While still very much an ongoing concern for the parties involved, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/all-points-bulletin">events surrounding Realtime Worlds and <em>APB</em></a> are beginning to die down for the rest of the MMO community.<br />
<br />
Many people are beginning to look at the overall situation to try and figure out what happened. <a href="http://na.apb.com/en"><em>APB</em></a> was a very promising game, and there was more than a little surprise when things began to go south. <br />
<br />
Kris Graft at <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/">GameSetWatch.com</a> <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2010/08/opinion_fun_is_important_but_s.php">published a detailed editorial</a> exploring <a href="http://www.realtimeworlds.com/">RTW</a>'s past, as well as some of the company's goals and thoughts, and how it all led to the current situation. <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2010/08/opinion_fun_is_important_but_s.php">It's a must-read</a> for anyone who's been following the company over the past few months.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/27/analysis-what-happened-to-realtime-worlds/">Analysis: What happened to Realtime Worlds?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 27 Aug 2010 09:00:00 EST. Kris Graft reports for <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com">Gamasutra</a> that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion"><em>Aion</em></a> generated 40.6 billion won (USD 32.7 million) in Q2 2008, which he notes is a strong start. In an earnings call, NCsoft CFO Jaeho Lee said, <em>"I believe the performance of Aion in the US and European markets will be very successful. ... We are guessing that Aion will be -- </em>could<em> be -- the second [most] successful MMO in the US market next to <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a>." </em><br /><br />Bold optimism, to be sure. What really caught our attention, though, was that Graft pointed out a mention of the now dead-and-buried <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tabula-rasa" style="font-style: italic;">Tabula Rasa</a> during that earnings call, another title NCsoft once had high hopes for in western markets. In answer to a question about how many boxes of <em>Aion</em> will ship as opposed to <em>Tabula Rasa</em>, Gamasutra quotes Lee as having said, <em>"It's very unfortunate to hear the name of Tabula Rasa at this conference call... and we all want to forget and erase that memory from our performance." </em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/12/ncsoft-aims-for-aion-to-be-second-only-to-wow-in-us/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NCsoft aims for Aion to be second only to WoW in US</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/12/ncsoft-aims-for-aion-to-be-second-only-to-wow-in-us/">NCsoft aims for Aion to be second only to WoW in US</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 12 Aug 2009 19:00:00 EST. This fresh angle on lore and setting isn't the only difference between <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mytheon"><em>Mytheon</em></a> and its fantasy MMO competitors -- Petroglyph is banking on the hope that microtransactions will prove more successful for <em>Mytheon</em> than the standard subscription model. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.edge-online.com">Edge Online</a> recently interviewed Petroglyph's general manager Chuck Kroegel, who's also the producer for <em>Mytheon</em>. Kroegel spoke with Edge Online's <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/users/kris-graft ">Kris Graft</a>, and explained Petroglyph's outlook on this alternative business model: <em>"This is a serious commitment on our part... we find it intriguing because we do feel there is a notion of how this could be the way of the future. And if not, it's certainly going to be part of the future. It may not be the only way things are done in regards to the model, but right now it looks to be viable."</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/microtransactions-way-of-the-future-for-mytheon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Microtransactions 'way of the future' for Mytheon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/microtransactions-way-of-the-future-for-mytheon/">Microtransactions 'way of the future' for Mytheon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 19:00:00 EST.
