While <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's</em></a> beta test weekends thus far have been small and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/bioware-confirms-no-swtor-beta-this-weekend/">intermittent</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware/">BioWare</a> hopes to make it up to anxious fans <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20111004">by kicking off a much larger beta event</a>. The studio posted that it is in the process of inviting "more players into testing than [it's] ever invited before in a single weekend" over the course of today in preparation for this weekend's test.<br />
<br />
This next beta weekend will take place from October 7th through the 11th and is separate from the ongoing closed beta. BioWare also asserts that players who aren't accepted into this test will have future opportunities in the additional beta test weekends before the launch.<br />
<br />
<em>SWTOR</em> beta test invitations will come straight to players' emails and can be verified by logging into your account to see whether the beta client is available for download.<br />

<em>Captain's Log, Stardate 65093.1</em><em>...</em><br />
<br />
Hello, computer (and players)! In the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online/" target="_blank"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> universe, fleets are the foundation that ensures ones' in-game (and even out-of-game) experience is one that is active, social, and fulfilling. Whether you enjoy PvP, Special Task Forces, role play, or a combo of all the above, there should be a fleet out there for you to call home. But, what do you do if you can not find one that suits your warp core? Well, you start your own! That's right! Gather your friends (or make new ones), visit the fleet contact on Earth Space Dock, think up a clever name, and click that "create" button.<br />
<br />
Okay, okay -- I make it sound a lot easier than it actually is. Building a fleet takes a lot of work, time and dedication, but is possible with the right spirit at the helm. Then, just when you have it built, successfully running it becomes an even bigger challenge. During this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/captains-log/" target="_blank">Captain's Log</a>, I am going to take you on a tour of duty as we explore a possible structuring to your future fleet. Based off of one of the most successful fleets in-game, <a href="http://stonewallfleet.com/" target="_blank">Stonewall Fleet</a>, which has had over 1,400 members sign-up for membership, let's take a look at the roles they have in place to make it all happen.<br />
<br />
<em>Ensign, warp 10! Let's help our readers create the perfect structure to their fleet...</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/captains-log-building-a-successful-fleet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Captain's Log: Building a successful fleet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/captains-log-building-a-successful-fleet/">Captain's Log: Building a successful fleet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 13:00:00 EST. Things are ramping up in <a href="http://www.gamersfirst.com/apb/"><em>APB</em></a>-land, and it's not just because <a href="http://www.gamersfirst.com/">GamersFirst</a> has released its second dev blog of the week (as opposed to its traditional one-entry-per-week modus operandi over the past few months).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bjorn-book-larsson">Bjorn Book-Larsson</a> writes that another 2500 souls have been admitted into the ongoing closed beta test, and thus far the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamersfirst">GamersFirst</a> hardware is holding its own under the new player onslaught. The beta test was approaching 1000 concurrent users as of Thursday afternoon, and though a few server restarts were required, the engineers have since nailed down a stable configuration that seems to be lag-free (aside from distance-related issues).<br />
<br />
Book-Larsson says that if all goes as planned, Friday evening will see another batch of invites, so keep an eye on your inboxes if you're itching to get back to San Paro. While you're waiting, check out our exclusive <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/all-points-bulletin"><em>APB Reloaded</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-2011">GDC</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/gdc-2011-gamersfirst-on-resurrecting-san-paro-with-apb-reloaded/">coverage</a> or the recently released <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoNKotR3JIk">Vehicle Showcase video here</a> or behind the cut.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/gamersfirst-looking-to-expanding-apb-reloaded-closed-beta/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GamersFirst looking to expand APB Reloaded closed beta</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/gamersfirst-looking-to-expanding-apb-reloaded-closed-beta/">GamersFirst looking to expand APB Reloaded closed beta</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 17:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.gamersfirst.com/apb/"><em>APB Reloaded</em></a> blog has updated and there's good news in store for anxious fans looking to dive back into the city of San Paro. The initial wave of beta invites has officially been sent, and <a href="http://www.gamersfirst.com/">GamersFirst's</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bjorn-book-larsson">Bjorn Book-Larsson</a> informs us that the first batch was targeted at American players (primarily on the west coast) who met certain minimum requirements.<br />
<br />
Book-Larsson also notes a memory allocation issue that cropped up after the influx of players (approximately 2500 in this wave), but says that as long as the system remains reasonably stable, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamersfirst">GamersFirst</a> will begin inviting new players on a daily basis.<br />
<br />
"<em>The current plan is to slowly increase the CCU count (simultaneously connected players) from a few hundred (what it is now) to just over 2,000 simultaneous players this week -- which means close to 20,000 actual invitees</em>," Book-Larsson says.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/02/apb-reloaded-welcomes-first-2500-beta-testers/">APB Reloaded welcomes first 2500 beta testers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 02 Mar 2011 11:30:00 EST. When Christmas comes and you want to find the very best present, let your friends and family go to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>WAR</em></a> with you! <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> has just thrown open the gates to its own <a href="http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=543">recruit-a-friend program</a>, letting <a href="https://accounts.eamythic.com/">current subscribers</a> send out free 14 day trials to anyone they wish. The only catch to the program is that you get a limited number of invites. Initially you get three for being a subscriber and then you receive one new invite each month to a maximum of six.<br /><br />If your buddy converts his trial account to a full account by buying the game, then you get the standard 30 days free. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic/">Mythic</a>'s notice has already promised more rewards for recruiting in the future though, so it seems the program will expand beyond the scope of free game time. Although, honestly, none of us are arguing against free game time. In addition to a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/stargate-worlds-will-be-on-display-at-leipzig-train-station/">previously reported train station appearance</a>, and in defiance of all common sense in the midst of a global gas crisis and panic about carbon emissions, <a href="http://cheyenneme.com">Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment</a>/<a href="http://www.firesky.com">FireSky</a> promoted <a href="http://www.stargateworlds.com"><em>Stargate Worlds</em></a> at the <a href="http://www.gc-germany.com/index.php?lang=2">Games Convention in Leipzig</a> by meeting the press in a constantly-moving caravan of pimped-out, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummer">gas-guzzling Hummers.</a><br /><br />In one of those Hummers, <a href="http://www.tentonhammer.com">Ten Ton Hammer</a>'s John Hoskin recorded a <a href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/41491">video interview</a> with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/stargate-worlds"><em>Stargate Worlds</em></a> studio head Dan Elggren. Hoskin asked Elggren about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cheyenne-mountain-entertainment">CME</a>/<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/firesky">FireSky</a>'s beta plans. Elggren said that the friends and family beta test has been going on for a while (it was when we <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/massively-visits-stargate-worlds/">visited the studio</a> back in July, even) but that invites for "gameplay testing" will be going out to the public in "early September/October." Not quite the summer date we were promised, but we're still impressed at how quickly it's coming up.<br /><br />Hopefully that will cheer up <em>Stargate</em> fans who are depressed over the recent news of <a href="http://www.aoltv.com/2008/08/21/stargate-atlantis-canceled-kind-of/"><em>Stargate Atlantis</em>' imminent cancellation.</a> Yet another spin-off -- called <em>Stargate Universe</em> -- <a href="http://www.aoltv.com/2008/08/22/stargate-universe-gets-a-green-light/">will premiere in 2009</a>, though.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/28/stargate-worlds-beta-invites-coming-in-early-september-october/">Stargate Worlds beta invites coming in "early September/October"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 28 Aug 2008 12:00:00 EST. (Four, if you count the old chestnut about how '<a href="http://www.websnark.com/archives/2005/01/the_pussificati.html">the Fifth Column were taken out of the game because of the European release</a>', which doesn't seem to crop up any more since <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cox">Issue 12</a>, for some reason.) In short, these are:<br /><br />
<ul>
    <li>Why does everyone hate PLers, and what is so bad about power leveling anyway</li>
    <li>Defenders aren't Healers, and if you say they are, you are a noob (and should go back to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wow"><em>WoW</em></a>)</li>
    <li>Why do people send blind invites, I hate it (or alternatively, 'why do people get so worked up about blind invites, it's no big deal.')</li>
