<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/04/making-it-as-an-mmo-blogger-an-interview-with-top-community-man/">Community managers</a> are the very definition of a paradox. They're some of the most public faces of the game, yet their role is often least understood. They serve many masters -- developers, players, marketing, press -- and are beholden to all of them at once. They're often on the blunt end of unrestrained love and unfathomable anger. No matter what they are, one thing is for sure: their job rocks.<br />
<br />
At least, according to a CM panel at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-east-2010/">PAX East</a> entitled "Community Managers: More than Forum Monkeys." In it, five CMs from various studios shared just what goes on with their job, what limits they deal with, and what are the highs and lows of working in the public limelight 24/7. <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/mrodberg">Meghan Rodberg</a> (<a href="http://www.turbine.com/">Turbine</a>), Aaron Trites (<a href="http://www.harmonixmusic.com/">Harmonix</a>), <a href="http://www.fragdolls.com/index.php/profile/category/rhoulette/">Morgan Romine</a> (<a href="http://dev.fragdolls.com/">Frag Dolls</a>), <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/jessfolsom">Jess Folsom</a> (<a href="http://www.bioware.com/">Bioware Austin</a>) and <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/brasse">Linda Carlson</a> (<a href="http://www.station.sony.com/">Sony Online Entertainment</a>) spent a candid hour with an audience pulling back some of the mystique and misconceptions of their positions as supposed monkey tamers.<br />
<br />
Hit the jump to read about the inner workings of these fabulous five community managers.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/29/pax-east-2010-community-manager-panel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX East 2010: Community manager panel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/29/pax-east-2010-community-manager-panel/">PAX East 2010: Community manager panel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 29 Mar 2010 17:00:00 EST. First <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/red-eagle-games-to-develop-the-wheel-of-time-mmo/">announced late last year</a>, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time"><em>Wheel of Time</em></a> MMO is not only in the works, but <a href="http://www.ea.com/language">Electronic Arts</a> has just confirmed their involvement in the distribution of the game. This includes more than just the MMO though, as <a href="http://redeaglegames.net/">Red Eagle Games</a> will be developing a whole line of products which will launch on "all major videogame platforms," including the PC , consoles, wireless devices and handhelds.<br /><br />This deal will allow EA to publish and distribute these games with other third-party developers such as <a href="http://www.valvesoftware.com/">Valve</a>, <a href="http://www.harmonixmusic.com/">Harmonix</a> and <a href="http://www.idsoftware.com/">id</a>. It will also provide "a blockbuster launch on the global stage" for Red Eagle to promote their games, according to EA Partners senior VP and general manager David DeMartini, and will hopefully help in funding the product down the line. Check out the press release in its entirety just after the cut below.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/ea-signs-on-to-distribute-the-wheel-of-time-mmo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EA signs on to distribute the Wheel of Time MMO</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/ea-signs-on-to-distribute-the-wheel-of-time-mmo/">EA signs on to distribute the Wheel of Time MMO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 15 Jan 2009 12:00:00 EST. At first thought, a <em><a href="http://www.rockband.com">Rock Band</a></em>-inspired MMO may not sound like the greatest idea to everyone. I've actually entertained the idea for a long time now, only shove it aside as a crazy notion. But the thing kept popping back into the forefront of my mind so often that I couldn't discount it as happenstance. I've become enamored with the idea, because let's face it; a <em>Rock Band</em> MMO has the potential to ooze- no, to gush pure liquid awesome. <br /><br />
