With only a few days left until release, <a href="http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a> has lifted the shroud surrounding the third of the starting city-states for new characters. Gridania, nestled in the Black Shroud, is a city built into the very structure of the wood around it, filled with reverence for the spirits and creatures that dwell in the environment. The newest pictures have been put together in a gallery showing off the environment of the city -- as well as a hint of the Garlean Empire.<br />
<br />
A city of warm earth tones and expansive wooden buildings, Gridania manages to carry its own distinct feel from its sister cities, especially with the stained-glass architecture that dominates the adventurer's guild. While the preview images lack the callbacks that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/final-fantasy-xiv-assets-released-for-the-city-state-of-uldah/">the recent Ul'dah reveal</a> carried, they still show off an environment that is both engaging and alien. Take a look at the full gallery, and keep your eyes open to see if <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XIV/"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a> has any more secrets to reveal prior to next week's launch.<br />

The release date for <a href="http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a> is just under a week away, but <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Square-Enix/">Square-Enix</a> still has plenty to show off for the game and a huge amount of material left unseen. The company has just released a large batch of screenshots of the city-state of Ul'dah, centered in an arid desert as one of the three starting locations for new characters. Very distinct from both of the other starting cities, Ul'dah evokes much of the middle eastern imagery found in <a href="http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Al_Zahbi">Al Zahbi</a> from <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a>.<br />
<br />
A city known for lavish displays, gambling, and gladiatorial contests, Ul'dah also has no shortage of fine architecture or detailed cityscapes. The full set of screenshots can be found in our gallery just below, which also contains several shots of what appear to be automatons of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XI/"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> fame, as well as few pictures of the beastmen known as Amalj'aa. If you're interested in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XIV/"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a>, it's well worth a browse through the city's scenic locales.<br />

Ever since the recent <a href="http://www.ddo.com"><em>DDO Unlimited</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/16/ddo-state-of-the-game-released/">"State of the Game" last week</a> the fourth update really can't come soon enough. Lucky for us, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Turbine/">Turbine</a> has released some more screens that showcase some new content, which includes lots of fantasy sword swinging and some particularly nasty looking baddies to fight, as well. Now that we think on it, perhaps the images aren't as lucky as we thought, because now we just want patch day to be today.<br />
<br />
Well, at least April -- the scheduled month for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ddo-update-4">Update 4</a> -- is just around the corner. And if that's not good enough for you, we'll be demoing the update this Friday during <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-east">PAX East</a>. So expect to find heaps of new images and information in short order. Until then, please enjoy the new <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dungeons-and-dragons-online"><em>DDO Unlimited</em></a> update 4 gallery.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ddo-unlimited-update-4-0/">DDO Unlimited Update 4</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ddo-unlimited-update-4-0/#2828739"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/03/01bloodtidefortressscreenshot-1269439781_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ddo-unlimited-update-4-0/#2828740"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/03/02bloodtidefortressscreenshot-1269439784_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ddo-unlimited-update-4-0/#2828742"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/03/03bloodtidefortressscreenshot-1269439786_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ddo-unlimited-update-4-0/#2828743"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/03/05bloodtidefortressscreenshot-1269439789_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ddo-unlimited-update-4-0/#2828744"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/03/10bloodtidefortressscreenshot-1269439790_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/24/new-screens-for-ddo-unlimited-update-4/">New screens for DDO Unlimited Update 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 24 Mar 2010 18:00:00 EST. Did we have a good time at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamex-2009">this year's GameX</a> in Philadelphia? Well, if you can't tell by all of our coverage, we certainly did. But there was certainly more to the expo than just interviewing people and checking out <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> and <a href="http://www.globalagendagame.com"><em>Global Agenda</em></a> running on the show floor! There were, gasp, other games there!<br />
<br />
We got many neat photos of the various things on the show floor, from robots to steampunk to Egyptian statues, and we collected them all in one gallery for you guys to ogle. If you were interested in <em><a href="http://www.sega.com/platinumgames/bayonetta/">Bayonetta</a></em> or <em><a href="http://www.dantesinferno.com/home.action">Dante's Inferno</a></em>, then also look no further, as we got some pictures of those booths in action as well.<br />
<br />
So enjoy the photos as tomorrow we wrap up our coverage of <a href="http://www.gamexpo.us">GameX 2009</a>. Hope you enjoyed reading/watching it as much as we enjoyed writing/recording it!<br />

Romulan and Klingon love anyone? That's what you'll find in our five exclusive <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> screens, one of which you can see above in all its sleek sexy glory.<br />
<br />
If space isn't your thing -- although if that's the case, you may want to reconsider your interest in space MMOs -- <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic</a> is showing off <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2412699/full/">this view of a tropical environment</a> that's making us long for warmer weather. Although, we're much more interested in shots that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2412701/full/">feature the glory of the Klingon Empire</a>. Well, okay maybe that last one wasn't exactly glorious insomuch that nobody was being blown up. Let's just pretend that all the rubble was the remains of a powerful enemy brought to its knees... yeah.<br />
<br />
Check out all the new images in the gallery below. We've got five new screens from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic">Cryptic Studio's</a> upcoming <em><a href="http://www.startrekonline.com">Star Trek Online</a></em> to share with you today. Of particular note is the above shot of a Borg drone about to vaporize someone or something into stardust. However, there are also plenty of tantalizing new space images in this batch. For instance, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/star-trek-online-gallery/2336326/full/">this aft shot</a> of what appears to be a Prometheus variant has an interesting hull design.<br /><br />This will be a weekly thing up until the launch of <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Trek-Online/">Star Trek Online</a></em>, so keep your eyes peeled every Monday for a glimpse at something new to whet your Trek appetite. Hopefully we'll be able to help sate it, but if nothing else, at least there'll be pretty space ships to ogle on a regular basis.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/">Star Trek Online Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451212"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#2451211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/11/stobridge1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-gallery/#1480580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/sto_screen_032709_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/05/take-a-look-at-star-trek-onlines-borg-and-more/">Take a look at Star Trek Online's Borg and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 05 Oct 2009 09:00:00 EST. <div align="left">There's been a dearth of <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> news or information these past few weeks. We've been upset about it. <a href="http://crypticstudios.com/">Cryptic</a> just broke radio science at long last, though: four <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> wallpapers have been posted <a href="http://startrekonline.com/wallpapers">at the game site.</a> We've got all of 'em <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-wallpaper-gallery/">here</a> for you to see, but head over to the official gallery for the full breadth of resolution choices.</div>
<div align="left"><br /><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/wallpaper-03_1024_thumbnail.jpg">One</a> of them is a rare in-game glimpse at a planet surface. It looks gorgeous, although we're suddenly worried about the minimum system requirements. Hopefully those nice lighting and shadow effects will scale back for low-end desktops and notebooks.<br /></div>

The official <a href="http://www.stargateworlds.com"><em>Stargate Worlds</em></a> website has been updated in <a href="http://community.stargateworlds.com/news/4/1199/">two</a> <a href="http://community.stargateworlds.com/news/4/1208/">waves</a> with nine new wallpapers, most of which show in-game locales and combat engagements. You can go <a href="http://community.stargateworlds.com/gallery/9/">look at them at the official site</a>, or you can <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/stargate-worlds-wallpaper-gallery/">grab them right here instead!</a> We're awesome like that.<br /><br />Most of the wallpapers depict a city, but we're apparently not quite <a href="http://www.scifi.com/stargate/"><em>Stargate SG-1</em></a> literate enough to identify it. There are a couple images of combat (including one of someone getting torched by a flamethrower; that's kinda cool), one shot of a Jaffa in the previously mentioned city (pictured above), and one montage of weapon concept art.<br /><br />Despite a few <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/stargate-worlds-studio-faces-cash-flow-issues/">cash flow problems</a> at the studio, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/stargate-worlds"><em>Stargate Worlds</em></a>' closed beta test is either already underway or <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/12/stargate-worlds-beta-just-a-few-weeks-away/">imminent</a>, depending on who you ask. So if you like these images, <a href="https://register.stargateworlds.com/Registration/">you might as well go sign up.</a><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/stargate-worlds-wallpaper-gallery/">Stargate Worlds Wallpaper Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/stargate-worlds-wallpaper-gallery/#1061096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/a_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/stargate-worlds-wallpaper-gallery/#1061098"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/b_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/stargate-worlds-wallpaper-gallery/#1061099"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/c_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/stargate-worlds-wallpaper-gallery/#1061100"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/d_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/stargate-worlds-wallpaper-gallery/#1061101"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/09/e_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/28/new-stargate-worlds-wallpapers-feature-in-game-imagery/">New Stargate Worlds wallpapers feature in-game imagery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 28 Sep 2008 15:00:00 EST. <div align="left"><a href="http://www.funcom.com">Funcom</a> announced a screenshot contest for <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> players a while back. The submission period for the first round ended, and then there was a week of silence. Now <a href="http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&amp;template=content&amp;func_id=2583&amp;table=CONTENT">10 winners have been announced.</a> Most of them are kind of "meh," but a few stand out as being particularly pretty or amusing, including <a href="http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll255/aoc-aegis/Dacken_picture022.png">the above</a> -- an image of someone falling a long, long way.<br /><br />On the prettier side, there's <a href="http://c.imagehost.org/0136/Jessia_picture027.jpg">an image by Auloki</a>, depicting a shadowy waterfall, and a <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v46/Langerck/Landscape11.jpg">nice view of Cimmeria</a> by StealthWalker. We've been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/29/the-daily-grind-whats-blizzards-next-big-thing/">speculating</a> about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a>'s next MMO for quite a long time. We're not just talking about the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/blizzard-com-teases-everyone-with-new-splash-page/">splash screen</a> from last week (which panned out to be <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3"><em>Diablo III</em></a>, a non-massive game). There have been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/blizzard-job-postings-show-progress-on-new-mmo/">job postings</a> on the company's website advertising various positions in a team working on a "Next-Gen MMO," which is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/07/first-official-confirmation-of-new-blizzard-mmo/">confirmed as a totally new title</a>, not an expansion for <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em>.</a> There have also been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/overheard-new-blizzard-project-codenamed-hydra/">murmurs</a> of a project codenamed "Hydra." We've always wondered -- are Hydra and the Next-Gen MMO one and the same?<br /><br />Now we have our answer: no. A reader of our sister site <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com">WoW Insider</a> <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/30/screenshot-confirms-that-diablo-is-hydra/">noticed a caption</a> that read "Hydra" on an <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss38-hires.jpg">image</a> (above) in <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/media/artwork.xml">Blizzard's <em>Diablo III</em> gallery.</a> Yep, <em>Diablo III</em> is Hydra. So if your sole interest is <em>Galaxy of Starcraft</em>, move along now. Hydra is not the savior you've been waiting for. And as WoW Insider noted, Blizzard is working on three different projects at once. That's a lot on its plate. Now that <em>Diablo III</em> has been announced, we're not expecting any news about the Next-Gen MMO anytime soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/30/screenshot-confirms-that-diablo-is-hydra/">WoW Insider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/blizzards-next-gen-mmo-is-not-the-project-codenamed-hydra/">Blizzard's "Next-Gen MMO" is not the project codenamed "Hydra"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 20:00:00 EST. MMOs don't have to all be about orcs, elves, and level-grinding. Case in point: Eskil Steenberg's <a href="http://quelsolaar.com/"><em>Love</em></a>, an art-house MMO that defies every conceivable expectation of what the genre is about. There's been a lot of talk lately about how there isn't enough innovation anymore. Quiet down, folks; <em>Love</em> is what you seek.<br /><br />When Steenberg <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/gdc08-when-love-came-to-town/">showed the game</a> to us at GDC this year, we were excited and alarmed at the same time -- excited because it was different and gorgeous, alarmed because we had to step outside of our comfort zone. The exploration-driven gameplay allows users to alter the painting-like world to match their dreams, but the world is all they'll be changing, as the game features no character creation or customization. Users don't even to pick their own names. <br /><br />So yes, it's challenging, but God, we miss being challenged. If only there were more projects like this for us to write about. For now, though, let's just swoon over <em>Love</em>. Steenberg <a href="http://news.quelsolaar.com/#post15">released three new images</a> from the game on his blog yesterday, and we have them here so you can soak in the impressionistic atmosphere. Be sure to check out our <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/gdc08-love-by-eskil-steenberg/">GDC gallery</a> as well.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/06/29/love-in-the-city/">Rock, Paper, Shotgun</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eskil-steenbergs-love/">Eskil Steenberg's Love</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eskil-steenbergs-love/#890496"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/06/love_city1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="City 1" title="City 1" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eskil-steenbergs-love/#890497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/06/love_city2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="City 2" title="City 2" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/eskil-steenbergs-love/#890498"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/06/love_city3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="City 3" title="City 3" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/29/new-screens-from-the-art-house-mmo-called-love/">New screens from the art-house MMO called Love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 29 Jun 2008 17:30:00 EST. <div align="left">Outer space and Egyptology; it was out of the marriage of these two things that the original <a href="http://imdb.com/title/tt0111282/"><em>Stargate</em> movie</a> was born. The images include a screenshot of the <a href="http://www.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/wiki/Ancients">Ancient</a> planet Agnos, concept art for a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/10/27/lets-talk-about-goauld-baby/">Goa'uld player character</a>, and screenshots and concept art for various buildings. It's not much, but we did say it was a "trickle," didn't we?<br /><br />It looks like Cheyenne is making pretty good use of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/unreal-engine">Unreal engine</a> but these screenshots don't seem very game-play-ish so it's tough to say for sure. The concept art is definitely worth a look, though.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/23/cheyenne-releases-11-new-stargate-worlds-images/">Cheyenne releases 11 new Stargate Worlds images</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 23 Nov 2007 18:00:00 EST.
