<a href="http://divinesouls.outspark.com/"><em>Divine Souls</em></a> has been in the works for a while; we first previewed the title way back in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/14/gdc10-first-look-at-divine-soul/">March</a> of 2010. Since then, the team at <a href="http://www.outspark.com/">Outspark</a> has been hard at work polishing, tweaking, and updating the free-to-play action MMO, and today gamers around the globe get to see the results.<br />
<br />
Yep, it's launch day, and very soon you'll be able to indulge in the game's detailed visuals and arcade-style fighting game functionality (including complex air- and ground-based combos). <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/divine-souls"><em>Divine Souls</em></a> also boasts Xbox and PlayStation controller support and is designed to run on a huge variety of hardware configurations.<br />
<br />
The game also features a small downloadable client to get you up, running, and into the action quickly. Choose from one of three classes (Mage, Slasher, or Fighter), check out the trailer after the cut, and look for our <em>Divine Souls</em> first impressions later this week.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/divine-souls-launches-today/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Divine Souls launches today</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/divine-souls-launches-today/">Divine Souls launches today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 10:00:00 EST. Lately we've begun to see the shooter genre creep into the massively multiplayer online game space. Titles like <a href="http://www.globalagendagame.com/"><em>Global Agenda</em></a> and <a href="http://www.apb.com"><em>All Points Bulletin</em></a> are both equal parts shooter and MMO. Assuming the trend continues, we'll probably see more shooter MMOs in the coming years -- potentially even other genres, too.<br />
<br />
Obviously, this makes most of us wonder what other genres could hit the MMO scene. But, what we <em>really</em> want to know is which combinations you think are lost causes. Will there ever be a successful MMORTS? If not, why? Would anyone even want to play an MMO version of a fighting or racing game? The mind reels at the possibilities.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/19/the-daily-grind-what-genres-will-never-work-as-an-mmo/">The Daily Grind: What genres will never work as an MMO?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 08:00:00 EST. Everyone's favorite annoying Windurstian Black Mage is back, and she's kicking Chaos's butt in <a href="http://na.square-enix.com/dissidia/" style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy Dissidia</a> for your PSP. So why are we telling you this? Well we figured you might want to pick up this powerful little tarutaru to not only show your love for online games, but also to completely screw with your friends. It's pretty embarassing when you lose to someone playing <a href="http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Tidus">Tidus</a>, but it's even more embarrassing to lose to a small, cute, self-rhyming tarutaru. Especially one as self-centered as the Professor.<br /><br />If you're looking to grab <a href="http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Shantotto">Shantotto</a>, first beat <span style="font-style: italic;">Dissidia</span> and collect all of the crystals. Once that's done, Cosmos (our intrepid <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><span style="font-style: italic;">FFXI</span></a> <a href="http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Altana">Altana-esque</a> character) will remember spending a period of time with Professor Shantotto.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/shantotto-invades-final-fantasy-dissidia-laughs-manically-kill/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shantotto invades Final Fantasy Dissidia, laughs manically, kills Tidus</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/shantotto-invades-final-fantasy-dissidia-laughs-manically-kill/">Shantotto invades Final Fantasy Dissidia, laughs manically, kills Tidus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 15:00:00 EST. This past week <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> let slip information about an upcoming title aimed at the Asian marketplace. Called <a href="http://www.bascentral.com/news.php"><em>Blade and Soul</em></a>, it looks to be a unique combination of fantasy MMO and fighting game. It's being <a href="http://news.curse.com/details/12334/">developed by Team Bloodlust in the Unreal 3 engine</a>, giving it the visual aesthetic of a high-quality console fighter and the persistence of any of NCsoft's numerous MMO titles.<br /><br />Traditional swords and sorcery Western fantasy seems to be out the window as an Asian aesthetic permeates the game. Martial Arts are the focus, with the themes of justice and chivalry apparently very important to the games' practitioners. The world itself is based on the Korean myth known as 'Song of Genesis', with other mythologies from that country playing a part in the game's backstory. The title will allow players the opportunity to manipulate their environment, while the the environment around them also changes gameplay possibilities. <br /><br />To really get a sense of what the game is like, check out the lengthy trailer below the cut for all your martial MMO needs. It's probably the only bit of the game we in the US will see for a long, long time. Thanks to Yin for the heads up!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/ncsoft-announces-martial-arts-mmo-blade-and-soul/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NCsoft announces martial arts MMO Blade and Soul</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/ncsoft-announces-martial-arts-mmo-blade-and-soul/">NCsoft announces martial arts MMO Blade and Soul</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 13:00:00 EST. The licensing deal for this unique Asian-aimed title surprised commentator Brandon <font size="-1">Sheffield: <em>It's interesting for a few reasons - one is that the characters are customizable, so you'll be able to tailor your SF folks a bit. Another is that the company has stated (according to the second linked article) that they're open to more licenses in the future from other fighting games. And in fact, it's quite interesting that they'll be 3D. Who will provide the models, I wonder?<br /><br /></em>The news comes originally <a href="http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ja_en&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.4gamer.net%2Fgames%2F042%2FG004242%2F20071129011%2F">from the Japanese gaming site 4gamer</a> (babelfish translation). <em>Perfect KO</em> is in development by the company <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neowiz">Neowiz</a>, makers of titles like <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Silk-Road/">Silk Road</a></em>, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Shot-Online/">Shot Online</a></em>, and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/SEALS-Online/">SEALS Online</a></em>.
