We haven't heard much about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/karos-online/"><em>Karos Online</em></a> since its 2010 launch. It seems as though the title struggled to find an audience over the past two years and is now facing the end of its days. The team announced that <em>Karos Online</em> will be shutting down soon and urged its community to migrate to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/rosh-online/"><em>Rosh Online</em></a>.<br />
<br />
As of today, new accounts for <em>Karos </em>are disabled, and current players will be unable to purchase in-game currency for the cash shop. <em>Karos Online</em> will spend its next week spinning down its wheels before turning off the lights on April 13th.<br />
<br />
Happily, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ignited-games/">Ignited Games</a> has created a generous welcome package for <em>Karos </em>players willing to make the jump to <em>Rosh Online</em>. The benefits for doing so include in-game goodies and the conversion of cash shop currency to a compatible equivalent. On top of that, <em>Karos </em>players can jump into higher-level <em>Rosh </em>characters depending on how high they leveled their <em>Karos</em> contemporaries.<br />
<br />

	We all know that one guy who flits between MMOs with the same attention span as an ADD goldfish on cocaine. Heck, we've probably been there ourselves a few times. Well, CNN's Geek Out blog has decided to take a look at the migratory patterns of the MMO gamer in his natural habitat, and the timing couldn't be more perfect. With the recent release of <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>, gamers everywhere are deciding whether or not to migrate.<br />
	<br />
	The author of the piece takes a look at the comparative subscription numbers of major players in the MMO game, and speaks to Warner Bros. Entertainment's <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/jim-drewry">Jim Drewry</a> and <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/adam-mersky">Adam Mersky</a> regarding how the folks behind <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/lord-of-the-rings-online"><em>Lord of the Rings Online</em></a> deal with MMO migration. It's really a rather interesting look into the culture, so click on through the link below to give it a read.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/31/cnn-observes-the-migration-habits-of-the-elusive-wild-gamer/">CNN observes the migration habits of the elusive wild gamer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 20:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.lotro.com"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/lotro-migration-epl-609.jpg" style="border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div>
It's been about a week since European players of <a href="http://www.lotro.com"><em>Lord of the Rings Online</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/moving-day-lotro-eu-players-begin-transfer-to-turbines-global/">began the migration over</a> to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Turbine/">Turbine</a>'s servers, and the transition has not been nearly as smooth as one could hope. That having been said, the team is working diligently behind the scenes to try to address the issues many players are experiencing, with community manager <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Sapience/">Sapience</a> making a post today <a href="http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?400844-EU-Migration-issues-Update-6-9-11">outlining the two major fixes coming up</a> to try to alleviate the issues.<br />
<br />
The first fix will be a simple patch to the migration tool itself, which is expected to be live on Friday or shortly thereafter. The other fix will require some server downtime as the team works at fixing some database issues. Sapience also explains that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Codemasters/">Codemasters</a> had previously flagged some accounts incorrectly with the database migration, and he promises that the players missing VIP time will be addressed sometime next week. While it won't remove the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Lord-of-the-Rings-Online/">Lord of the Rings Online</a></em> migration issues, it's at least <a href="http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?400844-EU-Migration-issues-Update-6-9-11">a step in the right direction</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/09/updates-on-migration-issues-for-lord-of-the-rings-online/">Updates on migration issues for Lord of the Rings Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 09 Jun 2011 21:00:00 EST. It was inevitable that a wave of <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> players would be taken away from the game for <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>. It is also inevitable that many of those players would return to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wow">WoW</a> after trying out the new shinies. Yet, according to <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/blizzard-wizard">a recent interview</a> with <a href="http://www.blizzard.com">Blizzard</a> COO Paul Sams at <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz">GamesIndustry.biz</a>, more than half of the players that left <em>WoW</em> for <em>WAR</em> have since returned.<br /><br />Sams states that this a typical trend for new MMO releases. <em>"We've certainly had some of that happen, which is the same thing we experienced with </em><a href="http://www.ageofconan.com">Age of Conan</a><em> and each time an MMO has come out we've seen some amount of reduction of use." </em>He also gives his respect to <a href="http://www.mythicentertainment.com/">Mythic</a> and everything they're doing, stating that he thinks <em>"</em>Warhammer<em> is best positioned to succeed out of the various products that have come out thus far since </em>World of Warcraft<em> has come out." </em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/wow-players-coming-back-from-the-war/">WoW players coming back from the WAR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 16 Oct 2008 13:00:00 EST.
