Dude, there was a ton of big shooter news this week!<br />
<br />
I mean, this isn't terribly unusual, particularly since the genre is expanding at a rapid rate, but when I've got to cut interesting items out of this column for length reasons, you know it's been an eventful few days.<br />
<br />
Join me after the break for a recap on everything from <a href="http://www.firefallthegame.com"><em>Firefall</em></a> to <em><a href="http://www.defiance.com/en/">Defiance</a></em> to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/john-romero">John Romero</a> and beyond.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/the-firing-line-firefall-defiance-john-romero-and-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Firing Line: Firefall, Defiance, John Romero, and more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/the-firing-line-firefall-defiance-john-romero-and-more/">The Firing Line: Firefall, Defiance, John Romero, and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2012 18:00:00 EST. Whatever <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Gazillion-Entertainment">Gazillion Entertainment's</a> secret mastermind plot is, their next step has been <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25686">to create an unfortunate situation</a> for <a href="http://kotaku.com/5383644/romeros-slipgate-ironworks-hammered-down-mmo-project-still-on">a suspected</a> 50 now ex-employees at Slipgate Ironworks. The reasoning? According to Gazillion, <em>"As part of our focus on reaching the widest possible audiences with breakthrough MMO entertainment, we decided to change the format of our project at Slipgate Ironworks to better achieve this aim,"</em> So, whatever unannounced MMO the team was working on is now canned, it would seem. <br /><br />At least there's a silver lining, in some sense. Gazillion also stated, <em>"-the other Slipgate staff are already in discussions around the many open positions across our slate of projects."</em> You know what? We'd make another world conquering joke here, but that'd be too easy. Instead, we're just going to sit in our chair, pet our cat and sip this lovely whipped latte. Oh, whoops, guess we just can't help ourselves sometimes.<br /><br />Seriously though, next year is going to be interesting, because the official statement alludes to something being released from the publisher next year. Unless they're just talking about <em><a href="http://us.jumpgateevolution.com/">Jumpgate Evolution</a></em> -- at least, we hope that comes out by next year -- and then we're not really sure why they just didn't say as much.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/18/gazillion-layoffs-hit-romeros-slipgate-ironworks/">Gazillion layoffs hit Romero's Slipgate Ironworks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 18 Oct 2009 12:00:00 EST. <p>Well, <a href="http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=12080.0" target="_blank">according to Signe at F13</a>, Auran (or whoever's really in back of the game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/fury" target="_blank"><em>Fury</em></a> these days - funnily enough it appears to be Mike Wilson's Gamecock) wants you to suck it down and stop being such a shameful girly loser in what has to be one of the outright worst MMO incentive emails I've seen so far, endearingly titled "<em>LOSER! This time, <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16523">Sierra</a> has licensed the <a href="http://bigworldtech.com/index/index.php">BigWorld Suite,</a> parts of which are also used in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cheyenne-mountain-entertainment">Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment's</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/stargate-worlds"><em>Stargate Worlds</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/john-romero">John Romero's</a> forthcoming MMO project.<br /><br />The announcement was made by BigWorld Technologies, not <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sierra">Sierra,</a> and it didn't reveal much about the nature of the game, except that it it will be (according to <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com">Gamasutra</a>) "targeting a mass-market audience." <em>King's Quest Online</em>? Probably not, but if only! If you want to know more about BigWorld, <a href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/7810">Ten Ton Hammer did a great interview</a> with one of the guys behind it earlier this year. <br /><br />Oh, and just so you know; Sierra is/was owned by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/vivendi">Vivendi Games,</a> and so is (like <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a>) now part of the epic corporate monstrosity known as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/02/blizzard-rolled-into-activision-blizzard-mega-publisher/">Activision Blizzard.</a> All your studio are belong to us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/sierra-making-mass-market-online-game-with-bigworld-suite/">Sierra making "mass-market" online game with BigWorld suite</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 06 Dec 2007 13:00:00 EST.
