We here at Massively aren't ashamed to admit that we're looking forward to <a href="http://www.darkdaysarecoming.com"><em>The Secret World</em></a>. Between our sit-down with Ragnar Tornquist at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/23/gdc10-a-first-glimpse-at-the-secret-world/">GDC10</a> and the juicy bits of into slowly making their way out of the game's unofficial <a href="http://www.kingsmouth.com/">web sites</a>, we're, to put it mildly, stoked. <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-10-the-secret/63665">GameTrailers.com</a> has just fed the fire by unveiling the new trailer for <a href="http://www.funcom.com">Funcom's</a> forthcoming MMORPG, which looks to be a modern riff on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovecraft">Lovecraft</a>-ian horror mythology mixed with a little conspiracy theory.<br />
<br />
The new trailer features a healthy dose of story-based voiceover, glimpses of combat gameplay, and oh yeah, player characters shooting fire from their hands and hacking away with samurai swords. If this footage is any indication, the game will make its mark with a unique combination of class-less progression and atmospheric visuals.<br />
<br />
That said, don't take our word for it. As the trailer says, "<em>go on kid, saddle up. The end of the world waits for no man.</em>" Hit the jump to check it out.<br />
<br />

Still, some of us quite enjoyed playing <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/hellgate-london"><em>Hellgate: London</em></a> or saw the potential in it, and would like to see this happen. Back when <em>Hellgate: London</em> was new and held some promise as a good mix of horror and sci-fi, a few of the writers here envisioned how the game might expand if it were successful. Monikers like <em>Hellgate: Hong Kong</em>, <em>Hellgate: New York</em>, and such were mentioned. As was <em>Hellgate: Tokyo,</em> only it seems this one is actually going to happen... for Asia. <br />
<br />
Our Korean is <strike>rusty</strike> non-existent but the (very brief) <em>Hellgate: Tokyo</em> teaser indicates a 2010 release. Fans of <em>Hellgate: London</em> -- we know there must be a <em>few</em> of you out there somewhere -- can <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-teaser-hellgate-tokyo/59631">find the video over at GameTrailers</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/hellgate-tokyo-still-not-for-you/">Hellgate: Tokyo, still not for you!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 20:00:00 EST. John Walker over at <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/07/02/global-agenda-gets-trailer-happy/">Rock, Paper, Shotgun</a> hunted down and rounded up the new videos from <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com">Gametrailers</a>, which give us a good look at how the game is shaping up. The first video shows off the <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/52239.html">character creation process</a>, with a cut scene explaining your introduction to the world, trapped and floating in a cloning tank monitored by machines, then rescued by armored human allies. That's followed up by footage of other character creation options in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/global-agenda"><span style="font-style: italic;">Global Agenda</span></a>, from the look of your agent's body to <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/52225.html">armor customization</a>, as well as showing how <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/52221.html">large and open the game's social hubs will be</a>. <br /><br />Even better, there are two more videos that show off <span style="font-style: italic;">Global Agenda</span>'s combat, demonstrating both co-op gameplay and PvP. We've got video embeds of the combat footage after the jump:<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/new-global-agenda-gameplay-vids-show-off-customization-and-pvp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Global Agenda gameplay vids show off customization and PvP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/new-global-agenda-gameplay-vids-show-off-customization-and-pvp/">New Global Agenda gameplay vids show off customization and PvP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 15:00:00 EST. While taking down the bad guys in a game is fun, sometimes it's good to be bad, as the newest gameplay footage we've seen of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online"><em>DCUO</em></a> from New York Comic Con shows us.<br /><br />We were pretty excited when we noticed this over at <a href="http://www.yellowspandex.com">Limited Edition</a> today and it's certainly worth a look if you're into the superhero games genre. The <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/45242.html">GameTrailers video</a> is a walkthrough of an open PvP area, from the perspective of a psychotic clown with psi-blasts, blazing speed, and freakish strength. <br />There's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/two-delicious-dc-universe-online-preview-doughnuts/">been a lot information</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/dc-universe-onlines-classes-and-combat-explored/">coming out of CES 2009</a> concerning <em><a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com/">DC Universe Online</a></em>, but it's all been text up until recently. <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com">Gametrailers</a> has <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/44247.html?type=">a three part video walkthrough</a> that details things like character creation philosophy, combat, movement powers and even a fight alongside Superman himself. We've been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/10/slick-hair-cool-poses-in-newest-dc-universe-online-screens/">seeing the new player models</a> for a couple of days now, but this is the first time in a while that we've seen any movement/attack animations. The newly added acrobatics travel power reminds us a lot of super leaping in <em><a href="http://www.coh.com">City of Heroes</a></em>, only with the added benefit of air-dashing, wall-grabbing and double-jumping. We're also digging the death penalty, or lackthereof, and how players can rally back from a knockdown if allies are nearby.<hr />

GameTrailers put together <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/game/10434.html">a three-part series of <em>Warcraft</em> retrospective videos</a> in the days leading up to the launch of <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>'s <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king"><em>Wrath of the Lich King</em></a> expansion, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>WoW</em></a> was the focus of the third and final episode. In over 20 minutes, the video looks at the early MMOs and influences that led to the creation of <em>WoW</em>, the project's beginnings in discussions between <a href="http://www.blizzard.com">Blizzard</a> guys while they were playing <a href="http://everquest.station.sony.com"><em>EverQuest</em></a>, and of course, the game itself.<br /><br />In addition to listing the distinct features that made <em>WoW</em> successful, the restrospective provides an overview of its post-launch history, up through <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-burning-crusade"><em>The Burning Crusade</em></a>'s launch. Everything from Onyxia raids to the ever-changing PvP Honor system is covered. If you're a hardcore <em>WoW</em> addict, little of it will be new information, but if you're just getting started or a casual user, you'll probably learn a thing or two. See the vid embedded after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/11/12/wow-moviewatch-warcraft-retrospective-pt-iii">WoW Insider</a>]<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/world-of-warcrafts-birth-and-development-covered-by-video-retro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World of Warcraft's birth and development chronicled by video retrospective</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/world-of-warcrafts-birth-and-development-covered-by-video-retro/">World of Warcraft's birth and development chronicled by video retrospective</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 20 Nov 2008 14:30:00 EST. We've been following <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/jumpgate-evolution"><em>Jumpgate Evolution</em></a> for a while now, and Massively's Kyle Horner <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/pax08-hermann-peterscheck-interviewed-on-all-things-jumpgate-ev/">recently interviewed NetDevil producer Hermann Peterscheck</a> about the upcoming title. The first expansion to <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.lotro.com">Lord of the Rings Online</a> has gotten a cinematic trailer today <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/37774.html?type=">via Gametrailers</a>. If you know your Lord of the Rings, then there really isn't anything in this <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/27/comic-con-08-turbines-truck-o-trailers/">trailer that's going to surprise you</a>. And while it would have been nice to have seen some of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/lotros-legendary-weapon-system-explained/">new features, well, featured</a>, we're happy to get something regardless. Plus, it's cool to get a taste of what we can expect once the install disc stops spinning and we log in on release day. <br /> <br />If there's one really cool thing to be taken from this trailer, it's the revealing of the box art for the expansion towards its conclusion. The design features a certain gray wizard facing an <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbYlq6O9QkE">infamously awesome Balrog</a>, which, now that we think about it seems like a no-brainer. Hopefully, the next trailer we're all treated with will show some gameplay of either new areas or even the two classes being added to the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/mines-of-moria-cinematic-trailer-debuts/">Mines of Moria cinematic trailer debuts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 31 Jul 2008 18:00:00 EST. One fair criticism that many observers of <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> have levied over the year or so is that from the bits and pieces we've been shown of the game, it looks rather unspectacular. Part of this, we think, is that the lighting elements haven't been fully implemented yet, which gives the game a rather flat, uninteresting look about it. The other reason, it is reasonable to surmise, is that many of the game's most grandiose architectural creations simply haven't been put forward.<br /></div>
<br />In a recent trailer, it seems like many of the games more visually stunning elements are being brought to the fore. While we were still overwhelmed with the sheer volume of <strong>brown</strong>, the scale of the game is much more evident in this video than in past ones, so the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer</em></a> faithful among the Massively staff have found cause to be cautiously optimistic. <br /><br />You might disagree, of course, but make sure to check out the new video after the jump.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/warhammer-online-takes-us-to-epic-places/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Warhammer Online takes us to epic places</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/warhammer-online-takes-us-to-epic-places/">Warhammer Online takes us to epic places</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 26 Jun 2008 13:30:00 EST. Mythic treats us a little badly sometimes, delaying <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/warhammer-online-delayed-to-fall-2008/">months before it's release</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/mythic-expects-war-beta-apps-to-reach-one-million/">touting extraordinary beta application numbers</a> while the vast majority of us are still barred from playing. And even so, we're still enthralled by every new tidbit of information that comes our way, like this latest "home movie" showcasing a decent chunk of new footage from the closed beta.<br /><br />Something still seems kind of funky to this blogger about the way the game looks. Maybe the textures aren't complete or the lighting just hasn't been implemented yet, but it all has some strange unrealistic quality to it that we can't quite pin down. Maybe they just need to turn the gamma down on their demo machines, who knows? We do know the huge <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/player-quests">PQ</a> NPCs look cool though.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamebunny.com/?p=3484">Gamebunny</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/war-home-movie-shows-some-new-assets/">WAR "home movie" shows some new assets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 14:00:00 EST. <br /> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/jumpgate-evolution"><em> Jumpgate Evolution</em></a> is a game that many around the Massively offices have been anticipating with bated breath. It's a game that continues to fly under the radar, despite a gorgeous visual aesthetic and being the product of the fevered minds at NetDevil. While this trailer is somewhat lighter on the gameplay footage than we would liked, it's a refreshing reminder that there is more than just <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> in our futures.<br /> <br />For this blogger, it's NetDevil's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/gdc08-bigger-is-not-always-better/">focus on making a game that scales well</a> with a wide range of different hardware configurations that really makes the project really endearing. In an industry so long dominated by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/tim-sweeneys-beef-with-intel-and-pc-gaming/">Tim Sweeneys</a>, it's nice to see someone like <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Scott-Brown/">Scott Brown</a> every now again, who will focus on shipping a tight, well-developed experience instead of promising the world and then blaming others when he can't deliver.<br /><br />[Thanks Kevin!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/new-short-and-sweet-jumpgate-evolution-trailer/">New short and sweet Jumpgate Evolution trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 19:40:00 EST. <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com">GameTrailers</a> published an <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28581.html?r=1&amp;type=wmv">exclusive new <em>Age of Conan</em> trailer</a> today. It (and everything else on GameTrailers this afternoon) will probably and unfortunately be blown to the wayside by the thermonuclear hype-bomb that is <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2924.html">the new <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> trailer,</a> but really, it's worth viewing. You can watch or download both <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28581.html?r=1&amp;type=wmv">standard def</a> (embedded here) and <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/game/1905.html">high def</a> versions of the trailer.<br /><br />It's narrated by an old warrior at a bar. He describes the decline of his homeland and the trials that followed -- all against a backdrop of countless shots of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>AoC</em></a> characters decapitating one another to epic music. So, pretty much the <em>Age of Conan</em> we've grown to love and expect -- blood that runs like rivers, graphics as impressive as <a href="http://www.apple.com/pr/bios/jobs.html">Steve Jobs' resume,</a> and women as loose with love as <a href="http://www.msnbc.com">cable</a> <a href="http://www.cnn.com">news</a> <a href="http://www.foxnews.com">networks</a> are with the facts!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/heads-roll-in-new-age-of-conan-trailer/">Heads roll in new Age of Conan trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 06 Dec 2007 18:00:00 EST.
