In order to commemorate this momentous occasion, Mythic is selling a limited edition <em>Dark Age of Camelot</em> 10th anniversary lithograph. If you're anything like the folks here at Massively, it's hard for you to figure out the right outfit to wear for gaming. Sweats? Too pathetic. Suit and tie? Too formal. Boxers or briefs? We don't want to know. Fortunately, <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/heatwave-interactive">Heatwave Interactive</a> has come to the rescue with the definitive gaming accoutrement for <a href="http://godsandheroes.com/"><em>Gods &amp; Heroes: Rome Rising</em></a> players: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Gods-Heroes-Collectors-Helmet-Pc/dp/B0051ELBSK/ref=pd_sim_vg_3">a $220 replica of a Roman Centurion Helmet</a>.<br />
<br />
This "fully wearable" helmet <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Gods-Heroes-Collectors-Helmet-Pc/dp/B0051ELBSK/ref=pd_sim_vg_3">is now available for pre-order on Amazon</a>, although you'll have to be quick and lucky to get one, as there are only 200 available. It's described as having "a pronounced red plume and is made of heavy gauge high carbon steel complete with brass accents and fittings."<br />
<br />
No mention is made as to whether this would be useful in a real-life battle or not, so buyer beware if you're purchasing this in the hopes that it will protect you the next time you jump into your time machine and go back to the second century.<br />

We recently mentioned that <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> fans would get a chance to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/players-to-get-hands-on-time-with-star-trek-online-at-eurogamer/">play through a demo of the game</a> at Eurogamer Expo last week. One of the first reports we've read about the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> demo comes from <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/archive.php?author=256">Oli Welsh at Eurogamer</a> who was uniquely positioned to check out the game (it was their Expo after all.) Welsh begins by writing, <em>"Trekkies can put one fear to rest right now: Star Trek Online feels just like Star Trek."</em> Although this might assuage <em>a bit</em> of the apprehension some gamers have about trying yet another Star Trek game, Welsh is up front about the fact that the demo he played through was a contained single player experience. It's too soon to say what gameplay will feel like when hundreds of other players are thrown into the mix. <br />
<br />
He writes about the demo's transitions between locations via warp jumps, keyboard navigation of star ships (standard WASD, with additional throttle control), and the pacing of ship combat. Welsh also walks the reader from the bridge of a Federation vessel down to the surface of a planet where Klingon opponents await. Fans of the game should read <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/star-trek-online-eg-expo-hands-on">Eurogamer's hands on with <em>Star Trek Online</em></a> and may also be interested in the <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com/?p=682">video footage of <em>STO</em> gameplay from Limited Edition</a>, shot at this year's Eurogamer Expo (starting at 02:40. They've also captured gameplay of <a href="http://www.globalagendagame.com"><em>Global Agenda</em></a> as well.) We've got a video embed of that for you after the jump.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/demo-impressions-of-star-trek-online-from-eurogamer-expo-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Demo impressions of Star Trek Online from Eurogamer Expo 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/demo-impressions-of-star-trek-online-from-eurogamer-expo-2009/">Demo impressions of Star Trek Online from Eurogamer Expo 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 02 Nov 2009 17:00:00 EST. We smell some <em><a href="http://www.aiononline.com">Aion</a></em> envy coming from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/runewaker-entertainment">Runewaker Entertainment</a>, but we're not going to complain! We're being offered pretty wings in <em><a href="http://www.runesofmagic.com">Runes of Magic</a></em>!<br /><br />Starting right now and continuing until tomorrow, <a href="http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/news,id421,lord_wings.html">wings will be available for purchase</a> in the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/runes-of-magic">Runes of Magic</a></em> item shop. While it doesn't look like the wings do anything other than look really cool on your character, this is a very limited time item. Because of the limited window of purchase, these wings will most likely become a coveted item very quickly. (As long as they're not offered again later, of course.)<br /><br />If you're interested in grabbing a pair of these feathery wonders, you'll have to do it from inside the game's cash shop menu, under the "special offers" section of the store.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/29/runes-of-magic-offers-players-wings-but-only-until-tomorrow/">Runes of Magic offers players wings, but only until tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 29 Sep 2009 17:30:00 EST. One was written by <span style="font-style: italic;">Mortal Online</span> player <a href="http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/14365-combat-beta-review-1-a.html#post325062">Lachrymose</a> which looked at character creation, melee and ranged combat, while the other <a href="http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/14366-combat-beta-review-2-a.html">review by Shinzon</a> looked at crafting and the game environment, as well as combat. <br /><br /><em>That</em> caught our attention and we think the reviews are worth a look, but the real news here is about the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/star-vault-reveals-mortal-online-beta-and-pre-order-details-lau/"><em>Mortal Online</em> limited edition we mentioned recently</a> -- there are only 999 copies of the limited edition which will go on sale on June 29th in the <a href="http://www.mortalonline.com/gamestore"><em>Mortal Online</em> Game Store</a>. The game is presently in closed beta and is about to get its first test of the release build. The real news here is that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/mortal-online/"><em>Mortal Online</em></a> has announced its open beta and release schedules. <br /><br />Pre-orders for <em>Mortal Online</em> will begin on June 29th via the official site, and the actual launch (with monthly subscriptions) is slated for Q4 2009. Anyone who pre-orders the game <em>"in any of the formats available"</em> will have access to all of the beta phases remaining until the title launches. The catch, however, is that the pre-orders are limited to 10,000 people.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/star-vault-reveals-mortal-online-beta-and-pre-order-details-lau/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Vault reveals Mortal Online beta and pre-order details, launch info</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/star-vault-reveals-mortal-online-beta-and-pre-order-details-lau/">Star Vault reveals Mortal Online beta and pre-order details, launch info</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 07 Jun 2009 20:00:00 EST. While taking down the bad guys in a game is fun, sometimes it's good to be bad, as the newest gameplay footage we've seen of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online"><em>DCUO</em></a> from New York Comic Con shows us.<br /><br />We were pretty excited when we noticed this over at <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com">Limited Edition</a> today and it's certainly worth a look if you're into the superhero games genre. The <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/45242.html">GameTrailers video</a> is a walkthrough of an open PvP area, from the perspective of a psychotic clown with psi-blasts, blazing speed, and freakish strength. When the whole <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/in-game-advertising-headed-to-cox/">in-game adverts debate started</a>, there were people on both sides of the fence, understandably. Some gamers realize that development studios need alternative sources of revenue to create the games we enjoy, while others would rather remove their spleen with a spoon than ever see advertising in their favorite games.<br /><br />Over at the <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com">Limited Edition blog</a>, <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com/?p=374">Welsh Troll takes the side for in-game adverts</a>, and is literally begging for more in <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>. As a European gamer, he tends to see less in-game adverts than is reported by the American <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/city-of-heroes"><em>CoH</em></a> players, and wants to know why. He simply wants to help the development team out, and was hoping this would be the way to do it. Is the model not quite working as intended, or will it just take a bit longer for advertisers to latch on to something like this?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/is-city-of-heroes-in-game-advertising-missing-its-mark/">Is City of Heroes in-game advertising missing its mark?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 17:00:00 EST. Until that fateful patch, no one knew exactly how the statistics system in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-heroes">CoH</a></em> worked or how things were calculated out. But, with that feature now a standard part of the game, it has become a very invaluable tool.<br /><br />But perhaps you're not up to speed on that. Perhaps you've never taken a look at all of those new digits and fancy words on the screen. Well, if you're looking for a basic starter on how to take advantage of this system, the comic blog <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com">Limited Edition </a>has just <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com/?p=330">posted their look</a> into the stats. It's a brief walkthrough of some of the basic features -- good for anyone who hasn't gotten their feet wet with the stats as of yet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/17/crunch-numbers-like-the-bones-of-villains-in-city-of-heroes/">Crunch numbers like the bones of villains in City of Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 15:00:00 EST. We think it's probably common knowledge by now that <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> and <a href="http://eu.cityofvillains.com/"><em>City of Villains</em></a> both have arguably the best character creation process of any MMO out there. This is interesting if you consider the fact that the game has been out for four years now. <br /><br />Over at the <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com/?p=210">Limited Edition blog</a>, John Nicholson has taken an in-depth look at <em>CoH</em> character creation in a video he just posted today. This 17-minute visual aid walks us through the process from start to finish, yet explains that it could literally take hours to refine your character exactly to your likings. If 17 minutes seems long, you haven't experienced this character creator first hand! Take a look at the full video linked below the cut, or fly on over to the <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com/?p=210">LE blog</a> for more information.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/fan-video-spotlights-coh-character-creation/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fan video spotlights CoH character creation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/fan-video-spotlights-coh-character-creation/">Fan video spotlights CoH character creation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 07 Nov 2008 18:00:00 EST. At PAX earlier this year, we were treated to some of the <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/09/08/jumpgate-evolution-shooty-footage/">first real shaky-cam footage</a> of <a href="http://www.netdevil.com/">NetDevil</a>'s <a href="http://www.jumpgateevolution.com"><em>Jumpgate Evolution</em></a> in action. Now, we get a bit more gameplay footage from an attendee of this year's <a href="http://expo.eurogamer.net/">Eurogamer Expo</a> earlier last week.<br /><br />This video comes to us courtesy of the <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com/?p=191">Limited Edition blog</a>, and shows over eight minutes of the game being played off and on. We can see some great footage of combat, exploration and achievements in this video. Considering this video contains more than just <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jumpgate-evolution/">Jumpgate</a></em>, you can jump in around the 2:17 mark and watch until 10:26 for the <em>Jumpgate</em>-only content. Of course you could always watch the entire 15:44 video for more on non-MMO-related Eurogamer Expo goodness.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/new-jumpgate-evolution-footage-from-eurogamer-expo/">New Jumpgate Evolution footage from Eurogamer Expo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 12:00:00 EST. But the former Creative Concepts Manager for <a href="http://eu.plaync.com/eu/">NCsoft Europe</a> does talk a good bit with <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com">John</a> and Matt (former hosts of <a href="http://www.rgtr.com"><em>Tabula Rasa</em></a>'s <a href="http://www.tabulacast.com">TabulaCast</a>) on the <a href="http://www.virginworlds.com/podcast.php?show=27&amp;ep=2">Limited Edition Podcast</a> about all things comic-related. Despite the bad news of his recent departure from NCsoft, Reid has <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com/?p=106">just announced a new gig</a> as Expo Community and Gaming Manager for the <a href="http://expo.eurogamer.net/">Eurogamer Expo</a>. This is certainly good news, as Reid has always been loved by the gaming community. <br /><br />Reid's only comments on the podcast regarding his departure from NCsoft were,<em> "It ultimately comes down to business, nothing more."</em> He also discusses the reaction of his <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> colleagues to the <a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com/"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a> development, and chats a good bit about his views of <em><a href="http://www.champions-online.com/">Champions Online</a></em>. <em><a href="http://www.silkroadonline.net/">Silkroad Online</a></em> is an MMO based on the historical Silk Road between Asia and Europe, wherein players can adventure as merchants, thieves, or hunters. And now, as befitting the feel of the period, players have access to Arabian-themed outfits that provide a boost to your character's stats. These outfits are only available for a short time, so players ought to jump on this like it's a magic carpet!<br /><br />Expect to see more from <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/silkroad-online/">Silkroad Online</a></em> in the coming months.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/silkroad-online-offers-limited-edition-arabian-garb/">Silkroad Online offers limited edition Arabian garb</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 10:00:00 EST.
