I'm going to jump on this one before anyone else does. The company <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/overwolf/">Overwolf</a> developed a little application that provides MMO players with social networking, web, video and screenshot functionality without the need to alt+tab out of a game.<br />
<br />
It's a lot like what <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion/">Trion</a> has built into <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift/">RIFT</a></em>, only in a third-party package, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/frogster/">Frogster</a> partnered with Overwolf to provide a <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/runes-of-magic/">Runes of Magic</a>-</em>branded version called Magic Hub -- complete with <em>RoM-</em>specific buttons.<br />
<br />
After some technical problems, I got Magic Hub to work and put it through its paces. There are other applications out there that provide a wide range of functionality for gamers, but since this one is customized for <em>RoM</em>, I thought I'd give my impressions.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/lost-pages-of-taborea-test-driving-magic-hub/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lost Pages of Taborea: Test driving Magic Hub</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/lost-pages-of-taborea-test-driving-magic-hub/">Lost Pages of Taborea: Test driving Magic Hub</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 12 Sep 2011 18:00:00 EST. Dave Murray is the UI director of <em><a href="http://www.champions-online.com">Champions Online</a></em>, although this isn't his first gig working on a user interface. Before he came to work for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Cryptic/">Cryptic</a>, Dave <a href="http://championsonlinedailynews.com/how-google-influenced-champions-online/">was part of the team that developed</a> Google's Gmail interface, so you can imagine he's got some experience. He worked on that project for two years, and that time spent seems to have taught him that less is more.<br /><br />Our experience with user interfaces have proven the simplicity-to-powerful ratio to be incredibly important. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/13/create-my-champion-bgbb/">In our time with</a> <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Champions-Online/">Champions Online</a></em>, the powers window and its ability to sort through the huge list of powers fluidly has been a prime example of this philosophy. We already knew that someone over at Cryptic knew what they were doing with the UI, but it's good to have a name so we can say thanks to Dave. Thanks Dave!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/champions-onlines-user-interface-and-its-google-connection/">Champions Online's user interface and its Google connection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 14 Aug 2009 13:00:00 EST. In Austin, using it was practically mandatory, or you wouldn't know where anyone was. After that, it tapered off, but then suddenly everyone in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/second-life/"><em>Second Life</em></a> was using it. However, because there's not really a search function, it's been difficult to tell who from <em>SL</em> actually uses <a href="http://www.secondlifeinsider.com/tag/twitter/">Twitter</a>.<br /><br />Sure, you could always use <a href="http://twitter.com/blog/2007/09/tracking-twitter.html">Twitter Tracking</a>, but if you value your text messages, or have trouble with the IM client, it's hard to follow. There was once a way to find people through your <a href="https://twitter.com/invitations/gmail">Gmail contacts</a>, but that's been disabled. Enter <a href="http://www.davidsterry.com/tweetscan/">Tweet Scan</a>, which allows you to search for up to five keywords and have their results delivered by email.<br /><br />A quick <a href="http://www.davidsterry.com/tweetscan/index.php?s=second+life">scan of <span style="font-style: italic;">Second Life</span></a> turns up many people I don't have on my list. I was also able to sift through <a href="http://www.davidsterry.com/tweetscan/index.php?s=massively">tweets about Massively</a>, to see what our readers think. While it's not perfect, and some results will be erroneous, it can certainly make it easier to find your friends.
