There's less than a month left before the release of <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/goingrogue"><em>Going Rogue</em></a>, something that many <em><a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com">City of Heroes</a> </em>players are looking forward to with heavy anticipation. The team at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Paragon-Studios/">Paragon Studios</a> has been anything but stingy with information about the upcoming expansion as well -- they've been more than happy to share just how impressive the features are going to be. We had a chance to catch up with the the team at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/SDCC-2010/">SDCC 2010</a>, which gave us the opportunity to take a closer look and get a few more insights about the game's development.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-War-Witch-Bianco/">Melissa "War Witch" Bianco</a> was on hand to share several details about the game's upcoming improvements, and while many of the elements previewed at the convention are familiar to players following <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Going-Rogue/">Going Rogue</a></em>, there are some new revelations beneath the cut. If you're allergic to cuts, you can at least take solace in the confirmed fact that the expansion will feature seven new costume sets, including the Praetorian Police costume and the Resistance outfit. For more on missions and how they'll be implemented in the upcoming <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em> expansion, click on away.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/sdcc-2010-melissa-bianco-on-lessons-and-innovations-in-city-of/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SDCC 2010: Melissa Bianco on lessons and innovations in City of Heroes Going Rogue</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/sdcc-2010-melissa-bianco-on-lessons-and-innovations-in-city-of/">SDCC 2010: Melissa Bianco on lessons and innovations in City of Heroes Going Rogue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 27 Jul 2010 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> has been running for six solid years, and whether you're a current or former player (or someone never that interested in superheroes for some reason), that's a running time to be proud of. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Paragon-Studios/">Paragon Studios</a> certainly thinks so, which is why they're hosting a full month's worth of anniversary celebration. The party kicks off in full force on April 28th -- not just the day of the anniversary, but the launch of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Issue-17/">Issue 17</a> and all its varied improvements. But that's <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/news_archive/city_of_heroes_6_year_annivers.html">just the beginning</a>, as are the badge, free respec, and free costume change token being given to players on the anniversary. <br />
<br />
Monday and Tuesday before the anniversary itself promise some exciting and chaotic content, quite possibly including a special title for participants. The test servers will also be remaining open to give players a chance to play with the dev team on the anniversary itself, followed by an in-game address from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-War-Witch-Bianco/">Melissa "War Witch" Bianco</a> at 8 PM EST (5 PM PST). With the promise of an upcoming contest to promote your loyalty a la <a href="http://www.guildwars2.com"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> and with <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/goingrogue"><em>Going Rogue</em></a> just around the corner, there's never been a better time to enjoy <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/23/big-celebrations-coming-for-six-years-of-city-of-heroes/">Big celebrations coming for six years of City of Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 11:30:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-War-Witch-Bianco/">Melissa "War Witch" Bianco</a> is without a doubt one of the leading ladies of the MMO world, a title she said she could definitely get used to. But as she says it, that hasn't made an impact on her in some ways, because she never felt there was a bias to overcome at either <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic</a> or the current <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Paragon-Studios/">Paragon Studios</a>. "<em>I don't know if I just happened to be in a company that wasn't like that</em>," she says, "<em>or if I'm just so awesome it didn't matter</em>."<br />
<br />
We would certainly believe either. Bianco is riding fairly high on success at the moment in the eyes of many players, having a solid track record of revamped and improved zones coupled with a highly-anticipated expansion on the way. We had a chance to speak with her after the <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> panel to talk about more future plans for the game, aiming for several of the more outlying areas in the game's development. Read on past the cut for her answers ranging from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/a-mild-mannered-reporter-death-to-the-warehouse-map/">the immortal warehouse map</a> to the possibility of new epic archetypes.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/30/pax-east-2010-our-interview-with-melissa-bianco-of-city-of-hero/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX East 2010: Our interview with Melissa Bianco of City of Heroes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/30/pax-east-2010-our-interview-with-melissa-bianco-of-city-of-hero/">PAX East 2010: Our interview with Melissa Bianco of City of Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 30 Mar 2010 13:00:00 EST. Unpacking the <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> panel at <a href="http://www.paxsite.com/">PAX East</a> is a big deal: there were huge amounts of information being thrown around, and a lot of new pieces of information to process. For that matter, there was far more than anyone expected, with information about the full spread of new issues up to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Issue-19/">Issue 19</a> and the reveal of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Positron-Miller/">Matt "Positron" Miller</a>'s heretofore unrevealed new endgame system. The panel as a whole featured a huge breadth of information about the game from concept into the future, and was filled with people long before the official start time, with fans vocally professing their adoration for the team the whole way through.<br />
<br />
We had the good fortune to be front and center at the theatre, and once we started taking notes we didn't really stop until the event was over. At the panel were lead designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-Bianco/">Melissa Bianco</a>, former lead designer and current lead system designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Miller/">Matt Miller</a>, art lead <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/David-Nakayama/">David Nakayama</a>, and development producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jesse-Caceres/">Jesse Caceres</a>. They opened off with a discussion of the game's history from launch back in 2004 to the present. The changeover from Cryptic to Paragon Studios was discussed in brief, mentioning that four of the major launch employees (Miller, Bianco, CW Bennet, and Brian Clayton) were still with Paragon even after the change.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/28/pax-east-2010-city-of-heroes-panel-reveals-many-things/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX East 2010: City of Heroes panel reveals many things</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/28/pax-east-2010-city-of-heroes-panel-reveals-many-things/">PAX East 2010: City of Heroes panel reveals many things</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 28 Mar 2010 20:00:00 EST. If you've played <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> from levels 1 to anything, you already know the map I'm talking about. The more levels you've been through, the more you've seen it. Heck, you probably knew exactly what map I was talking about just from the subject line, because... well, it's the warehouse map.<br />
<br />
As I was thinking about this week's column, I was trying to figure out why it is that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> gets criticized as often as it does for being "repetitive." I'd gladly concede the point, but the follow-up question becomes, well, what's so inherently different between the gameplay here as opposed to <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>, or <a href="http://everquest2.station.sony.com"><em>EverQuest II</em></a>, or <a href="http://www.lotro.com"><em>Lord of the Rings Online</em></a>, or even <a href="http://www,ddo.com"><em>Dungeons and Dragons Online</em></a>? How is killing X of critter Y for questgiver Z in any way less repetitive than punching the Fifth Column around for the hundredth time?<br />
<br />
But with the recent addition of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-War-Witch-Bianco/">Melissa "War Witch" Bianco</a> as lead designer, with her promises of "more content," I formed at least part of an idea of why that pointless accusation will not go away. And I believe the blame can be laid squarely at the feet of that stupid warehouse map.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/a-mild-mannered-reporter-death-to-the-warehouse-map/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A Mild-Mannered Reporter: Death to the warehouse map!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/a-mild-mannered-reporter-death-to-the-warehouse-map/">A Mild-Mannered Reporter: Death to the warehouse map!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 03 Feb 2010 18:00:00 EST. It's been a quiet week on <a href="http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Croatoa">Lake Salamanca</a>... well, actually, all across <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>, when you get right down to it. For those of us not on the inside, it looked as if nothing of interest was happening with the game. But that's apparently quite far from the truth, since it appears there have been <a href="http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=206504">quite a few internal shakeups</a> over the holiday season and most of the month.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Miller/">Matt Miller</a>, longtime lead designer of <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em>, has passed the mantle on to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-Bianco/">Melissa Bianco</a>. Miller is continuing to work on the game, but will be involved in rather vaguely-described endgame systems as well as some undisclosed projects. Bianco (also known as "War Witch" in keeping with the developer nicknaming scheme) has already <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/3/feature/3946/New-Lead-Designer-Interview.html">given an interview</a> on her plans and the state of <em>CoH</em>, with promises of new content before and after <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/goingrogue"><em>Going Rogue</em></a> goes live.<br />
<br />
And speaking of <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Going-Rogue/">Going Rogue</a></em>, we're promised <a href="http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=206504">more frequent pieces of information</a> on the expansion, which has seen very little revealed since its announcement. There's also an opportunity to take part in <a href="http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=206472">a community Q&amp;A with Bianco</a>. The quiet week seems to be over... which is really for the best, when you get right down to it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/21/city-of-heroes-unveils-new-lead-designer/">City of Heroes unveils new lead designer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 21 Jan 2010 18:00:00 EST.
