Those heading to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2011/">Gamescom</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-2011/">PAX Prime</a> later this month have a treat on waiting for them: a hot new demo of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/firefall/"><em>Firefall</em></a>, the free-to-play persistent world shooter. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/red-5/">Red 5 Studios</a> is gracing both conventions with a hands-on experience to let players see if it lives up to the growing hype.<br />
<br />
The Gamescom crowd can expect to enjoy the full demo and some intense coop events, while PAXers will get to see additional multiplayer maps as <em>Firefall </em>debuts its open-world experience.<br />
<br />
Not heading to either convention? Red 5 hopes you don't give up hope, and invites you to sign up for the <em>Firefall </em>beta program, which is currently in the friends and family stage but <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/firefall-announces-beta-details-launch/">is set to expand significantly</a> after PAX. <em>Firefall </em>is slated to launch <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/firefall-launching-in-december/">this December</a>, which is not a minute too soon to those anticipating this title.<br />
<br />
Enough talk -- it's time for action! Hit the jump to check out the awesome new trailer showcasing <em>Firefall's</em> gorgeous cel-shaded look, crazy action scenarios, and glowy glider wings.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/08/new-firefall-hands-on-coming-to-gamescom-and-pax/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Firefall hands-on coming to Gamescom and PAX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/08/new-firefall-hands-on-coming-to-gamescom-and-pax/">New Firefall hands-on coming to Gamescom and PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 15:00:00 EST. One such title is <a href="http://www.play-earthrise.com"><em>Earthrise</em></a>, set in the final refuge of humanity following the rest of the planet's annihilation. Although the game is still in a pre-beta stage of development, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise</em></a> developers, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/masthead-studios">Masthead Studios</a>, have been providing status updates to its growing community through monthly newsletters. <br /><br />Issue VII of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Earthrise</span> newsletter is up, and <a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com/">Masthead Studios</a> has some good news for all of the beta hopefuls out there. There will be several stages of beta invites, and they'll begin accepting beta applications at the end of December. First up is a 'friends and family' stage, which will be followed by the first round of closed beta. The message stressed in the announcement is that Masthead Studios is really looking to the community to help them work out bugs and gameplay issues to make <em>Earthrise</em> into a solid title.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/earthrise-beta-signups-begin-late-december/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Earthrise beta signups begin late December</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/earthrise-beta-signups-begin-late-december/">Earthrise beta signups begin late December</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 15 Dec 2008 16:00:00 EST. <div align="left">One of the things we really like about some of these <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/one-shots/">One Shots</a> is showing how things have changed from the early days to now. Take, for example, the above screenshot sent in to us by Gorlac, Orc Hunter from the guild <a href="http://www.astrumbrumalis.com">Astrum Brumalis</a> on the Kil'jaeden server. This was taken from back in the days of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>'s "Friends and Family" alpha. The water's a little murkier, the details aren't as clear, and there's a human statue... wait, what? That's right folks, the statue in the background in Booty Bay was <a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/8095/1604/1600/Alpha%20Booty%20Bay.jpg">originally a human male</a>, arms outstretched to welcome you. We heard the tales about it being goblinized due to being too similar to <a href="http://www.mapsofworld.com/travel-destinations/statue-of-christ-the-redeemer.html">a certain religious statue in Brazil</a>, but we just like to think that it's more in keeping with the Goblin nature; those scamps will market <em>anywhere</em>. <br /><br />Have you got a screenshot that shows off an interesting quirk of the landscape, or some cool bit of history? If so, send those over to us at <a href="mailto:oneshots@massively.com">oneshots@massively.com</a>. (full-size, please!) We love to look around the MMO landscape, so any and all MMOs welcome!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/">One Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2704109"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os864_eq2_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2700179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os863_fe_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2695825"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os862_lotro_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2691569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os861_co_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2687909"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os860_wow_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Additional statue image courtesy of <a href="http://tlundmark.blogspot.com/2006/02/why-wow-is-bad-game-reason-8.html">Dopefish</a>]</div>
