When this communication does happen the interchange of thoughts and feelings normally comes from the developers via patch notes and a backlash from the players ensues. Well, the backlash is pretty constant regardless if there is a patch or not; however, when a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/nerf/">nerf</a> is cast the community is torn asunder, approval ratings drop, and threadnaughts spawn. Any civility on the forums is devoured while moderators furiously try to quell the riots. <br /></div>
<br />This reaction and a lack of communication are to be expected, but what would more explanatory thoughts look like in the form of an open letter? Over on <a href="http://lagorama.com/">LagORama</a>, the hilarious Inhibitor vicariously penned such correspondence from both viewpoints: the <a href="http://lagorama.com/an-open-letter-to-mmorpg-developers-from-your-player">players addressing the developers</a> and the <a href="http://lagorama.com/an-open-letter-to-mmorpg-players-from-your-devs">developers addressing their players.</a> What an interesting and hilarious take from both sides, and who knew that some MMORPG developers actually played their own game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/why-can-t-mmorpg-players-and-developers-just-get-along/">Why can't MMORPG players and developers just get along?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 22:00:00 EST. <p>The <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ryzom">Saga of Ryzom</a></em> (or just <em>Ryzom</em> for marketing purposes), has had a pretty rocky time in the market, struggling and never quite taking off. Poor <em>Ryzom</em>, even spiffy advertising on <a href="http://www.penny-arcade.com/">Penny Arcade</a> could not save you.</p>
<p>As we posted back in early February, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/02/saga-of-ryzom-may-be-going-sunset/">things were starting to fall apart, and servers beginning to close</a>. The last of them finally did in mid-February. Game over, right? Well, maybe not.</p><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/the-saga-of-the-saga-of-ryzom-not-over-yet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The saga of the Saga of Ryzom: Not over yet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/the-saga-of-the-saga-of-ryzom-not-over-yet/">The saga of the Saga of Ryzom: Not over yet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 09:00:00 EST. It was only a matter of time before these "<a href="http://www.socyberty.com/Sociology/Runescape-The-Downfall-of-Todays-Youth.65725">learned scholars</a>" targeted specific genres within gaming. Guess which type currently has a big ole bulls eye painted on its back? That's right... our beloved <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/">MMORPG</a>.<br /><br />These so-called "<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/study-mmo-players-play-more-and-get-more/">studies</a>" somehow always seem to prove beyond a reasonable doubt (at least to the author espousing such wackiness) that video games have a "corrupting influence" on those who play them and are ruining today's youth no matter how you slice it. They're either causing a gamer's brain to shrink, making them insanely violent, obese, or socially inept. Almost like a drooling, thick-browed caveman.<br /><br />Frankly, this "outcry" is no different then what was going on back when the stodgy, uptight forefathers of today's doom sayers thought Elvis was the Anti-Christ and the Beatles were actually demons bent on defiling anyone who tuned in and danced to their music. Video games are simply this era's excuse for all of society's ills. Whatever. Check out the LogOrama post <a href="http://lagorama.com/your-mmorpg-is-going-to-kill-you"><em>Your MMORPG Is Going To Kill You</em></a> for even more ludicrous rants and raves.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/wanted-for-murder-mmorpgs/">Wanted for Murder: MMORPGs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 12 Dec 2007 20:15:00 EST.
