<a href="www.warhammeronline.com" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a> players are in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/test-server-patch-notes-for-warhammers-bitter-rivals-event-re/">midst of the Bitter Rivals</a> live event, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/the-daily-grind-what-excites-you-most-about-wars-call-to-arms/">plus another big new patch</a>. I'm going to guess that it probably took a lot of development muscle to get the Black Guard, Knight of the Blazing Sun, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/massively-re-arms-for-war-slayer/">Slayer</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/massively-re-arms-for-war-meet-da-choppa/">Choppa</a> in a fun, playable shape. Not to mention the improvements to open RvR, Scenarios, PvE and general quality of life fixes.<br /><br />I have no doubt that the east coast developer has the next several patches planned out to some degree. Nonetheless, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Mythic/">Mythic</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Warhammer-Online/" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a> and its community are at a development crossroads -- and so today I'm going to explore a few possibilities.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/07/the-digital-continuum-beyond-warhammer-online-patch-1-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Beyond Warhammer Online patch 1.2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/07/the-digital-continuum-beyond-warhammer-online-patch-1-2/">The Digital Continuum: Beyond Warhammer Online patch 1.2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 07 Mar 2009 12:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://massively.com/tag/bitter-rivals/">the release of the orc choppa only days away</a>, Massively thought you might be interested in a career guide. I had a chance to try out the choppa this past weekend on the public test server (PTS). <a href="http://mythicentertainment.com/">Mythic</a> was giving out free rank 40, renown rank 41 templates and asked us to wreck some havoc in the world of <a href="http://warhammeronline.com/"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>. I played my choppa extensively in open <a href="http://massively.com/tag/rvr">RvR</a> and even tried a bit of <a href="http://massively.com/tag/pve">PvE</a>.<br /><br /><strong>Introduction</strong><br /><br />The orc choppa is the most psychotic greenskin career. Heck, make that the most psychotic career in all of <em>Warhammer Online</em>! The goal of the choppa is to throw himself upon his foes and work himself up into a blind fury. The longer he stays in combat, the more damage he will do. Of course, with such little regard for personal safety, he will also become more susceptible to damage. This next part may seem a bit confusing, but realize that greenskins are actually quite simple: choppas are named after their weapons, which are called choppas. These implements are sharp and jagged hunks of metal strapped together with wood and leather. Choppas can use one big choppa or two smaller choppas. They are very basic but very deadly...<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/massively-re-arms-for-war-meet-da-choppa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively re-arms for WAR: Meet Da' Choppa</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/massively-re-arms-for-war-meet-da-choppa/">Massively re-arms for WAR: Meet Da' Choppa</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 09:00:00 EST. With today's announcement that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/the-dwarf-slayer-and-orc-choppa-coming-to-warhammer-online-with/">the Slayer and Choppa careers will be added</a> to <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a>, you may be asking yourself, "So what's the big deal?" Most of the people asking this probably aren't <a href="http://massively.com/tag/war/"><span style="font-style: italic;">WAR</span></a> followers, which is understandable. There are, however, people who play <span style="font-style: italic;">WAR</span> that don't really think these two careers should be a priority for <a href="http://mythicentertainment.com">Mythic</a> right now given all the other issues. I'm writing this article to prove the non-believers wrong and shed a little light on why the <a href="http://massively.com/tag/choppa/">Choppa</a> and <a href="http://massively.com/tag/slayer/">Slayer</a> are so cool for the <span style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer</span> novice.<br /><br />First, let's look at the main similarities between these two careers. The Choppa and Slayer were both tested back in <span style="font-style: italic;">WAR</span> beta. Actually, the Slayer was called the <a href="http://massively.com/tag/hammerer/">Hammerer</a> back then, which was basically a cheap knock-off because Mythic and <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/">Games Workshop</a> couldn't work out lore issues. The basic concept of the Hammerer was quite Slayer-esque in that it was a surly dual-wielding melee DPS dwarf. Mythic decided that the Hammerer and Choppa weren't quite on par with the other careers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/e308-warhammers-designers-explain-the-career-city-removal/">so they were cut</a> (along with the <a href="http://massively.com/tag/blackguard/">Blackguard</a> and <a href="http://massively.com/tag/knight-of-the-blazing-sun/">Knight of the Blazing Sun</a>) from release. Note: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/heavy-metal-live-event-brings-two-new-careers-to-warhammer-onlin/">the BG and KotBS were added shortly afterward</a>. <br /><br />Continue reading below the cut where we'll continue to look into their similarities and specific characteristics.<strong><br /></strong><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/choppa-slayer-so-whats-the-big-deal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Choppa. Since <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>'s launch, we haven't heard much out of the normally very vocal Creative Director for Mythic, Paul Barnett. Yet, in <a href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/47463">a recent interview at Ten Ton Hammer</a>, Barnett speaks out about a few topics that are near and dear to his heart; most notably, the psychology of player races in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/warhammer-online/">WAR</a></em> and how they pertain to appearance.<br /><br />Barnett is usually full of witty metaphors and clever comparisons, and he certainly doesn't disappoint in this interview. On the topic of <a href="http://warhammeronline.com/armiesofWAR/dwarfs/Dwarfs.php">Dwarfs</a>, Barnett muses on the people who play them and how <em>"Most of the people I've met who like Dwarfs basically look like Dwarfs"</em>. He goes on to discuss the psychology of the <a href="http://warhammeronline.com/armiesofWAR/greenskins/Greenskins.php">Greenskins</a>, <a href="http://warhammeronline.com/armiesofWAR/chaos/Chaos.php">Chaos</a> players and finally the <a href="http://warhammeronline.com/armiesofWAR/highelves/HighElf.php">Elves</a>. <em>"I don't think people that play as Elves look like Elves either, because then I'd have to hunt them all down and kill them because they're too perfect. And if you did look like a Dark Elf or High Elf, you wouldn't be playing our game, you'd be walking around asking people to look at you because you're so beautiful."</em><hr />

Tier 1 players in the Mount Bloodhorn and Ekrund zones are able to queue up for this scenario, and battle for control of the mighty Gates that separate the two regions. Featuring three objectives to capture, the real fight will almost always take place at the Gate Switch in the middle. Do you know where your developers are tonight? Chances are the guys and gals over at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic">Mythic Entertainment</a> are busy scrambling to triple-check everything for the second time today. Meanwhile, the rest of us are awaiting one of three "launch" days with bated breath. Many of you are probably waiting for Tuesday, when the general pre-orders get to join the head start. However for a lot of players day one is coming tomorrow. So on the eve of "Hurricane <span style="font-style: italic;">WAR</span>" approaching, I felt like going over some random bits about the game before it's no longer a beta and instead a newly launched MMORPG.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/13/the-digital-continuum-the-calm-before-the-war-storm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: The calm before the WAR storm</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/13/the-digital-continuum-the-calm-before-the-war-storm/">The Digital Continuum: The calm before the WAR storm</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 13 Sep 2008 12:00:00 EST. You've jumped into <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em>, and you're ready to go. You've picked your terror-inducing class and you're happy with your <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/massively-goes-to-war-the-classes-of-warhammer-in-a-nutshell/">class's vile mechanics</a> ... but perhaps you don't want to play in your race's assigned tiers. You're a Chaos Warrior that wants to bash some stunty heads, maybe, or a Greenskin with a taste for human flesh. Whether you're heading to the Destruction capital city or one of the other starting zones, it should be as easy as hiking to the first RvR War Camp in your starting zone ... but where is that? If you've never played before, how do you know?<br />
<br />
Well, we've got what you need. Click through below the cut for full details and maps on how to get to the first war camps in Mount Bloodhorn, the Blighted Isle, and the zone of Norsca. Make sure you tell the flight masters that Massively sent you!<br />

I've given <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/the-digital-continuum-dark-elf-days-in-war/">my thoughts on the Dark Elf section</a> of <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a>, but now that the whole NDA is lifted I can finally speak about my experience with the beta as a whole. I've been in it for a long time. A really long time, in fact. We're talking about, well, since the thing started. Which gives me something more to say than the typical tester talking about this game. In my time interacting as a member of the beta community with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Mythic/">Mythic</a> -- concerning <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/">Warhammer Online</a>, of course -- I think I've seen more progress made on any MMO in the span of about a year than I have in any other in beta. And I've been in a lot of them.<br /><br />So what's the big deal? New MMOs are always facing the issue of going up against <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft's</a> several years of polishing. Everyone has always wondered what it would take to deal with that issue, too. Mythic seems to have decided it will take raw, unadulterated determination. The kind that a child displays when presented with the opportunity to have a new toy. It also helps to have a license that Blizzard themselves once attempted to acquire because of its depth. Ironic? Only if <span style="font-style: italic;">WAR</span> really does take a big chug out of the <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a> milkshake.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/23/the-digital-continuum-memoirs-of-a-war-beta-tester/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Memoirs of a WAR beta tester</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/23/the-digital-continuum-memoirs-of-a-war-beta-tester/">The Digital Continuum: Memoirs of a WAR beta tester</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 23 Aug 2008 11:00:00 EST. If you're a planning on being a Destruction player in <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a> and want to focus on healing, consider yourself covered. For starters, don't worry about being a heal-bot, this game probably has some of the most damage capable healers in an MMO that we've seen to date. That's not to say a healer can out-damage a DPS class, instead they're simply deft at dealing with combat on their own terms. For example: whether you enjoy keeping some distance from combat while supporting allies or prefer to get down and dirty, your needs will be met. It's indeed a diverse healing world in <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/">Warhammer Online</a> and we've got it all mapped out for you.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/massively-goes-to-war-an-overview-of-healing-careers-for-destru/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively goes to WAR: An overview of Healing careers for Destruction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/massively-goes-to-war-an-overview-of-healing-careers-for-destru/">Massively goes to WAR: An overview of Healing careers for Destruction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 20:00:00 EST. Meat shield. Damage sponge. Brick house? You know them as tanks, we know them as bipedal beefnauts. The players who wade through the battlefield wearing nothing but the heaviest of heavy metals. In <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a>, the side of Destruction has two tanks to pick from and both of them are very angry individuals. Maybe it's because of all that trauma that they're constantly taking to the head. Then again, they could just be crazy. You'd have to be, to want people to beat on you constantly. Either way, we've got the skinny on the Greenskin Black Orc and Chaos Chosen.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/massively-goes-to-war-an-overview-of-tanking-careers-for-destru/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively goes to WAR: An overview of Tanking careers for Destruction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/massively-goes-to-war-an-overview-of-tanking-careers-for-destru/">Massively goes to WAR: An overview of Tanking careers for Destruction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 17:00:00 EST. So we've given you some <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/elves-of-war/">hot-off-the-pre-NDA lift information</a> on both the Dark Elves and High Elves. Now we pose to you a "Would you rather" situation: Dark Elves or High Elves? We're aware that Elves tend to be a love-hate relationship with most of us. So even if you would much rather run around as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/jay-leno-joins-the-greenskins-in-warhammer-online/">an awesome Greenskin</a> or an Order race, we simply must know which of two evils would <em>you</em> pick and why?<br /><br />We can certainly understand if you'd want to play as the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/the-digital-continuum-dark-elf-days-in-war/">sinister, wicked and all-around clinically insane</a> Dark Elves. Though there are likely plenty of people who enjoy running around in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/10/the-elves-of-war-meet-the-white-lion/">bright nansy-pansy High Elf robes</a> with giant, golden swords, too. Our strategy is to pretend they're not most certainly surrounding us at every moment. If we succumbed to the truth of it, the world we've built up around ourselves may just crush us into tiny, gooey blogger giblets.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/11/the-daily-grind-would-you-rather-play-high-elves-or-dark-elves/">The Daily Grind: Would you rather play High Elves or Dark Elves?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 11 Aug 2008 08:00:00 EST. So we've gotten <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/08/the-elves-of-war-massively-begins-pre-nda-lift-elven-blogging/">official approval to speak our minds early</a> and often about the Dark Elf (High Elves too, but bollocks to Order, I say!) experience in tier one and two as much as we like. That led me to decide that it would be fun to give you my personal take on them. Especially <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/12/the-digital-continuum-diet-war/">considering that in the not-so-distant past</a> I made my worries about <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a> very well known. As worrisome as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic">Mythic's</a> decision to remove four cities and four -- but in reality, two -- classes made me before, I'm happy to say that overall my experience with the early Dark Elf starting zone has been a positive one.<br /><br />From the moment you enter <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a> as a level one Dark Elf surrounded by Black Arks and clanging metal, you'll be made to feel like an evil and menacing figure. This is done in various ways and I'm glad to say that it's never undone. One way Mythic invests you into your character is the first quest you ever receive and it's going to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/jay-leno-joins-the-greenskins-in-warhammer-online/">put a smile on a lot of your faces</a>, unless you're an Order player. If you're an Order or player, you'll probably want to run into my sword for Malekith's sake. Trust me, it's really all for the best.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/the-digital-continuum-dark-elf-days-in-war/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Dark Elf days in WAR</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/the-digital-continuum-dark-elf-days-in-war/">The Digital Continuum: Dark Elf days in WAR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 09 Aug 2008 13:00:00 EST. On first seeing this video, we're not entirely sure what to think. Does Jay Leno really prefer being a Gobbo in <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> or is it just that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-goblin-shaman/">Gobbos are the only ones with big chins</a>? We're guessing it's the chin. You're probably rightfully wondering why <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/">Warhammer Online</a></em> is appearing on The Tonight Show. Well you're not alone. Our only guess would be that this is some sort of preemptive <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/mythic-lets-slip-the-dogs-of-war-warhammer-online-launches-sept/">strike at cultural relevance before the game is even out</a>. Everyone knows that once a game has cultural relevance it's just a matter of time until those subscription numbers start falling from the sky like nerdy rain.<br /><br />It's also probable that this is just an honest-to-goodness case of The Tonight Show taking an interest in <em>Warhammer Online</em>. Paul Barnett is there on that video doing his "Crazy Englishman on Crack" bit that we love him for doing. Either way, it's a baffling video to watch and you'll probably find your palm firmly pressed against your face by the end of its short duration. It's after the cut, for those of you brave enough to watch it.<br /> <hr />

Diet <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a>: same great taste, less content. Is it bad that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/ea-mythic-back-to-the-original-mythic-entertainment-name/">the recently re-branded</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic-entertainment/">Mythic Entertainment</a> just <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/mark-jacobs-announces-major-features-cut-from-warhammer-online/">cut out a large portion</a> of our <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/">Warhammer Online</a> pie and put it in the deep freeze? Well it's certainly not good when a developer cuts content they've been talking about publicly for so long, especially when launch is only three or four months away. I've already written about why this MMO ode to classic tabletop trappings <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/08/the-digital-continuum-a-fork-in-the-road-for-war/">shouldn't be shoved onto shelves half-baked</a> and I still feel like I'd rather see a delay than see so much content cut. While there have been plenty of delays already, that doesn't mean more would have been intolerable. <br /><br />I'm going to try and take an honest look at what the removal of four capital cities and four classes means for <span style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</span>. I will admit that when the news first hit, a vile and seemingly ancient sort of anger <a href="http://www.warhammeralliance.com/articles/showentry.php?e=76">began to boil up inside my lungs</a>. It was the onset of some form of draconian rage at the removal of so much content that I'd been personally invested in as a future player. I never really got into Chaos and planned on playing Dark Elves, but now a large part of that content is gone. At first I felt anger and confusion towards Mythic. It wasn't until after that initial knee-jerk anger passed that I was able to give some real thought to their choice and was able to consider the varied consequences.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/12/the-digital-continuum-diet-war/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Diet WAR</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/12/the-digital-continuum-diet-war/">The Digital Continuum: Diet WAR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 12 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST. Hail, fellow onlookers! (IE: Those of us not in <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> beta). Last month's news about the <a href="http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=139">Advance on Altdorf</a> has kept our breath at bay. You can breathe easy, there will be no peace. In this <a href="http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=144">latest dispatch concerning the Aegis of the Oathbearers</a> and Bloody Sun Boyz it indicates that the Greenskins and Dwarfs took up arms against one another clashing for the first time in over half a year. Further tasty lore bits and new images from the beta can be seen over on the <a href="http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsOverview.war"><em>Warhammer </em>Herald</a>. <br /><br />It's hinted that the next focus test will involve guilds. This is exciting news, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/mythic-on-the-war-guild-beta-phase-2-contest-were-on-it/">maybe some guilds that won invites last April will finally reap their better later than never reward</a>. Sitting down with Josh Drescher and Adam Gershowitz to discuss the classes in <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a> is somewhat like getting to sit next to the director during a feature film. They're so intimately tied to the game that every race, class, and locale in the game has an associated story. We had the chance to get the director's commentary straight from the source, and the result is a wealth of knowledge about the 24 different in-game classes.<br />
<br />
The first class we took for a tour was the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Goblin%20Shaman">Goblin Shaman</a>, the healer/DoT specialist for the greenskin race. Though nothing was said beforehand, the tiny gobbos with the big sticks are this blogger's favorite class. It was therefore especially enjoyable to check out the numerous tweaks to the concept, look, and UI of the little healer. Read on for the full <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orc_%28Warhammer%29#WAAAGH.21">Waagh!</a><br />

The racial pairing we still have the least information for has been the High and Dark Elves, but that is starting to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/19/war-class-info-high-elf-shadow-warrior/">change</a>. Enter the Saphery zone -- a third tier zone for High Elves -- that is chocked full of magical energies and ancient High Elf beauty. This makes it a target for Dark Elves who want to twist and malign those energies, the Greenskins so they can smash all the pretty stuff and the Chaos so they can, well, bring chaos to everything in sight we suppose. <br /><br />There's actually quite a bit (actually, more like tons) of background <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/war-boss-prologue-lorkoth-and-scornlash/">lore</a> in the zone overview of Saphery. We've noticed for some time now that a lot of structure designs in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> are very, very tall. However it looks like High Elf architecture trumps all other height-imbued buildings, but that makes sense since High Elves are all about being tall and uppity. Oh, we're <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/warhammer-onlines-voice-over-video/">digging</a> the blue-leafed trees as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/wars-saphery-zone-is-full-of-tall-magical-things/">WAR's Saphery zone is full of tall magical things</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 03 Mar 2008 21:00:00 EST. One of the most difficult aspects of covering the media build-up to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online's</em></a> release is the need to rewrite <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/wha-tellz-you-grots-bout-da-waaagh/">any post involving Greenskins</a> to include the infamous Orc-speak that fans of the fluff are so fond of. To the casual observer, it might appear like a simple matter of changing verb tense and throwing in a few zeds here and there. Not true! It's an extensive scholarly process that takes years to learn, and decades to master. To put it frankly, it's not as easy as it looks.<br /><br />Well imagine our delight then to find that WAR Europe guys have gone to the trouble of <a href="http://www.war-europe.com/#/orcanizer/?lang=en">putting together the Orcaniser!</a> It operates like an Orcy version of <a href="http://babelfish.altavista.com/">babelfish</a>, giving fans the ability to translate normal human speech into authentic Orc dialect. And it works in five languages! Obviously, there's always a little bit lost in translation, and it doesn't automatically account for the Orcy need to talk about smashing heads once every couple sentences, but it's good as we're liable to do. See for yourself:<br /><br /><em>To be or not to be, dat is da question;<br />Whetha 'tis nobla in da mind to suffa<br />Da slingz an' arrowz of outrageouz fortune,<br />Or to take armz against a sea of troublez,<br />An' by opposin', end dem.<br /><br /></em>[Via <a href="http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26895">WHA</a>]<em><br /><br /></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/war-europes-orcaniser-teaches-players-to-talk-the-talk/">WAR Europe's Orcaniser teaches players to talk the talk</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 18:00:00 EST. All right, when we first heard about trophies in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a>, we'll admit to being filled with an abundance of child-like glee. There's a reason that we're willing to admit it though and it's because trophies are one of the coolest things about the upcoming massively game. The idea that when you kill a truly impressive enemy, you not only get loot (in the case of PvE) but a trophy to wear -- as a badge of honor -- is something to get a little excited about.<br /><br /><a href="http://www,massively.com/tag/ea-mythic">EA Mythic's</a> Justin Webb has a great <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/behindTheScenes/developmentDiaries/Trophies.php">writeup</a> over on the <span style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</span> website concerning the Trophy system. You can think of the it as another layer of visual customization for your characters in <span style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</span>. It's a system that exists alongside initial character creation, armor diversity and being able to dye armors. With a system like this there's a lot to cover, so feel free to check out the good n' gritty bits on trophies after the break.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/new-bits-about-wars-trophy-system/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New bits about WAR's Trophy System</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/new-bits-about-wars-trophy-system/">New bits about WAR's Trophy System</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2008 17:00:00 EST. One of the aspects about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online's</em></a> Greenskins that seems to endear them to players so much is that they present the opportunity to write in a hackneyed and entirely ungrammatically stunted form of english. <em>Wut iz dees humies lookin' at dem shiny bits for? </em>See, I slipped into character there. I bet you thought I was an Orc for a second. It's OK, you don't have to feel bad, I'm a pretty good actor.<br /><br />For those not already well steeped in the Warhammer lore via the tabletop game and pen and paper RPG, the folks over at Warhammer Alliance have been going <a href="http://www.warhammeralliance.com/articles/showentry.php?e=50">faction by faction</a> putting up guides to the various races. By some strange fortune, we somehow missed the fact that <a href="http://www.warhammeralliance.com/articles/showentry.php?e=48&amp;catid=3">they had posted a "Guide to the Waaagh"</a> last week, replete with biological information, sociological observations, and of course a gracious dose of Orc-speak. It's a short run-down, but well worth soaking up for anybody at all interested in fielding a Black Orc or Shaman into battle in Q2 of this year.<br /><br />Of course, if you really want to get serious about things, you should probably pick up the <a href="http://oz.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/orcs/catalog/default.htm">Orcs &amp; Goblins Army book</a> or bookmark the <a href="http://www.warhammerwiki.org/index.php?title=Main_Page">Warhammer Wiki</a> for perusal at work.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/wha-tellz-you-grots-bout-da-waaagh/">WHA tellz you grots bout da' WAAAGH!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 29 Jan 2008 09:00:00 EST. Building on the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/25/enormous-beta-update-for-warhammer-online-shares-loads-of-new-de/">most recent</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/warhammer-beta-update-part-iii/">Beta Updates</a>, the dev team lets loose with a huge pile of goodies. Highlights include:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Mounts! Aside from the handsome porcine steed above (a Greenskin favorite), they have images up for an Ale-powered Dwarven carriage, felsteeds for Chaos riders, and beautiful beasts for the Elves and Empire.</li>
    <li>A lengthy screed on the mysterious <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/behindTheScenes/developmentDiaries/TomeofKnowledge.php">Tome of Knowledge</a>. Their article runs down what you're like to see in the book, and what kinds of tales it will record for your own character.</li>
    <li>A Paul Barnett special presentation on the <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/media/flash/Paul-Sorceress-BR1000.html">Dark Elf Sorceress</a> ... and Sorcerer! Yes, boy and girl evil mages. As Paul puts it, <em>"They're both emo, and they both live forever!"</em> <br /></li>
    <li>A first look at work on a new <em>Warhammer</em> cinematic trailer (you know, since you're probably <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/video/easterEggs/WAR_Promo_081606.html">tired of the first one</a>).</li>
    <li>An in-depth look at <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/armiesofWAR/HighElves/Careers/Archmage.php">the High Elf Archmage class</a>.</li>
    <li>An <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/zoneOverviews/Shadowlands/ShadowlandsOverview.php">overview of the Shadowlands zone</a>, an elven area.</li>
    <li>A look at another Public Quest! My favorite idea from the game, as of yet. They run down the <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/BossProfile/PQBoss_KingBG.php">IronClad confrontation with King Byrrnoth Grundadrakk</a>.</li>
    <li>One of the always-enjoyable animated game design presentations, this one detailing <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/media/flash/2007-11_pp-GameSystemChanges.html">major changes to the Careers and RvR systems</a>.</li>
    <li>The video of the month walks us <a href="http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/media/flash/VotM_InevCity-BR1000.html">deep into the Inevitable City</a>, the capital of the followers of Chaos.</li>
    <li>A bunch of other delights, like <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/behindTheScenes/vidPhoneDiaries/2007november.php">Paul's Video Diaries</a>, a <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/community/grabBag/grabBag_november2007.php">Grab Bag update</a>, and another <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/community/betaJournal/november2007.php">Beta Journal Entry</a>.</li>
</ul>
