The focus this time around <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/15/star-wars-galaxies-live-update-2-goes-live/">was on the Entertainer and Medic classes</a>. One (long-called for) addition to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Entertainer">Entertainer</a> experience was custom-colored instruments. Bands can now color-coordinate outfits with instruments, making <em>The Dancing Wookie Experience</em> that much more powerful.<br /><br />Developer Jesse Benjamin walks us quickly through <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=67656&amp;month=current">the process of adding a color palette to the craftables</a>, as well as the new and interesting performance props dropped on a grateful dancing public. It's not the most important or extensive dev diary to come from the SOE-Austin studio, but it's always interesting to see what a community-focused team will do to deliver the goods.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/getting-the-colors-right-on-star-wars-galaxies-instruments/">Getting the colors right on Star Wars Galaxies' instruments</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 06:00:00 EST. This continues the new SWG team <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/star-wars-galaxies-releases-first-game-update/">commitment to regular bugfixes and updates</a> in between their larger content drops, called 'Chapters'. We got <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/05/previews-for-star-wars-galaxies-chapter-9-and-update-2/">a tease of this update's content last week</a>, and most of what was hinted at by the developers has shown up in <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=67648">the official patch notes</a>.<br /><br />Highlights include: <br />
<ul>
    <li>Many changes to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Entertainer">Entertainer</a> class (hence the image above). Those lucky performers now have a new instrument, the ability to pause during songs or do solos, new colors for instruments and props, and several long-awaited bug fixes.</li>
    <li>Changes to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Medic">Medic</a> class were prevalent in the update as well. Backline healers were tweaked in a number of statistical ways - primarily aimed at making them more viable in combat.</li>
    <li>The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/09/veteran-swg-players-home-in-on-veteran-reward/">57-month veteran awards</a> were added to the game.</li>
    <li>Minor changes to the Bounty Hunter, Trader, and Smuggler classes</li>
    <li>Improvements to the UI, including <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=67633">a more useful buff interface</a> and a number of UI bugfixes.</li>
    <li>A number of miscellaneous fixes that generally clean up the world a bit. My personal favorite: <em>"The Feather Duster and Flower Bouquet now properly follow prop rules. This means they cannot be equipped in combat and only entertainers can dual wield them."</em></li>

WarCry is hosting a preview of the game's goals in the coming months, with feedback from the dev team on how the first game update went. In a nutshell: not as well as they'd wanted. There was apparently a lot of miscommunication between the players and designers, that resulted in the expectation that Game Update 1's highlighted classes (<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=the%20Spy">the Spy</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Smuggler">Smuggler</a>) would get complete overhauls. That's actually very much not the point of the updates, which are <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/star-wars-galaxies-releases-first-game-update/">only meant to polish out the world's rough parts</a>. <br /><br />The piece goes on to detail some elements we can expect to see in Game Update 2, which should be pushed live in the next week or so. That patch will offer general polishing to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Entertainer">Entertainer</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Medic">Medic</a> classes, along with a new raft of bug fixes. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/chapter-9">Chapter 9</a>, the next proper content drop anticipated before the end of the month, also gets some lip service. <br /><br />The official <em>SWG</em> site has a few tidbits on upcoming content as well. A dev diary talks about the thinking behind <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=67633">the newly improved buff interface</a>, and an article called <a href="http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=67618&amp;month=022008">Domain of Evil</a> offers background on the ominous <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exar_Kun">Exar Kun</a> - a baddie incoming in a Chapter 9 heroic instance.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/05/previews-for-star-wars-galaxies-chapter-9-and-update-2/">Previews for Star Wars Galaxies Chapter 9 and Update 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 05 Mar 2008 21:00:00 EST.
