Before anyone asks in the comments section: Yes, <a href="http://www.istaria.com/"><em>Istaria</em></a> is still around. I've noticed that many players seem to think if something is out of their sight, it's out of every other player's mind too, but the truth is that there are many, many smallish and indie MMOs in existence that not only continue to do well but offer unique gameplay for anyone who might be interested. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Istaria/"><em>Istaria</em></a> is even still referred to as <em>Horizons</em> by many, even though that change was made a long, long time ago. Despite all of the outdated opinions and its status as an "older" game, interesting things are happening in the world of <em>Istaria</em>.<br />

	<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> is gonna get some mighty fine updates with the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/swtor-patch-1-3-bringing-group-finder-legacy-perks/">onset of patch 1.3</a>. Game Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/daniel-erickson">Daniel Erickson</a> had a chat with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pc-gamer">PC Gamer</a> to shed some light on the changes in the upcoming patch.<br />
	<br />
	Players in <em>SWTOR </em>don't like standing still. As Erickson says: "You can craft on the move, run [<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/warzones">war zones</a>] from anywhere, and basically never slow down -- except when looking for a group." To put an end to that difficulty, 1.3 will include a LFG interface that players can use to find a pick-up group to run with (except for Hard Mode Operations, which aren't really designed for uncoordinated PUGs). The tool won't work cross-server, but that's because the dev team is looking to move to servers with a much, much higher population cap in the near future.<br />
	<br />
	The patch will add new perks to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/legacy">legacy system</a>, most of which are aimed at customizing the way players level their alts. With a high enough legacy and enough credits, players could use XP perks to skip side quests altogether, although Erickson points out that that there are perks for Bonus Series quests that may tempt players to visit planets they've previously left alone.<br />
	<br />
	The last bundle of tidings of great joy for the patch is directed at gear. There's a fine balance between freedom of dress and the importance of visual distinction, and <em>SWTOR </em>aims to find it by allowing "social gear" to be worn anywhere. Additionally, "almost every single item in the game" will get customization options thanks to augment slots. <a href="http://www.jagex.com/">Jagex</a>, developer of the ever-popular browser-based game <a href="http://www.runescape.com/"><em>RuneScape</em></a>, is known for its rapid development schedule. Heck, I fully expect that this article will be outdated by the time I finish its rough draft. Players of the Jagex flagship MMO can log in to find new items, places to explore, and quests to do almost weekly. I tend to poke my nose into the game several times a week, so I know that a more casual player has endless amounts of content to run through. I might level up my construction skill and then switch to something completely different. I just recently spent an afternoon playing with just the <a href="http://services.runescape.com/m=news/bonfires">new bonfire skill</a>.<br />

Of course, those pesky developers are at it again: giving me <em>more</em> content to go through even though my highest skills hover around only the level 40 mark. This time it's the <a href="http://services.runescape.com/m=news/the-runespan">Runespan</a>, a brand-new area that helps players level runecrafting by offering them a one-stop shop that is more casual and non-competitive than the normal runecraft experience.<br />

Two of the biggest cornerstones of <a href="http://www.gamersfirst.com/fallenearth/"><em>Fallen Earth</em></a> have always been crafting and PvP, and its these cornerstones that GamersFirst is enriching come patch 2.4. The patch, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/17/fallen-earth-2-4-patch-to-feature-territory-control-automated-h/">called Global Territory Control</a>, is taking these elements and firing them up in ways that any PvPer or crafter should find exciting.<br />

The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/22/the-anvil-of-crom-age-of-conan-year-three-retrospective/">last time</a> I did an anniversary retrospective for <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em></a>, we had a recent expansion, some new dungeon content, and several class revamps fresh on our minds. This past year, the major development was, of course, the switch to a freemium business model, followed closely by the game's first adventure pack.<br />

Recently, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/KingsIsle-entertainment/">KingsIsle</a> announced that the world of the Spiral was going to branch out into the high seas in the studio's newest MMO, <a href="http://pirate101.com"><em>Pirate101</em></a>. There are many things about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Pirate101/"><em>Pirate101</em></a> that will feel familiar to <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Wizard101/">Wizard101</a></em> fans, but the game has several features that definitely make it stand apart as more than just a sequel. Combat is not card-based; it's more like a tactical board game. Companions, rather than trading cards, play a key role in the pirate arsenal, and of course, players will be traveling (and fighting!) on their very own pirate ships.<br />

Would-be citizens of <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/neverwinter">Neverwinter</a></em> are certainly waiting anxiously for <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/cryptic-studios">Cryptic Studios'</a> upcoming venture into the Jewel of the North, which <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/07/pax-east-2012-neverwinter-discussion-and-impressions/">we received favorably at PAX East</a> last month. Well, unfortunately we're going to have to wait a bit longer, but in the mean time, MMORPG.com has a new interview with <em>Neverwinter</em>'s Lead Producer, <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/andy-velasquez">Andy Velasquez</a>, to shine some light on the most civilized city in Faerun.<br />
<br />
Velasquez answers questions on a number of topics, including the decision to use 4th edition rules, the amount of content that will be available at launch, and the difference between a raid and a Dungeon Delve. The death of the subscription model has been greatly exaggerated, according to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp">CCP</a>. This view isn't terribly surprising if you consider the fact that the company's fortunes ebb and flow with sub-based <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a>. What is somewhat surprising is the frankness with which <em>EVE</em> producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jon-lander">Jon Lander</a> talks about the free-to-play mania that's gripped western dev studios in recent years.<br />
<br />
"You look at the companies who did go free-to-play. They retrofitted it on, and that was because their games were failing. They didn't care about the tiny nugget of players who were still playing, because they knew they would get a huge number of other players and it would be more profitable," Lander told <a href="http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/05/03/ccp-on-the-death-of-subscription-mmos-its-simply-not-the-case/">PC Gamer</a>, before going on to explain how such a retrofit would kill <em>EVE's</em> essence.<br />
<br />
Overall quality and the desire for long-term play also factor into a title's business model, Lander says. "If you have a really good game [...] and people want to spend a long time playing it, not like a month or two but like <em>EVE</em> players for years at a time, they're prepared to pay a subscription fee for a good quality gaming experience."<br />
<br />
He also mentions <em>EVE's</em> PLEX system, which allows for real-world money to be injected into the <em>EVE</em> economy sans shady third-party brokers. And of course, CCP is experimenting with free-to-play via its new <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dust-514"><em>DUST 514</em></a> shooter, which Lander says was built from the ground up for the new business model. It's not necessarily the future, though. "People say the subscription MMO is dead. I fundamentally disagree with that. It's simply not the case," he says. <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/PlanetSide-2/">PlanetSide 2</a></em> has but one real game it must live up to, but if you consider the unique elements that its predecessor brought to the table, that's still a tall order. <a href="http://www.gamebreaker.tv/mmorpg/prepare-to-fire/">A recent interview with the game's creative director</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Higby/">Matt Higby</a>, highlights the ways that the game is being designed to fulfill the requirements of an engaging MMO <em>and</em> an engaging FPS. That means giving characters plenty of progression without locking out new players who just want to shoot things.<br />
<br />
The game's overall progression path is meant to be one of options, not straight power. That's the case for classes as well as advancement; Heavy Assault characters will play distinctly from other classes, but they'll have a variety of unique abilities that players can choose among. The interview also sheds more light on what players can expect from the game's overarching persistent elements, which set the game and its factions apart from standard FPS fare. This week brings to an end my series of interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic-Studios/">Cryptic Studios</a> representatives. We conclude with the second half of my interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Christine-Thompson/">Christine Thompson</a>, lead writer for <em><a href="http://startrekonline.com">Star Trek Online</a></em>.<br />

Thompson confirmed that she essentially writes everything in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online">STO</a></em>. She admits that she gets some help, sometimes from developers who prefer to write their own work, but she says she writes 90% of everything in the game.<br />
<br />
The conversation picked back up with a focus on The Foundry, the user-generated content tool available to players in <em>STO</em>. I asked her if she had any direct advice for authors who use the Foundry to create missions and maps and social zones in the game. She said, "Authors "shouldn't be afraid to tell the stories they want to tell. That's one of the joys of The Foundry. And they should also know not every story is going to work for everybody. Some things people will love, and some things people won't. Use Of Bajor for example. I really enjoyed that episode. We took a chance and did something completely different with that episode, and I <em>liked </em>telling a Bajoran story. Today <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Captains-Log/">Captain's Log</a> continues with the first of two installments of my interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Christine-Thompson">Christine Thompson</a>, <em><a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/">Star Trek Online's</a></em> lead writer at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic-Studios/">Cryptic Studios</a>!<br />

I began the discussion by asking Thompson about her background as a writer and journalist before she began working for Cryptic. She stated that she had held positions as a reporter, editor, page designer, and wire editor for 13 years, after which she found herself in a position of "either having to move up into management or having to find something else to do."<br />
<br />
Yet she spent a lot of her personal time playing MMOs, reading comic books and fantasy novels, and watching Star Trek. Since she had to find a new career anyway, she thought, "Why not find a career I actually enjoy?" 	<em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/guild-wars-2">Guild Wars 2</a></em> fans are surely champing at the bit to get their hands on the game next week in the game's first public beta weekend, but you know what's cooler than taking part in <em>GW2</em>'s beta weekends? Doing so at <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/arenanet">ArenaNet's</a> offices in Seattle, which is exactly what the folks at Eurogamer got to do just recently.<br />

	Not only did they get the opportunity to sit down and play the <em>Guild Wars 2</em> beta with the team, but they also got the chance to chat with many of the key figures behind it all. Virtually every department of development is represented in the lengthy article, which includes interviews with head honcho Mike O'Brien, QA manager Mike Zadorojny, art director Daniel Dociu, lead content designer Colin Johanson, and many, many more. 	Next in this series of interviews conducted on my visit to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic-Studios/">Cryptic Studios</a> in Los Gatos, California, last month is a chat with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Daniel-Stahl/">Daniel Stahl</a>, Executive Producer of <em><a href="http://startrekonline.com">Star Trek Online</a></em>.</div>

I first asked Stahl to give me an overview of his responsibilities as Executive Producer, as there are many people who are either new to <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/STO/">STO</a></em> (or even to gaming overall) who may not have a clear understanding of his role entails.<br />
<br />
He stated his job is "similar to making movies." He has several direct reports, the first being the software person or the person responsible for the team of people who actually create the code for the game. The second is the Content Lead, who is responsible for new missions, new features, and anything to with player experience. There's been a big buzz for the latest update to <a href="http://champions-online.com"><em>Champions Online</em></a>. The entire game is undergoing a significant overhaul for the newest expansion, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/On-Alert/">On Alert</a>, which has <a href="http://www.champions-online.com/On_Alert">just gone live today</a>. The developers are adding in talent trees for player heroes as well as a dramatic overhaul of the way equipment works.<br />

Much like its predecessor, <a href="http://www.worldofwarplanes.com"><em>World of Warplanes</em></a> is not a game with an ambiguous title. This is a game about planes, and not the sort that flies cargo from one point on the globe to another. If flying around and getting into aerial dogfights sounds like an unappealing concept to you, well, you can pretty much just exit stage left when you hear the name.<br />
<br />
But the lack of subtlety in the name, however noteworthy, doesn't really say much about the game itself. Is it fun to play? Does it succeed in what it sets out to do? Really, is it just <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com"><em>World of Tanks</em></a> up in the air? I can't speak to the last one, but I can say that it definitely delivers on its stated design goals. Information is like gold 'round these parts, and I've been out prospecting, sifting, and searching in the hopes of at least finding a few flakes if not hitting pay dirt. But even with <em><a href="http://na.aiononline.com/">Aion</a> </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Ascension/">Ascension</a> just around the corner, finding many nuggets of information on the new BlackCloud Marketplace hasn't panned out. Until now. Eureka!<br />

Welcome to the Massively Gold Rush. OK, so maybe a "rush" is a bit of an overstatement, but I have discovered a few golden nuggets about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion"><em>Aion's</em></a> renovated cash shop and impending <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/20/wings-over-atreia-ode-to-3-0/">3.0</a> expansion. I had the chance to catch up with Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/adam-christensen/">Adam Christensen</a> and learn a bit more about what Daevas will find in the BlackCloud Marketplace as well as get some details about various new upcoming features like housing, mounts, and the level 60 Daevanion armor.<br />

Last week I received a bit of feedback regarding the state of Rivera's desk. I withheld taking pictures of the interior of the office space for fear of inadvertently capturing information that I wasn't free to share. Many moons ago when the air just started to cool from summer's heat (aka, last September), <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/some-assembly-required/">Some Assembly Required</a> had the opportunity to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/some-assembly-required-diving-into-details-of-origins-of-malu/">talk shop</a> with a new outfit that is developing a promising new sandbox MMORPG, <a href="http://www.originsmmo.com/"><em>Origins of </em></a><a href="http://www.originsmmo.com/"><em>Malu</em></a>. And you know me: Sandbox is the magic word! As skeptical as I knew I should be, I still came away from that interview with renewed hope that a game with some of the features for player-generated content could exist again.<br />
<br />
Back then, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/burning-dog-media">Burning Dog Media</a> made the bold statement that it would absolutely release its flagship game in 2012, with a target of early 2012 to boot. But as the first quarter of the year quickly drew to a close with scant information available, it became pretty clear the game is still a ways off. In the realm of games, no news is not necessarily good news... and we definitely hit a drought in news.<br />

With the recent announcement from <a href="http://www.soe.com/">Sony Online Entertainment</a> that <a href="http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/"><em>Vanguard: Saga of Heroes</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/21/vanguard-going-free-to-play-this-summer-beefs-up-dev-team/">will be going free-to-play sometime this summer</a>, questions immediately began to surface. How will it effect current players? Will it be anything like the other free-to-play titles that SOE runs? Well, we were as curious as anyone else, so we fired off a few questions to SOE in the hopes of snagging some more insight into the transformation.<br />

	<em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/anarchy-online">Anarchy Online</a></em> players have been anxiously awaiting the game's upcoming graphics engine upgrade for some time now, and new details are slowly but surely beginning to drip down the pipeline. The latest of these new bits of information is an interview with Game Director <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/fia-tjernberg">Fia Tjernberg</a> that also includes a new preview video showing off "dynamic grass, shadow, water, and god-rays" in the new engine.<br />
	<br />
	The interview itself only touches very briefly on the subject of the new engine itself, however, and in fact focuses more on the history of <em>Anarchy Online</em> as well as the direction that the team plans to take the game in the future. Tjernberg reveals that the team is "working towards a massive overhaul of [the game's] systems mechanics and content interaction," as well as "releasing a new starting area - nay strike that - a completely new starting experience," which should give new players and veterans alike plenty to look forward to in the future. The pair also highlight changes to underdeveloped zones, pet battles, repurposed classic dungeons, phased farms (actual farms!), and solutions to the faction grind problem. Most interestingly, they tell Morgan that Pandaren came first... and the Asian motif followed. After all, they joke, it just wouldn't have made sense to put Pandaren in Aztec ruins.<br />

	Gamers got their first look at the Kingdoms of Amalur universe in <em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em> earlier this year, but we here at Massively are still anxiously awaiting more details on <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/38-studios">38 Studios'</a> MMO branch of the setting, <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/project-copernicus">Project Copernicus</a></em>. Thankfully, it looks like we won't have to wait too much longer.<br />
	<br />
	In an interview with START, comic artist extraordinaire <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/todd-mcfarlane">Todd McFarlane</a>, who is providing art design for <em>Copernicus, </em>nonchalantly dropped news that the studio is aiming to release <em>Project Copernicus</em> "later in the year." He doesn't expound any further on when exactly we can expect to get our hands on the game, but with any luck we'll be getting some more details before long, so stay tuned folks. Oh, and the full interview is embedded past the cut in case you'd like to watch the full thing. The relevant quote hits at about the 11:50 mark, but the full interview is definitely worth a watch.<br />

When I was 12 years old, my days mainly consisted of one thing: playing games on my <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64">Commodore 64</a>. I would set my alarm early to get some gaming in before school, think about the games all day during school, then come home and play as much as I could before my parents made me stop and do homework or chores. Aside from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Box">TSR's Gold Box series</a>, the two games that molded my childhood and my love for gaming were <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasteland_%28video_game%29"><em>Wasteland</em></a> and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bard%27s_Tale_%281985_video_game%29">The Bard's Tale</a></em>. Both of these games were made by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interplay_Productions">Interplay Productions</a>, a company founded by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Fargo">Brian Fargo</a> in 1983.<br />
<br />
Fargo has always been an iconic figure to me. I <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/14/choose-my-adventure-meet-fahryn-brygo">regularly name my MMO characters</a> Faran Brygo (a name he used for an NPC in the original <em>Wasteland</em>). I'm certainly not alone in my love for <em>Wasteland</em> (which I have labeled for years as my all-time-favorite RPG), but I think it's safe to say that many gamers who enjoyed <em>Wasteland</em> always wondered why there was no sequel. <em>Fallout 1</em> and <em>2</em> were "spiritual successors" to the game, but for copyright reasons, they were never actually labeled as true sequels. Fargo tried to make a true sequel for 20 years but was always met with brick walls from publishers who weren't interested in resurrecting such an old game.<br />
<br />
Enter Kickstarter. After the wild success of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/13/double-fine-adventure-kickstarter-concludes-with-3-335-265-amas/">Tim Schafer's Double Fine crowdfunding campaign</a>, Fargo got the idea to try it out for himself. The timing was right with the current nostalgic gaming scene, the popularity of the post-apocalyptic genre, and the fact that most of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Interplay/">Interplay</a>'s original fans are now in a position of making a tad more income than allowance money from childhood chores.<br />

At <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/GDC-2012/">GDC</a> last week, Massively had a chance to see some of the action and talk to the team about its plans for beta and launch. At <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/GDC-2012/">GDC</a>, gPotato reps showed off not one but four titles, two of which are brand-new and on their way to beta. For <a href="http://allods.gpotato.com/"><em>Allods</em></a> and <a href="http://aika.gpotato.com"><em>Aika</em></a> fans, there was plenty of news about the new game updates. Meanwhile, gPotato put on demos for <a href="http://sevencore.gpotato.com"><em>Sevencore</em></a> and <a href="http://eternalblade.gpotato.com"><em>Eternal Blade</em></a>, which are both in production and are being prepped for release sometime later this year. As the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> guild leaders lined up to get a taste of the Lost Island flashpoint, I was at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare</a> studios <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/13/massivelys-hands-on-with-star-wars-the-old-republic-update-1-2/">getting my hands dirty with deeper PvE and PvP content</a> as well as speaking with developers like Combat Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/georg-zoeller/">Georg Zoeller</a>, Lead Writer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/daniel-erickson/">Daniel Erickson</a>, Art Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jeff-dobson/">Jeff Dobson</a>, and Lead Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Emmanuel-Lusinchi/">Emmanuel Lusinchi</a>. However, the best part was at the end of the day when I was able to speak one-on-one with Creative Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/james-ohlen/">James Ohlen</a>.<br />

Ohlen touches nearly every aspect of the game's development. It was important to me to find out why this game is as popular as it is and what BioWare was going to do to retain its current playerbase. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/GDC-2012/">GDC</a> literally has a little of everything, from indie developers to major studios, from free-to-play games to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-firing-line/">shooters</a> to arena battles to retro to family... there really is something for everyone. As a massive fan of sandboxes myself, I was pleased to get to spend so much time with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/above-and-beyond-technologies/">Above and Beyond Technologies</a>' lead dev and co-owner <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Josh-Halls/">Josh Halls</a> and artist <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Kevin-Grove/">Kevin Grove</a> as they demonstrated some of the features in their upcoming title, <a href="http://www.therepopulation.com/"><em>The Repopulation</em></a>. (And I would have even spent longer if I could have!)<br />

While I had a monopoly on the team's attention, I had the chance to see some of the customization available to characters, both in appearance and gear, as well as get the lowdown on the world building element. We actually walked through the building of a nation, a feature that will make many a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/sandbox/">sandbox</a> fan giddy! Although Josh was quick to point out that only a few items were available at this point in development, there was certainly enough to get a feel for the system. The Game is coming.<br />

It had to be said. And for fans of <a href="http://georgerrmartin.com/">George R.R. Martin's</a> epic fantasy series <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire">A Song of Ice and Fire</a>, that one little phrase elicits some powerful and mixed emotions: excitement (to actually wander about Westeros) and dread (will it actually <em>be</em> Westeros?). There was even a collective cringe among some Massively staff when the announcement was made that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/a-game-of-thrones">Game of Thrones</a> was becoming an MMORPG. Could such a complex world translate well into the virtual realm? It made the transition to television pretty well in HBO's series, but a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/free-to-play/">free-to-play</a> browser-based MMO is a whole other beast.<br />

We're pleased to say that fans of the books and the series can breathe a little easier and even look forward to the upcoming title becuse it's going to be gritty, it's going to be gory, and power will shift like the winds across the Dothraki Sea. Peters even goes on to state that the devs "consider it to be one of the primary goals of <em>Guild Wars 2</em> competitive PvP to make it into an eSport." Move on to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/neocron/"><em>Neocron</em></a> already!" Oh, be patient my lovelies. I know that the whole <em>EQMac</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/14/the-game-archaeologist-mourns-the-end-of-eqmac/">termination</a>/<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/21/the-game-archaeologist-chats-with-john-smedley-about-eqmacs-sal/">salvation</a> thing is so yesterday's news, particularly with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/soe/">SOE</a> embroiled <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/25/the-tattered-notebook-breaking-up-the-family/">in a completely different community fiasco</a> last week, but I had one last thing to share with you.<br />

You see, a month ago when I heard that <em>EQMac </em>was going to be shut down, I put out some feelers for any players who might want to share their side of the story. Apparently, this small community is downright fanatical about this game and deluged my inbox with stories and pleas. While it seems like the crisis has passed for these players, I still want to share some of these testimonies with you because that's what this column is about.<br />
