<p>Decisions, ultimately, get made because they seem like the best of the available options at the time. Nobody sits down and thinks, "Hey, this is my <em>second best</em> option. I should go with that!" -- they only go with the worse options when nothing better seems to be possible.</p>

Remember "<em>Celebrating the cultural diversity of Second Life</em>"? How about "<em>This is a Resident-created, Linden Lab-sponsored event, which means that Linden Lab has donated the land and various basic resources, but the rest comes from you, the community. And there is room for many people to get involved</em>"?</p>
<p>Well, not any more. Linden Lab feels their hand (and presumably the attached eye) has been forced. Linden Lab is taking "a more active role in the event."</p>

Kirk alleges that <a href="http://secondlife.com/"><em>Second Life</em></a> "is a risk for children, who could be sexually exploited" and has written a letter to the US Federal Trade Commission, urging them to issue a consumer alert to warn of this danger.</p>
