Family Guy Online to shut down next month
Get your Quahog gaming fix soon because Family Guy Online is not long for this world. The game announced that it will be shutting down next month on January 18th. Family Guy Online is currently in open beta, which means that it will have never officially launched before spinning down.

The game will refund any cash purchases made during the last two months (from October 22nd through December 21st).

Ahh, the big dinner is over... but not the leftovers. And even better, not the pies! MMmm pie. From the results of the poll, pie is the big winner for favorite Turkey Day food. Oh sure, it appears to have tied with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and -- my personal favorite -- the day-after sandwich, but once you take into account all the pie choices, the round confectionery delight definitely wins.

And pie is just like Massively TV! No, really -- think about it. One of the greatest things about Thanksgiving pies is that there are so many different ones to choose from. If you don't really fancy one kind (I am not a fan of traditional pumpkin), you can have something else. You can also try little bits of multiple pies to see what you like, or you can simply indulge in all the varieties! And The Stream Team offers a variety of games to sample vicariously, regardless your personal taste. Some streams even come with a dollop of dev commentary on top. Let me just say this, right off the bat: I cannot stand the Family Guy television series. I know, I know, it's full of shocking, edgy humor and wacky character like the elderly child molester and the sex-crazed neighbor, so why shouldn't I love it? But I've seen the style of humor many times, and it's always, well, non-funny. I've said this before and I still mean it: Seth MacFarlane is this generation's Adam Sandler. They both do one voice and have made millions of dollars from it.

So when I decided to see whether Family Guy Online is a real MMO or just a vehicle for the new movie The Watch, (it's plastered throughout much of the game), I was ready for plenty of potty humor, jokes that tried to offend me, and essentially a horrible time. Oh, I found the horrible time easily enough (and forgave much of it because of the game's beta state), but I also found some pretty cool gameplay.

Welcome to Not So Massively, our weekly roundup of the top news from popular multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs) and other multiplayer online games that aren't quite MMOs. Published every Monday, the column covers games such as League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, Rise of Immortals, Bloodline Champions and more.

Last week we got a first look at League of Legends' upcoming champion Wukong the Monkey King and heard two awesome LoL parody songs. We also brought you the news that the price of Heroes of Newerth had dropped to $10, a deal that is currently still active and has no closing date. We got to grips with Realm of the Titans' new Titan's Eye map, HoN's latest hero Revenant, and a new tournament structure with prizes for Bloodline Champions. We also briefly introduced World of Battles: Morningstar, a fresh mix of MOBA and RTS gameplay where large armies clash on the battlefield.

In this week's Not So Massively, we reveal the closed beta date for Realm of the Titans and introduce the incredibly unlikely online game Family Guy Online. We also hear more from the Rise of Immortals team about the game's ongoing open beta, and I give my first impressions of the World of Battles: Morningstar open beta. This week seems to be an accidental Monkey King special, as both League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth reveal gameplay details of their surprisingly similar upcoming Monkey King characters. League of Legends also launched a new contest this week, offering players the chance to win prizes by writing and performing their own LoL theme songs.

This week's edition of I-can't-believe-they're-making-that-into-an-MMO comes courtesy of Fox and the Family Guy. Yes, Family Guy. The MMO. We're not kidding. Details are pretty scarce at this point, so the wisecracks we're dying to make about history's worst IP-to-game translations will have to wait until gameplay footage, screenshots, or trailers are available.

As it stands, Family Guy Online was announced via its official website, and Fox has also set up a Facebook presence as well as the usual social media suspects. Interested parties can register on the official site, and while said registration doesn't guarantee you a beta slot, the site does say that registration will put you "among the first in line for the closed beta." Stay tuned to Massively for further Family Guy MMO news as it happens!
