<div align="left">This weekend is going to be a time for many to get together and do some grilling out and partying! Meanwhile in Azeroth, the Midsummer Fire Festival is wrapping up, so we wanted to take a quick peek in and see how things are going there. Today's <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a> </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/One-Shots/">One Shots</a> finds us in the company of Hollyberry from the Bronze Dragonflight EU server. She writes in: <em>Dizzy dizzy and even more so.... tripping the light fantastic in Duskwallow Marsh out side Theramore, is Hollyberry, Night Elf Druid - taking time out from her adventures to enjoy the festival...</em><br /><br />We hope you all have a fun, relaxing, and safe weekend with friends, family, and fire - or fireworks! If you manage to catch some MMO time, why not grab a screenshot of your favorite MMO and send it in to us here at <strong>oneshots AT massively DOT com</strong> along with your name, the name of the game, and a brief description. We'll show it off and give you credit for sending it in!<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/">One Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2704109"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os864_eq2_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2700179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os863_fe_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2695825"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os862_lotro_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2691569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os861_co_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2687909"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os860_wow_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></div>

My American sources tell me this is a long weekend for you folks across the pond. Something about <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Day_%28United_States%29">independence</a> from Blighty a few hundred years ago. Essentially an excuse to let off fireworks, have BBQs, enjoy the fine weather and skive off work. Good on you. It seems like lots of MMOs are using it as an excuse to take the real celebrations in-game. For example, <a href="http://massively.com/tag/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> has the <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/events/midsummer/">Midsummer Fire Festival</a> which concludes tomorrow with a bunch of snoozing goblin guards and a whopping fireworks display. Likewise, <a href="http://massively.com/tag/lord-of-the-rings-online"><em>Lord of the Rings Online</em></a> has <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/a-complete-guide-to-the-lotro-summer-festival/">one festival</a> with four different names.<br /><br />Given the fact the games are created by humans, it's no surprise the in-game festivals of all our favourite MMOs share a little in common with actual celebrations in real life. However they can also be handy for people too far away to meet up this 4th of July, most often troops on active duty or family members and friends separated by thousands of miles or even continents. So are any of you out there planning to eschew real celebrations in favour of meeting up with your guildies in-game? Are you going to travel around to see the fireworks or, if you play, <em>WoW</em> raid an enemy city. Do you prefer celebrating such events in-game? Do you mark them on your calendar and anticipate them as much as their real world counterparts? Do you wish the developers would expand world festivals to take account of more important holidays?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/the-daily-grind-celebrating-real-holidays-virtually/">The Daily Grind: Celebrating real holidays virtually</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 08:00:00 EST. <div align="left">There's only a few days left before the fireworks fizzle out as the Midsummer Fire Festival comes to an end on July 4th. Why not go out with a bang, the next time you fire up <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> be sure to grab one last ribbon do-si-do, juggle a few torches, honor and steal those remaining bonfire flames, or slay Lord Ahune for that friend you promised, you do keep your promises don't you? <br /><br />If you have nothing else to do you could <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/23/tip-run-midsummer-as-a-lowbie/">run your lower-level alts around the world</a> to collect all the different bonfire flames for some pretty decent experience gains. If you are struggling on <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/22/midsummer-fun-the-midsummer-merchant/">what to spend your burning blossoms</a> on <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/midsummer-fire-festival/"><em>WoW</em> Insider has you covered</a>. A lot of players are saying this is the best event in a long time, thanks to some new festivities. You better celebrate the good times before its too late and back to the dailies routine again! <br /></div>

Yet another outstanding in-game holiday is upon us, as the <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a></em> continues to change before our eyes. <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/20/midsummer-fire-festival-starts-tomorrow/">The Midsummer Fire Festival is rolling out today</a>, with numerous changes incorporated into this year's festivities. Unlike the lackluster event of years past, <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/events/midsummer/">Fire Fest '08</a> incorporates some of the best elements of <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/brewfest/">Brewfest</a>, <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/lunar-festival">the Lunar Festival</a>, and the last overhauled holiday: <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/hallows-end/">Hallow's End</a>. <br /><br />Players can participate in <a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?quests=9.-369">a number of holiday-themed activities</a>. These include: frolicking around a fire pole, visiting a number of bonfires scattered around the world, torch tossing, and <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/02/23/meet-lord-ahune/">a boss encounter</a> deep in the heart of the slave pens. Taking part will earn a special event currency, called Burning Blossoms. <a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Midsummer_Fire_Festival">Blossoms can be turned in at merchants for special seasonal rewards</a>. The rewards range from some simple particle effects all the way up to a mini-pet, the Spirit of Summer. The fest should already be in full swing, so get yourself into town and light that fire!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/21/world-of-warcrafts-midsummer-fire-festival-starts-today/">World of Warcraft's Midsummer Fire Festival starts today!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 21 Jun 2008 09:30:00 EST. You'd think by now that game companies would realize that the summer months were prime time for gaming, and that we'd get more releases in May, June, and July, but that's not usually the case -- most of the time, releases are crammed into that all-important fourth quarter, so it's feast from September through January, and famine right around now.<br /><br />So we're waiting to play things instead of playing them this week, whether it be <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/"><em>Warhammer</em></a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/jumpgates-peterscheck-talks-shop-massive-battleships/"><em>Jumpgate Evolution</em></a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/gearing-up-for-guild-wars-2/"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a>, or any other upcoming MMO that you just can't wait to play (but have to anyway). Not that there aren't things to do -- you could get ready for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/new-empyrean-age-trailer/">the Empyrean Age</a> in <em>EVE</em>, play some more with the original <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/guild-wars-the-best-solo-quasi-mmog-out-there/"><em>Guild Wars</em></a>, or visit <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/20/midsummer-fire-festival-starts-tomorrow/">the Midsummer Fire Festival</a> this weekend (with new Frost Lord boss!) in <em>World of Warcraft</em>. So tell us, dear readers: What aRe yoU Playing lately? Leave a comment below and let us know what you've been up to in the MMO genre.<br /><br />Around the Massively HQ, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> is still getting a turn, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/trs-lead-designer-answers-your-questions/"><em>Tabula Rasa</em> is experiencing a resurgence</a> of sorts, but as usual, we're playing it all.
