One of the scariest games I ever played has to be the original <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Hill"><em>Silent Hill</em></a>. A nearly empty town shrouded with fog and featuring one of the most terrifying elementary schools ever devised? Yes, this is why I didn't sleep much in 1999. So when I started to get flashbacks as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/fernando-paiz/">Fernando Paiz</a> took me through the creepy alleyways of <a href="http://www.ddo.com/"><em>Dungeon and Dragons Online's</em></a> upcoming update, I had to excuse myself and run around the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-east/">PAX East</a> show floor for a few minutes while shrieking like a tormented cat.<br />
<br />
OK, it wasn't that frightening, but I definitely was getting a <em>Silent Hill</em> vibe from the latest adventure pack that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/turbine/">Turbine</a> has crafted for the game. Coming "soon" (TM, all rights reserved, void in Utah and the Yukon Territories), <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dungeons-and-dragons-online">DDO's</a></em> Update 9 promises to bring a wide assortment of lavish treats to a hungry populace. At the center of it is a level 15 quest chain that centers around mysterious abductions, a skittish population, and nightmares made flesh.<br />
<br />
Hit the jump as I recall my brush with certain death in these adventures and relate the other jewels of Update 9!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/14/pax-east-2011-stalking-through-ddos-update-9/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX East 2011: Stalking through DDO's Update 9</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/14/pax-east-2011-stalking-through-ddos-update-9/">PAX East 2011: Stalking through DDO's Update 9</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 14 Mar 2011 21:00:00 EST. My <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Ben">Uncle Ben</a> once told me that with great power comes great responsibility. He also was fond of saying that with Update 4 comes great zombie pirates, but we always just assumed he was a bit senile when he'd go on about that.<br />
<br />
Apparently not, as <a href="http://www.ddo.com/">Turbine</a> just released <a href="http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Release_Notes_Update_4_Official">the <em>DDO</em> patch notes for the imminent Update 4</a>, and players of all levels look to be in for a treat. <em>"Adventure steals in from the sea!"</em> they promise, citing a new adventure pack entitled "Sentinels." This pack includes a series of zombie pirate adventures for players levels 6-8, as well as an epic difficulty version for level 20 powerhouses. At PAX East <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/27/pax-east-2010-dungeons-and-dragons-online-update-4-and-beyond/">we got to experience this adventure up close and personal</a>, and walked away impressed with the epic feel of the module.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/05/ddo-releases-zombified-update-4-patch-notes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DDO releases zombified Update 4 patch notes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/05/ddo-releases-zombified-update-4-patch-notes/">DDO releases zombified Update 4 patch notes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 05 Apr 2010 13:00:00 EST. The focus of the next <em><a href="http://everquest.station.sony.com/">EverQuest</a> </em>expansion <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/underfoot"><em>Underfoot</em></a> is the Plane of Underfoot and its cavernous areas, which the god Brell Serilis created and filled with inhabitants. <a href="http://eqplayers.station.sony.com/news_article.vm?id=51634">An update on the EverQuest Players website</a> has given us an early look at one zone from the new expansion, "Brell's Rest". Apparently, the most devout followers of Brell are brought to Brell's Rest upon their demise. Since a healthy mix of races pay homage to the Duke of Below, this means that the area is home to quite a few different factions, including dwarves, gnomes, gnolls and kobolds. <br /><br />While the dwarves and gnomes tend to live a peaceful life in the Shining City section of Brell's Rest, the gnolls and kobolds have traditionally enjoyed ripping each other apart for all eternity. However, in recent times the gnolls have begun to withdraw from their beloved skirmishes, whispering about "The Destroyer" and "The Undying One". That's all we're going to find out for now, but it sounds like an interesting quest-line to look into <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/18/everquests-underfoot-expansion-pushed-back-to-december/">when the expansion is released</a>. The zone is also said to feature an arena for some good old-fashioned warrior games. Along with this chunk of lore, the EverQuest Players site had a handful of Brell's Rest screenshots to show off. We've put them all together for easy viewing in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/everquest-underfoot/">the gallery</a> below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/">EverQuest: Underfoot</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366508"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation2_1680x1050_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation" title="The Foundation" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366507"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation6_1680x1050_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation" title="The Foundation" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366506"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation9_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" title="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366504"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation18_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" title="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366501"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation21_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" title="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/21/a-look-at-brells-rest-from-everquest-underfoot/">A look at Brell's Rest from EverQuest: Underfoot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 21 Sep 2009 11:00:00 EST. We here at Massively love MMOs big and small. We have a special fondness for games that do things just a touch differently, though, so it should be no surprise that we're big fans of <em><a href="http://www.ddo.com">Dungeons and Dragons Online</a></em>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/turbine">Turbine</a>'s action/adventure MMO is a very different animal from your average fantasy game. It's fantastically beautiful, innovate, and coming soon it'll have a whole new passle of content for players new and old. If you've been reading along with the site you've probably already seen <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/dungeons-and-dragons-online-module-8-the-new-player-experience/">Massively's guide to the new player experience</a> coming in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ddo-module-8">DDO Module 8</a>. We also had the chance to go on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ddo-module-8-tour/1103669/">an extensive walkthrough of the new high end content</a>, and that's what we're bringing to you today!<br /><br />Join us as we explore the depths of the Reaver's Refuge, crawl through the Monastery of the Scorpion, and attempt to rescue a dragon from a band of fearsome Frost Giants! We'll run through all the new features in the module, from rune armor to hirelings! We also highly recommend checking out DDOcast's <a href="http://ddocast.com/2008/10/10/hey-buddy--want-a-job.aspx">guide to the hirelings</a> and the <a href="http://ddocast.com/2008/10/13/risia-release-notes-and-more.aspx">entire module patch notes from the <em>Dungeons and Dragons Online</em></a> test realm.<br /><br />But first, take the tour of all-new module 8 content, courtesy of Massively.com.<br /><br />
