Yesterday, <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/bloggers/matt-low">Matt Low</a> of the our sister site <a href="http://wowinsider.com">WoW Insider</a> and the very awesome <a href="http://www.worldofmatticus.com/"><em>World of Matticus</em> blog</a> pointed out a fairly interesting conversation going on <a href="http://www.plusheal.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&amp;t=1673">over at PlusHeal</a>. Apparently, the original poster had been using the phrase 'shut up' during a raid to try to quiet down people cross-chattering over voice comms, but after dealing with the upset it caused, they're looking for something new and more effective instead of 'shut up'. <br /><br />Having been a group/raid leader myself, I can say in all honesty that this is absolutely one of my pet peeves; talking during instructions/pulls or loot distribution. It distracts from the important things and can cause quite a bit of confusion. On the flip side, clamping down on cross-chatter <em>too</em> much will make a group or raid feel less like fun with friends and more like a second job. As such, this morning we thought we'd ask you - how do you tell your group to quiet down without sounding like the guy from the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtvIYRrgZ04">Onyxia Wipe animation</a>? (Link language NSFW) Are there any phrases or methods you've found effective to quiet a noisy group down without ruffling feathers? Or sometimes are you justified in telling people to shut it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/06/the-daily-grind-how-do-you-say-shut-up/">The Daily Grind: How do you say 'shut up'?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 06 Mar 2009 08:00:00 EST. It doesn't sound like it should be a hard question, but once you get into the trenches of raiding you begin to understand exactly how hard of a question it is. Do you continue raiding with your guild, doing the same bosses <a href="http://www.worldofmatticus.com/2009/01/09/the-6-signs-of-raiding-burnout/">over and over again</a> when you know you aren't going to get anything for it while your guild-mates get the gear, or do you just worry about yourself, dropping out of the raids once your appropriately geared up?<br /><br /><a href="http://tobolds.blogspot.com/2009/01/gearing-up-oneself-or-ones-guild.html">Tobold</a> is tackling this issue over at his blog, balancing two posts from two very different gamers. On one hand you have <a href="http://www.worldofmatticus.com/2009/01/07/an-event-every-guild-leader-goes-through-once-in-their-career/">Matticus</a>, a guild leader who just lost a paladin because he was overgeared and wished to take a break from the game until a harder dungeon came along, and on the other you have <a href="http://greedygoblin.blogspot.com/2009/01/take-your-leave.html">Gevlon</a>, the owner of "The Greedy Goblin" who defends the position of said paladin. It's an interesting and thought provoking discussion worthy of checking out, especially if you have any character in a guild officer position or are <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdvwojlEBu0">deep in raiding</a> with your favorite MMO.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/11/gear-yourself-or-gear-your-guild/">Gear yourself or gear your guild?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 11 Jan 2009 09:00:00 EST. Its the one thing no MMO player wants to hear -- the news that their favorite game world -- the place where they've sunk years of time and care into a character (or host of characters) -- is being shut down. This idea actually comes to us via <a href="http://www.worldofmatticus.com/2008/07/09/in-five-hours-the-world-will-end-what-will-you-do/">Matticus</a>, who <a href="http://www.blogazeroth.com/viewtopic.php?t=841">originally asked this question</a> during an interview some time back. <a href="http://35yards.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/all-good-things/">Others</a> <a href="http://automagica.blogspot.com/2008/07/your-last-five-hours-in-wow.html">have</a> <a href="http://e4ae.blogspot.com/2008/07/end-of-world-of-warcraft.html">picked</a> <a href="http://www.destructivereach.com/2008/07/blizzard-are-closing-wow-down-forever-in-five-hours/">up</a> Matticus' question <a href="http://dblbbl.com/content/game-over-five-hours">as</a> <a href="http://gnomeaggedon.wordpress.com/2008/07/01/my-last-5-hours-of-wow-the-gnomeaggedon-cometh/">well</a>, so this morning we thought we'd ask you all what you thought. <br /><br />If word came down that <em>your</em> favorite MMO was shutting down in five hours, which one would it be, and what would you do with your last moments in that world?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/03/the-daily-grind-your-game-world-ends-in-five-hours/">The Daily Grind: Your game world ends in five hours</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 03 Aug 2008 08:00:00 EST.
