The big announcement we've all been waiting for has finally arrived: <a href="http://diablo3.com/"><em>Diablo III</em></a> has a release date! This week the beta was wiped to prepare for launch, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard-entertainment">Blizzard</a>'s Jay Wilson responded to questions about the cash auction house in hardcore mode. Competing title <a href="http://pathofexile.com/"><em>Path of Exile</em></a> continued development toward its own release, and <a href="http://www.torchlight2game.com/"><em>Torchlight II</em></a> gave players a unique look under the hood of the game with a breakdown of item drop statistics. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/runic-games">Runic Games</a> congratulated the <a href="http://diablo.com/"><em>Diablo</em></a> team on its release date announcement and published an open letter to fans urging them to just wait a little longer for their <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/torchlight/"><em>Torchlight</em></a> fix.<br />
<br />
In <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/MOBA/"><em>MOBA</em></a> news, <a href="http://leagueoflegends.com/"><em>League of Legends</em></a> revealed its next champion, Lulu, and explored the game's rapidly growing German community. <a href="http://dota2.com/"><em>Dota 2</em></a> added classic <a href="http://playdota.com/"><em>DotA</em></a> hero Shadow Demon and performed some much-needed tweaks to bots, and <a href="http://riseofimmortals.com/"><em>Rise of Immortals</em></a> released the official Azcadelia immortal spotlight. <a href="http://heroesofnewerth.com/"><em>Heroes of Newerth</em></a> released Gunblade, an original ranged agility carry hero that was been met with some strong disapproval in the community. <a href="http://blacklight.perfectworld.com/"><em>Blacklight: Retribution</em></a>'s open beta updates continued this week with the release of its Vertigo map, a battleground set in the roofspaces of a sprawling industrial complex.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/not-so-massively-diablo-iiis-competitors-speak-up-and-lol-reve/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Not So Massively: Diablo III's competitors speak up and LoL reveals Lulu</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/not-so-massively-diablo-iiis-competitors-speak-up-and-lol-reve/">Not So Massively: Diablo III's competitors speak up and LoL reveals Lulu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2012 20:00:00 EST. European players eager to get their hands on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/vindictus"><em>Vindictus</em></a> have a good reason to get pumped up today, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/nexon/">Nexon Europe</a> has launched the <em>Vindictus</em> EU teaser site for the upcoming MMO regional release.<br />
<br />
The gorgeous website boasts both English and German language options, has an overview of the game and characters, and is prepared to inject fans with screenshots, wallpapers and a rocking trailer to keep the excitement level high. Players looking to put in for extra credit may sign up for the game's newsletter and Facebook page as well.<br />
<br />
Seeing as how incredibly popular <em>Vindictus </em>has been in both the Asian and North American markets, Europe should prepare to fall in love with the fast-paced action MMO. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/vindictus-gets-a-european-launch-window-at-long-last/"><em>Vindictus</em> will launch in Europe</a> sometime in the fourth quarter of this year, and is prepared to make a splashy appearance at next month's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom/">Gamescom</a> in Germany.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/29/nexon-unveils-vindictus-eu-website/">Nexon unveils Vindictus' EU website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 11:30:00 EST. If bright 'n shiny sci-fi titles or valiant fantasy MMOs are too pristine for you liking, then you're most likely the sort that's looking for the next big post-apocalyptic game to grab with gusto. <a href="http://grimlands.gamigo.com/"><em>Grimlands</em></a> looks to be a promising entry into the genre, with third-person shooter mayhem and dynamic content, and players will be able to get their first glimpse of the title at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom/">Gamescom</a> next month in Germany.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Grimlands/"><em>Grimlands</em></a> has a number of intriguing concepts, including a learn-as-you-go skill system and player-controlled cities. Like many of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamigo/">gamigo's</a> titles, <em>Grimlands </em>will be free-to-play, which should lower the barrier of entry for this scrappy little go-getter.<br />
<br />
Gamescom will take place from August 17th through the 21st. Along with <em>Grimlands</em>, gamigo will be showcasing <a href="http://www.jaggedalliance.com/"><em>Jagged Alliance Online</em></a> and <a href="http://ufo-online.gamigo.com/"><em>UFO Online</em></a>. You can read up on gamigo's hot new lineup <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/gamigo-opens-the-news-floodgates/">in our first look article</a>.<br />

	<a href="https://www.wizard101.com/game/promotions/megacard"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/gamestop20double20wide20sultans20palace.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.kingsisle.com/">KingsIsle Entertainment</a>, maker of the very popular card-based freemium title <em><a href="https://www.wizard101.com/start">Wizard101</a>, </em>announced today that it will be releasing a brand-new mega-bundle pre-paid card to stores across the country. Here's how the cards work: Players pay a set amount and receive a card with a code that, once redeemed in-game, can add all sorts of gold, goodies, and other options. The new card features a new flying carpet mount, a <em>massive</em> sultan's palace complete with a mirage, 5000 crowns to be used in the cash shop, and several other fun items. It's no wonder the cards have become one of the best-selling cards at <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/">Gamestop</a> -- they offer an all-in-one package that is easy to pick up.<br />
<br />
Canadians worried about getting their hands on these cards can rest easy -- KingsIsle is pushing the cards into major Canadian retailers this fall. <a href="http://epicdolls.com/gamedames/category/about/">Concerned players</a> who have been "surprisingly vocal" about the lack of card access will also get the chance to own exclusive pets available only in their area. This move will bring <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/wizard101"><em>Wizard101</em>'s</a> combined retail presence to over 50,000 stores. Not bad -- not bad <em>at all</em>.<br />
<br />
So, what's next for the freemium giant? Well, KingsIsle just partnered with <a href="http://corporate.gameforge.com/en/">Gameforge</a> to bring the game overseas. Interesting things happen when you have to port a fully voice-acted game like <em>Wizard101</em> to a place like Germany. The UI and map has to be tweaked to allow room for the longer written language, and everything needs to be localized. There are also cultural differences to consider, and the cash shop can be received differently than here in the U.S.<br />
<br />
The new game cards will be offered for $39, but the items included are valued at over $100.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/kingsisle-brings-wizard101-goodies-to-canada/">KingsIsle brings Wizard101 goodies to Canada</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 13 Jun 2011 10:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.riftgame.com/en/"><em>Rift's</em></a> launch looming closer by the day, forces are coming into play faster now than ever before. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion-worlds/">Trion Worlds</a> has announced that <a href="http://www.rift-news.com/index.php/mv/msg/807/1662/#msg_1662">it is partnering with Ubisoft to publish <em>Rift</em> in Europe</a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a>, which has studios in countries all across the globe, will be tasked with releasing the game in <span class="news_body_span">France, Benelux, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Nordics</span>. This deal includes multiple years of service starting in 2011.<br />
<br />
While Ubisoft has handled smaller MMOs, such as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/might-and-magic-heroes-kingdom/"><em>Might and Magic Heroes Kingdom</em></a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift/"><em>Rift </em></a>represents the largest MMO client to date for the company.<br />
<br />
Trion Worlds' CEO Lars Buttler sees this as a great move for the game: <em><span class="news_body_span">"To join forces with an industry leader such as Ubisoft on our first title further demonstrates the potential </span></em><span class="news_body_span">Rift </span><em><span class="news_body_span">has to be a game-changer in the online gaming space. We are thrilled to be working with Ubisoft, one of world's leading publishers, as we reaffirm our commitment to deliver quality products to gamers around the world." </span></em><br />
<br />
While Ubisoft is not without <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubisoft#Controversies">its fair share of controversies</a>, no one can deny that the publisher has clout across the market. <em>Rift's</em> closed beta <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/18/rift-planes-of-telaras-closed-beta-to-start-december-3rd/">starts later this week</a>, and all signs still point toward an early 2011 release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/ubisoft-to-shoulder-rifts-european-publishing/">Ubisoft to shoulder Rift's European publishing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 01 Dec 2010 11:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com"><em>World of Tanks</em></a> is in a class by itself -- if you want to play a vehicle-based MMO focused around motorized armor units, there simply isn't another option available. And while there were more than a few jokes <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/18/world-of-tanks-rolls-onto-the-mmo-battlefield/">at the time of its announcement</a>, successful games with a strong vehicle focus <a href="http://www.eveonline.com">exist already</a>. But the core of a game like this is going to be the vehicles themselves, both their diversity and their interesting traits to set each one apart from its peers. The developers have released the access trees for all three main nations in the game -- <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com/news/german_tank_tree">Germany</a>, <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com/news/american_tree">the USA</a>, and <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com/news/soviet_tank_tree">the USSR</a> -- giving hopeful players an idea of what they can use to thunder about the countryside. <br />
<br />
Spanning the period between World War II and the Korean War, the list is fairly exhaustive, showcasing the diversity of tanks on the battlefield. The German progression path even includes the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_VIII_Maus">Maus</a>, an experimental tank of absurd size that should please <a href="http://www.amazon.com/My-Tank-Fight-Zack-Parsons/dp/0806527587">fans of bizarre WWII machinery</a>. And if rolling around in a two-story tank doesn't get you excited, well, you're probably not the target audience. All three progress charts can be <a href="http://www.worldoftanks.com/gallery/art/1">found on the official site</a> for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/World-of-Tanks/"><em>World of Tanks</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/a-look-at-leveling-in-world-of-tanks/">A look at leveling in World of Tanks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 12 Mar 2010 16:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.blackprophecy.com"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a> is one of the hotly anticipated games on the horizon that sci-fi MMO fans have been wanting to hear more about. Until recently though, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/reakktor-media">Reakktor Media</a> wasn't quite ready to reveal many of the specifics of what the game will offer. We've known that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/black-prophecy"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a>'s gameplay will differ from titles in the genre like <a href="http://www.eveonline.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> -- with <a href="http://www.reakktor.com">Reakktor</a>'s game a bit more accessible in terms of learning curve and with a more dynamic feel to piloting space ships. Plus, if the screenshots and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/black-prophecy-trailer-offers-a-first-look-at-gameplay-experienc/">video footage</a> are an accurate indication, <em>Black Prophecy</em> will be <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/black-prophecys-unique-art-style-blends-realism-with-the-unreal/ ">visually stunning</a> as well.<br />
<br />
Business-wise, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/reakktor-media-financial-woes-resolved-full-speed-ahead-for-bla/">things have recently changed for the better</a> at Reakktor Media and the <em>Black Prophecy</em> project is once again moving ahead at full speed. More info about this title is on the way as well; Reakktor was kind enough to agree to do a series of focused Q&amp;As at Massively about various facets of the game. Over time, this series will cover topics ranging from <em>Black Prophecy</em>'s modification system to details about how players will build space stations. Since we're going to look at some of the fundamental aspects of <em>Black Prophecy</em>, it makes sense that we'd begin this series where the players themselves will begin -- at character creation. <br />
<br />
In our first Q&amp;A in this series, Massively spoke with Jens Kortboyer, Lead Artist on <em>Black Prophecy</em>, who walked us through the design decisions Reakktor made in creating the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/10/the-aesthetics-of-black-prophecys-genide-faction/">look of the Genides</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/the-art-direction-of-black-prophecys-gearheads/">Tyi characters</a>, as well as the visual choices players will have when starting out.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/">Black Prophecy</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4247000"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tyishadowdrone04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246999"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246998"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246996"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screenshot68483896171313173600_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246995"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/frigateaurelia03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/19/massivelys-black-prophecy-qanda-character-creation/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively's Black Prophecy Q&amp;A: Character Creation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/19/massivelys-black-prophecy-qanda-character-creation/">Massively's Black Prophecy Q&amp;A: Character Creation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 19 Dec 2009 16:00:00 EST. Linden Lab identified three non-English regional markets that it felt were priorities for support and localization: Brazil, Korea and Germany.</p>
<p>The first of the providers was Kaizen Games in Brazil, followed by Barunson Games (then called T-Entertainment) in Korea in October 2007. <a href="http://www.bokowsky.net/de/presse/mitteilungen/2009.02.php">Bokowsky and Laymann</a> might constitute a third partner in this program for Germany, but the the actual arrangement there isn't very clear.</p><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/16/second-life-global-provider-program-troubled/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Second Life Global Provider Program troubled?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/16/second-life-global-provider-program-troubled/">Second Life Global Provider Program troubled?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 16 Nov 2009 09:00:00 EST. The sci-fi MMO <a href="http://www.blackprophecy.com"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a> from developer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/reakktor-media">Reakktor Media</a> still has a few significant <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/massively-speaks-with-black-prophecy-development-director-simon/">hurdles to clear before release</a>, but it's looking to be an interesting title from the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/black-prophecy-trailer-offers-a-first-look-at-gameplay-experienc/">gameplay footage we've seen</a> thus far. As they continue to develop <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/black-prophecy"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a> and seek a publisher to help them expand their reach into multiple markets, <a href="http://www.reakktor.com">Reakktor Media</a> has been updating the community on the game's status. <br />

They've just released their <a href="http://newsletter.blackprophecy-game.com/8/en/bp_nl_8_en.html">eighth <em>Black Prophecy</em> newsletter</a> that hits on the media coverage they've received in the last month (along with the latest art assets), a look into <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/the-art-direction-of-black-prophecys-gearheads/">the game's art direction</a>, and the "<a href="http://forum.blackprophecy-game.com/showthread.php?t=429">Pimp My Ship!</a>" that's happening on the official forums. Also, if you're curious about what will differentiate this game from other sci-fi MMOs currently on the market, be sure to have a look through <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/black-prophecy">Massively's <em>Black Prophecy</em> coverage</a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/">Black Prophecy</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4247000"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tyishadowdrone04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246999"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246998"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246996"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screenshot68483896171313173600_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246995"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/frigateaurelia03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/">Black Prophecy Concept Art</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516651"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516658"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-concept-art/#1516652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/04/conceptart_09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/10/31/black-prophecy-newsletter-updates-fans-on-the-game/">Black Prophecy newsletter updates fans on the game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 31 Oct 2009 20:00:00 EST. The first proper expansion for <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com/"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> will be unveiled this August at <a href="http://www.gamescom-cologne.com/">GamesCom</a> in Cologne, Germany. Funcom's Erling Ellingsen confirmed the news:<br /><br /><em>"Yes, we will be revealing the first expansion for Age of Conan at the GamesCom show in August. We have lots of exciting stuff to reveal and Conan players and gamers in general are in for a real treat, but for now, our lips are sealed until then!"<br /><br /></em>The unveil will feature in-game footage and a preview of the quests, monsters, new environments and other additions that will make up the expansion. This news comes not long after the release of a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/age-of-conans-update-5-goes-live-game-director-hints-at-future/">major content patch</a> for<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"> <em>AoC</em></a>, and should help keep that positive momentum going.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/07/age-of-conan-to-unveil-new-expansion-at-gamescom/">Age of Conan to unveil new expansion at GamesCom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 09:00:00 EST. The site states: <em>"MMO fans can expect a fascinating gameplay experience. Based on the globally successful novels, the Otherland gameplay is distinguished by a unique narrative structure. Rather than retelling the story, players will experience their own individual stories within the Otherland universe and will encounter many of the familiar characters from the books. Among the upcoming sci-fi MMO releases we're curious about is <a href="http://www.blackprophecy-game.com/"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a>, a title in development at <a href="http://www.reakktor.com/">Reakktor Media</a> in Germany. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/black-prophecy"><em>Black Prophecy</em></a>'s backdrop is a far future setting where conflict rages between <a href="http://blackprophecy-game.com/index.php?id=26">humanity's two evolutionary offshoots</a>; the biologically-superior Genides wage war against the technologically-superior Tyi. Each opposed faction threatens to wipe out the existence of their rival, but both the Genides and Tyi now face a greater common threat, the ancient Restorer alien race. <br /><br />Reakktor released a cinematic trailer for <em>Black Prophecy</em> today that shows off aggressive fleet battles and new ship designs, while giving us a closer look at the Restorers. We've got a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUnJ4r8ognw">YouTube embed of the <em>Black Prophecy </em>cinematic trailer</a> for you below, best viewed in fullscreen HD:<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/">Black Prophecy</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4247000"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tyishadowdrone04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246999"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246998"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tulimameliorows04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246996"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screenshot68483896171313173600_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/black-prophecy-gallery/#4246995"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/frigateaurelia03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/black-prophecy-cinematic-trailer-reveals-ancient-restorer-race/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Black Prophecy cinematic trailer reveals ancient Restorer race</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/black-prophecy-cinematic-trailer-reveals-ancient-restorer-race/">Black Prophecy cinematic trailer reveals ancient Restorer race</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 18:00:00 EST. The latest news that we've come across comes to us from Germany where the Minister for Social Affairs in Lower Saxony, Mechtchild Ross-Luttman, wants to restrict sales of violent video games to minors in general, imposing fines of up to &euro;50,000 for those caught selling these titles. She also wants to give MMO titles like <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> an "adults only" rating. This reaction to violence in video games comes in the wake of the <a href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/in-europes-league-of-school-shootings-germany-comes-top-1645387.html">tragic school shootings which occurred recently in Germany</a>. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.gameculture.com/node/1177">GameCulture reports</a>: <em>"The proposals come on the heels of a survey by the Kriminologischen Forschuginstituts Nidersachsen (the criminal research institute of Lower Saxony), which reported that 14,000 9th graders in Germany are addicted to videogames, particularly World of Warcraft and first-person shooters."</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/german-social-affairs-minister-wants-wow-classified-adults-only/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>German Social Affairs Minister wants WoW classified 'Adults Only'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/german-social-affairs-minister-wants-wow-classified-adults-only/">German Social Affairs Minister wants WoW classified 'Adults Only'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 18 Mar 2009 15:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> pulled off some <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/war-force-unleashed-storm-european-charts">impressive sales figures</a> in the European market this past week. The Swedish sales chart shows <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>WAR</em></a> at the #1 and #4 (for the Collector's Edition) spots in that country, beating out the highly anticipated <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Wright_(game_designer)">Will Wright</a> project <a href="http://www.spore.com/ftl"><em>Spore</em>.</a> <em>WAR</em> also topped the charts in Spain. In Germany it came in second behind the heavily marketed console game <a href="http://www.lucasarts.com/games/theforceunleashed/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em>.</a><br /><br />Of course an MMO dominating sales charts is nothing new. <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> has done so on and off since its launch four years ago, and <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> debuted at #1 in many regions, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/nonsurprise-aoc-top-selling-pc-game-last-week-of-may/">even defeating the critically acclaimed BioWare tactical RPG <em>Mass Effect</em></a> which launched in the same month. It's also worth noting that the <em>Warhammer</em> IP is very popular in Europe, perhaps more so than in North America.<br /><br />This news jives well with the report that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/half-a-million-users-register-for-war/">half a million users have registered</a> for the game. On the other hand, similar numbers were thrown out around <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>AoC</em></a> shortly after its launch. It's doing okay, but it didn't turn out to be a landscape-altering success that some folks projected, and that some are expecting from <em>WAR</em> as well<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/27/war-battles-spore-the-force-unleashed-for-top-of-eu-sales-chart/">WAR battles Spore, The Force Unleashed for top of EU sales charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 27 Sep 2008 15:00:00 EST. European <a href="http://stargate.mgm.com/"><em>Stargate</em></a> fans take note: <a href="http://www.stargateworlds.com"><em>Stargate Worlds</em></a> will be making an appearance at the <a href="http://www.gc-germany.com/index.php?lang=2">Leipzig Games Convention</a> in -- you guessed it -- Leipzig, Germany. As was the case earlier in the summer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/stargate-worlds-comic-con-event-plans-unveiled/">at Comic Con</a>, <a href="http://www.firesky.com">Firesky</a>/<a href="http://www.cheyenneme.com">Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment</a> have some <a href="http://community.stargateworlds.com/news/1/1109/">special stuff planned.</a><br /><br />The team will be "taking over" the Leipzig Train Station, where they'll be showing "the latest" gameplay trailer (we don't know if it'll be new or not, but presumably, right?) and giving away various stuff, including t-shirts and dog tags. Apparently the prizes will be given out by "Stargate commandos." People in uniform, perhaps? Also, Studio Head Dan Elggren and marketing guy Kevin Balentine will be on site to promote the game and talk to the press.<br /><br />The <em>Stargate</em> franchise has always been popular in Europe -- especially in Germany, so we know there are a few of you out there who'll want in on this. And with that subsidized airfare, getting there might be <em>almost</em> affordable, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/stargate-worlds-will-be-on-display-at-leipzig-train-station/">Stargate Worlds will be on display at Leipzig train station</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 15:00:00 EST. In charts reporting the latest game sales numbers in Europe, <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=10725&amp;Itemid=2">landed the #1 spot</a> in both Sweden and Germany, surpassing even <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/iv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em>.</a><br /><br />Take that with a grain of salt, though, as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta4"><em>GTA4</em></a> were counted separately, and each appeared in high spots in both countries' charts. It seems likely that in Sweden, at least (where <em>GTA4</em> occupied second and third place), <em>GTA4</em> still outsold <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>AoC</em></a> when all platforms are added up. In Spain, <em>AoC</em> placed fourth.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.funcom.com">Funcom</a> has already <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/23/age-of-conan-launches-9-new-servers-to-meet-growing-demand/">launched additional servers</a> to accommodate an <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/26/funcom-boasts-400-000-players-in-age-of-conan-so-far/">impressive player base.</a> <em>AoC</em> might get even bigger when it goes <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/funcom-maze-of-challenges-ahead-for-cross-platform-conan/">cross-platform.</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/conan-grandly-thieves-europe-from-niko-bellic/">Conan grandly thieves Europe from Niko Bellic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 30 May 2008 20:00:00 EST. This fandom apparently loses no potency when applied to MMO versions of the franchise, as the German version of the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/">Warhammer Online</a></em> Collector's Edition has apparently sold out on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Age-Conan-Hyborian-Adventures-Collectors/dp/B000V1OUTU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1208975321&amp;sr=8-3">Amazon</a>. As of right now, there's no word on whether or not more copies of the CE will be produced to meet further demand, but it would be silly for Electronic Arts not to do so.<br />
<div align="left"><br /><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/the-warhammer-that-almost-was/">Surprised?</a> Well you probably shouldn't be, as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_Workshop">Games Workshop</a> has legions of thronging fans throughout Europe and usually experiences the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hasselhoff">Hasselhoff</a> effect in Germany. If this kind of trend continues throughout the rest of Europe, we suppose that <em>Warhammer Online's</em> success in North America could become a bit of a moot point.<br /><br />Whatever happens throughout the rest of Europe, It looks like Germany is <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=PJQVlVHsFF8">hooked on a feeling</a> when it comes to <em>WAR</em>.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/germans-show-undying-love-for-warhammer-online/">Germans show undying love for Warhammer Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 24 Apr 2008 13:00:00 EST. <div align="left">On December 5th, I was invited to the Eidos/Funcom <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan">Age of Conan</a></em> press event, where I was privileged enough to be granted access to both the game itself and the development team. I was able to play the opening area, leading into the first town. I sussed out the combat and the conversation interface. I spoke with J&oslash;rgen Tharaldsen, the Product Developer, and he let drop a metric ton of knowledge upon my fevered noggin. I reprint here our conversation, interspersed with my handheld-shot video pieces, the first of which is shown above, which is where the game starts, with you as a survivor of a shipwrecked slaver ship. I'd like to thank J&oslash;rgen and the entire Eidos/Funcom team, all of whom I found to be gracious, witty, and enthusiastic about their game, which is refreshing to see. My take? The game looks incredible, and it's extremely immersive from the get-go. They say they're on schedule for an early 2008 release, so this is something to anticipate indeed.<br /><br /> <center><embed width="425" height="319" src="http://static4.filefront.com/ffv6/player/vp_embed.swf?v=455230&amp;autorun=false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent"></embed></center><br /> More videos and the interview after the jump!</div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/age-of-conan-product-developer-interview-with-gameplay-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Age of Conan Product Developer interview, with gameplay video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/age-of-conan-product-developer-interview-with-gameplay-video/">Age of Conan Product Developer interview, with gameplay video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 12:00:00 EST.
