 18:00:00 EST. Those gamers in the EU who jump into <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/chronicles-of-spellborn"><em>The Chronicles of Spellborn</em></a> are able to buy the title as <a href="http://www.amazon.de/Frogster-Interactive-Pictures-Chronicles-Spellborn/dp/B001KEMGHU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1240853331&amp;sr=8-1">a boxed product</a> and thus get the art book which accompanies the box release, but no such luck for North American players. That is, until now. <br /><br />Acclaim has opted to release the art book as a free PDF file, which you can find over at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a>. It's a nice, in-depth look at the game spanning 151 pages of art content and lore. The High Houses, the game's myriad Inhabitants, and of course weapons and armor are all included in <em>The Chronicles of Spellborn</em> art book. If you're already into <em>TCoS</em> or are just curious about it, be sure to <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?page=1&amp;feature=2968&amp;bhcp=1&amp;game=207">grab your free download at MMORPG.com</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/the-chronicles-of-spellborn-art-book-now-available-as-free-pdf/">The Chronicles of Spellborn art book now available as free PDF</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 16:00:00 EST. In a game like <a href="http://www.darkfallonline.com"><em>Darkfall</em></a>, it's hard to get people to fess up to owning powerful weapons of war. But if you're Paragus, you'll find ways to get the information out to the public on some of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/darkfall"><em>Darkfall</em></a>'s coolest features. This time he's gotten to tour the deck of one of <em>Darkfall</em>'s larger ships, the brigantine, thanks to the invitation of The Mercs and Rainbow Ninja clans.<br /><br />Equipped with 8 cannons, a small captain's cabin, and a crew of angry siegers, Paragus was able to <a href="http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1329/dragonqrp.jpg">see the ship in action</a> from the main deck as the clans took on a shoreline city. The cannons, which hit with the damage of a handheld siege hammer but fire from a range greater than that of most defensive cannons, pounded the city from afar and wrecked defenses.<br /><br />Even if you're not a rabid <em>Darkfall</em> enthusiast, the look at naval combat presented in the article is a good read for anyone interested in general PvP warfare. Massively ran a fairly <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/29/gdc09-massively-previews-earthrise/">comprehensive look at <em>Earthrise</em></a> from our meeting with them at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-2009">GDC 2009</a> and the game seems to be coming along rather well in terms of development. We came across something else interesting today over at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a> that might interest our readers. Masthead Studios CEO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/atanas-atanasov">Atanas Atanasov</a> gave MMORPG.com a demo of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise</em></a> which they captured in video in two parts.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?game=331&amp;play=1413&amp;view=videos&amp;cplayer=qt&amp;bhcp=1">first video</a> introduces some of the core aspects of playing <em>Earthrise</em>, with the system of skills, abilities, tactics, and stances explained briefly while moving about in a starter zone. The second bit of in-game footage <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/331/view/videos/play/1414/InGame-Tour-Combat-and-Zones.html">focuses on <em>Earthrise</em>'s zones</a>. It shows off the contrast between the utopian Eastern Gardens and a devastated region, once a city and now a buffer between the game's civilized areas and the wasteland. Both videos are worth checking out <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?game=331&amp;view=videos&amp;bhcp=1">over at MMORPG.com</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/09/earthrise-videos-show-game-mechanics-and-zones/">Earthrise videos show game mechanics and zones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 18:00:00 EST. During last week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/gdc-09-a-candid-interview-with-age-of-conans-game-director/">GDC interview with Craig Morrison</a>, the <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> game director spoke with us about the future of the game and the new direction the team is taking to get new players in and old players back. One of those methods he mentioned was a free trial "coming next week". The prophecy has come true, and the <em>Age of Conan</em> free trial giveaways have begun!<br /><br />You can head over to the <em>AoC</em> main site to download <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com/trial/">your very own 7-day trial</a> (and promotional video), or look for site-specific trials popping up on various MMO fan outlets. If the game can live up to expectations, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/free-realms"><em>Free Realms</em></a> may just be a game that both adults and young kids can enjoy. The art style of <em>Free Realms</em> is distinctive and this carries over to the look of the characters themselves. Carolyn Koh from <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a> recently caught up with <em>Free Realms</em> art director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/rosie-rappaport">Rosie Rappaport</a> and associate art director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sebastian-strzalkowski">Sebastian Strzalkowski</a> to talk about some of the game's character customization options. <br /><br />The interview kicks off with a discussion of the inspiration for the art style we'll soon see in <em>Free Realms</em>, but the discussion focuses heavily on the potential for customization. The game will launch with Humans and Pixies as the playable races, with some customization options unique to each race. The title will not have slider bars to scroll through the various character creation options as with some other MMOs, but will have more 'playful' icons that open up the various options for skin tone, face paint, hairstyles, and wings (in the case of Pixies). According to the SOE artists,<em> "In the case of the Pixies, the wings can be customized to look very elegant and floral or they can be bat-like and scaly." </em><br /><br />If you're interested in the customization options available to Free Realms characters, have a look at the <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?bhcp=1&amp;game=376&amp;feature=2845">MMORPG.com interview with the title's artists</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/26/free-realms-interview-explains-character-customization-options/">Free Realms interview explains character customization options</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 26 Mar 2009 18:00:00 EST. Zinkievich discusses that initial excitement the Cryptic Studios team had when they obtained the license to create <em>Star Trek Online</em>, and the process of deciding what the IP's MMO universe should encompass. <br /><br />This was no small task. The Star Trek universe spans decades across multiple television incarnations and film, so the challenge wasn't so much about what to include, but what <em>not</em> to include while making sure that the setting is fleshed out. The developers asked themselves how they could make the MMO universe of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> a place where there's more to being part of the setting than energizing transporters all day. And how to incorporate the roles of characters seen in Star Trek television and film into the MMO?<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/star-trek-online-producer-blog-explains-early-choices-made-in-de/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Trek Online producer blog explains early choices made in development</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/star-trek-online-producer-blog-explains-early-choices-made-in-de/">Star Trek Online producer blog explains early choices made in development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 10:00:00 EST. Kim Tae Gon has written another developer journal for MMORPG.com about his game, <a href="http://atlantica.ndoorsgames.com/center/default.asp"><em>Atlantica Online</em></a>. This <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?feature=2795&amp;page=1&amp;game=346&amp;bhcp=1">bi-weekly journal</a> delves into <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/atlantica-online"><em>Atlantica</em></a>'s many dungeon types and how they reach over and affect the social state of gameplay in groups.<br /><br />Where most games have only instances and raids, <em>Atlantica</em> offers many different types of <a href="http://atlantica.ndoorsgames.com/center/guide/dungeon.asp">dungeons</a>. Some of their dungeons, the individual dungeons, are targeted towards one player where other dungeons, such as the nation dungeons, are targeted towards 500 players at once (50 players from 10 guilds). This makes <em>Atlantica</em> into a very expansive game that caters to almost all tastes and playstyles, and has the bonus side effect of bolstering the community to formulate plans with one another.<br /><br />Kim's <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?feature=2795&amp;page=1&amp;game=346&amp;bhcp=1">full developer journal</a> can be found at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a>, where he gets into the specifics of his goals in creating all of these types of dungeons and how to access them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/atlantica-developer-journal-explains-dungeon-options/">Atlantica developer journal explains dungeon options</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 19:00:00 EST. It's been some time since <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Age-of-Conan/">Age of Conan</a></em> had an active developer blog. In fact, looking at the calendar reveals that no such blog has existed since launch day back in May 2008. In all fairness, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/FunCom/">FunCom</a> has been a little busy with bug fixing, balancing, content throughput and some fairly massive overhauls of game systems. Still, it's nice to have a place for <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs.cfm?isapi_rewrite_remap=Athelan%2F032009%2F3466&amp;bhcp=1">subscribers and interested onlookers to read up on the latest updates</a> -- especially since the stuff that's been added back into the game really deserves some attention.<br /><br />For the first post of the newly resurrected dev blog, FunCom's Glen "Famine" Swan <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/age-of-conan-launches-new-patch-introduces-xibaluku/">sticks with discussing the newest update</a> and touches on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/01/checking-in-with-age-of-conans-game-director/">the itemization overhaul coming up next</a>. It's a good start, but a post talking about the mistakes made pre-launch and corrections since then would be a wise choice, we think. It never hurts to cop to your mistakes, and then show how you resolved them.<hr />

Leveling content and endgame are two completely different things. Most people think that they can just jump into raiding without any new learning curve, but those people need to understand that they're pretty wrong. Raiding is a brand new world with brand new rules.<br /><br />Good for those who are new to the raiding scene that MMORPG's <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> correspondent Dana O'Shea will be doing a <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/15/feature/2754/The-Virtues-of-the-Effective-Raider-Part-One.html">multi-part guide on learning raiding</a>. The initial guide can be applied directly to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>, but some of the advice is great for any endgame player in any game. Some tips go beyond just the game itself and can be applied to most situations where you need a large group to take down an objective.<br /><br />For the <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/15/feature/2754/The-Virtues-of-the-Effective-Raider-Part-One.html">full guide</a>, check it out over at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/a-few-tips-for-the-newbie-raiders-out-there/">A few tips for the newbie raiders out there</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 26 Feb 2009 19:00:00 EST. A publishing deal struck between <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE</em></a>'s developer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/atari">Atari</a> means that the game may well see an influx of players in the coming months. <br /><br />MMORPG.com's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jon-wood">Managing Editor Jon Wood</a> caught up with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ryan-dancey">Ryan Dancey</a>, Chief Marketing Officer at <a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP Games</a>, and the two discussed how <em>EVE</em>'s shift away from being a purely digital product will affect the game. Also notable is that Dancey gives the details of what that $39.95 (&euro;39.99) for the box will buy: Mac and PC versions; a Career Guide for new pilots; 60 days of game time that can be <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/30_Day_Concord_Pilot_License_Extension">converted into PLEX</a>; automatically have needed standings for factional warfare; a VIP pass which <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/eve-online-offers-free-game-time-incentive-to-recruit-friends/">functions like the Buddy Program</a>; and a shuttle with expanded cargo capacity. These <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/rumors-surface-of-extras-included-with-eve-online-retail-release/">extras were previously rumored to be included</a> with the <em>EVE</em> retail purchase, but Ryan Dancey's comments in the MMORPG.com interview would seem to confirm those rumors. <br /><br />Have a look at the rest of the <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?page=1&amp;feature=2735&amp;game=14&amp;bhcp=1">interview focused on <em>EVE Online</em>'s retail release</a> for more on how the publishing deal between CCP Games and Atari is shaping up. <br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/23/eve-online-interview-confirms-details-of-retail-release/">EVE Online interview confirms details of retail release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 23 Feb 2009 20:00:00 EST. The folks over at <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a> seem to have smuggled a few more screenshots out of <a href="http://www.jumpgateevolution.com"><em>Jumpgate Evolution</em></a> for everyone's perusal. Eleven new images of the game have been <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?feature=2712&amp;page=1&amp;game=297&amp;bhcp=1">added to their online gallery</a>, each one quite gorgeous and jaw dropping. The screenshots themselves are centered around the various types of ships and starbases that can be encountered in the game, as well as some locales like jumpgates and asteroid fields.<br /><br />We have to keep reminding ourselves that this is a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17d0GB-FyTM">very fast paced space shooter</a> that requires both speed and precision, but how are we suppose to be precise when we're looking at how pretty everything in the game is? We just hope they make everything into a blur, otherwise it's going to be really hard for us to pull away from the scenery to shoot down some enemies.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/new-looks-into-jumpgate-evolution/">New looks into Jumpgate Evolution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 19 Feb 2009 18:00:00 EST. One such game that we've written about is <a href="http://www.globalagendagame.com/Index.html"><em>Global Agenda</em></a>, an MMO that uses Unreal Engine 3, which its developer <a href="http://www.hirezstudios.com/">Hi-Rez Studios</a> describes as a futuristic <em>"spy-fi world of advanced technology and player-driven conflict." </em><br /><br /><a href="http://www.mmorpg.com">MMORPG.com</a> recently ran a Q&amp;A with Todd Harris, Executive Producer for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/global-agenda"><em>Global Agenda</em></a>: "Top Three Questions about Global Agenda... Answered!" The developer journal addresses the fact that Global Agenda is more about tactics than twitch. Despite being a (third person) shooter, the game has RPG elements. Harris writes, <em>"... your character actions and contributions affect the outcome of a single mission (like an FPS), your character career (like and RPG), and your agency's long-term Campaign goals (like a strategy game.)"</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/10/global-agenda-qanda-explains-hi-rez-studios-approach-to-sci-fi-mmo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Global Agenda Q&amp;A explains Hi-Rez Studios approach to sci-fi MMO</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/10/global-agenda-qanda-explains-hi-rez-studios-approach-to-sci-fi-mmo/">Global Agenda Q&amp;A explains Hi-Rez Studios approach to sci-fi MMO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 10 Feb 2009 20:00:00 EST.
