He's snarky, he's tough, he's got a tank-busting missile, and apparently he's got thigh-high red go-go boots. Seriously, look at that picture above and tell us that Iron Man's not getting his fashion tips from the runway.<br />
<br />
In any case, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/marvel-universe-online"><em>Marvel Universe Online</em></a> is proud to reveal its next major superhero in the game's line-up, and Tony Stark is proud that you're giving him your full attention right now. <em>MUO's</em> Iron Man looks similar to the latest movie version, with the triangle chestpiece and ribbed design. If you're a fan of the character, comics, or movies, then this should be a thrill for you! Just try not to think about how small his waist must be to fit into that techno-armor.<br />
<br />
This marks the latest reveal of the Marvel lineup for the game by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gazillion/">Gazillion</a>, which has been slowly rolling out the classic characters for a couple months now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/02/marvel-universe-online-assembles-iron-man/">Marvel Universe Online assembles Iron Man</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 02 Dec 2011 10:00:00 EST. Both superheroes were forged in the depths of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic's</a> MMO factory and both are the "Superman" of their games, but that's where the similarities end. One is the child of an established IP, brought in to anchor the product and establish credible connections to the pen-and-paper version. The other is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/a-mild-mannered-reporter-the-changing-of-the-environment/">the ego of Jack Emmert</a> made manifest, an indomitable presence watching over Paragon City.<br />
<br />
But what if these two heroes did an epic crossover and engaged in one massive PvP session?<br />
<br />
Let's go to the board. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/champions-online"><em>Champions Online's</em></a> Defender is the Iron Man of his franchise, a gifted man who built a powerful suit of armor and gadgets to fight crime. With it, Defender has the powers of flight, super strength, energy blasts, and portable artillery -- not to mention being incredibly tough to take out. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-heroes"><em>City of Heroes'</em></a> Statesman, on the other hand, possesses innate powers of strength, invulnerability, flight, super-speed, and the ability to shoot a lightning bolt up a criminal's bum if the whim strikes him.<br />
<br />
Who would win in this theoretical battle? Hit the jump to vote, and head down to the comments to back your vote up with crazy superhero logic!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/07/leaderboard-champions-onlines-defender-vs-city-of-heroes-sta/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Leaderboard: Champions Online's Defender vs. City of Heroes' Statesman</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/07/leaderboard-champions-onlines-defender-vs-city-of-heroes-sta/">Leaderboard: Champions Online's Defender vs. City of Heroes' Statesman</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 07 Nov 2011 10:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/super-hero-squad-online-no-more-nameless-sidekicks">Last month</a>, we gave you a sneak peek at <a href="http://shsonline.com"><em>Marvel Super Hero Squad Online</em></a>, the shiny new Marvel MMO from <a href="http://gazillion.com">Gazillion Entertainment</a> and <a href="http://amazingsociety.com">The Amazing Society</a>. We showed you an inside look at the gameplay flow of <a href="http://massively.com/tag/super-hero-squad-online"><em>SHSO</em></a>, which allows players to choose from dozens of iconic Marvel characters and take on missions inside the Marvel universe.<br />
<br />
Some people might be thinking of <em>SHSO</em> as the cutesy, kid-oriented Marvel MMO. That might be somewhat true in that it focuses on kid-friendly gameplay, but we got to take another tour of the game at E3, and we found that <a href="http://massively.com/tag/the-amazing-society">The Amazing Society's</a> new offering gives a little something for gamers of all types.<br />
<br />
We spoke with Jay Minn, Director of Games for The Amazing Society, and he had a lot to say about bringing in all kinds of gamers. Join us after the break for the scoop!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/massively-talks-super-hero-squad-online-with-jay-minn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively talks Super Hero Squad Online with Jay Minn</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/massively-talks-super-hero-squad-online-with-jay-minn/">Massively talks Super Hero Squad Online with Jay Minn</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 16 Jun 2010 15:00:00 EST. </a></div>
These days, it takes a lot to impress me. Oh sure, I love MMOs. But sometimes I feel I'm in a rut, waiting for something new and different. Something that doesn't just have a "new" sticker, but actually has some new hook that will keep me happily playing -- not grinding -- more than a month. Something that will make me feel <em>good</em> about being a gamer again. Something cute and friendly that actually relieves stress rather than creating more.<br />
<br />
That's why I was so surprised by <em><a href="http://www.shsonline.com/">Marvel Super Hero Squad Online</a></em>, the official premiere of which I was lucky enough to attend yesterday in downtown San Francisco. (The folks at <a href="http://www.gazillion.com/">Gazillion Entertainment</a> and <a href="http://www.amazingsociety.com/">The Amazing Society</a> put on a great show!) I certainly didn't walk into the event expecting <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/super-hero-squad-online">SHSO</a></em> to pique more than my passing fancy. Comic book-themed games are definitely something I love, and <a href="http://marvel.com/">Marvel</a> couldn't be hotter right now, but let's be honest -- <em>SHSO</em>'s press release and early screenshots suggest an overtly family-friendly, even kid-oriented, cartoony romp. I figured the game would be <em><a href="http://www.freerealms.com/">Free Realms</a></em> in capes, and that Massively's readers would probably be more interested in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/marvel-universe-online/">the other Marvel MMO</a> (simultaneously in development by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gazillion-entertainment/">Gazillion</a> with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gargantuan-studios/">Gargantuan Studios</a>).<br />
<br />
Well, I'm pleased to report that my preconceptions about <em>Super Hero Squad Online</em> were mostly wrong, and now I've got a new upcoming game to add to my "gotta buy" list. Join me on the flipside of the break and find out why <em>SHSO</em> seems poised to *POW* *ZAP* *BLAMMO* the casual MMO sweet spot!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/super-hero-squad-online-0/">Super Hero Squad Online</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/super-hero-squad-online-0/#4560487"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/blade0_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/super-hero-squad-online-0/#4560488"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/blade1_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/super-hero-squad-online-0/#4560489"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/blade2_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/super-hero-squad-online-0/#4560491"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/blade3_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/super-hero-squad-online-0/#4560492"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/blade4_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/super-hero-squad-online-no-more-nameless-sidekicks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Super Hero Squad Online: No more "nameless sidekicks"</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/super-hero-squad-online-no-more-nameless-sidekicks/">Super Hero Squad Online: No more "nameless sidekicks"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 19 May 2010 15:00:00 EST. Between the resounding success of last year's Iron Man film and the fact that power armor is a wholly fresh set of superpowers in <em><a href="http://www.champions-online.com">Champions Online</a></em>, we've had a feeling that they're going to be very popular come launch day. This new trailer for the game does nothing to change our minds, in fact if only solidifies the original assumption.<br /><br />Not that legions of power armor wearing superheroes are a bad thing. On the contrary, we welcome our new armored masters. It's pretty hard to resist things like shoulder mounted mini-guns, micro rockets, energy shields, laser eyes and repulsor beams. The temptation is so strong, actually, that we're not sure how much longer we can sit here and write this post <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/03/champions-online-wants-you-under-its-sorcerous-spell/">before our brain shuts down</a> and... and... brraaainss... <br /><br />Uh, wait. What were we saying? Something about Iron Man... damn him and his armored cranium. You can find a video something or other past the link.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/23/suit-up-in-champions-onlines-power-armor-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Suit up in Champions Online's power armor trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/23/suit-up-in-champions-onlines-power-armor-trailer/">Suit up in Champions Online's power armor trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 23 May 2009 16:00:00 EST. The <strike>Warner Brothers</strike> Reitz-Lang <em>(Sorry, Jason!)</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/machinima/">machinima</a> team in charge of the Gossip Girl set took some time out of their busy schedule to enter the <a href="http://www.theppc.com/silverscreen/">Silverscreen</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/iron-man-fan-art-contest/">Iron Man Fan-Art Contest</a>. <p>Win up to L$100,000 courtesy of Paramount Pictures and Marvel comics by creating Iron Man fan-art in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/second-life"><em>Second Life</em></a>. We don't think our little attempt above will win the prize, honestly.</p>
<p>You can create still images or machinima -- you just have to use the official avatar which is available free with an optional (also free) animation overrider at <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Silverscreen/195/106/29/">Silverscreen Island</a>, where finalists will also be displayed.</p>
<p>Entries need to be emailed in no later than 7PM US Pacific time on Wednesday, 7 May. First prize takes L$100,000 (more than US$370), and second place takes a not unattractive L$25,000. Put the two together and you'll have TV for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/turpstervision/">TurpsterVision</a> -- the best Internet video podcast on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/">Massively</a>! (Never mind that business about it being the only video podcast on Massively...)</em><br /><br />It's that time of the week again folks! For some people out there they have been going through withdraw symptoms since my absence on this week's <a href="http://www.wcradio.com/archives.php?selectArchive=766&amp;autoplay=1">WoW Insider Show</a>. Have no fear, for Super Turpster is here! I have tried to make it up to you guys, even though my schedule is whooping my butt. Thanks to all the folks from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/turpstervision-lord-of-the-dings/">last week</a> who voted Bard, you all win a "Turpster-Patented-Internet-High-Five".<br /><br />I find it very tough in this job to ever be fair to an MMO; I only get a week to play it and produce the review. It's always tough to get a sense of how fantastic it is past the starting zone. That in mind, I do urge all of you out there to try every MMO you can get your hands on. There is so much more out there than just <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.wowinsider.com">World of Warcraft</a> (Blasphemy I hear you scream!) Then again on Massively I feel like I am preaching to the choir!<br /><br />Enjoy the show this week; it was a close shave getting it up in time...in more ways than one! (Join us after the break to find out if Turpster is really allowed to make such horrid innuendo.)<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/turpstervision-an-episode-of-great-impotence/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TurpsterVision: An Episode of Great Impotence</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/turpstervision-an-episode-of-great-impotence/">TurpsterVision: An Episode of Great Impotence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 04 Mar 2008 16:00:00 EST. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Marvel Comics geek; I know what both MODOK and AIM stand for; I remember Wolverine from when he wore those silly little eye-wings and whiskers on his mask; heck, I recall Nick Fury heading up the Howling Commandos. So I was pretty excited to hear about the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/categories/marvel-universe-online"><em>Marvel Universe MMO</em></a>. I had fantasies of playing as my favorite character (Adam Warlock, in case anyone's interested) until I realized that the game couldn't possibly work that way.<br /><br />Think on it for a second: how many players would want to be Gambit, or the Hulk, or the Punisher? If even just two people, then there's a problem with identity. Even if you were to get around the problem with a suffix, i.e., Punisher213, then the brand has been diluted, and it no longer means anything. So, how would this MMO have worked?<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/22/marvel-universe-online-how-would-it-have-worked/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Marvel Universe Online: how would it have worked?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/22/marvel-universe-online-how-would-it-have-worked/">Marvel Universe Online: how would it have worked?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 22 Feb 2008 07:30:00 EST.
